Seems more fitness focused than yoga focused, which is fine, but in comparison to something like CorePower, the class just wasn't executed particularly well. Overall I left feeling kind of frustrated.
---
Specific feedback for the studio: The space is way too cramped. I couldn't reach my leg behind me without hitting the wall and I kept almost getting hit in the face by the person in front of me. The class structure was overall fine, but there were a few attempts at creative sequencing that were more confusing than interesting. I had some trouble hearing the instructor. The bright lights overhead were annoying during savasana.

Great class. Nick is such a good teacher, bad a very positive, unique vibe. Nick is what made the class even better. Thank you.

I have been going here for two years. It started off with many good, experienced teachers but it has devolved into students teaching the classes. I am deeply disappointed because all the experienced teachers have left. Unfortunately there’s not a lot of hot yoga available here. Thinking seriously of leaving. It’s too bad.

After a couple years away from yoga, the classes at this studio have helped my body seamlessly transition from inactivity back to the mat. The variety of instructors are warm, welcoming and support all levels of practice. Here’s my special thanks to yogaRIOT for providing a safe space to get my post-yoga glow back. <3

Yoga riot is a welcoming, cozy space with a great community of teachers and students! My body always feels great after class and the teachers are sure to remind everyone to make any modifications needed. The space is small so be prepared to sweat close to strangers!

I have been practicing yoga on and off for at least a decade. For me, yoga is more than just moving your body or learning and practicing the philosophy that makes yoga so special because finding a space in order to be comfortable to practice, to make mistakes, to feel empowered or emotional is not always an easy combination to find when the yoga market in Portland is very saturated. YogaRiot embodies all of the above. They are true on their word when they share that they are a place for all bodies and all people and to simply practice love and kindness. I feel honored to have randomly stumbled upon this studio where I can practice regularly. Best random stumble <3

As a fat person who has navigated many fitness spaces over the past 10-15 yesss, YogaRIOT is the only place I’ve felt so safe, comfortable, and completely non judged for my body or abilities. The coaches are incredibly warm and inviting, they are consistently offering various ways to do movements, and regularly remind us that using blocks is GOOD for your body and not a weakness in your abilities. I just hit 50 classes and have noooo plan of leaving anytime soon. I’m so happy with this space and the community it’s formed.

It was a pleasant surprise to find a hot yoga studio upon moving to Sellwood, I did the two week $39 unlimited pass and was hooked! I’ve had a membership for a little over a year now and it’s only gotten better. They have a variety of instructors with a lot of classes through out the day. Stoked to get to practice with such good energy and people.

I’ve been a member with YogaRIOT for the past 6 months. Over this time my flexibility has improved significantly. I started my journey with being able to touch my toes with my legs out in front, now my hand can drape over my foot! Each teacher is a great guide through a practice that is always challenging yer rewarding. I feel very welcomed every time I come in <3

I really enjoy coming to this studio. The classes are challenging but I always feel amazing after. It’s really nice that they have classes early in the morning and as late as 7pm so that I can fit a class in even with my busy work schedule. I also like that there are two levels to the studio and the upstairs is a little hotter, so on the days that I’m craving something more intense I can practice upstairs.

I went to this studio before Covid and loved it. I returned recently with a generous deal with two weeks unlimited for $20. The studio is tiny and I left feeling sunburned as the heating apparatus is very close to where you do yoga without any sort of air flow.
That's my own personal take on the studio but I'm a lil sensitive to the heat.
The reason I'm giving two stars is I felt harassed by the marketing at this place. I received around 10 texts, daily emails, and multiple voicemails asking about my goals and feedback. At first I didn't realize it was the yoga studio and thought it was some phishing texts. I'm very creeped out about this stalker approach to promoting a business. Especially a yoga studio. I suggest yogaRIOT consider this for future promoting.

I really, really enjoyed coming to this studio. The teachers are all lovely. I liked that it was in my neighborhood. I asked to pause my membership last year due to an injury (ironically sustained from one of the yoga classes), and their policy was not to pause, plus they continued to charge me for another month after I canceled. I had intended to resume my membership after my injury but was so turned off by the business policy I won't return.

Terrific neighborhood yoga studio with a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. As someone new to yoga, I was hesitant to try it out but both Annie and Caroline have been incredibly friendly and helpful, so I’ve become increasingly comfortable with attending regular classes. The instruction is always clear and being able to easily see the teacher from any vantage point in the studio is helpful for a newbie learning all the poses. So glad to have found yogaRIOT!

I have been going to Yoga Riot for about a year now. I absolutely love the studio and all of the instructors. I’ve been practicing yoga for 5 years, and have been pushed to new levels of strength through my classes at YogaRIOT. I have really enjoyed being pushed and learning new poses. They have a great class variety for all levels and a good selection of class times.

**ALL CLASSES ARE HEATED** - It's not super duper clear on their website or on Classpass, at the time of writing this. I've taken 3 or 4 classes here. Another mega crammed Portland yoga studio. It's fine...I sensed some entitlement from one of the instructors which is a turn off, but the instruction and class was great otherwise. Another instructor put the entire class into an extreme cardio vibe, noticed it, and let us have a chill moment to catch our breath. I thought that was great that they noticed and corrected it. I don't think yoga should ever feel like cardio? Parking is terrible as are most studios in Portland. So arrive as early as you can. I'll be back when I can make it with time to spare. Overall fine experience.
**Edit in response: It was not the yogaStrong class. An established yoga instructor can do things us normies can't. Even the most skilled patrons were gasping for air. I think the flow just got away from them for a minute. I thank them for noticing instead of being lost in the moment and focused on pushing themselves. We're all human and trying to our best.
I see Classpass was updated to be more clear. Thanks!

Such a cute spot, I've loved my time here. Everyone has the best energy, including the teachers and students. I feel very comfortable and have never felt judged or like I needed to impress, which is always a concern when joining a new studio. I signed up for a package that includes both yoga and strength training with Caroline and have been so happy with my progress. Caroline is supportive, encouraging, positive, and so easy to work with. Yoga and strength training at a studio can be incredibly intimidating but I immediately felt at ease!

I’ve been regularly coming here (about 3x a week) for about a month. Annie and Kari have done a fabulous job making me feel welcome and teaching me something new with every session. I generally gain a lot from my at home yoga practice, and yet I have never been so drawn to return to in-studio yoga as I have been with their programming.

My favorite way to get stability in my life is by getting to yoga class. As a member of this studio for over 3 years I (used) to love coming to class. They do have incredibly wonderful teachers...But the owner acts like a yoga-bully and I simply cannot recommend anymore.
From being grabbed and pulled against my will into a full class( I was late) to being snapped at, ignored and belittled in teacher training... There are many studios in PDX
*Edit: Annie you are fully aware of the ongoing issues that your abrasive personality has presented to me and a slew of others over the years. Slander!? Don't be silly. You are fortunate I didn't take you to court over the $1500 you owe me/my mother for the YTT experience. (Good grief)

Gorgeous studio, haven't gone in since 2018. I had a bad experience with the owner who would bark and snap her fingers aggressively at people who were not in the "right" pose. I also had issues when I moved and had to cancel my membership... I was charged for an additional month even though I requested my cancellation in writing.

I was introduced to YogaRIOT a few months after I had moved across country to a city where I knew no one. This studio, the staff, and owners quickly became a loving community for me to flourish and grow as a yogi on and off my mat. The post-COVID lockdown policies for returning to in person classes make me feel safe and cared for! Annie and Kari created plastic bubbles for every yogi to have their own safe space to practice in the heat - something I have missed tremendously! I have been practicing here for a few years now and just completed the 2020 Yoga Teacher Training Course (now available online!).

I am so happy that I found Yoga Riot. I chanced upon this studio because they are a member of Silver and Fit—AND the only dedicated yoga studio listed in my area for S&F. At first I was worried because it was "warm" yoga and quite rigorous, but I gave it time. The teachers and owners were so incredibly professional and welcoming. I felt their loving care immediately. These folks are genuine and sincere! They write personal emails after your class with them saying how glad you came and so on. The workout is incredible and I feel stronger than ever. Lots of people are in the classes which gives the room positive energy. Now that we have COVID-19, they have continued with tons of classes online. You get to see your classmates and teachers live! They really know how to build community during these strange times of isolation. It has been really helpful. I can't find one thing bad to say—everything about YogaRiot is upbeat, personable and strengthening. Love you guys!

Although the classes themselves are fine, I would advise anyone attending this studio to pay cash, as the check in processes for this studio make it easy for your credit card to be fraudulently charged for classes. I was reminded of my experience when a friend had a similar complaint with this business. I was fraudulently charged for two classes. The business owner refused to refund my money and only offered a free drop in. I asked her to delete my credit card information after the first incident, but it happened again several weeks later and I had to cancel my credit card.

Love love LOVE this studio! It's simple, elegant and has wonderful instructors who know how to push you farther in your practice while respecting your limits. I didn't think I could ever do Wheel pose again after breaking my wrist and they showed me modifications to do and now I feel my strength and confidence returning! There are add-ons to the regular classes you can buy and I love them! Thinks like a cannabis class and restorative yoga to help use myofascial release with your poses. SO much knowledge at this studio, you must try it if you're in the Sellwood area! Lavender towels during meditation and kombucha samples at the end of class are also a wonderful extra touch :)

Love this yoga studio! The cool lavender towel and kombucha are such a nice perk. Great instructors and a big beautiful space to practice. I was in a car accident about 6 months ago and am just starting to workout again. The instructors have been so kind and encouraging. They've been good about modifications and making sure I'm not pushing myself too hard while recovering. Would definitely recommend!

As a newcomer, I appreciated Kari’s hands-on approach and encouragement to push past the doubt or discomfort associated with certain advanced poses. She led our Power 90 class without any music at all, which I didn’t even realize until near the end of class- a testament to her impeccable timing and engaging energy. The space is beautifully airy and delicious kombucha is on tap for pre/post-class refreshment. A real gem of a studio, I’ll definitely be back!

My favorite yoga spot in town. Classes here are up to 90 minutes of sweaty vinyasa flow action; they really build that fire within! They do offer 60 and 75 minute classes as well, and some other classes such as “High Vibe: Cannabis Flow.”
I feel like I get much more of a workout here than at other yoga places. I wish they had more than one men’s shower, but there aren’t usually that many guys so I never have to wait very long for the shower. I’m told that there are two women’s showers.
It is BY FAR the best yoga deal in town ($69/month unlimited) but occasionally they sell a $50 a month membership special which is even better! If you sweat a lot bring your own extra towel because they are fairly militant about the “one towel per customer” rule.
I highly recommend this place.

I drove in rush hour traffic from Lake Oswego and then had to find parking. I got there at 5:33 class started at 5:30 and the woman said to me as I entered the class sorry I can’t let you in because I didn’t sign a waiver. In thousands of classes with top teachers in LA not once did I encounter something like this. It is easy to have that form at the front and you have now lost a customer for life. Yoga is about compassion and I drove all the way to your studio arriving 3 minutes late.

No one has contacted me back in over a weeks time and I have been once again charged for a service I’m using. I emailed twice and have called twice. I feel like if I live out of state now I shouldn’t have to pay for this when I have made the effort to cancel it multiple times with no communication back from this studio. $69 to a studio I can’t even go to.
