I have been going to the gym on and off for most of my life, have lacked consistency in doing so, and never knew what to do when I actually got there....that is, until I began going to G-Strength. Zach and Jared have been instrumental in getting my fitness journey back on track by giving me tailored exercises and helping me with form, which I have always struggled with. I look forward to going every week, and this gym is exactly what I needed in my life.

This is for many reasons: This gym is perfect because I always have access to equipment during my class (as opposed to waiting a millennium for equipment at other gyms that shall not be named, because someone is just scrolling on their phone between reps). Zach and Jared help create a routine for you, which I love because all I need to do is show up and not have to think about what I need to do. There’s lots of availability and flexibility within the schedule, which allows for said consistency. 14/10, would recommend!

I hadn’t been to a gym in about 15 years and was honestly nervous to start again, but this place has been perfect for getting back into fitness. The classes are small (usually 5–6 people), so it feels almost like personal training without the isolation of working out alone.

Jared and Zach are my trainers and they’ve been awesome — they ease you in, focus on proper form, and only increase weight once you’re truly ready. No mirrors, no ego, no judgment — just supportive coaching and incremental progress. Two months in and I feel noticeably stronger every single week.

The scheduling is easy and flexible, and being able to walk here has made it that much easier to stick with it. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants a welcoming environment with real coaching and accountability.

I have been working with Zach as my personal trainer since January, and I’ve gotten noticeably stronger and more in shape!

Zach is very kind, knowledgeable, and professional. I have a prior lower back injury so I tend to be very cautious about who my trainer is and how I workout. Zach created a very safe environment for our training sessions, and for that I’m very grateful. He has also advised and encouraged me to try other sports and would tailor our sessions to prevent me from getting injured while playing sports. I’m now playing tennis for the first time after my back injury.

I've been going to G-Strength for like three months now. I joined because I was having trouble finding motivation to start the weightlifting routine I knew was important for my physical and cognitive longevity. I can't recommend G- Strength enough. I was in a rut with workouts, wanted to lift and gain muscle, but was intimidated and discouraged on my own. Coaches Jared and Zach, are the are the heart of G- Strength. They set a warm and welcoming tone for the gym and at the same time provide structure and balance. They foster an enviorment that feels good to step into, where there is laughter, banter and good vibes. For novices, the format of the work out is based on three day rotation of drills in sets of two. The Coaches design the workouts and give plenty of instruction, demo, feedback and encouragement.

I have primarily worked with Zach, who is a supremely knowledgeable trainer with a great personality so it’s always fun to come to sessions (even when getting your butt kicked). But the real draw is the way this business values its members and gives back to the Greater Philadelphia region at large with various charitable endeavors. The workouts are varied/diversified so you’re never bored and the small class size allows for individualized attention/direction to ensure correct form to prevent injury. I am only about 3 months in, but have nothing but positive things to say about g-strength! After some time away from working out after having a child, I was looking to find somewhere encouraging and hands-on while not being too intense. G-strength is perfect. I became interested in G-strength when I read that the gym offered semi-personal strength training that also could be tailored to a beginner or someone coming off an injury. So, I booked my assessment and was very happy to meet Jared and come up with a game plan to get me back up in working out after a 2-year fitness break. I’ve now been training with Jared and Zach for about 8 months, and it’s amazing how much stronger I have become since I started! It was a scary thing starting back up as a beginner, but they helped me build confidence and gave me a ton of support. Regardless of your fitness level, the environment is completely non-intimidating and just a small group of 6 clients or less each working on their own program. You get plenty of personalized attention and help with modifications when needed. We’ll keep moving forward, and I’m excited to stick with G-strength and continue to build!

Let me preface, I’ve only been here 2 months and plan on staying. I’ll be breaking this review down into 3 parts: Coaching/Programming, Community, Facility.

Coaching/Programming: The small-group training style fosters individualized coaching while encouraging autonomy to progress through the workouts. The coaches provide you with the workouts, demo the exercises, and observe to ensure proper form and technique. They’ll make adjustments if you have injuries or difficulties with specific movements. You can go at your own pace, and the coaches encourage taking rest breaks between sets. One of the main reasons I decided to stay was the encouragement from the coaches. Their support made me feel less fearful about trying new things and challenging myself.

Community: Encouraging and inspiring. One of the things that made me stay was the ego-free and kind environment from the coaches and members. It reminded me of my old gym. Truly an “iron sharpens iron” type community.

Facility: It has all the essential equipments: water station, restrooms, leg extensions, cable rows, barbells, dumbbells, kettlebells, trap/hex bars, squat racks, etc. Unfortunately East Kensington does not have a shower. Not a dealbreaker for me, I still go.

I really like it here. Would recommend. It’s been a joy to show up and work with everyone.

The gym limits the number of participants to just six at a time, creating a stress-free, intimate workout environment. This small-group setup has been a game-changer for me. This is an amazing gym! I needed accountability and support to stick to a fitness plan and g-strength provides just that. The classes are small so you get individual guidance tailored to your goals. The trainers are awesome and welcoming. I’m lifting weights I never thought I could! I can't say enough good things about this gym. I was an athlete when I was younger, but always had problems with injuries. Trying to stay in shape on my own as I got older, those injuries became even bigger problems. I hesitated to join G-Strength at first because of the cost, but it's the best money I ever spent. Their expert support has helped me build my strength carefully so my old back, shoulder, and knee injuries barely bother me anymore. After just half a year at G-Strength, I feel stronger and healthier than I did 15 years ago!

The other thing that really helps me about this gym is the scheduling system. Left to my own devices, I used to skip my planned workout sessions all the time because I either felt like I had too much work to do or felt too tired. The G-Strength system of scheduling personalized sessions in advance helps me to prioritize my health and fitness and stick to it.

I joined G-Strength Old Kensington about 2 months ago after a long hiatus from gym membership. Like a lot of folks, my lifting was mostly self-taught, aided by online resources, and I suffered injuries and setbacks. The difference between that and working with Jared and Zach at my new gym is night and day. From best practices to awesome little tips and tricks for form and effectiveness, they know their stuff. Workout programming is intentional and challenging, and the coaches keep things fresh by finding ways to spice things up on those final sets. The other folks I’ve met have been uniformly nice, real people, and the entire experience so far has been rewarding, worth the price, and excellent for keeping me consistent and motivated. This place is such a gem! I was looking for somewhere to restart my fitness journey after a year postpartum and my search led me to try out G-Strength's location in E Kensington. Very few gyms located less than a 10 minute walk from home, which really helps when you are trying to get back into the routine of working out again. The dedicated coaches, Jared and Zach, made me feel comfortable stepping foot into a new gym environment and worked with my specific fitness level to get me stronger and more confident both physically and mentally. Not only will they try to make sure you are comfortable with performing each exercise, but they will also give you the necessary push in order to make gains. I really appreciate how they emphasize good form and controlled movement at all times. The small group sessions are just the right size at 6 people max per class so that you do get enough attention. It is sometimes hard to reserve a spot (particularly mornings) since the sessions do get full, however, I've always been able to sign up for the time slot that I need at least an hour beforehand as others cancel. They've also added weekend sessions too for added flexibility. Overall, I'm fortunate to have found this gym!

Different perspective here!

My 15 year old son became interested in health and strength to supplement his soccer training and prepare for future career goals. After some recommendations from friends at the Queen Village gym we were excited to discover there is a Kensington location!

As a mother, I was most concerned about the culture of a gym. My son was looking to get stronger but also learn good habits, build confidence and most importantly be safe. After meeting Giancarlo and going through the initial intake I couldn't have been more impressed. He was kind, knowledgeable and eager to answer all of our questions.

My son has been training with Gian now for a couple of months and loves it. He's eating better (more, a lot more), sleeping better and is overall feeling really good about his progress.

The small classes really allow for personal attention from the trainers. And the daily workouts focus on form as well as progress.

The Kensington gym location is new and is tucked away in an old milk warehouse just above Fishtown. It's a super easy walk right up the EL.

And if you're lucky, you'll get to see Gian's dog Mongo while you're there.

I've been going to G strength for only about 3 months and I swear every part of my body got muscle now. I'd been working on in my own home gym for months, making very sloooow progress despite spending way more time in the gym- because I went through guesswork instead of having efficient fullbody workouts ready for me the second i walk in. & didnt have the extra encouragement of the trainers to point out when something looks too easy for me & its time to mix it up.
The best part about this gym is how the trainers tailor the experience for you. If you're a beginner who needs a gentle hand to patiently teach you proper form & ease you in with modified exercises, they will. or tailor your program to account for an injury youre recovering from, like they do for my shoulder pain. It's not remotely intimidating (& im saying that as a woman & a gay person who knows gyms are not always welcoming spaces for everybody). But also if you're a seasoned gym-goer & just need a consistent place to go with trainers to hold you accountable/hype you up into getting in that last rep, they're not going to hover or baby you. They really strike the perfect balance of giving you the extra little push to go up in weight that i wouldnt have had the confidence to do on my own in my home gym or modifications i wouldnt have even thought to try, but not uncomfortably hovering or pressuring you into lifts you're not ready for. Never once felt pressured or judged at G-strength. Just felt safe, heard, encouraged, & challenged. I really recommend G-strength to everyone, whether youre a newbie or a meathead, this place is for you

I can narrow down my experience to one term - genuine interest. My trainer, Jared, has made sure that every workout takes into consideration my previous injuries and limitations.

Before I joined this gym, I had been to "the gym" less than 10 times in my life. I am now several months in to a regular, stable routine with working out, and I owe that entirely to the format at G-Strength. Whatever you are after - experience, consistency, strength building, changes to promote general wellbeing - you will find support and tailored advice/exercises to meet your personal goals. The trainers here are foremost experts in their discipline - they know how to teach form, how to look out for injuries, and how to listen to their clients. Sessions are limited to 6 clients at at time maximum, so everyone in the gym is monitored, advised, and made to feel at home. They do that all with a kind, encouraging attitude that fosters commitment. I must have filled out a G-Strength challenge form on Instagram, more out of curiosity than intention. I was surprised that Jared, one of the owners, took my sarcastic comments seriously and contacted me to schedule a visit to the gym. Generally, I would be polite and hang up but he showed genuine concern for a surgical intervention to repair my torn posterior cruciate ligament in my right knee. I rehabbed my knee with instructions from the orthopedic surgeon and physical therapist but the initial progress has been static for many months. I am less than a week into the 28 day challenge and walking without limping and bone on bone pain.
UPDATE:I completed my 28 day challenge and I have no regrets. The results include, walking without a limp, increased endurance, less knee pain, ascending and descending stairs without using the railing to pull up, and a real pep in my step. Jared is supportive but not coddling. I am worth the investment!

This is the healthiest relationship I've ever had with my own personal fitness and I owe much of that to my training with G-Strength. I'm the most active I've ever been since attending sessions regularly over the last four months and it feels great. Their programs take the guesswork out of planning each workout, but still have enough flexibility to tailor them to your own goals. The routines achieve a good balance of challenge and achievability. I'm in and out in an hour and feel adequately "worked out" every time.

Zach and Jared are both phenomenal trainers and keep you positively motivated. I never feel pressured while I'm training, just encouraged and supported. I really enjoy my time here. I started after finishing PT for a car accident and still not being back to “normal.” Zach and Jared have worked with me to rebuild my strength and target he parts of my body that need help while working around my injuries.

In three months, I lost weight, built muscle and started feeling great again. I’m now almost completely pain free for the first time in years.

The other members are nice and welcoming. There are occasional group activities if you want to get involved, but no pressure to join them.

I've been going to G-strength for three months now and can't say enough great things about it!

I'm pretty much a newbie at working out and have had lower back pain off and on (apparently I don't know how to shovel properly or sleep right 😂). Zach has been an amazing trainer who always checks in to see how the exercise is feeling in my body and will give me modifications if I feel my back tensing or if other muscles start compensating. Zach will also your biggest cheerleader: when you're (slowly) moving up in weight, when the exercise finally clicks or when you just need that extra push to get through a set (I'm looking at you side planks and bike sprints).

G-strength has very welcoming environment where they care not only about your fitness goals and seeing you progress but also take the time time to get to know you.

After a stressful first year of grad school I was looking to reconnect with my physical health and decided to get a fitness routine going. I was a die hard class person— Barry’s, SolidCore, Unite, you name it. After consistently working out using classes & ClassPass I felt I wasn’t improving and it always bugged me not knowing if I was doing things correctly.

After moving into the neighborhood, I had been exploring a few different gyms to change up the routine from primarily working out at home since the pandemic. I was intrigued by the concept of G-Strength and the ability to workout in a group setting with a personal training element. Most of my workout routine has consisted of the Peloton, running, or group classes such as barre, boxing, etc. so strength training was not something I was as familiar with, which initially felt intimidating. Not knowing what to expect, I was pleasantly surprised that from the moment I visited for my consultation, I felt extremely comfortable and welcome. I can't recommend G-Strength enough. I've been going to this gym for about 7 months now and it has been the best gym experience I've ever had. Jared, G, and the rest of the team do a great job creating work out plans that are challenging and give you an opportunity to progress and reach your goals.

The workouts feel personalized. They have a couple of different programs you can work through, depending on what you're looking to accomplish and how much experience you have. Something else I really appreciate is that they adjusted my workouts to help me work some minor injuries I had outside of the gym. Jared and G worked to accomodate me while I was recovering when I otherwise probably would have just skipped.

I was a weight lifting novice before coming to G-Strength. I still have a ton to learn, but the team does a fantastic job of explaining what you're doing, what you should be feeling, and giving you feedback. I am way more confident in the gym now than when I started, and I definitely feel like I am getting stronger and feeling better. And best of all, it's just a great environment. The gym is unpretentious, positive, clean, and never overly crowded (there are usually around 5-7 people working out at the same time).

I have had such a great experience with G-Strength. Not only am I feeling better and getting stronger, but I have met some great people at the gym and have enjoyed working with them. Everyone has been really cool and supportive, especially the staff. If you're in the area and looking for a gym, you need to at least give G-Strength a try.

I joined G-Strength after I finished physical therapy for my back this spring. Coming here is so much better than I could have imagined. The programs are easy to follow while still being interesting. G-Strength's formula has been great. Each training session consists of a maximum 6 trainees and an expert fitness coach. I recommend G-Strength so highly that 5 stars aren't enough. Instead of taking my word for it, I'd like to provide a more objective criteria to help you determine if G-Strength is for you. If you find yourself identifying with the characteristics below, which is the description of me before G-Strength, then run - don't walk - to joining G-Strength ASAP.

-You have wasted money with memberships and equipment to try getting into working out, but yo-yoed back and forth and never found anything that drove you to be consistent. I'm talking Planet Fitness, City Fitness, T25, P90X, Peloton, classpass, apps, at-home videos and exercise equipment like dumbbells. Despite having the means and desire to do it, nothing ever worked for you and you figure you're the problem.
-You need external motivation to show up. Working out at home in your living room has no real pressure and no accountability. It's so easy not to do it.
-You hate the boredom of walking into a gym with no plan. One can only cardio on a treadmill or elliptical for so long. So lame.
-You envy weight lifting and think it looks really cool and fun, but you don't know how to do it or how to start learning. You've looked into YouTube videos and online articles but thought it's too complicated and the risk of hurting yourself is too high.
-You're driven by positive feedback loops - the better you do and more progress you see, the more you're motivated to stick with things.

The coaching and attention you get is that of a 1:1 personal training which is WAY expensive. A normal person could not afford it. At G-Strength, you get the same result for a very reasonable price for the value you're getting. The coaches work with you individually and learn YOU - your personality, your strengths and weaknesses, your goals, etc. They expect that you show up - not to attend some group "class" - but that you show up for yourself and your own days and times. There's nothing "class-like" about it other than that there are other people there sometimes, but everyone is doing their own thing. The workout protocol is varied and interesting - you never dread going. In fact, you look forward to it (I swear). Before you know it, you notice progress in your form and that certain exercises that used to be hard or uncomfortable now feel easy or second nature.

When I came to this gym, I was greeted with open arms and welcomed. After an assessment, I was asked what my goals were; after that they set up a plan for success. Having all facets in house (physical therapist, nutritionist, well adapted trainers) all I had to do was the work. After more than 100 sessions I am still getting stronger and I love that. Joining G-Strength was one of the best decisions I have made! As a retired college athlete I have been searching for a workout program and environment I truly enjoy and I have found that at G-Strength.

All the coaches have been welcoming and the individualized attention has made me feel more confident with my lifts which has translated to me not being afraid to pick up heavier weights each week.
