When I first started working with John, I was struggling with sciatica, low back pain, and overall weakness, John created a personalized plan that was both safe and effective. His tailored approach and deep knowledge of the body helped me build strength without aggravating my pain.
Fast forward a few months — I’m no longer in pain, my strength has improved dramatically, and I feel better than I have in a long time. John is an amazing trainer! I was nervous to start training because I didn’t want to enter a toxic space for myself obsessing about exercising or counting calories. What I wanted was to get stronger and move my body. His approach is very holistic and he meets me where I’m at. I’ve been working with him for about 4 months and I feel really good about the work I’m doing. The program he has me on is something I’ve been able to stick to, and I’ve reached a point where I enjoy doing it. I’m excited about this new chapter in my life and feel very grateful to have found John. He’s approachable and passionate about fitness. It is hard to put into words just how positively life changing training with John has been for me. As a 55 year old woman, I have tried for decades to find what Thrive Athletica has already offered me. A trainer who is so authentically present, educated and safe (both physically and emotionally). In only a couple of months I have gone from feeling pretty hopeless about getting strong at my age, to feeling excited about my new found strength and hope for so much more positive changes ahead. To find a male trainer that isn't trying to be cool with women, but just is, who just gets it, is so rare! His garage in his home is so well equipped and totally safe for women who may worry about going alone (like I did). I encourage you to not give up and share this business with others.

My spouse and I started working out with John last year. What to say about John...John loves what he does, and it shows from his positivity and passion. John takes every comment we have about a muscle being sore or joint hurting and adjusts the workout, to get the maximum benefit. John even puts up with all the sass, jokes, puns, and never makes us feel bad if we didn't meet our step goal. John is about consistency, not perfection. So even if we achieve our goal 80% of the time that is enough. Also be sure to drink water, if you forget John is really good at reminding you.

John is the 💣 dot com!! What I love best about John? There’s no judgement EVER. He’s just wanting to get people strong in a safe manner. He passionate about what he does and wants to share his knowledge with you! He’ll keep you motivated (if you don’t work out today that’ll give you an excuse to not work out tomorrow!) and wanting to become stronger every day! I’m a nearly 60-year-old woman who can keep up with my kids and grand kids with no problem!! Matter-of-fact, I can lift a 50 lb. bag of chicken feed and they can’t. Lol! Wanna do that, too? Going to the gym used to be very overwhelming, thanks to John’s guidance, I am no longer afraid of working out. He created a very welcoming environment for my mother and I while we were training together. He motivated us to push ourselves beyond our initial capabilities. If I was still living in Oregon, I would be training with John. Somehow, I’ll convince him to move to the east coast ;)

Thrive Athletica- John has been the most life changing experience of my existence.
From the beginning, John went slow, making sure I was comfortable and knew what to do with each exercise. I learned to love movement and eventually even like temperature changes like exercising when it was cold.
I have lost 50 lbs and still going with a side effect of loosing 4 clothing sizes.
I have tried dozens of diets, life changes and exercise programs and even a trainer.
What not one of them ever addressed was resistance training, weight lifting, or building muscle to live life well.
Over the last 2 years; life threw in some injuries, illness and John was easily adaptable to what ever change or challenge was thrown at us.
Workouts are super positive and motivating with fun thrown in there as well.
John is very knowledgeable about what he does, nutrition, the body and just about anything you ask him.

I’m a 55-year-old woman. I was out of shape and have worked a sedentary job my whole life.  I’ve never been active and never believed I could be. John completely changed that by working with me virtually in my small living room.  He skillfully created workouts for me and encouraged me through my journey. Not only did I become strong and see changes in my body tone, which were unbelievable to me, but my whole mindset changed. With John’s encouragement I have gone on to try even more activity, taking up running and completing a half marathon. John is actually my uncle who I started working out with via video chat in August of 2021, three days a week, each session one hour long. After a month I could very noticeably feel the difference in my body and was also beginning too see the physical differences as well. John is extremely knowledgeable and is always looking to improve his work. After I was no longer able to commit to our three hours a week. I luckily left with a great new skill set on how to stay moving and healthy. The best part is his upbeat attitude completely changed my view on exercise. I’m diabetic taking 3 meds, blood pressure meds too and overweight. I dreaded going to the gym and my work schedule is chaotic. John was recommended by a colleague to be a specialist in helping people with my condition and I must say he is more than that !!! He worked with my schedule and made sure I could keep going.
He takes his work so seriously. John took the time to build a real relationship with me and customized my workout progressively. He started on my level and took me further than I could have imagined I quickly lost 30+ pounds and my A1C dropped to 5 !! he is kind and generous more than I would expect from any trainer he is now a friend..I would send him to each one of my family members if I could.

John is the best personal trainer out there, period. I was able to meet and do a training session with him in person, then signed up to train remotely from Arizona. Honestly, I wasn't sure how well he would be able to correct form and technique through a video call, but he is amazing. He can tell when I'm not doing something just right, and give me feedback to improve. It is as if he is there with me. John is also passionate about what he does, and it shows. I wouldn't train with anyone else. I used to be heavy into lifting, and had some bad habits and injuries that needed correcting. John helped me with all of that and has completely changed how I exercise.

If you have found Johnny, you’ve struck gold. I just thought I’d let you know. Doesn’t matter your level, your past, your injuries, your age….he knows the body and all its connections and can help you get to where you’re thriving. Mobility is something you can’t get just by stretching and working out. He knows stuff I would never have thought about. He’s done his research. He doesn’t just blindly train you either. He educates you. Even if you stop working with him, you will have learned priceless information that will carry you through your goals for the rest of your life, to help you feel good in your body, increase your mobility, and decrease your pain.
