I'm not one to hate on a place but, I've been going to rogue rock gym for about 2 years now ND am disappointed on how outdated ND broken everything is in the gym, old ripped floor mats, screws everywhere, holds breaking off the wall, half burnt out lights, cobwebs EVERYWHERE! I haven't ever seen a change in the cleanliness I've only ever seen more kids running around leaving food in climbing areas, ND spilling drinks on the already stained floor mats, very rarely I'll even see adults eating chips in climbing areas leaving crumbs ND trash. It's sad to see a place with so much potential having no care or concerns at all to make the only rock gym we have a good one, it's almost more of a playground for kids. maybe it's a money thing maybe Its an owner issue but daum you'd think by now it'd be somewhat cleaner? Or even more professional when it comes to who they hire or how they train their staff, I've seen different times staff members being unprofessional ND un safe or even inappropriate, but I've also seen very rarely staff members actually doing their jobs. Either or this is a negative review hoping that maybe even just a little bit more effort can be put into this gym. Doubtful.

Great to see an active climbing community in the Rogue Valley. I appreciated the numerous auto belays as I was visiting from out of town and didn't have a climbing partner. A day pass was $20 and the staff was friendly and helpful. I'll visit again next time I'm come through.

The gym was decent, with several options for all levels of climbers and bouldering. The staff were pleasant enough but seemed very uninterested in the members/customers as a whole. It was our first time and no one showed us the ropes (pun intended). We asked a climber nearby to give us a once over on the auto belay (1st time without a human belay) and then afterward took out our own self guided tour of the facilities. Didn't even know there was a workout room in the back until we stumbled upon it.

I took a course here with my wife and we love the experience. I only wish we had a gym closer to our home.
I can't imagine leaving anything less than a five-star review, there's nothing like this gym anywhere near here and to compare it to some big city gym elsewhere would be silly! This gym exceeds all expectations.

Really friendly and helpful staff.
Good location close to bus stop.
Routes are okay, mostly quiet straight forward. Would be more fun if it's more technical

Visiting from out of town - glad this gym is here.
Front desk looked shocked that I requested a gri gri as a belay device. The belay test is conducted with an ATC, which is what the gym provides.
Route setting is OK, I enjoyed many of the routes but didnβt feel that hold placement was particularly thoughtful.

EDIT**
Appreciative of prompt response from owner about a problem. Communication about events limiting access to the gym has improved over time, this seems to have been an outlier, and ultimately a planned, productive use of the gym. Mea culpa.
**
Is there anyway future "movie nights" in the gym could put be put on the calendar or emailed out to paying subscribers so we don't waste our time coming down to work out?

Iβm redoing my review after about a year. I will say, the lessons for lead classes here are good and well taught. The gym has smaller routes than other gyms Iβve been to, but they make that difference up with difficulty. These are definitely the hardest routes Iβve done. Sometimes they donβt make sense but they are always doable.
The only downside is the neighborhood, just make sure you lock your car and keep your valuables with you. Unfortunately Iβve left my car unlocked accidentally and a wallet was stolen. However the staff did have a camera and was helpful with what should be done.
Also if you see reviews about kids everywhere, theyβve gotten a handle on that now. The kids are better behaved and are usually just doing their own section of the gym instead of running all about. So I definitely recommend this gym.

Main issue: kids are frequently running under climbers without any correction from staff or caregivers--even under people bouldering. This should be a bigger red flag, but it seems to be the norm. This is perpetuated by the fact that the facility is almost always overcrowded. Fix the serious crowding and unsafe kids running under climbers and the place is amazing--if overpriced.

I went yesterday for the first time and ended up joining before I left. I am new to town and actually very impressed with the quality of the rock gym here. Decently high routes, good setting, friendly and knowledgeable staff, and a killer workout room. Southern Oregon is very lucky to have this gym here and so am I!

Love this spot! I live in LA but travel up here to visit family, and I always stop into Rogue Rock Gym while Iβm here. Bouldering is fun (and harder setting than my gym back home). The walls are also fun for sport/top rope, but Iβm more of a boulderer so I rarely do the walls. I do love that they have the auto belays for solo climbing. Their gym area with work out equipment (weights, machines) is so big and well equipped, love getting a good sweat in there. My favorite added touch is the permanent slack line in the middle of the gym that anyone can use. They have bathrooms with showers btw! Highly recommend coming here and getting a day pass to enjoy the climbing & gym work out area!

Had heard some pretty great things about this place, & was looking forward to climbing there, but was actually pretty disappointed. Maybe Iβm just getting old, but it felt like it was geared towards little kids. I also wasnβt impressed with the few routes that they did have. The route setting felt kind of lazy & also geared mostly towards taller climbers (aka, not creative). They also require you to use an ATC only for your belay test, but then you can use whatever you want when climbing. When I asked why, the kid didnβt know the rationale behind it. Seems inconsistent & silly to require one thing for a test, but not for actual climbing, also seems silly to have rules that you canβt explain...
Overall it just had a kind of weird vibe, like maybe there was going to be a little kids pizza party there later, and a few kids might show upβ¦ but even they wouldβve been disappointed.
Anyway, I have been to a lot of gyms across the country, and usually feel right at home, but in this case, it felt like I was in a twilight zone. (For reference I went on a Sunday mid-morning, so maybe during the week itβs more chillπ€·π»ββοΈ)

This gym changes their routes pretty often and they have large garage doors to have great ventilation. They are not barefoot friendly which sucks for my climbing style, but I'll definitely be back.
Matt the owner reached out to me after I screwed up and froze my account and forgot about it. Unfortunately I then proceeded to pay for a very long time without use because I didn't realize it. :p He was able to credit me for the time that the gym was completely closed during covid shutdowns. I originally gave them 1 star because I was irate about this policy and the lack of communication. I would still like them to change their communication so that this doesn't happen to anyone else, but I doubt they will. Because of that I have to remove 1 star.

The manager Dylan is really rad, super nice dude. I saw some reviews saying otherwise but I strongly disagree. The other employees, Gabe, Zenas, Peter, Gaur, Tyler, etc. Are all extremely friendly as well, I highly recommend this gym. Short walls are made up for with world class route setting, and the grading is very comparable to outdoor climbing. This is really awesome because true to grade gym climbing leads to safer outdoor climbing!

I have to share an experience I had at the Rogue Rock Gym today. My 8-year old son was there on a field trip today, and had reservations about climbing. He had a wonderful time climbing the walls with the harness attached, and decided to venture onto the free-form climbing rock in the center. He had fun climbing that as well. However, fear struck him hard when he got to the top (please don't mistake this for being a scary rock, or scary thing to climb - it is very manageable). The reason I am writing this review, is to show extreme praise for the staff at Rogue Rock Gym, specifically Dylan and Ian. I ended up going to the gym because my son would not come down, and was very scared. All told, he resisted for an hour, but Dylan was extremely patient, compassionate, and talked my son through the entire process. Eventually, he even carried him down safely off of the climbing rock. Dylan and Ian even demonstrated what the process would look like for my son. Dylan went above and beyond the call of duty, and I am extremely grateful for his patience and taking care of this particularly difficult client :-) Thank you!

So much fun and a great workout. The facility is clean and there are climbs labeled clearly for all skill levels. They offer belaying courses, to get certified, which I intend to do in the next year. For now, we've had a few events there for kid birthdays and those have all gone well both when we've rented the space to have cake and just showing up as a group for a few hours of climbing. The prices are reasonable for the cleanliness (it's extremely clean) and for how many people are climbing at once, which can vary but hasn't ever been too bad. We plan to get a Family membership in a few years when our girls are a little older and we can all use it together.

I've been to a few climbing gyms and this one is not bad at certain times. But just about every time I come here I can't get a climb in, there is no room to stretch, and there are about 50 kids under the age of ten all over all the equipment. It's basically a waste of my time when i show up and there are kids everywhere. It's not safe. I can't get on any equipment without waiting 30 minutes or being rude. There is a boulder in the middle and the kids are hanging out on top of it. The employees and parents aren't paying any attention. I just got a membership, because it was free for a month, but before that i would walk in and have to wait for an employee to notice me at the desk. Not a gym for anyone wanting to get a workout. If you want to bring your five year olds so you don't have to watch them, then this is the place for you.
Seriously, the kids aren't even doing anything except crawling on everything. There are serious safety risks when little kids are running around with no notion of what's going on around them.
Please get a handle on this. Have a kids night. But not everyday. In other climbing gyms there is an area for kids. And they are not allowed in the other areas for safety reasons.
Oh, and all the routes are barely labeled. They are improperly rated. And sometimes you just have a picture of Bruce Lee instead of a rating. Colors on routes are not clear and often end up confusingly close to routes of the same color.

I've climbed all over Europe and the US and have been to numerous climbing gyms. Rogue Rock gym is a little "gem". Lacking height the route setters make fun creative climbing and there are more auto belays than you would see in a typical gym. To my delight there is also a burly little finger crack and a nice cruiser hand crack. Competent friendly staff to boot. Cheers

For the space the gym is excellent. Routes are color-coded by hold, not tape, and ratings are pretty close to what you'd see outside. It's nice to have autobelays when you're there by yourself but there's always somebody happy to give you a catch if you need.
