We are a welcoming, family-friendly dojo training in traditional Shotokan Karate, under the guidance of the International Shotokan Karate Federation, chaired by Shihan Hiroyoshi Okazaki.
Granite Forest Dojo is located in beautiful Upper Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Our Sensei is Mr. Bruce Costa, author of Welcome To Karate: Unlocking the Wisdom of the Beginner’s Mind, available at the dojo and wherever books are sold. He has trained directly with Shihan Okazaki; his uncle, the renowned Shihan Teruyuki Okazaki; and many of the finest instructors worldwide, for nearly five decades.

I joined the dojo about a month ago, and my experience so far has been incredible. Everybody is super friendly, the atmosphere in the adult class is cheerful yet serious, and the instructors are all true experts in Shotokan. What really impressed me is how the classes are structured in a way that enables each student, regardless of rank, to receive the attention and guidance needed for improvement. I feel very fortunate to have discovered GFD, it is a gem waiting to be found!

Our son joined Granite Forest Dojo December of 2023. Karate quickly became his favorite activity. He has gained coordination, strength and most importantly confidence. At Granite Forest everyone is treated as family. It is a welcoming environment for people of all ages. The dojo even offers birthday parties and special events. Our son was able to have his birthday there this year and they made it memorable for everyone.

Our daughter has been part of Granite Forest Dojo for three years, and we could not be happier. Not your average dojo! Granite Forest has very knowledge instructors for all ages and skill levels. Very welcoming of those who come from other styles and show patience during the adjustment period. The dojo brings a sense of community that lacks in others.

I can’t say enough positive things about Granite Forest! From day 1 they have made us feel like family and have been supportive and encouraging to our daughter. Starting karate can be an intimidating prospect, even for adults. Thank god for the good people at Granite Forest. Bruce, Barbara, and their whole team make learning fun and rewarding for martial artists of every skill level. Not only do they create a great atmosphere inside of the dojo, they also build connections with their community and give back to good causes. This place supports the body, mind, and soul - it really is the full package.

My oldest son (now 15) went here for 4 years as a "Little Ninja" and he really enjoyed Sensei Costa and Sensei Barbara. He still talks about it even though we moved and left 5-6 years ago. He had a birthday party there, and all the kids had a such a great time! Granite Forest Dojo offers a Family-like atmosphere and patient and inspiring instructors who are very encouraging. Once we moved further away, we tried other karate studios and nothing came close to comparing so we never stayed long. Granite Forest Dojo is definitely a unique place... you are treated like family.

My son was just recently at Granite Forest Dojo for a birthday party and I was really impressed. First off most kids birthday parties are crazy and chaotic but this was wonderfully organized and the kids had a lot of fun!! My son is wild and this party made me realize that signing him up for karate might be really great for him. We spoke to the owner and he was absolutely wonderful and gave us the run down of what the classes entail and pricing. I was thrilled with the way the party was handled and am now seriously considering signing him up for the classes.
