I have had classes with Vicki, Nancilee, and Courtney and they have all been wonderful. Each class is different and each teacher brings their own je ne sais quoi. I feel welcomed every time I come in. Happy to be apart of this studio.

Disheartening experience at a studio that ironically discouraged breathing.

From Yogi to Yogis:

In my 18 years of practicing yoga across roughly twenty studios, I’ve never been treated poorly by an instructor for something as fundamental as breathing — until now.

During this class, my body naturally released tension through involuntary sighs — something that happens without conscious control. At the end of class, the instructor told me my breathing was “distracting,” in a tone that felt accusatory and dismissive.

There had been no instruction provided about breath (such as through the nose or mouth), and no inquiry afterward about what might have been happening in my body. This response reflected a lack of trauma-informed awareness or curiosity — key elements of a safe and inclusive practice.

For me, yoga has always been a place of refuge and safety, so it was disheartening to feel shamed for something unintentional and natural. The studio’s name, “BREATHE,” felt especially ironic in this context. Loud pop music (Bruno Mars-type) played throughout class, yet I was told my breathing wasn’t appropriate — a confusing and contradictory message. I left feeling excluded rather than supported.

I share this so others are aware: if your body responds in a way outside their narrow expectations, this may not be a safe or inclusive space. It was the first time I’ve ever left a yoga class feeling worse than when I arrived.

I reached out privately via email in hopes of understanding one another. Unfortunately, both owners/instructors doubled down rather than engaging in dialogue or taking accountability for the lack of instruction around breathwork.

In response to the owners’ statement: breathing is not a “unique experience.” If my breathing truly isn’t a good fit for this studio, why refuse to refund the remaining prepaid classes? These five classes were a thoughtful gift from a family member who knew how meaningful yoga has been to me since middle school. Despite a written request, neither a refund nor a direct response was provided.

I share this in good faith — not out of anger, but out of a wish for awareness, empathy, and more trauma-informed inclusivity in spaces meant for healing, simply breathing and permission to exist and be.

I find it interesting that after I shared my experience on here, a review showed up that specifically outlined a totally different experience. It feels very coincidental. I googled it and there is no one who goes by that name in western PA. However, a famous artist whose work is in NYC museum at The Met. It’s almost like it’s made up?

I had an absolutely WONDERFUL experience at BREATHE Power Yoga—If I could give more than 5 stars, I would!
I have been practicing yoga for several years, but have had a lapse in my practice recently. I was a bit apprehensive about starting up a power practice at a new studio, but I had such a wonderful experience at the studio this morning and it validated my choice to jump back into the practice!
I was thrilled to be greeted and welcomed into the studio by one of the owners, who gave me a tour of the studio space and everything I needed to know about the practice and the studio!
The instructor could not have been more welcoming! I chose to take advantage of their new client special, which allows me to practice unlimited for a whole week.
If you are looking for a studio to call home, try BREATHE! You won’t be disapprointed!

I did the 1-week new student pass at Breathe Studio, and I’m really glad I did! As someone newer to yoga and hesitant to try new places, I felt instantly welcomed. The instructors are supportive and make classes enjoyable for all levels. If you’re looking for a friendly and inviting yoga studio, I highly recommend Breathe!

If I could give more stars, I would! Vicki and Nancilee are so warm and welcoming. It was my first time in the studio and they made me feel right at home as soon as I stepped in. The studio is spacious and wonderfully warm with the infrared heaters. The hot power yoga class was a great workout. I can’t wait to try more of their classes. I will 100% be returning when I am back in town!
