Started a membership a few months ago and it has been a really positive experience! The machines are great, the employees are so nice, and the members are chill. I'm so grateful it's open until 9pm on weekdays too, since I work until almost 7.

Update: still a great workout experience! Wish there was an evening adult swim but otherwise it has been fantastic having access to a pool. I've also never seen a weight room with so few of the stereotypically mean gymbros. Everyone is pretty friendly. Even being the opposite of fit, I feel really comfortable working out here.

Have made vast improvements over previous owner and manager. I used to dread coming for fear of running into Hilda who I suspect was the "rude manager" most of the older reviews are referencing. The new owners must feel great about moving on from her. Love this place and highly recommend!!!!

*Edit* Good people, they must have read this. Adding a star for taking initiative. Thanks TDAC!
People have their shoes off all the time in the main gym area and it's gross and not 1 sign had been put up about it, otherwise, good gym.

The best full service club in town with reasonable rates. They have everything you want, to include a gym for basketball-and there's a noon game three days a week, M-W-F. There's also a pool. They have a Pavillion with two tennis courts on it. They have racquetball courts, a good selection of exercise machines and free weights. No other athletic club in town has this much diversity of things to do or participate in.

I decided not to join only because of the price...not sure why it's so expensive for an individual membership, but if you add spouse and kids it's only like $20 more a month? Great price for whole family but wasn't worth it for just myself. Club was clean and friendly Front staff.

Dig deep and know what you are buying compared to what you need. Just because this is the only all-service club in town doesn’t mean it will work for you. This club seems best if you need a family/casual environment (pool and basketball area), want to play tennis or pickleball indoors, have mobility or other issues that make water movement exercise preferred, or are doing weights/machines and can afford what seems pretty high price for the quality of the facility. Be Ok with kids of both genders in locker rooms even if you are naked/showering. Accept unaddressed maintenance items such as water leaking onto the bathroom floor from oozing toilets. Overlook the occasional cloudy pool water with the random bandage or loose hair floating around. It is an old club; don’t expect incense and fanciness. Very nice staff and tour initially. We were shown the pool and given a schedule including times for Adult/Lap swim, our interest. But the club has its own version of what Adult/Lap swim means as compared to international pool etiquette. Here, exercisers and pool walkers get preference and are allowed to own a swim lane, even if the pool is busy during specified Lap Swim. This means FOUR people can fit in the 5-lane pool at lap swim time if folks choose not to share (the lane closest to the wall is always exercisers). In swim communities, lanes are β€œsplit” or circle-swim usage happens so that everyone can participate. The WEBSITE even says swimmers must swim in a circle. Don’t be fooled; that is not enforced. We were frustrated with being run into or having people walk across us, and they were equally frustrated we had the gall to ask if we could share lanes or β€œcircle swim,” something they had never done. Mutual complaints favored the people following house rules, and we were made so uncomfortable as to get a refund and cancel our membership. Suggest Gretchen and staff POST their rules on the very large/visible bulletin board in the pool room. Also suggest the rules are summarized as part of the tour. Doing these things will minimize mutual frustration in the pool in the future.

*Update 7/20/21
The bad management issue has been solved! Or rather, the bad manager has been fired... What a relief. I plan to rejoin the gym after summer ends. Am looking forward to playing tennis indoors and enjoying the steam room again this winter!

*Edited 5/28/20
I recently reconsidered having a membership as a result of the pandemic. The owner illegally requested I remove my negative review before she would allow my family to rejoin. Please just stay away from this club, this ownership issue is out of hand and I believe in my heart the community deserves better.

Original review: If I could give no stars I would. The manager said I was horrifying after an employee hung up on me and then lied about it. Exhausting. Cancelled.

Gorge Athletic Club (GAC) offers a wide range of options for fitness whether in self-directed or group activities. We use the gym for aerobic and weight circuit, but we see all the other people who use the club for basketball, swimming, tennis, personal trainers, group classes, etc. With COVID -19 restrictions, GAC strives to provide all they can and will resume full services as COVID rules ease off. They provide clean locker rooms with both free day use and pay lockers. They quickly respond to keep equipment in good working condition.

Be sure you understand the terms when you sign up. They offer a lot and have reliable staff to support members. To have good service and range of fitness options, you may pay more than limited service clubs, but you get a lot more options at Gorge Athletic Club.

Zero stars! If you want a club that likes their members, has reasonable prices and has great business practices, MOVE ALONG.

Their fees are outrageous. They charge people for lockers they can't use due to remodeling. The management and owners send emails to their members threatening to cancel their memberships over criticisms they don't like including verbiage like: Decisions are based on my investment strategy. Nothing at the club is worth the shady business practices.

Invest in your health elsewhere.

DO NOT SIGN UP THEY STOLE MY MONEY

Apparently they have a 99 dollar enrollment fee for the month to month contract.

When I signed up I was told I did not have to pay the fee, and I paid for the rest of the month and the month after.

Then the next month came through and the auto pay activated and charged me the month I already paid for. (My payment was $69 monthly)

They tried to cover it up saying they forgot about the enrollment fee and will charge me $69 instead of $99 to be generous for their mistake except I Should NOT have to pay anything for their mistake. They still refuse to give my money back they definently stole.

Other than the year long contract they require, it’s a great place. Very unprofessional to require a year long contract when you have evidence you are moving away. A shame this is the only gym in town with childcare. For those of you with kids, I would suggest finding an alternate gym and childcare or just workout at home unless you know for a fact what time your going to the gym that day. Come to find out you have to make reservations before 3pm for the evening shift (3:30-8). So, when you work a job where you get off anywhere between 330 and 5 it creates an issue, as I don't know when I'm getting off until it's after 3. Which means they stop taking reservations and will tell you childcare is full for the evening. Since they only take 10 kids. So my 100 a month membership does me no good, kind of just throwing money away at this point. I have never been to a gym that you have to make reservations, so when I asked if they had childcare and they said yes, these are the hours, I should have asked for the specifics. Now I am locked in for a year. And, on top of it, it's 2.50 per child per hour. When I asked about pricing they said "it's a small town," so we have to charge more. Well I don't see the logic in that, since I moved here from a small town, Klamath falls. There I paid 25 a month for a 24 hour gym, .50 for childcare, per child, for two hours. They had morning and evening childcare, no reservations needed, you just check in and drop your kiddos off between 8 and 11:30 or 330 to 930. They didn't have a limit on kids, so if they needed more staff they would call them in, the members never had to suffer. The only amenities my gym back home did not have were the pool, tennis, and basketball which I don't utilize anyway. When I asked the staff about the possibility of bringing in more people to open up spots for more kids since it was always full, the and was no. Pretty disheartening to pay so much and not even be able to utilize it.

UPDATE: I appreciate your reply, I did bring this to the attention of the front desk and was pretty much told too bad so sad. Could you tell me when these changes will take place as I went yesterday and still the same policy. I really do appreciate you changing things and making it accessible to all of us with kids.

If you know this place, you know the Hood River Sports Club and here are both owned by the same gentleman and have recently changed management to Dianna Risley. The owner is very nice and very aware of the small town atmosphere both of these clubs have. Dianna Risley on the other hand is very disrespectful and rude towards many members that have been going to this club for many years. If she has an issue with you, she will not pull you aside to talk to you, she will address the situation in front of everyone in the club. She came from Portland and has a completely different view than the owner. I think the owner needs to be aware that she is changing the company for the worst. Her big city ways don't work in small town where people's business matters the most. If you compare prices to Waters Edge, which is their competitor, they are about the same if not cheaper. They offer daycare, classes, swimming, and not to mention, FREE large adult size towels for the amazing locker rooms that are new and well kept.

Family swim is so inconsistat, we had a schedule given to is in the membership, but wasn't actually factual, we had showed up almost every time to find, there was a error in scheduling, or another class needed the time slot, so we decided to start calling, before showing up. Over the phone we would get the hours, days available, just to find this too was inaccurate. Defenetly NOT worth the time or money.

Was a member there for some time and it was alright. The general staff were very nice and helpful but sometimes lacked knowledge.

Unfortunately they have decided not to keep the dance studio going that many kids are involved in. That is a huge disappointment for a place that has hardly anything for kids but claims they are going to have community events and activities in the near future. However, the dance director worked out continuing to use the studio it will just not be done through the gym. So please have your kids join so we can support the wonderful teachers.

Another issue I have with this place is that they will no longer allow the ROV club at the middle school to practice just a few times or so with their submersible robots. Where are they suppose to go, the outdoor pool that isn’t open during this time of year? Physical sport is not more important than mental sport. The students have no other place to go and the gym management claims they are becoming more community based.

I hope that since Google is a funder for these after school tech programs that none of their employees spend their money on this gym. They likely have a better gym for their employees anyway.

I wish I felt better about this club that I have been a member of for so long....but I don't. I pay twice as much as any gym I've ever been to for outdated equipment. If you can avoid it, go to any other gym. Muscle and Fitness is remodeling right now and will hopefully stay at about 60% of the price without a contract that completely screws you over.

Overall, one of the worst gyms I've ever been a member at. I hope someone makes something reasonable in town within the next couple years.

Terrible!! I agree with what the first person said. They make you sign a year contract and don't let you cancel for anything! They are terrible business people. After your year is up they continue to charge you anyways and don't tell you about it! They said you must give them 30 days notice, what?! This is not an apartment! They are money hungry and happy to screw people over! I even went in to check and make sure our contract was ending in January and they said yes, only for them to charge me for february- "I didn't sign the 30 notice to cancel" "THEY DIDN'T TELL ME TO!!" DO NOT JOIN, YOU WILL REGRET IT!!
