I've been going to DCL since March 2025. I take the Fire & Ice (muay thai/yoga) class, participate in Sabbath Sunday yoga, go to their "bootcamp" and attend their special productions and events, so I have been able to enjoy a variety of experiences with this gym. This is a really special place. I have always loved working out and feeling strong, but after a few years off because of an injury, I was basically starting over as a beginner. The gym is a very welcoming, accommodating, affirming, and encouraging space for all levels. Your ability level and participation are celebrated, no matter whether you are a beginner, advanced, or returning to workouts after a long hiatus. The vibe of the space allows someone like myself, who lacks a certain amount of confidence, to enjoy movement without feeling judged or competitive with my peers - though I do feel motivated by their encouragement and camaraderie. Additionally, the gym fosters a sense of community and provides something akin to the much missed "third space," in which people can gather with like minded fellows who swiftly feel like long-time friends (check out their Goth Book Club!). At the helm of this incredible space is owner/instructor Zak, who really is the driving force behind just how exceptional, inclusive, and community-oriented the space feels. He excels at making classes engaging and accessible to all levels of participants, providing enough modifications to make beginners feel comfortable and encouraging more advanced people to push themselves, always with a focus on celebrating what your body can do and caring for your body, mind, and community. It's a wonderful vibe. Highly recommend to anyone looking to add or evolve a workout routine, who values community, and/or who likes Black Sabbath. 🀘 Really cannot say enough good things about this Allentown gem.

The yoga classes offered here are hands down the best experience if you tend to feel like an outsider at other yoga classes or gym settings. It is the most welcoming environment I’ve ever been in. In the past year of going to these classes it has helped me learn to appreciate my body and its abilities and to slow down a little in an all-too-distracting society. You will feel accepted for who you are and get a great workout in. Zak, the crypt keeper, is the most genuine and encouraging yoga instructor I’ve ever encountered. His capability to offer a class suitable for beginners but with adjustments for the advanced is incomparable in my opinion. If you find yourself knowing you need to do something with your physical self but feel hesitant to try it out, take the leap, because the crypt is your place. It is one of a kind.

I have attended probably 10 yoga classes so far at DCL and each one has been a great experience. Sabbath Sundays are just an overall fun vibe, you will leave feeling like you got a good workout in while also feeling relaxed and refreshed. Yin yoga is amazing for a more meditative vibe and awesome for stretching and resetting the body. Zak is a very welcoming instructor and explains each movement in detail, so if you have never done yoga before you will not be lost or confused, his classes are awesome for beginners and more advanced yogis. DCL also always has planned events and retreats outside of the regular gym on their schedule, which I think is super cool. I would recommend this gym to absolutely anyone. πŸ–€

I have never been one to want to go to a gym, but found myself on a journey to get in better shape, We were recommended "Death Comes Lifting" and found it to be an amazing fit for us. Zak Bellante has created such a great space for us misfits and weirdos that is so open and accepting to all. He has been our personal trainer for a couple of months now and I cannot believe the results, I have not felt in such good shape in so long. The encouragement, way Zak listens to your goals and desires is beyond amazing, and he will help you achieve it. Baron and Baroness VonYinzer

The absolute coolest gym I’ve ever been to! I’ve never been a fan of going out to gyms to work out but Zak and everyone at DCL is super inviting. I’ve been a long time follower of the Sabbath Sunday Yoga, by far the best hour I’ve spent on a Sunday. Black Sabbath and yoga combined!? Zak always makes sure the yoga is to everyone’s level, from a beginner like me to more advanced, he always offers modifications to poses. Anyone trying to find a place to work out make sure to check out DCL, they’ll make sure you feel welcomed and accepted!

DCL is genuinely the most inclusive gym I have ever been to. As a bigger girl, it can be hard to find places that make me feel welcome. DCL is special, and I feel comfortable going there. They have something for everyone!

If you've ever avoided getting fit because you felt out of place at the gym this is the place for you.

Zak & company have a great studio/gym that follows the punk DIY attitude and a horror centric feel.

Offering yoga classes, open gym, personal training, and now Muay Thai classes this place has something for everyone.

As someone who is socially awkward I've talked to more people here than I have at any gym I've been to. It's a very chill environment and just feels like friends hanging out.

Visiting from CO and the ability to move a bit in a spooky environment sounded great. The yoga class was just what we need after spending a week in a car. The gym was clean and the instructor and other gym goers were all incredibly nice. Will definitely be coming back ithe next time we're here

The crypt gym has got to be the most unique workout space in Pittsburgh. The yoga classes are so good, you'll be hooked. The instructor Zak does a phenomenal job for beginners as well as advanced. Awesome environment with great people working there as well as working out there.

The DCL Crypt is run by some great folks that foster a fun and motivating atmosphere. The space is unlike any other commercial gym in the best way, and brings the metal/horror/punk/weirdo vibes that make the Lifting Dead Army special!

A goth gym space that is exactly as welcoming and unique as it sounds. 🀘🏼 I was in town for work and grabbed a day pass as soon as I heard about DCL. I was able to do my full commercial gym workout (which was my main goal) and am confident that this would be my main gym if I lived here. The theming is so fun, the vibes are immaculate, the pricing is perfect, and the owners are incredibly sweet and knowledgeable.

Death Comes Lifting is a great gym AND it's more than just a gym. It's clear to me this is a community service and space. During my brief day-pass visit, I witnessed the tail end of a packed Sabbath Sunday yoga class, event planning for an exciting community event coming up, thoughtful and encouraging personal training, deadlifters in the dungeon - and I picked up a whole new wardrobe of killer art/high quality merch.

Newbie and expert gym goers alike thrive. Misfits unite. Growth happens here. Stop by and see how you fit in at this deliciously darker crypt gym for yourself!

I was excited when I seen the announcement that this gym was going to open, and especially so when I seen it is right down the street from my house. If you are on the fence about checking it out, you should definitely stop by! It’s very inclusive and every one here is very friendly and helpful. It’s truly fitness for the misfits.
