About the Club

We are a private personal training gym. We work with all ages including kids and older adults. Our clients have a wide range of abilities and goals so we 100% customize each workout to fit their needs to help them achieve their health and fitness goals. These goals include weight loss, increasing strength, improve mobility, sport performance, injury prevention + rehabilitation, and more. Our knowledgeable trainers have MS degrees in Exercise Science and have years of practical experience too.

Become Better changed my life-I know…dramatic, but it’s true. Before joining, I had been through years of surgeries, illness, & weight gain/loss that left me weak and always hurting myself. I knew I had to get stronger to have the life I wanted, but I didn’t know how to do it. In January 2022 I started coming to BB. They had patience as I asked a million questions & created an environment where I gained more confidence. They helped me recover from injuries & taught me how to hurt myself less. They have pushed me to find my strengths and gave me a place to use some competitive energy. They created a friendly, non-intimidating gym where I have built friendships and found comfort when life was hard. I have more energy, hurt less, and have learned how to take care of myself. I fully believe I will live a longer, fuller life because I joined this gym. So 5 stars doesn’t seem quite enough, because my life is forever better by joining Become Better.

Needed a kickstart after a couple year lapse from any serious weight training regiment. Started with a trainer and transitioned to an unlimited workout membership. Been a member for 2+ years and feeling great. Top of the line equipment and facilities. Amazing gym with a community feel. Trainers are all great and design workouts according to your goals. Plenty of opportunities for engagement with inter gym competitions and activities like Summer Olympics and Fantasy leagues. Can’t recommend it enough.

I’ve belonged to several gyms over the years and have never really enjoyed it until now. I genuinely love going to Become Better and look forward to every session. The equipment here is high quality and organized, it’s a great atmosphere and the coaches are fantastic. I’ve never felt like I wasn’t supported. As someone who has a hard time even finding time to workout, I appreciate that I come in and I don’t need to think about a plan, it’s already created for me. One of the biggest things here though is the community. This is way more than a gym and it truly feels like everyone is welcome. All ages, all body types, all ability levels. I have been going to Become Better for 3.5 years. All of the coaches are very knowledgeable and helpful. The owner Dan is the coach that creates my workout plan which is tailored around my personal fitness goals of becoming faster, jumping higher, and getting stronger as I continue to enjoy playing basketball and other sports in my early 40s. Dan has helped me to achieve these goals and this makes it much easier and more fun for me when I step on the court with younger individuals in their late 20s/early 30s. At Become Better it's not just about individual goals and achievements, but also about a sense of community and motivating other fitness members. Overall, Dan and the other coaches make fitness fun and consistently push you to become better! I highly recommend.

I began working with Dan when I was 16 years old (about 12 years ago?) and worked with him throughout high school and college. It was obvious from the start that he cared and was passionate about helping people achieve their fitness goals.

Dan and his team will not only make you stronger, but will give you the tools and knowledge you need to maintain your level of fitness as well as give you a community within the gym that is fun, active and healthily competitive to get you to your goals.

I no longer work with Become Better as I have moved away from the area, but I use the knowledge he gave me to maintain my fitness and it's worked! I started at this gym 3 months ago and on a scale from 1-10 I would give it a ten. I have 8 different exercises each day for a total of 24 different exercises each week.
The instructions are fantastic they explain and demonstrate each exercise in the private session then I moved into the semi private session I rate my exercises and get updated work out plans. Really get a great workout every time and constantly

One of my favorite places to be! The equipment is extremely well-kept, the coaches are so friendly and understanding, and the environment is incredibly welcoming. I’ve spent ~2 years training at Become Better and I could not have found to a better gym. Dan Knorr is the best coach I’ve ever had and his workouts were specifically catered to my needs in the gym. He pushes his clients when they need to be pushed and changes his coaching attitude to fit the personality and goals of each client. He’s also extremely friendly and is willing to pause whatever he’s doing to have a conversation with you. This gym is great for any person looking to Become Better at their sport, become healthier, or even just move their body. In addition, the environment created at the gym by the coaches and clients is unmatched. I have never felt more welcome in a gym than when I stepped foot into Become Better. The culture that has been created by Dan, Joey, Anthony, Candice, and Morgan is one of support for each other but also accountability and competition. Instead of just competing with yourself, Become Better holds events like the Summer/Winter Olympics that allow you to compete with other members throughout the gym. This not only pushes you to Become Better, but to interact with others throughout the gym no matter what age or background. You will never feel lonely in Become Better. I bring my 10&13 yr old boys here. They LOVE coming. The trainers help them to learn how to work out safely and keep it fun with some competition between them (ie running sprints to see who’s fastest). The nice thing is that they tailor it to my kids. For instance my oldest is a lot more overweight than my youngest. the trainers push him but just enough to build confidence without making him feel like he’s a failure. We really like it here for our boys. The only downfall is how far it is from us bc we live in east Washington. Trying to find ANY workout facility that helps younger kids build confidence and get healthy is ,sadly, like trying to find a spotted owl. It doesn’t happen. So we are really fortunate to have found this place.

This was one of the cleanest most organized gym I have been to. Dan trained me one on one and I was so impressed by the knowledge he had. He used simple movements to train me but they seemed to be working every fiber in my muscles. I also received an hour long massage by Igor, he was incredible! He knew exactly which muscles were tight and was able to release a lot of tension! This place is a hidden gem in Pittsburg! The staff are very experienced and knowledgeable!

The trainers are the heart and soul of BBS…the way that my children relate to all the trainers and want to perform for them, has been so beneficial to their fitness goals! They work hard and have fun! I love hearing stories on the way home about something that made them laugh, a new person at the gym they made friends with, or a goal they met while doing their work out! The atmosphere is positive, welcoming, and fun! The staff goes above and beyond to ensure that members meet and exceed their goals! Best gym experience I've ever had. I'm in my late 20's and haven't been in the best shape, so I decided I needed to make a change. I started going here only twice a week over the past six months. Now I am the strongest I've ever been.

My performance is only half the reason I come here - Dan and the rest of the training staff make sure you feel a sense of belonging, and meet you wherever you're at in life. My kids do personal training for 30 min. They love every minute and ask when we are coming back as we leave. The trainers are amazing they give them the extra encouragement to keep going and push through their uncomfortable sets. And with each exercise, I see them get better and better. Literaly, they'll do a run of an exercise to gain a baseline, and the next run, they know the goal to beat. I've never seen my kids sweat so much. If I could give 10 stars, I would. Since I wrote my original review, this place has changed! The gym has moved to a beautiful new facility that is full of equipment and loads of space. My teenagers have also started to work out at Become Better. I love that they are supervised by highly educated and FUN trainers, who make sure they are safe and using proper techniques. And after 4 years, I'm still working out at Become Better. The trainers are terrific motivators who have helped me greatly improve my overall fitness level. I have reached goals I never thought I was capable of --- but Dan and his trainers supported me all the way. Highly recommend this place!!

I’ve been working with Dan and his team at Become Better for several months, and I can highly recommend to anyone wanting to improve their fitness level. Dan and trainers Nik and Joey are motivating and encouraging. Workouts are never boring but are constantly changing and challenging you. I’ve been training and working out with “Become Better” for the last 7 years. They just moved and expanded into a convenient location April 2022. The equipment is the best and newest! The trainers there make sure that you are using the equipment properly so you don’t hurt yourself and get the most out of whatever you are strengthening.

I have been coming to Become Better Sports Performance for 2 years now. I started with 2 days a week of personal training and switched to 3 days a week with semi-private training. I am consistent and have really tried to eat healthy. I have lost 23 pounds over 2 years. I’ve worked hard but the trainers are great! They have worked with me to reach my goals. The gym can be intimidating but they will give you the guidance to make you comfortable. When I started I complained about lunges and said my knees hurt. I’ve built strength and now can do lunges pain free. I also get bored easily, they change my program to add new exercises regularly. They make sure I’m performing the exercise correctly which is a must. They are super supportive! Definitely a great group of trainers.

Here are my top 5 reasons why Become Better is the best:
1. Efficiency- I am able to show up twice a week, work out for an hour and feel accomplished.

2. Community- This is a group of people who are motivated to reach their goals. At the same time, everyone here is supportive of those around them. People are happy to say hello, be friendly, and then get back to work.

3. Decision free, smart training- The workout programs are clearly thought out and individualized for personal needs. These guys have degrees and life experience, and aren’t just following trends. I just have to show up. I trust that if I do what is on the paper it will be challenging and move me forward. And if for some reason it isn’t, there is open communication to adjust the exercise/rep/weight to make sure it is in the future.

4. Accountability- I have a demanding work life, with on call responsibilities. Getting told to just show up, rather than cancel all together, has been huge for me in terms sticking with a workout routine. I always feel better, even if it is just 30 minutes.

5. Safe workout space-These trainers want everyone to get to their goals safely. Part of that is making appropriate programs, but another is making sure people are coached in real time. The trainers are happy to answer questions, and will stop you if you aren’t doing an exercise correctly. This can not be done on your own, and is not found with other trainers.

Let's face it. The zombie apocalypse is coming. If you're like me, you want to be prepared. Fitness will be a key part of your strategy whether your plan is to run, hide, or fight. My fitness level started at approximately 0. I'm not an athlete. I'm not even a former athlete, I'm just a tired Dad who refuses to give up his brainz when the hordes come.

With that in mind, I elected to train with Dan and Joey of Become Better Sports Performance and Personal Training. Because you're honestly delusional if you're entrusting your survival to some random Planet Fitness membership.

After approximately 1 year of training, I would report that my zombie apocalypse survival chances are >10% higher than they were a year ago. Which is such a gift. I'm stronger, I have more energy, and I now feel confident that I wouldn't be the slowest in a group being chased (honestly, so key).

Pros:
- Everyone there is friendly. Even when Dan yells up at me if I'm doing an exercise poorly, he does it with love (not the kissy kind).
- Having a time you are supposed to meet with a trainer means you have to go. For the previous 30+ years of my life I was going to get in shape the *next* day or the *next* week. Now if I don't go, I make Joey sad. Don’t make Joey sad, show up.
- Exercises are tailored to your specific goals, level, body, etc. My body is like the Will Ferrell streaking scene from "Old School" so my training plan is set more towards someone who prefers nachos to protein bars. That's where the personal in personal training comes in because they're nacho exercises, they're mine.
- They teach you how to do things correctly which is especially important when you have absolutely no idea what you're doing, like me. It's easy to hurt yourself working out, but Dan doesn't allow that in his gym, except for maybe some light emotional pain.
- It's a mix of people at different levels and not like, a bunch of bros getting swole. This is important to me.
- I have muscles now in places I did not previously have them. I showed one to Joey the other day and he said it was a tricep. I uploaded a picture of it to Instagram and now I have ~100 offers to collaborate with fitness influencers. Wait, that might be a con... maybe keep those triceps bulges hidden in their sleeves...

Cons:
- Gym gets hot in the summer. The title of a 2009 EP by The Lawrence Arms describes it well.
- If you don't like early 2000s hip-hop and Dan has the aux, you just have to deal. But if you wear a hoodie and scowl, you can pretend you’re in “8 Mile,” so not all bad.

Conclusion: 5 out of 5 stars. Would sweat there again.

I would rate this gym, and most importantly the trainers, a 10 out of 10!! Become Better has absolutely changed my life for the better! Coming from someone who hated the thought of working out and has probably paid years worth of “$1 down, $10 a month” memberships yielding no results. I never felt comfortable at other gyms because I never knew what I was doing and was too intimidated to ask for help. All of the trainers at Become Better are extremely knowledgeable and very friendly and approachable. I have learned and grown so much from going there for the past year. I love the personal training experience at Become Better. For context - 1. I am lazy and noncommittal. 2. I have never enjoyed fitness programs before. So, that first sentence is saying a lot. I am in my eighth month at Become Better, and I plan on being here forever. The personal trainers are excellent. They calibrate the workouts constantly. You also have your space and independence if you want that. The atmosphere is fun, serious, and motivating at the same time. Building strength is gradual but real. One day I realized I could finally climb a steep trail with a backpack without stopping to catch my breath because my legs were finally able to do the work giving my heart and lungs a break! Everything is easier when you're stronger and healthier. Five stars and thumbs up!

Dan at Become Better wrote a plan for me so that I could exercise from home. It is far better than anything I was doing on my own. I am stronger, have better balance and my arms have more definition. The onine videos are very helpful and Dan responds to me quickly when I have questions. He has the education and industry know-how to backup all his advice. At age 66, I golf, hike, bike 20+ miles, do yardwork and can still move furniture around!

I’ve gotten way stronger and improved on my sports since I’ve gotten here! This baseball season I have increased both my pitching speed and base running speed. I enjoy working out at least three days a week to help improve my strength overall. I coach volleyball in the area year round. I've sent both high school and club players to train with Dan at Become Better SPPT, and I cannot recommend his services enough.

I've seen him produce great improvements in the athleticism, strength, and specifically jump power of so many of my athletes. I watch high school players get stronger year after year of training with him, and I watch club players jumping noticeably higher after just a short club season of working with Dan.

Volleyball seasons are short, and injuries are bad. I know he ensures their safety not only while they're training with him, but also while they're playing by preventing muscle imbalances and focusing on strength and stability. Injury prevention is so overlooked but such an important part of getting through a full season.

As a final note, the athletes just really like training there. It's a good environment focused on self improvement and motivation. I see athletes becoming not only stronger, but much more confident in themselves.

Where do I even begin? This gym has changed my life. I have found a passion in powerlifting. I broke both of my arms 2 years ago and now I'm lifting heavy weights and not letting my own deficit get in the way. I've been training at BBSPT since November. I train with coach Nik who is extremely knowledgeable, has one hell of a program, and believes in you. All of the coaches are amazing and have pushed me to do my best. I have gained a second family being here and have met some incredible people along the way. The amount of support from not only the coaches, but the clients is something you don't see everywhere. I truly found a place that is accepting of me and I will forever be grateful. The equipment and gym is always spotless and everyone does their part to put their equipment away. I love the challenges the Dan comes up with and has friendly competitions between clients. The price is worth the amount of hard work you put in. I've lost weight, inches, and gained strength. I started going to these guys a few months ago. I was a pretty consistent gym goer (4-5 times a week) for most of my life but didn’t see much progress or have noticeable results. Just going once or twice a week for a few months has changed that! I work mostly with Nik who is just the right level of tough and fun. The price seems fair for the quality of training I get. The other two trainers and the whole experience are positive as well. It was a huge selling point for me to know that all three guys have their Master’s degrees and know what they are doing. Plus, they are pretty nice guys! Besides the one-on-one training, they also have a few conditioning classes available which is also a great workout! I drive 30 minutes to get to these workouts: definitely worth it!

I’ve been coming to Become Better for about a year now. I had just moved from out of state and I was in a little bit of a workout rut and Become Better has done the trick!

Here is a breakdown of all the things that are important to me when looking for a gym:

The trainers: Joey, Nik, and Dan are fantastic. I train 3 x per week with primarily Joey and sometimes Nik. They are always encouraging and hold me accountable to my goals in and out of the gym.

Programming: Joey has written me a very challenging program that has allowed me to achieve several of the performance and aesthetic goals I’ve set for myself. It’s never easy, but it’s definitely gotten me results. We focus on form and safety first and foremost, and then add weight/reps/difficulty as my ability increases.

Equipment: Pretty much all the gym equipment you could hope for. Highlights are high quality Olympic Lifting weights, a fan bike, a rower, two sleds, and all the other basic gym equipment.

Pricing: VERY reasonably priced for the expert knowledge and training I receive. Worth every penny.

Scheduling: As a busy young professional, scheduling was really important to me. They are very flexible when I am out of town or have a work commitment, so scheduling sessions is no problem. I believe the gym is even open 365 days a year!

Members: The other members are fantastic. You’ve never met a nicer group of people. Ability ranges from beginners to some very good athletes.

Parking: No problem! A huge parking lot with plenty of spaces.

All in all, a fantastic gym with great trainers that gets results in a safe and fun way. I look forward to every session.

I have been working with Dan and his team for the past two years. I feel better right now than I did 10 years ago. I am stronger, and have more aerobic capacity than before. Right now, I am concentrating on strength and weight loss and the results are starting to show.

I started with Become Better Sports Performance & Personal Training about one year ago. Dan has be an excellent coach since day one. I suffer from a back injury that limited my ability to lift the way I was used to. One of the first things Dan asked me when I started was what my fitness goals were, and I said to be able to squat and dead lift again. Dan assured me that if I was patient and put in the time he would have me back to doing these exercises in no time! Sure enough a year later, not only can I perform these exercises, I can perform them at a weight I never thought I would reach again. Not only has Dan helped me achieve my weight lifting goals, he has helped me with my over all self image. He is patient, and each question or concern I have, no matter how ridiculous I may sound asking, Dan takes the time to talk to me and reassure me that this is a process, and that if I stick with my goals, I will reach them. He holds me accountable, and helps with my nutrition plans as well, which has been extremely helpful to me over the last year.
Dan tailors programs to each of his clients needs, and creates programs based on their strengths and goals. You can tell through the amount of work and dedication he puts into writing these individual programs, that Dan treats each person as if they were his only client, and that he genuinely cares about you, and your fitness goals.
The group of people at the gym are all very nice, and welcoming, which creates an overall positive environment. I would highly recommend Dan, and this gym to anyone who is interested in personal training and fitness! Hiring a personal trainer is the best thing I’ve ever done. That was 10 years ago and I’m still with it. I came to Become Better with physical limitations due to surgery. I was met with a variety of workouts aimed at increasing balance, shoulder range of motion, stronger abs, strength in arms, legs and back. I was gently pushed beyond goals I achieved. I feel infinitely stronger having completed almost two years in training.
