Iβve been climbing at the Jug for about a year now and itβs my favorite thing about living in Redmond. Great routes, regular cleaning and resetting, and the very best community. Theyβve been super welcoming from my first day there and have helped me countless times to be a better, smarter, stronger climber. Love this gym! ππ§π»ββοΈπ

Great gym owned and ran by great people. Closest climbing gym to smith rock and tons BLM land 5-10 minutes away. Absolute best option for any and all climbers passing through the area

I go here every day after school to work out and boulder. Thereβs a free weight set, rowing machine, pull-up bar, and of course the rock climbing walls. Sections of the walls are switched out every week to keep the place fresh with new climbs! They also have a moon board for advanced climbing! The owners are super nice and helpful if you need tips on climbs! Definitely one of the best places to climb in central Oregon!

Great bouldering gym in Redmond. I carpooled with a colleague to RDM and had 2 hours to kill. The gym is a 2-minute drive / 10-minute walk from the airport.
It has a variety of angled walls, creative route setting, a spray wall, multiple training boards, a full squat rack, erg rower, hang boards, a shower⦠incredible use of space.
Friendly staff too β enjoyed chatting with routesetter Derek and owner Philip.
Definitely stopping here for a preflight climb on all future Bend trips! π

First time here and it was great! I went with my 2 boys (ages 9 and 14) and all 3 of us climbed. It was $15 Friday (which I didn't know, but was a plus). All 3 of us needed climbing shoes and they were free to rent since it was our first time. The nice thing here is that once you pay your time is not limited and you can stay all the way until they close if you want. We are not experienced climbers. They have a lot of places to climb and rate them on difficulty. Even for someone who hasn't climbed much they had many options and they had a lot of options for intermediate and advanced climbers too. I felt it was very balanced and not intimating at all. The owner was really nice and helpful answering any questions we had. We will be back for sure!

My son had a great time, and the owner even threw out a few tips! So nice! I'm so glad this is here in Redmond. No large birthday parties per owner, but a smaller group of kids is fine without food. I asked about it.

I was waiting on a ride home from the Redmond airport and noticed this place was a 5 minute walk away! Excellent setting and insanely stoked staff. I highly recommend checking this place out as a rainy day alternative to Smith Rock.

If you are in the area or traveling through you should definitely go to the Jug Rock Gym! Absolutely awesome place, warm, welcoming, and a ton of fun. Great spot to bring kids and family. Super helpful staff. Even if you have never climbed before, this is an outstanding place to learn, or just try it out for the day. A day pass is very inexpensive compared to other activities around town, and if you happen to love it, a membership is beyond reasonable! The space is very fun and inviting with local artists work represented on the walls and local companyβs product for sale as well. Highly recommend this spot, and hope you decide to visit!

We had our daughters 6th birthday party here and it was absolutely amazing! The staff was incredibly helpful keeping the whole party on track, they played games with the kiddos, and they were very friendly and enthusiatic the entire time! Even the adults got to climb which was really fun. Both my kids came home exhausted (in a good way!) and my daughter says it was the best birthday party she has ever had. I cannot emphasize enough how awesome The Jug and all the staff are. Highly, highly recommend!

Very fun rocking gym. We took two kids 6 and 9 yo and they had a blast. The staff are really nice, knowledgeable and chill. The facilities are really clean and the staff continued to touch up and clean while we were there. Highly recommend and make sure to walk over to Original Pancake House after!

This has been one of my favorite gyms I've been to in a long time. It's a small space, but they do the most with it. The routes are creative and are more reflective to outdoor grade. My daughter has done the youth program, Jug Bugs, with Libby, on Wednesdays and has loved it! Her coach helps build confidence and the class is the highlight of her week. She wrote a story in class about Libby and her rock climbing experience.
The remainder of the staff is very welcoming and friendly. They ask you what music you want to listen to and have great conversations.
We will be signing up for a family membership as well as continuing in youth programs. If you're passing through or live in Redmond, this place is a MUST!

High quality gym with thoughtful routes and friendly owners. The routes are more creative than most gyms I've been to, especially when it comes to the easier grades. They often require some thought and experimentation, and aren't so obvious, but I personally find it more rewarding than a route that's solely based on strength.
The owners were very helpful and receptive to feedback. I mentioned that it felt a little stuffy and they opened the garage doors to let a breeze through.
One other thing, I really appreciated that you can sign up for a monthly membership without being locked into a year long contract, unlike some gyms that try to trap people in unethical contracts imo.

I was fortunate enough to meet both partners of The Jug and each was more than willing to chat me up about their beautiful new gym, projects, climbing goals, our cumulative history in the sport, the new generation of climbers, safety, mentorships, injuries, bolting, and everything under the sun. Having charismatic and friendly hosts was awesome and I owe them an honest, solid, and fair review, in the least. It's not often a small business opens in the "off-season," essentially rolling the dice when it comes to their business model, but these fella's are going to make it in the long run, as long as their attitudes don't change, and the gym with it. After talking with them both, I'm in their corner.
The boulder setting in the gym is absolutely stellar, and although it's "gym setting," (meaning lowered grades), they haven't fully sacrificed the integrity of grading. SO MANY gyms have made grading in their gyms so easy that it becomes dangerous for new climbers when they get outside, so I'm happy it's merely a grade or two under what would be found outside. In short, they're staying competitive as gym owners without making it dangerously easy, which is devastating to the sport. The highlight of my visit, besides talking up the young owners, was the creative route setting.
As far as the region is concerned, The Jug is the cheapest gym for visiting climbers (experienced), groups, first-timers, and the like. I for one like to save money while also having the time of my life, so it's a major facet of writing reviews in my opinion. There's a plethora of gyms in the vicinity and they have the best rates, routes, and space. It's extremely clean, and quiet, and comes with the cumulative experience of both partners being lifetime climbers. Their experience shows in the design and layout of the gym. I'll be visiting again, when climbing @ Smith Rock State Park/on rainy days, and will be recommending the business to my climbing family.
Well done, guys, easily 5-of-5 stars. Thank you for humoring my chattiness. We'll see you again one day soon.

My 11 year old daughter had zero bouldering or rock climbing experience, and has now been at the gym for 2 and a half months. She goes several times a week and is going to a bouldering camp this summer. She absolutely loves it! βοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈ

Just the gym I've been waiting for. Reminds me of small town gyms I started in (like C45 in Boone) and old school places where strong climbers and stronger community seem to genesis. Give this place time to mature and I foresee a rock solid, welcoming community forming around it that one would be hard pressed to find in the big box gyms down the road.

This gym has a lot of potential, but there are a few things that fell short of expectations. While it's convenient for people who don't want to travel to Bend, I would expect there to be more routes available for the steep entrance fee of 20 dollars.
I had two main problems with the routes.
1) the routes seemed to be primarily set for taller people. Someone 5'2" will find some routes impossible, reducing the already limited routes, while someone 6' would find them easy.
2) there is significant sandbagging when it comes to rating routes in this gym. I'm no means an Adam Ondra level of climber, but I've worked at, and set routes in gyms before. I found that each route was consistently one level of rating harder than what it was claimed. Often two or three ratings harder than displayed.
I'm not trying to discourage people from this gym. Like I said, it has great potential, but it's new. There are a few growing pains to work through and I hope they make it. Please give them a try and I hope you have a different opinion than me.
