I'd rate this 3.5 stars if I could. Played for the first time on a sunny October afternoon. Price was $40 for 18 with cart. Friendly younger guy working the pro shop said "have it back by sunset and we're good."
There are some very nice holes and course is generally VERY open. I hit driver on every non-par 3, which I don't get to do very often. Local knowledge is going to be helpful on a few tee shots (keep left on #5, no driver on #8). Listed at 6600-ish from blue tees. I felt it played a little shorter with several elevated tees.
The course condition is mediocre; fairways were long and bunkers and off-fairway areas were unkempt. The greens did run true even though they did have some moss/weeds.
The guy below who called it Spirit Airlines Economy has it about right. It's not a fancy resort course, but for $40, sure, it was worth playing.

Compared to the Arnold Palmer design golf course, west of Klamath, which is like the Business Class of Emirates, the Shield Crest Golf Course would be Spirit Airlines Economy. Play both and you will understand.

My wife and I played this course a few years ago while on vacation early June. We are seniors with bogie handicaps and are not golf snobs. At that time, we thought the course was in pretty bad shape and decided that we would never play it again. However, after seeing that it had a decent rating this year, I thought that they must have greatly improved the course, so we played it again. Big mistake. The course is in no better shape this year that it was the last time we played it. I'm guessing that the owner is paying people to give it a good review. The practice green was half dead and the greens on course were half sand and half struggling grass (very slow). The fairways are a mixture of several types of grass and weeds, including big patches of clover and dandelions. Some of the bunkers had standing water (6 inches) and weeds growing in them while others had very little sand and weeds growing in them. There are apparently no power cart rules since there are well worn power cart paths everywhere, including circling some of the greens. People drive power cars right up to and around the greens. We payed $156 for the two of us on Sunday including cart. We would not play this course again for half the price and do not recommend it for anyone.

Brandon, Brock and the crew are awesome. Always friendly and helpful. Course is well laid out with beautiful views. Grounds crew does a great job keeping the course looking great. Donβt forget to stop by and grab a cold beverage and some lunch from Ali in the restaurant. Prices are good and the other golfers are friendly. The only complaint I have is the pro shop needs to carry Calaway.

Would not recommend... unless you're an old prestigious "a hole" then you'll be surrounded by people just like you. Course is not well maintained (especially for what you pay). Most of the staff are jerks with few exceptions. If you're not a member don't expect to be treated with respect.

Really liked the course but course needs to be marked better. Unless you know the course you wouldn't know which direction to go from most greens (we got lucky and joined a regular after 3 holes) Will play again

Five of us arrived at Shield Crest Golf Course to play golf at 10:00 am on Sunday 9/6/15. We paid our fees, loaded our golf carts, hit a few balls and proceeded to the tee off for hole # 1. A few players were ahead of us but no one was behind us at this time. We played the next four holes and allowed a single player and two other players to advance ahead of us. At no other time were there any players wanting to move on at a faster pace.
While playing hole # 6 a cart from the opposite direction came up to us. The driver of the cart was from the clubhouse. He didn't ask how we were doing. He immediately told us we had already been playing for two hours and said we should already of been done with nine holes. He said he had calls that we were holding up the play of others behind us. There were no players waiting on us. It was obvious that he could of cared less if we were enjoying ourselves. The tone of his voice and his facial expressions were very rude and disrespectful. He was trying to blame us for something we were not responsible for. I told him we didn't appreciate his attitude and if he wanted us to leave we would. I also told him to find some other group to bother because we were not holding anyone up.
It's a shame that he felt other players on the course had the right to call and complain because they were being held up by other players that failed to be courteous enough to allow someone to play on through.
It goes without saying that we were no longer enjoying ourselves. I refuse to allow someone to harass us and blame us for their own ignorance. It's not right and no one should have to feel the.way we did after this employee verbally attacked us. He was representing Shield Crest and did a very poor job. His customer service was lousy. Everyone who pays to play golf deserves to play without being bothered by someone, Doesn't he like his job? Our group believes that something else must of been bothering this employee because his actions were not normal.
Where is the sign that states, "You must play nine holes in two hours?" It's a shame that people like us that get to play a game we'd like to play more often but can't afford to do so has to have their day ruined by an unhappy person..
Please note: On hole six I visited the players behind us and asked if they were asked to play faster and they said no. I also asked them if we were slowing them down and they said no.
So, we were singled out because of an employee that was too lazy to find out what the real problem was, one who has no business working with the public, and should be made to pay for the total refund of the amount we paid to play golf.
There is no excuse for this to of happened. Thanks for nothing. Instead of now having good memories of playing golf on a three day weekend we now will re-live a nightmare many times over.
I can guarantee you've lost any future business from us and at least 100 people we know that canl be included in a group that "use to play golf" at Shield Crest Golf Course. Very unprofessional. Our true rating of Shield Crest equals minus 10.
