We offer Personal Training, Small Group Training, Nutrition, Sports Performance Training, and Customized Program Design Programs. Our staff is extremely knowledgeable, caring, and passionate about helping our members reach their goals and live healthier.

I love the small group personal training at First Capital Gym! After having 4 kids I had gained significant weight and hadn’t taken care of my body. I chose to have bariatric surgery and successfully lost 85 lbs. Next, I decided it was time to get into a good workout routine. I never expected all of the benefits that I would get from coming here. I had never truly learned how to properly workout before. In two years coming here, I have become the fittest I have been in my adult life. An outstanding, truly personalized gym experience.
I started with three months of 1:1 training with Mike last summer and have been attending early morning group classes three times a week ever since. I joined First Capital gym to continue the rehabilitation of my shoulder that I had just finished physical therapy for. I had never been much of a gym person but am a runner with good endurance and lots of miles under my belt. The staff at First Capital were welcoming, attentive and interested in me succeeding at my goals. The small class format was perfect for me to learn the basics under watchful eyes and constant guidance. I took the introductory 6 week class and then continued with a regular membership. I definitely feel stronger and my shoulder has been pain free. I also improved my times at my two spring running races and felt stronger during the races as well as my running in general. I highly recommend First Capital Gym to anyone over 40 who wants to work on there strength, health and general wellness!

First Capital Gym is not a one-size-fits-all gym. This is what drew me to become a member. I was looking for a gym with a more focused setting, personalized group training and a positive atmosphere and found it all here. My main goal was to get in better shape, but as I progressed I have also attained more energy and am getting stronger. I work in construction and the workouts that are offered here have helped me immensely in my strength and endurance, not to mention mental sharpness. I feel so much better since becoming a member here, two years ago and counting, and will continue to be a part of this group setting. If you seek results and accountability, then you should check out First Capital Gym. In about a year I have lost 20 pounds & a few inches of waist while gaining a tremendous amount of strength. Ryan and his team run a WOD-style program, but the format is much more approachable (& safe) than is crossfit. The gym is billed as an over-40 gym, but there are men & women from 30 to 60 in my classes and everyone is positive, supportive and we have fun as a team. Ryan & the staff expect you to show up and tale your health seriously and that is exactly what I needed. The membership fee is very fair, the gym hosts many events for its members. They have also invested in the InBody System which helps with body specific analytics, such as body muscle & fat percentages. This information is optional, but I have found it to be helpful in tracking results and affirming that I am losing bad weight and gaining good weight. I cannot thank the team enough for the work they put into my personal health and fitness. FCG truly becomes a family. 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼

I visited family a few times in York and went to this gym during my visits. It is such a great gym. The owner and trainers are very kind and they definitely know what they are doing. The workouts are well crafted and different each day. The trainers are also willing and prepared to modify exercises according to any limitations or needs. Hi there! I started going to FCG in May of 2023. I'm 63 and overweight, didn't move much, had problems sleeping and not eating right. First Capital Gym has been a great place for me! The trainers are very dedicated to helping all their clients be successful. After attending FCG for the past 11 months I have gained a huge amount of confidence and strength. I work 12 hour days on my feet moving for over 15,000 steps a day. I Love this small group setting gym! We learn and perform functional type exercises while under the strong supervision of Ryan and Amber. No more "big box" or individual one on one training for this gal (boring). In this small group setting you will be motivated to keep showing up as you get strong and perform safe exercise you never thought you could or would do. I signed up for the 6 week trial the first week of July 2022. I was immediately impressed with Ryan and team at First Capital Gym. I committed to becoming a member only two weeks into the trial. Ryan is extremely knowledgeable and truly cares about each of his clients and wants them to reach their fitness goals. Over the past month of regularly attending the workouts, I have seen so much improvement in my appearance, strength, the way I feel, and my overall sense of confidence. The hardest thing about working out for me previously was knowing exactly which exercises I should do, how much weight, wondering if I was performing them 100% correctly, and not having a spotter present at all times for heavier lifts. First Capital Gym resolved all of these issues for me as I know I have the guidance I need and someone spotting/helping me throughout the workout if I have any questions. It is also great to have someone that helps keep me accountable for my fitness and nutrition progress. Work/ home life is also very busy for me and their routine hourly workouts are very easy to coordinate into my busy schedule. This gym is life changing for me and I very much look forward to each workout. The trainers have helped me enormously over the past 8+ months. The workouts at First Capital Gym has had a greater effect on me than the therapy I received after my sisters suicide(2013), my sons death(2016) and my moms death a few months ago. It’s also an investment in my health for now and the years to come. The three days a week I go (MWF-445am) are always something I look forward to because once I get there, and especially when I'm done, I feel great and the rest of the day is easily done. I can not say enough positive things about my experience at FCG! A few months ago I decided to get back to the gym. So I signed up for their 6 week training program. I was exhausted most of the time. I have arthritis in my back, knees and shoulder to name a few things that have kept me from feeling like I could go back to the gym. I seriously was not sleeping due to how much pain I was in from my shoulder and arm. I couldn’t pick up a coffee cup without pain.
The trainers at FCG have worked with me, listened, and have adapted exercises during my workouts to help me be successful!

As a social worker, my job is stressful and I spend a lot of my time helping others develop self-care skills, however I realized I wasn’t doing enough to care for myself. I’ve never been able to stick to a self-directed workout routine and frankly, I wasted a lot of money on gym memberships I never really used. Not only is it more cost effective than traditional personal training, the encouragement and support you get from your trainers and classmates is invaluable and better than any other training experience I’ve had. If you’re anything like me and you’re tired of wasting money on unused gym memberships, tired of getting bored with the same routines all the time, tired of not really knowing what to do to be healthier, and need some accountability for your fitness goals, then this is the place for you. Came in for month trial at First Capital Gym after a year of seeing my neighbor transform with massive gains, and am now fully committed. I wish I took before pics! I’m 42 years old, always have worked out and run, but never did HIIT and small group trainings. This is so motivating, and changes the whole day for me. I met Ryan Zuver through training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with him. I believe that hard, intense training reveals peoples true character. They are extremely great at their jobs. They really know how to best help you whether you are healthy already or coming off of an injury. I got in a car accident and had surgery was worried that I would lose everything I worked so hard for. They came along side me and made accommodations so that I could workout. I would highly recommend First capital gym. I have had membership with other gyms in the past. I was trying to do workout on my own with the help of YouTube. Update: I've been training at FCG for over two years now. I am stronger than I have ever been! The small group training is very effective. It has been a perfect balance to increase strength without causing injury. The coaches are professional and know what they are doing. Gym is also super clean! I've been really happy with Ryan's strength training program he has put together for me. He started out with an interview to evaluate my goals and current fitness levels. My sister raved about First Capital Gym, and encouraged me to check it out. I'm so glad I did! Fitness isn't a one size fits all thing, and Ryan and Amber don't have a one size fits all approach. They listen to you as a client and don't want you to do something that doesn't feel good to your body. I started at First Capital Gym right before everything was shut down due to COVID. Ryan and Amber put so much effort in to staying connected to their clients and created live sessions that we did at home, while they instructed intently making sure our form was spot on. They've reopened the gym two weeks ago, and they are continuing to go above and beyond with necessary measures to keep the gym clean and provide excellent training sessions. This summer will be my last summer training as a college athlete, and I wanted to do it the right way. Heading into my senior season of track I wanted to focus on working on my weak areas, as well as building upon my strengths. For me this meant spending a lot of time working on my single leg hamstring strength, as with this past track season I had some hamstring issues. With the help of Method Strength and Performance I was able to grind away on a program that was crafted for my specific needs. I have just two weeks left in the summer training program, but I am very happy with the progress that I have been able to make throughout this summer. My mom also trains with Method Strength and Performance, and with their help was able to become a certified Strong First kettle bell instructor. I first met Ryan when I decided to train for my Strong First level one kettle bell certification. I knew very little about kettle bells at the time and I knew I needed a good coach. The certification is very demanding. In addition to performing six moves with precision, I needed to snatch a 12 kg kettle bell 100 times in less than five minutes. I couldn’t have done this without Ryan’s help. He is a great coach. I’m happy to say that after six month of training with him I passed my certification. I can’t thank Ryan enough.

Ryan will take the time to show you how to properly do an exercise, so you get maximum benefit without risking injury. I have never been a member of a gym or worked out with a trainer before coming to Ryan and Amber at Method Strength and Performance. Most of my exercising has been on my own and very sporadic, outside of organized sports. As I approach midlife, I am realizing I need to get serious about my fat loss and gain the strength I need to be healthy and productive in all aspects of life both now and in the future. I am definitely not one who is intrinsically motivated to get up early in the morning and work out, but from the onset of my first time at Method Small Group Training class, I knew I was in the right place and the motivation just literally came naturally. Ryan's initial interview and functional movement screen process showed me that I was not just on my own, but working under the leadership and expertise of a professional who actually cared about my goals and really challenged me to think critically about them, as well as about the process that it would take to achieve them.

I went to Ryan to get some coaching on my dead lifts, squats, and bench press. I had been learning technique from videos and friends, but needed to get some individual coaching to progress. Ryan started by doing a mobility screening to make sure I could do the lifts safely, and identify where I needed improved mobility to progress in my lifts. The second session he analyzed my form, gave me a few crucial cues and right away the lifts got easier. I've spent the few weeks since using lighter weights and focusing on my form to cement the new skills. I just recently PRed on all three lifts and am looking forward to new PRs this week.

As if that wasn't enough, Ryan was absolutely professional in every way during the sessions, over the phone, communicating over email, etc. I highly recommend him!
