Updating June 2025.
Best Gym west of the Mississippi. Great community and incredible workouts.
Somehow Mike walks the fine line with workouts in a way where the person who wants to 1 rep max 495lbs deadlift and the 60 year old who is working on being 15 yrs younger/stronger can both work out side by side and get exactly what they want out of it.
That's a real life example that happened today.

These coaches are amazing. It is small class, real work outs, not just HITT moduals, They teach you how to position, how much to lift, you learn the who, what, where, etc. Not just working the body, loving the body. Learning how to nuture it.
I am over 50. I am not a gym person by nature. Motivation to train on my own is hard to come by. Trainers at major gyms aren't cost-effective, and do not dig TV sets, etc.
The prices are incredible.
Sam and Jenny are incredibly kind and mindful trainers.

My husband and I dropped in with a friend to The House PDX and loved the workout. We just had a few days in PDX and dropped in on a Friday morning workout. Super organized and challenging workout. Loved the team warm up and finisher. Hope to drop in again on future visits.

Now that I've been going to The House for a little over a year, I feel qualified to leave a review. I've hopped from gym to gym for different reasons the last 10 years and I'm finally feeling secure in the fact that I've picked an excellent home away from home. The programming is great - which is something that is incredibly important to me. I think it's written smartly and in a way that makes sense to achieve realistic goals. I used to do CrossFit but I'm loving attending a Strength and Conditioning gym instead because it just makes more sense (especially as I age) and I find myself getting injured a lot less overall - and when I do get injured, it's just from doing every day stuff, not at the gym. The coaches are all fabulous - even the newer coaches are full of passion and knowledge and they all communicate to each other so well, ensuring everyone understands the programming of the day and how to explain it to the class attendees. The gym itself is nice and big and clean and has equipment that's in good condition. The community is awesome and supportive. I'm generally a lone wolf and even I find myself conversing and sharing equipment with others in class, who are really great at cheering one another on. The owner lives not super far away but pretty damn far and still makes it a point to come visit us in Portland quite frequently, considering he's also running a second gym where he lives. And while the owner lives a bit aways, he's employed an AMAZING gym manager who does a great job at taking care of us. We're (the gym-goers) are often asked for input and when we give it, changes are actually made accordingly, we're actually valued and listened to. Also, I love the extra mobility and yoga classes we get - which are so helpful for active rest days so you can feel refreshed going into the new week. The gym also hosts lots of fun events such as a monthly happy hour for gym-goers and employees or motivational promotional events such as keeping track of how many days you go to the gym that month to motivate you to get a certain amount of days (holding you accountable for your attendance) to be entered into a contest to win merch and etc. Honestly, of the 6 different gyms I've attended in the last 10 years, this is my favorite.

The House is a great community with knowledgeable coaches and fantastic programming. I started out as 1:1 and then did small groups with Antje and now love all the coaches and the classes! Focus is on technique and I’ve always been able to modify as needed for ability/injury/recovery. The people are awesome here both members and coaches!

So much more than a gym. Just show up and you’ll see why! The programming and coaches are excellent, and the coaches genuinely care about everyone who walks through the door. The community of members is incredible- I’ve made some amazing friends at The House. Starting a new gym can be intimidating, but this is the most welcoming place ever and every workout can be tailored to any fitness level with zero judgement or competition. I’ve lost inches, and gained a community of incredible people - your body will thank you :)

I've had such a positive experience with Antje at this gym. She's so knowledgeable and kind. She's help me grow my confidence a lot since recovering from injuries and has helped me get stronger and mentally tougher while doing it. I've trained with dozens of people over the years and Antje is among the very best.

Very welcoming gym. The trainers are attentive and the members are friendly. Plenty of open space to work. The workout is not strict and gives athletes flexibility to modify their workout. Great workouts if you like a variety of moves that focus on strength.

I joined The House a couple of years ago. Me, a middle-aged guy with little fitness experience and frankly not a lot of strength! The House staff and trainers are patient and always very informative. They don't "play favorites" with the long time members. They are genuinely warm and welcoming to EVERYONE. This is the main reason I love going to The House. It doesn't feel like a chore. It feels like a welcoming extension of my already busy life.

I cannot recommend this place enough. The sense of community and love that radiates throughout this place is unreal! The coaches all know you by name and greet you with a smile when you show up for class. They encourage, teach and motivate you to push yourself. They help you through your weaknesses and highlight your strengths. I’ve never felt that the coaches are there to clock in/clock out to collect a paycheck, it always feels like they are there because they really want to be. The atmosphere is so positive and the people who go to this gym are so incredibly friendly. I came in as a mom of 2 who knew nothing about lifting weights and felt so insecure in my own skin. After a few months at this gym I am now much more confident in & out of the gym. I encourage everyone to try a class from the house, you won’t regret it!

So happy to have found this place! It’s about 30 min from my house but as a working mom of 2 finding this time for myself has been amazing. Highly recommend. Everyone’s helpful, even for the uncoordinated like myself.

Switching from running to weight training was scary for me, and I had many failed attempts. The House made it work for me, and it's hard to express what it's like when something just makes sense. I never really understood what weight training was or could be until I started here, and it has been a fabulous experience. I cannot recommend it enough.

This place is a special place to me! I get bored easily of gyms and routines and they change things up so much I’ve never left. The coaches are amazing, and they all care about us deeply. They don’t see us as just numbers or dollar signs but as people. Mike, Antje, Hayley and Stacey are the greatest people. They go the extra mile for everyone in the most welcoming ways.

This aint no ordinary gym. This is a family of people who are like minded, who come together to get a great workout and have a place where they can focus on improving themselves, physically, mentally and emotionally.
The emphasis they place on form is so important and that a lot of other gyms lack.

I went to The House after Mike (the owner) who is a neighbor of mine dropped by to give me a pass to come try it out. I was about 9 months postpartum from my second baby, still not getting much sleep, and extremely out of shape. I had done a lot of yoga, spin, and running in the past but had never lifted weights except for the occasional weight machine or pushup. I was worried that it was going to be too "intense" for my level, and that I wouldn't know what I was doing compared to everyone else.
On my first visit I met Hayley who greeted me so warmly, and coached me through the entire workout. I was sore for about five days following, but I took that as a sign that yes, I was out of shape, and that yes, I was about to get A WHOLE LOT stronger! I've been going now for over a month and can already see my body, mind, and energy changing for the better.

I absolutely love this place! The programming is fantastic! And I love the community! I have never been to gym like this before. There is so much focus on form, mobility, flexibility and strength. I have been able to accomplish goals that I never thought I could. Personal training in a group setting here is amazing. Their programming is unique and effective, especially when you put in the work! Every single day is a challenge and every time I leave, I feel better and stronger. If you haven't already been, come check it out. Trust me when I say you won't be disappointed!!!

After seeing a friend’s posts about The House, it sparked an interest. What I saw was something I wanted. A community of people who were striving to better themselves while supporting one another in the process. I was looking for like minded people to grow with and learn from. Maybe even meet some new friends. I wanted to try it, but my lack of confidence told me I couldn’t. I’m not in the same shape I used to be, what if I can’t do the workouts, I’m shy, how can I just join a place If I’m self-conscious of my abilities? What if I don’t fit in? All those negative thoughts entered my head. But there was a deeper desire to want to better myself, to bring my confidence back up, and to feel good about myself.
So I signed up for my first workout. As I drove to the gym, I was so unbelievably nervous, my stomach was in knots. I almost backed out and went home. But I’m so glad I didn’t, it was a hard first workout because I had to face myself and live in my truth that I was not at the fitness level I used to be. Facing the fact I had a long ways to go and I was shy and uncomfortable. But I was welcomed by everyone there, they had smiles on their faces and were truly positive and uplifting. After that first workout, I was hooked. Since joining in February it has been the best decision I’ve ever made. It was beyond scary to start something new and starting from square one. But it was the thing I was needing in my life. My confidence in myself has increased and I had to step out of my comfort zone 100%. Also, getting to meet a lot of amazing people has been wonderful. They are encouraging, motivating and all around good people. The members and the coaches are what make The House the amazing place it is. Greatful to have found The House and found a community I love. Thank you Mike, Antje and Hayley for this amazing place and for your hard work and dedication to all of us.

The House has brought me many things:
A level of fitness I’ve never attained before - despite being a college athlete. A workout program and a lifestyle change that has helped me feel like myself again after three children. Coaching and targeted programming that has brought me real results. A place where I can succeed and feel confident. But, also where I can safely fail. And learn. Some of my favorite people and best friends in the world. And a community that feels like a family.
It has changed my life.
Come check it out. You’ll never look back.

My wife had been trying to convince me to try out The House since it opened. She would always come home talking about what a great workout it was, and how great she felt after. I'd usually reply by telling her that I'd consider it after I "could work a little harder" at my more traditional gym so I could prepare. This was basically just a way for me to buy some more time before she asked again. Bottom line, I was intimidated.
I finally agreed to try The House out last month, and I couldn't be happier that I did. My wife was right. Yup, I said it. This place is a game changer. From the moment you walk in you feel like you're a part of the community that Mike has done a phenomenal job of creating. Mike, Hayley, Meggan and Antje will work with you and your fitness level, all while teaching and inspiring.
So, if you're looking for a place full of like minded people who will help motivate and challenge you, while also sharing in your success, The House is for you. The family that Mike has created is not like anything else that you will find. I never thought that that I'd actually look forward to working out every day, but somehow The House and it's community has managed to do just that.

I was reluctant to try out The House initially. I had a gym routine I was comfortable with, and quite frankly, the thought of a class was a bit intimidating. But my wife kept pushing me to try it out with her so I finally gave it a shot. It wasn't long before I quit the gym all together and joined The House full time, and honestly, I can't imagine looking back. The House is always challenging you both mentally and physically, and the variability of the workouts makes every class unique and fun. Plus the trainers are always there to support you and give you the one on one coaching that ensures all exercises are being performed in correct form. Bottom line, I’ve gotten results at The House that I never came close to at the gym or any other fitness regimen for that matter. If you’re looking to get in great physical condition, challenge yourself to be better, and dig an environment full of fun, energetic people, The House is your spot!

I’ve lived in the Portland area now for 5 years and I’ve tried many many gyms. The house is the first gym I’ve been to where it feels like family. When I first visited the house the thing that surprised me the most is that everyone greeted me and asked my name, the second time I visited they knew my name. I’m use to going to the gym, doing my thing and then going home without speaking to a soul, it’s bad that I got use to that. The house is very different and I really appreciate that aspect. Another reason I like the house is that the instructors really care about your form. I’ve been to a few crossfit gyms prior and it seemed that all they were concerned about was how heavy you can lift and I would end up hurt all the time. I think the house is really big on form and people not getting hurt which is really important to me. I also feel as though the house focuses on other workouts it isn’t just heavy weight lifting. Sometimes we will focus on cardio other time leg strength it all depends. If you’re looking for a place that will challenge you and gain new friends the house is the place to be.

Just join. The House is hands down the best training/exercise experience I’ve ever had! Not only is the staff amazing, friendly and the best at what they do - the community that you get to be apart of is what makes this place so awesome. Every time I step foot into The House I know I’m working towards the best version of me. Mike, Haley and Megan are attentive and friendly and willing to do what it takes to help you reach your goals. The work outs are methodical and well planned to keep your body progressing. I actually look forward to working out everyday since joining The House. If you’re looking for a supportive community that will challenge and change you - join The House!

There ain't no workout like a House workout! Seriously! You can tinker around an ordinary gym doing your thing for an hour, put in your time, and then go home, OR you can work out at The House with a trainer created, purposeful workout intended to target certain muscle groups, goals, form instruction, and coaching. Before long, a House workout will become part of your daily routine and the House will be home to many new friends.

I came to the house looking to reignite the motivation I lost. From day one I walked in and felt completely welcome and at “home.” The people that make up this family are just that; a family. They motivate you, push you, inspire you and genuinely care about you. It’s a one of a kind environment and I highly highly recommend trying it out. The first time I went to a class I was by myself. I was nervous about not knowing anyone but everyone was so kind and welcoming. I am typically a “lone lifter” who likes to keep to herself with headphones in. But the atmosphere at the house has completely changed that.

The house has been a great experience for me for many reasons. First if you take the time to read any posts by mike or any review from clients you will see and hear the word “family” a lot which isn’t always included with a gym experience. From the staff to fellow members you have instant friends and most important a group of people who support and encourage you. It’s priceless, very motivating, and you want to show up and put the work in. I also need childcare and The House provides a safe, clean, and fun spot for my kids to be entertained while I workout. Highly recommend.

The House is as good as it gets when it comes to gyms. A place where you truly find people who are rooting for you to succeed, push you to the places you never thought you could go, encourage you to keep going even when it seems impossible, challenge you to get our of your comfort zone - A place where you find friends that you didn't think you would find at a gym, and a place where you will feel respected and supported at all times.
I was a gym Junkie prior to The House - jumping from gym membership to gym membership about every 6 months. (Firebrand to Burn-cycle to Orange Theory Fitness, to Barre3 - you name it). I have been at The House now for over 6 months - have upped my membership to unlimited classes, and have never felt happier about myself or my gym regime.
The coaches at The House will help you change your body & mind, and encouraging you to try things that you may have never thought possible. The environment at The House will make you want to stay after your workouts to just hang out, the music at The House will keep you motivated and the people at The House will become your friends both inside and outside of the gym.
If you are looking for a change, looking to challenge yourself, and looking to meet some awesome people - The House is the place for you!!
Also - I have never felt or looked better than I do now that I have started going to The House.
