My Daughter has been a part of World Champion Taekwondo for over 3 years. This program has helped her stay focused in school, learn how to be a part of something outside the home , and learn how to lead others. Best thing we did for her!

Our experience at World Champion Taekwondo in West Union has been nothing short of outstanding. Both my son and daughter are currently enrolled, and it’s been amazing to watch them grow—not just in their physical skills, but in character as well.
One of the most valuable aspects of their training has been the emphasis on core life values: respect, focus, confidence, courage, discipline, and perseverance. These aren’t just words thrown around during class—they’re woven into every lesson, every interaction, and every challenge the students face.
In a world where distractions are everywhere and instant gratification is the norm, I’m incredibly grateful my children are learning what it means to stay focused, to persevere through difficulty, and to respect others and themselves. Confidence and courage are not only important on the mat, but essential for standing up for what’s right, making new friends, and believing in themselves when life gets tough.
Discipline and perseverance, especially, are values that will serve them for a lifetime—in school, in relationships, and in whatever careers they choose. I see them becoming more responsible, resilient, and self-aware with every class.
The instructors are incredibly skilled and compassionate. They know how to motivate each child at their level while maintaining high standards and a positive, respectful environment. It’s clear that this school is about more than just teaching kicks and forms—it’s about shaping strong, capable, and kind young people.
Highly recommend this location to any family looking to give their children a solid foundation not just in martial arts, but in life

The owner of this business likes to laugh at children being singled out and bullied. They are a conservative and that aligns with their values. They're toxic bullies and you should take your business elsewhere. So weird to think that a person that is supposed to be teaching children how to be, would support that behavior.
Vote with your wallet.
These are the people that took away women's rights. They're coming for yours next.
I will say the fact that Republicans approve of discrimination make this kind of comment and post stand strong. They encourage discrimination and you should discriminately take your money elsewhere.

Highly recommended.
My son enjoys the atmosphere here so much that after every class, he eagerly asks if we can extend the session. He absolutely loves learning Taekwondo—whether it’s punching, blocking, or kicking. It’s such a great activity for energetic young boys, helping him burn off energy in a productive way. Beyond just the physical skills, I've noticed a significant improvement in his ability to listen and follow instructions. He is now much quicker at responding to adult commands, which has made a noticeable difference in his behavior at home. I’m excited to continue his Taekwondo journey and watch as he develops both his skills and discipline, with even more positive changes to come.

We started Tae Kwon Do to help our 8 year old daughter gain some confidence, focus, and an understanding of commitments and dedication.
Her first lesson was difficult. It was so much different than what she was used to: a lot of hard work, loud noises, and a fast pace. She ran off the mat crying, it didn’t seem like a good fit. But the masters and other students encouraged to go back and finish the class. She agreed to finish her trial and a few months later she is a different kid. She’s loud, she’s confident, she’s fast, she’s committed to the practice. She truly enjoys going to her lessons and dedicates time everyday to practicing what she learns.
Every lesson I have been to the masters talk about how what they learn there isn’t just for class, but for everywhere (especially at home) and I really do see their three rules bleeding into everything she does: respect, confidence, and always doing your best.
The confidence and commitment has bled into other activities and into school. Her teachers noted the change in how she holds herself. I see how much more willing she is try new things and how much less affected she is by loud or unexpected things in her surroundings. The new sense of commitment led her to working on her first art piece for a national competition. We went from needing to remind her constantly to working on it, to finding her already working on her drawing. We had less lost items and she’s been maintaining a clean space in her room (a true miracle).
We’re very grateful for the environment and support she has received, and look forward to seeing how much more she grows.

World Champion Taekwondo is run by a set of very talented and committed masters who teach the kids with both confidence and compassion. They strive not just to teach the martial arts skills and moves but go above and beyond to cultivate habits of respect, confidence and doing their best in the kids. My son was very shy and hesitant for the first couple of days, but today he completed his first belt assessment to get a yellow stripe on his white belt. This is the best place to learn Taekwondo anywhere in Portland. Many thanks for Olympic Gold Medalist Master Kim for providing this facility so close to home. Thank you Sir!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Taekwondo was one of the first activities we wanted to enroll our son in when he turned four. We were referred to WCTKD and are so glad we were. The Little Tigers class is perfect for our son who just started to learn in a class environment this year. The instructors are very friendly and encouraging but firm in discipline. They are knowledgeable and professional and understand how to teach in a way that is exciting and fun for children. There is always one main instructor who is assisted by multiple advanced level students so every child receives ample attention. A handful of other children started the same time as our son and they have all continued attending so I know I’m not alone in my opinion!
They also offer trial classes so you can see if this program is right for your child. The price is reasonable and have various time slots to fit your schedule. They are also understanding when you need to make up classes due to illness, vacation or otherwise.
In case this was TL;DR and you missed my intro… HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

Excellent TKD School for the entire Family! Our son’s friends invited our kids to a class during “bring-a-friend” day, and we then tried a 3-week trial. Father & son ended up joining and it’s been almost 6 months and they LOVE it!
Parents are encouraged to stay and watch and you will notice immediately what sets this school apart from other schools…their instructors! Olympic Gold Medalist Grand Master B.C. Kim has Head Master Park and Head Master Kwon instructing at their West Union location and they are OUTSTANDING! Not only are they accomplished world athletes, but they are highly professional, and compassionate to the children.
This is more than TKD, Grand Master B.C. Kim is building character, good values, and self-discipline to his students (of all ages), and whenever he is in studio he says “Hi” too.

First of all, you’re not learning from an Olympic Gold Medalist who holds an 8th degree black belt, your child will learn mostly from his students students.
We brought our son in from a Groupon deal that still says to this day “2 months of Taekwondo with a belt”, yet we were given the ultimatum after 2 weeks of training (plus one week when we were on vacation) that we have to enroll our son for $170/month for 1 hour/week of classes or not return. That’s just false advertisement first of all. Second, nobody, I mean NOBODY charges that much for 30 minutes of actual martial arts training per week (half of the 30 minute classes are just warming up).
Don’t even get me started on charging an additional enrollment fee, $70 for lower belt tests (another reviewer mentioned they test 4x/year), and treating potential students as nothing more than a wallet.
There was really no tangible benefit to bringing him there for 2 weeks other than to realize that this place is a MCDOJO!

I'm so happy I can finally write this review. I've been holding off because we're locked in a contact, but one of the masters made my kid cry in class today and we've had it. This place is TERRIBLE.
TLDR: Over crowded, inconsistent quarter lengths, poor organization, one bully teacher
We've been going here just over a year. We started out with a Groupon deal--3 months for I want to say $59? With the option for a reduced rate after 3 months. It only saves you $5-10 a month to do it that way, but it's also the cheapest school we found in the area so it seemed like a good deal. The first 6 months or so were fine but slowly and surely we started noticing things we really did not like.
My son's class started out with no more than 10 kids maximum, sometimes being just himself for the day. They pressured us to move up a level, even though we didn't think he was ready and would be among the youngest in the new classes (our son is 5 and the next level up is comprised of mostly middle and high school aged kids, even a couple adults) and now there's usually as many as 20 people in each class. This would be fine if they had the space and the personnel, but they don't even have enough seating for the parents in the small classes and half those kids come over from daycare. My son gets paired to spar with someone twice his age and size and a higher belt level and if I'm being honest, I don't think half of these people are actually at the correct belt level. Testing is done once per quarter and the quarters are unevenly spaced. The summer quarter was 3 months and the winter quarter was 5 weeks, not including all the days they're closed for holidays. Then we come back from the 2 weeks they're closed for Christmas/New Years, and they're already handing out forms for the next belt testing. I've never been in martial arts before so I'm not well versed in how that's supposed to work but I'm pretty sure you don't actually move up 4 levels a year, and especially not at 4-5 years old.
In order to test, they reward students with tapes on their belts. The tapes mean different things--good form, good punching, etc. They seem to hand these out at random. While I'm not a believer in participation trophies, it sucks watching every kid in the class get a tape except one, and then they don't provide any extra feedback to the child about what they need to work on or give them additional help in the next class.
Master Lim is a very sweet man. He's very professional and kind to everyone in class.
Master Jim on the other hand is a POS. He seems like he'd be fine teaching adults, but he should not teach children. He tends to joke and be silly, then gets mad when little kids don't understand it's not time to be silly back. I've seen him have to be tapped out by Master Lim multiple times because he's visibly enraged at a bunch of kindergartners. He's extremely condescending, openly mocks students that are clearly struggling to master techniques, and talks to them like they're being openly disobedient instead of needing extra help or to go slower. Today, my kid was struggling and Master Jim decided to make fun of him in front of the whole class and made him cry. Instead of being a decent human being and owning up to the fact that he was a jerk and went too far, he tried to play it as if my 5 year old is too sensitive and he didn't know what happened. My husband pulled our son from class right there and we're never going back. Our contract isn't even up for another month and I don't care.

I attended this academy back in the 90's when it was Olympic Taekwondo. Master B.C. Kim was a great and knowledgeable instructor. I would highly recommend this academy.

Though a little pricey, this place is a great school to learn Taekwondo. The masters and instructors are there to welcome you and are ready to try their very best to help you in learning the necessary skills for your next test. They will even encourage you to try your best too even though you may be tired and is also a great place for families to take Taekwondo together. I have been going here for about three years now and every time I walk in and look at everyone's faces they always have a happy smile on their face and are exited to learn something new. And not only does this school teach you Taekwondo, you also learn self discipline, control, to have confidence in yourself, and to show respect for parents, teachers and everyone around you. Overall World Champion Taekwondo at West Union is a great place to learn many things (and is a great opportunity to earn you weekly exercise needs) for people of all ages and I hope I can continue taking Taekwondo here for many years to come.

TaeKwonDo is awesome and fun. They teach you academically but still put fun things into it while teaching. If you do well enough and the master's think you are ready enough too they will suggest you to be a instructor. That means you become and "adult" and teach other kids and help them become a black belt. There are different kinds of classes, there is Family Class, Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, Level 4, and Level 5. There is also Demo team practice. If you are in a Demo team then you go out on tournaments and show people what you did in the Dojang. There is a Advanced Class where only people who are good go out and do, they also do more things then regular classes like they do 20 laps instead of 10. They also teach you to build confidence, develop discipline, enhance self esteem, strengthen your mind and body but most of all HAVE FUN!!!!!

An awesome place for Taekwondo! The teaching is phenomenal compared to other Taekwondo schools around the area. They keep the students busy with goals, dedication, and respect. They have other various events as well, such as, doing fundraisers for local schools and doing school assemblies to teach respect and discipline! Highly recommended!
