My favorite of all the Circuit locations. Really solid and challenging routes, kind and helpful staff, and it's kept clean, especially for a gym. Parking can be a bit tough but that's not the gym's fault, just the fault of it being in a good location. Level Beer down the road is a great spot to go after a climb - get the stamp from the Circuit so you can get a dollar off your pint!

I love the Circuit, but the managementโs policy around heat is unacceptable. The Circuit does not have AC, and during the summer itโs only OK to climb there and safe for the employees to work there for ~5/16 of the hours that they are open. I have asked employees on 100 degree days if they will be open for the afternoon, and they have told me that they donโt know and are waiting to hear from management. It is the very least you can do to inform patrons and your employees that you will be closed at times you are certain it will be unsafe to climb there. Members know not to show up at 2 pm on a 95 degree day, but I suppose the management hopes someone will wander in and fork over $20 for the worst indoor climbing experience of their life instead of crossing the street and going to PRG. Once again, I love the Circuit and want the best for the business and the community that goes there, but somethingโs got to give, and my personal preference would be for it to be the CEO(?)โs wallet that suffers, rather than the front desk employees.

The Circuit is my favorite Portland area climbing gym. A significant part of that for me is location, and having 4 locations to choose from and access as a member is great.
But that's not all. Bouldering is a more efficient way to get my climbing exercise done, and there's no need to work around a partner's schedule, either. When partners are present, bouldering is more social than roped climbing. I can go into the Circuit and get a great workout in with about half the time of roped climbing. Sure, like many, I do prefer route climbing in general, but that's better outside. I'm still one who utilizes gym climbing to improve my real goal- better outside climbing.
So now what about the fact that the other gyms have bouldering, too? Well, sure, but why pay extra for all the other stuff you don't really need!? The Circuit staff are chill, management is friendly and approachable, and, did I mention how great it is to be able to walk into one of the other locations, as a member, when I find myself across town with some extra time to burn?... All new problems to work on, and the setting is great!

Great vibes. Iโm new and immediately felt welcomed with no judgement for falling 47,000 times. My kiddos love it too. Itโs inspired them to think about the way they think about climbing other structures, like trees and monkey bars. The change in their technique is cool to see. The staff provides a really positive environment for new climbers.

I have been coming here off and on for years. I absolutely love the Circuit gyms & I love going to all three in Portland. The routes are always super interesting & challenging.

At this point it's a robbery. Resets don't happen as much anymore it seems, and there are evenings and days where like more than a quarter of the walls will be stripped.
Yet it keeps costing more. Also I find it weird they don't email you if your membership is expired, so if you spent a bunch of time getting there just to find out it's expired, you have to choose to either pay or take a bath on the commute.
I've also been told by people who used to work here that the membership fees don't translate into wages. Go figure.
Edit: I've been climbing here as my home gym for 4 or 5 years. In case it wasn't obvious from my post, my membership just expired lol. I will not be renewing.

This Circuit location has been my go-to for over a year now. The staff and community are great, the terrain geometry is some of the most interesting in the metro area, and its in a fun neighborhood for plans before or after your session.
It's a little barebones compared to other gyms, the parkings not always easy, and generally the settings pretty "light". That said there's still always going to be something you can find to challenge you and it makes for a great location to bring your friends who may be new to the sport.
I'm a big fan, this spot has my favorite cave within a short drive of downtown. Here's a few pics of my friend and i gripping some plastic.

Love this laid-back and welcoming place. All ages, sizes and experience levels are welcome and the routes (climbing problems) are a constantly changing space to explore your own limits. No equipment needed except shoes (and their rental prices are super reasonable)! They also carry a decent selection of merch, climbing-specific skin care products, books, gear, snacks and drinks. My life is better because this wonderful place exists, and I hope they open even more locations. ๐

This (bouldering) gym is amazing! There are plenty of good routes, they change them up just often enough to keep it fun. Also, the shapes of the boulders are different and very cool, for a good portion of the routes we can climb over the top and come back down with stairs.

I have a punch card for this gym and after coming here for a couple times a year i can confidently say The scaling of climbs is great but sadly the gym is in need of a new equipment such as their matts they currently feel like hardwood and their holds are very slimy even with newly posted climbs
Would give a 5 star review if they upgrade their matts soon... And that's coming from a person who loves sleeping on the floor i just rather not worry about a sprain ankle or tweaking my back for a couple months due to a unavoidable bad fall
The staff is awesome always helpful and great at their jobs!

I have been here twice and got a pass. I like doing semi social exercise activities, for example, I love indoor cycling, tennis, and now climbing! I had done some rope climbing before but this is way better for me. Also, the cost is hard to beat. I'm on a monthly $65 annual plan and have zero regrets. You can go to any of their locations (plus get discounts at other gyms) and they have a little weights area too. A couple times a week there are yoga classes and core classes - all covered by the monthly membership cost. Shoes are $4 and there are lots of different drink options available if you forget your agua! The people who work there are also topnotch!

Great bouldering gym. They have lots of angles on their walls and lots of grips. Plenty of finishes over the top leading to stairs in the center.
My nephew is more experienced and found some of their 3's in the left area to feel more like 1's. But there are plenty of easy to hard choices all over the gym.
They get a lot of bouldering walls into their space, plenty to check out!

Solid gym for the price, friendly staff and good routes. Only downsides are there's no shower or anywhere to clean up afterwards, and there's not a lot of jugs near the top of some of the more difficult climbs so I've had to jump from higher than I normally feel comfortable more often than I'd like, but otherwise great gym and people.

Great little gym. A really great place for entry to mid level climbers. If you want to climb harder on boulder problems there better options out there. Each wall roughly had one boulder harder than V6. The movement was definitely awkward, rather than making hard movement, they just removed footholds or turned holds awkwardly.
A wide variety of different angles, but the walls are pretty short.
Training side of things, if you want to climb harder, they have a tension and Moon Board, along with weights and several different hang boards.
Overall nice gym, with a good atmosphere.

A bead sweat dripped down my porous face and landed like a waterballoon on the rubber climbing shoes clinging to my feet. My muscles strained, every inch of flesh being pushed to its limit, I made a decisive move. My finger, feeling as long and as imprecise as a yardstick, was beating upwind towards the all too far away hold. My fingers made contact, I felt a wash of relief, and then those yardstick fingers slippery with sweat, lost contact with the grain of the hold. I lost my balance and started coreening towards the floor. I fell I felt a wash anti-gravity grip my body. Like an astronaut drifting without signs of earth, plantsless, no smells of home, I felt alone and cold; I was surrounded by the expanse of air between me and the floor. I drifted for what seemed like hours, and then I hit the floor.

Overall impression from my short visit:
3/5. An okay gym for a quick session but wouldn't make this my home gym.
Visiting from NYC, so I thought I'd stop by for a quick session one night.
The climbs were pretty decent. I personally felt like a lot of movement/setting felt a little uncomfortable at times - in that difficulty was achieved simply by setting bigger moves or removing feet, or putting them in odd/awkward positions. Of course this was not the case for all climbs - some were really quite fun, but I felt like the quality climbs were a bit far and few between for me to truly love this gym.
On the bright side - it has a tension and moon board which is always solid. There is a good campus board, but this gym seems to lack hangboard edges smaller than 15 or 20mm (rock candy hangboards or metolius). It lacks a beast maker, tension, transgression, small stand-alone edges, or otherwise newer setups.
The energy/vibe was kinda low too, but maybe I just came by too late.
The carpeting on the pads seems really old and could probably use replacing. I'm not sure if they even vaccuum it? I hope so. This is something most gyms do at the end of the night but I didn't see anyone doing this as I was leaving.

Note on monthly memberships: there is no initiation fee but there IS a cancellation fee. It wasn't made obvious to me.
The breakdown on gyms according to a 35yo primarily outdoor climber:
PG/Movement: sauna, tall walls, clean facilities. Crowd is mid-late 20s-30s. Find a cute climbing partner and have fun here.
PRG: rope and boulder setting mimics outdoors impressively well. Auto-belays. Generally chill/more outdoors focused crowd. Get strong for outdoors and find cool/experienced rope partners.
Circuit: bouldering. setting doesn't feel inspired to me but I'm spoiled by SBP. Multiple system boards and a slack line! Younger crowd. Get strong fingers here.

I really enjoyed my single session at this gym, had to pivot when WA shut down a day early so I stayed in Portland and hit this one. I'm an unashamed bouldering only climber and love that this gym is all bouldering. Plenty of fun routes, front desk was friendly, they were handing covid protocols with a minimum of fuss. I did feel like the grades were a bit soft but ultimately you climb at your level anyway so it doesn't REALLY matter. The gym area in the back is small but quality gear. There is also a nice loading dock to chill on when you're not climbing.

My climbing gym of choice. From what I understand, this place is the first bouldering gym in the Pacific Northwest, and it's one of the biggest bouldering gyms in the US, if not THE biggest!
I love the variety of problems there are, meaning that there's never a day where I'm bored. You can top off (meaning: climb over the edge) on the middle two structures which makes reaching the top super satisfying. There's a variety of terrains to try out; get good at all of them!
They've got a traverse wall across one of the walls of the gym, which is super appreciated. They've also got other training equipment available, such as tension boards, hangboards, a slackline, as well as a few traditional gym items (ex. pullup bar, free weights, rowing machine) in the back corner. There's also a kids area where kids can solve easier-to-reach problems as well as top off; they can get down from the wall via a slide!
For those coming here for the first time and are worried about the cost, the rates here are lower than Portland Rock Gym and Planet Granite (both for passes and rentals), though something to note is that there's no top rope. This is a *bouldering* gym, after all!
The folks here are the friendliest community I've encountered in Portland. Don't be afraid to chat up another climber if you're getting stuck on a problem!
Depending on the hour, it'll either be comfortably crowded or nearly empty. Go based on your preference! In general, it's emptier during the day on weekdays than on weeknights or weekends.
Go climb, have fun!

The boulders would often top out on top and you'd be sort of up in the rafters and walk down stairs to get back down. Interestingly set routes. To top it off the staff was super friendly and gave some great tips for while we were in Portland. Loved it!

Weโve only done the kids summer camps and kid birthday parties here, but I can say they have been outstanding. So supportive of the kids and their skill levels, and really encouraging in all the right ways. Love this place!!!

I recently visited The Circuit Gym in Tigard and will not be returning, because I choose to support businesses that value their customers and customer service. We arrived at the Circuit Gym and waited while the two cashiers were helping other customers. Strangely, one of them was giving ample advice to the customer on finding Circuit Gym deals on Groupon--I had heard that businesses receive very little of the revenue from Groupon but maybe that's not the case as this was so freely recommended by the business itself. Anyway, after talking for awhile about said deals, the customer proceeded onto his business, leaving the cashier free to help me (with two children). Rather than do so, he ambled over to the female cashier and helped her, then proceeded to chat for awhile before returning to his station. He did not motion for me to approach the register, so I walked up, at which point he finally acknowledged my presence. I had our exchange student with me, and he proceeded to ask whether he was my son, and whether I had guardianship papers so that I could legally sign the waiver for him to climb. There was some fairly egotistical banter on his part, and general rudeness. I asked to speak to the manager, and the cashier had to leave the area to the outside/roof so that he could get reception on the landline that they accept all calls on. The manager was straightforward, and then pretty rude when he told me he would not allow the international student or us into the gym. I asked to know who the owner was and he told me no, he would not tell me who that was. He then said that he, Danny Burkhead, was part owner. I know we find ourselves in divisive times with sometimes little regard to politeness, and I know that the way people view those from other countries has changed. I was astounded to find that manifest in my interactions with everyone I was in contact with on the Circuit Gym staff. There are kind ways of explaining things, and there are ways of running a business compassionately. Those ways are simply not found at the Circuit Gym, and so I won't be going back. I choose to support the other kind of businesses--the ones that value their customers, that choose community, and that welcome all people.

I was visiting Portland for 10 days and was planning on climbing at several gyms. The friendliness of the staff and diversity of problems caused me to have little desire to try anywhere else. Good vibes. Good people. Good climbing. Look no further.

Everything about this place is great. Has a good mix of climbs of all grades, a moonboard, staff that seems professional, and a workout area. Next time I'm in Portland I'll be back!

I've been a member of the Circuit for nearly six years now. In that time, their prices have nearly doubled. The list of improvements to make up for those price increases over the past six years are:
1) a mural on the wall (whoopee).
2) a slightly improved weight area, but it's still an afterthought at best.
3) finally fixing the floor after years of it being a taped-together mess.
4) no longer playing dubstep
...and that's it. My friends who work here say the prices have gone up to "stay competitive" with places like Planet Granite. Here's an economics tip: you stay competitive by offering more bang for your buck, not by arbitrarily raising prices without providing anything in return. Now that a Circuit monthly membership is only $6 cheaper than a Planet Granite membership, the choice is obvious: by spending an extra $6/month I get to boulder, top-rope, shower, sauna, and have access to a huge weightlifting area/workout machines?? [Edit: The Circuit once again raised their prices - now it's only $1 cheaper than PG! So if you want to save a buck a month, you can choose to forego all those amenities, plus deal with the fact that the Circuit is un-airconditioned during the summer.]
If you go in the afternoon or on weekends, prepare to share the wall with dozens of poorly-supervised kids having birthday parties, shrieking the entire time, and walking under you without a care in the world. I get it, you guys make a bunch of money this way, but your staff does not have the experience to handle a bunch of grade-schoolers running around a climbing gym, and I'm not paying $77/month [now $82 a month] to feel like I'm intruding on a daycare.
There are two reasons to go with the circuit: 1) their setters are top-notch, in my opinion the best in town. But given that they were just as good back when the Circuit was reasonably priced, it's not like anything's improved. And I'm gunna take a wild guess and say that their wage, and the employees' wages, haven't increased as much as the Circuit's rate has. The other reason to climb here is that the community is the best out of any climbing gym. But that's *in spite of* the Circuit's owners, not because of it.
If you're lucky enough to live in Tigard, your membership will get you showers, a decent weight area, and huge facilities. If you live in inner Portland and climb evenings/weekends, you'll be in an overcrowded, overpriced gym with a bunch of poorly-supervised children.

Tons of wall area, helpful staff, decent rates. The routes are changed weekly on a rotating schedule around the gym to keep it fresh. A filtered water station for water bottles is available at the drinking fountain. They also have nail clippers to borrow, or if you find that gross you can buy your own for a dollar. The entire place is kept impressively clean. If you're a month to month member, you can put snacks and drinks on your next monthly bill.
Overall very happy to be a member here.

A spacious bouldering gym will a lot of wall real estate. Their fees are very affordable too, especially for renting shoes and chalk. The traverse wall has a few routes of different difficulty, and is not as busy as the main walls. Plenty of street parking nearby as well which is a plus.

Love bouldering here! Climb up as many routes as you can before your arms fall off. No ropes needed, big squishy pads to cushion your fall from no more than 20 feet. Great for newcomers and experienced climbers alike
