This gym is welcoming to beginners, and every class is filled with fun. Plus you will get an AWESOME workout. The instructors are friendly and willing to individualize workouts depending on your fitness level. I never thought I'd be boxing at the age of 59, but Swing State has become my new happy place and I love this community!

Swing State has been a game changer and I can’t speak more highly of it. I started taking classes sporadically sometime last year, and the last couple months I’ve been going weekly and I must say it’s one of the things I look most forward to each week! I have never been to a group fitness class that is more fun, supportive, inclusive, and accommodating. All of coaches I’ve worked with have always been so helpful and are always ready to give mods if there are certain workouts that people can’t do due to injury or fitness level. Also vibes are just fun, lighthearted, and funny the whole time!
If you are ever curious, just take the class you absolutely won’t regret it!!!
Not to be a total cheeseball but taking classes at SS have made me feel so much stronger physically and mentally. They’ve also reminded me of my power and what a badass I am!
This place rules 🥊 ❤️

I love this gym!! I joined to combine cardio with my weightlifting routine, and it’s been amazing! Not only have I seen improvements to my cardiovascular health after taking just a few classes, but I’ve actually easily maintained and even improved my strength in some areas. I like that there are different formats for classes, and the gym space is clean, organized and well equipped. A big bonus is AC and ceiling fans which have been great when we’ve had heat waves. But honestly the best part has been how friendly and fun the instructors and community are!! You feel very welcome no matter the level you are at, and the playlists during workouts are great! I’ve taken classes with Lindsey, Cam and Molly and I can’t recommend them enough 👏 and don’t be afraid to ask for modifications for exercised. They are knowledgeable and will quickly give you other options.

My arms are noodles. But one of the first fitness classes where I felt welcomed and kept coming back for!
Lindsey is great and was so accommodating from day one! (I have a bad knee) she worked with me to create alternate workouts off the bag that I could do. 4 weeks in and just got a package deal for more.
Can't recommend this place enough!

We found this place on MindBody when we were visiting Portland and we’re so happy we did! Everyone there was very inviting and welcoming. The HIIT class we did was challenging but doable and the instructor was very engaging throughout the class (she made sure to watch form and then offer feedback when necessary). Overall, we had a great experience and will definitely be back next time we’re in town!

Swing State Boxing is the best! The classes are fun, high-energy, and such a great workout. The instructor team is incredible—super knowledgeable, motivating, and genuinely welcoming. You don’t need any experience to jump in, which makes it perfect for beginners or anyone looking to try something new. Can’t recommend it enough!

So FUN! I instantly felt welcomed when I came in. The instructors walk you through everything you need to know, and give just the right amount of feedback. The classes are a total butt-kicker and I love it. Swing State has become part of my workout routine.
Molly knows her stuff, and also makes working hard playful. She's a beast on the bag. Total inspiration.

If you’re looking to switch up your boring solo workouts THIS IS THE PLACE TO BE! Boxing might sound intimidating but the vibes at Swing State are nothing short of incredible. Every coach is so supportive and fun to work with, I’m always scheduling my next class as I walk out of the gym. This is the best workout you’ll get and nothing beats the feeling of punching the crap out of a bag!

Molly and her team of coaches set just the right tone for getting stronger and fitter. Their instruction is clear and their knowledge allows them to modify any movement. The classes are fun and hard [which is what you want from a gym]. I attend the HIIT classes as, sadly, my shoulder won't allow boxing right now and I LOVE them. Give it a try; you won't be disappointed.

I walked into this place (well the old location) last April as a tired mom of a 1 and 3 year old. I was sleeping like crap, after two C-sections didn't know if I had any muscles left in the entire trunk of my body and was self-conscious about how unfit two pregnancies and two nursing journeys in 3 years had left me. I didn't really expect it to "stick." I was welcomed so warmly my Lindsay. She wrapped my hands, taught me some punches and I was off. The warmth of this place grabbed a hold of me.
There are people of all fitness levels, body sizes, ages, abilities, gender identities and orientations up in this joint and everyone is so kind to each other. Almost 9 months later, I am going 3x a week and am SO much stronger. I used to exercise to "lose weight" but that has not at all been my objective since I started here. It's just so great to get less tired each work out and to see my arm muscles start to develop! My body aches less, I've found the confidence to try hot yoga weekly, I can do 1,000x more than I could when I began and almost never need to modify the exercises any more. I feel unrecognizable to the tired mom who walked in this place less than a year ago.
Seriously, run, don't walk if you want to get stronger in a "gentle" way and also if you need to punch somethin out of anger in this country in 2025. I am really really grateful at how strong I have become and for all of the coaches at Swing State.

I started going to Swing State a little over a year ago and became immediately addicted to punching and lifting weights. My arms and shoulders have become huge and powerful which has worked wonders for every other aspect of my life, especially my new found ability to wear a back pack without it sliding off.
The classes are challenging and the exercises vary from class to class and coach to coach so it doesn't get boring or redundant if you go several times a week. They also offer non-boxing classes (HIIT, lower body mobility, yoga) which help keep ya spry and centered for when you're in the Ring that is life.
Go to a class! Just do it!

I’ve been boxing at Swing State for the past year and a half and keep coming back for the tough workout, fun music, and great community. Everyone I’ve brought to try the classes at Swing State has continued to box to this day. The vibe is infectious and I love supporting this woman-owned business while taking care of my health. I most often take classes with Molly, Cam, or Lindsey because they fit my schedule, but all the instructors are fantastic!

More than a little bit addicted to this gym and all of the people there. Molly and the crew are so welcoming to everyone that comes in, including my 7 yo son who hangs out on the couch playing video games while we work out and now thinks I am very cool. I have been looking for a way to get active again and have been trying a handful of various activities. I used to box when I was younger but had always been hesitant since my body is definitely not what it was.
However, I gave swing state a shot and it’s been a BLAST! As someone with chronic pain and of a larger size it has been fully accessible.
I do the knockout class once a week and it’s been so much fun to box again and in such a supportive and energetic atmosphere.
Definitely recommend to all skill levels.

After moving from Portland I can only communicate in poem form. I hope you understand.
Roses are red,
The punches were tight,
At Swing State Boxing,
We’d fight with all might.
The music would blast,
Cam's playlists so grand,
“Roxanne” on repeat,
With the beat in command.
We’d throw every punch,
As Sting sang so loud,
In the rhythm of "Roxanne,"
We’d fight fierce and proud.
Molly would push us,
Never a doubt,
“Dig deep!” she'd yell,
As we worked it all out.
Lindsay was loud,
Her energy wild,
Keeping us focused,
Like a coach on the prowl.
A year went by fast,
But the memories stay,
Portland’s best gym,
In our hearts, it will stay.

Ditto to all that and then some! Molly and Cameron are phenomenal coaches with great energy. They push us, make us laugh, and are super creative with the workouts. They are also extremely attentive and thoughtful. During class the other day Molly squatted down next to me while I was boxing to tie my shoelace that had loosened!

I found swinging state through my wife who suggested we add boxing to our workout routine.
I love how it’s woman owned and that all instructors are positive and helpful. There is zero tough guy culture here – just to focus on fun and fitness.
They have brought a new level of intensity/complexity to my workout routine. More importantly, they push me to be a better version of myself by always improving.
Don’t think about it. Just go once and you’ll be hooked like me.

Swing State Boxing classes are fun...and hard...and fun! Owner & Head Coach Molly welcomes athletes of all experience and fitness levels! She teaches you how to punch, kick, use defensive moves and also brings in strength work off the bag. Unlike some other boxing classes, Molly teaches proper form to keep you safe and make those punches strong! Molly brought two incredible coaches on to the Swing State Boxing Club team, Lindsey & Cam! This allows class offerings throughout the week, so there is likely a class that works for your schedule. Come for the challenging workout, great coaching & energy. Leave with a community of fitness friends!

I have been training with Molly twice a week for 15 years now, mostly one on one. I now go to her classes twice a week, I cannot live without her! She keeps me motivated and pushes me every time, the work out puts me on the floor! She's extremely smart the way she trains, both boxing and weight/strength training. Plus, she's a blast, music and lighting is key for boxing and she has that down....I feel extremely lucky to train with her.
I'm 62 and still kick boxing, that's because of Molly....

Molly Sparkman is an inspiration! She has created a Portland boxing gym that has become a thriving fitness community that feeds off her positive energy. She's passionate, she cares & the vibe is uplifting, including her daily Instagram posts! The rounds on the bag get the heart rate in the red, with ample strength & core off the bag between rounds. I do HIIT, boot camp & spin, and boxing under Molly is one of the most enjoyable physical and mental workouts I've ever done. “Fighters” are of all ages & levels & Swing State is a boxing gym with a supportive, team-like atmosphere where you can take it all out on the bag with awesome people! I have tried every form of exercise known to human trying to find a way to stay consistently active, challenged, and motivated. This one stuck HARD. Boxing at Swing State has rearranged the way I view fitness and the way I view myself. Molly creates challenging full body workouts both on and off the bag. She coaches you to challenge yourself, no matter your skill level. The community welcomed me with open arms almost a year ago, and they continue to be the most motivating force in my fitness journey. ALSO, sometimes one of the trainers from the gym upstairs joins us and boxes shirtless, so there is that too. 10/10 would recommend
