I have been working with JoAnn at Hydration Health and Fitness for nearly two years. From day one JoAnn listened to my concerns and frustrations about my past with various diets and exercise and empathized deeply. She helped me to instill new habits that are sustainable and realistic with my day to day life. I now feel that I know how to exercise safely, set my own (realistic!!) goals, and create sustainable nutrition plans for myself. Additionally, she helped me to gain a much healthier and less negative outlook on nutrition and exercise which makes this process even more rewarding.

I did some research before contacting Joann. I've had multiple trainers over the years and have always managed to injure myself and to be stagnant in my results. I was at a point in my life where I could no longer run for miles or spend hours on cardio equipment, and I was looking for someone who could work with my hypermobile joints, and propensity toward injury and excess. It's been about a year and a half since my first visit and I can honestly say that going to Joann was the best decision I've ever made for my health. She is a wealth of knowledge and local resources. She is both sweet and tough. Her intelligence and analysis of muscle patterns and MAT work have changed my life. My posture and digestion have improved tremendously. I'm now aware of my muscle imbalances and instabilities and can work on and compensate for them. To date I've lost 22 lbs (from 157 lbs to 135 lbs, at 5'8) and gained 5 lbs of muscle. But most importantly, my confidence and relationships are the best they've ever been. If you're really ready to do the work, treat yourself to some sessions with Joann- she is a rare soul with true passion for her work, matched by years of knowledge and experience, and that makes her the best of the best. There's no end to what you can learn about your body and mind, and there's no end to the positive impact that knowledge will have on your life. I am forever grateful for her guidance!

I injured my back lifting a bass amp and instead of going to a physical therapist I went to see JoAnn. She helped me heal my back, strengthen muscles, and improve and work towards fixing my posture. I now train with her regularly twice a week and feel great! I can't speak highly enough of her. She cares deeply about her clients and does a fantastic job helping me become healthier and stronger!

I've been working with her for months and I'm already a lot stronger and more energetic. I've never been able to do any kind of regular work-out before (tried many different kinds like all of you) and now I don't miss a single session because I feel the difference in terms of my energy level at work and home throughout the week. She is not only a knowledgeable and experienced trainer but also a great person who supports you like a family member or a close friend. I feel that I got a new best friend who helps me all the time.

I've worked with four different personal trainers in the past. I've now worked with Joann and Jonah at Hydration Health & Fitness for ~8 months and can, without question, attest that both are far superior personal trainers than others I've worked with.
My favorite thing about working with Joann and Jonah is the focus on form and doing exercises correctly. I have learned that I have been doing many exercises incorrectly for years and find that I progress more quickly and painlessly when I do them as Joann and Jonah instruct. I also like that both Joann and Jonah (but especially Joann) hold my feet to the fire regarding my diet. While my diet is not great and nowhere near where I (or Joann) would like it, it is much improved over where it was when I started at Hydration Health & Fitness (along with my energy levels and the fit of my jeans). Finally, I appreciate the flexibility Joann and Jonah show with respect to scheduling sessions. I have a schedule that changes week-to-week but this is seemingly never a problem for Joann or Jonah as they always find a way to squeeze me into their workday.

Every time I squat to weed, grab a heavy skillet from the bottom cupboard, haul mulch, heft a 40 lb bag of dog food, walk 4 miles home from work, or push myself just that much harder, JoAnn is with me. When about to broach a difficult topic, notice negative inner chatter, feel vulnerable or self-conscious, or cope with surging emotion, there she is again. For me, JoAnn has been a trainer of body, heart, mind and spirit. If youβve had a tough day and listening, reflection and empathy are what you need, sheβs there to support you. Yet sheβs also great at having fun and being light, helping you barely notice that sheβs pushing you safely to do more than you ever thought possible. JoAnn helped me gain strength, manage and improve chronic joint and muscle issues, and treat low back pain using preventive and strengthening exercises, as well as specialized Muscle Activation Techniques training. JoAnn brings expertise, encouragement, wisdom and positive energy to each session, all without judgment. Her expertise, honesty, grit, intelligence, integrity and humor are evident in each interaction. JoAnn is a joy!

First of all, I hate working out and I hate eating properly. I also have never been able to effectively stick with a workout program long-term. Unfortunately, I also hate being an overweight porker, and as such, if I may quote from the movie Apollo Thirteen, I realized that "Houston, we have a problem". Obviously something in my life model had to give-enter JoAnn and Hydration Fitness and Health.
Through JoAnn's personalized workout program and dietary guidance, I have been able to:
1) Drop from 217 lbs. to a consistently maintained 190 lbs.
2) Achieve significant improvements in flexibility, joint stability and muscle mass.
3) No longer be confused at a distance with Chris Christie.
For me, JoAnn's guidance has transcended that of a 'trainer" to that of a lifestyle coach. It has allowed me to achieve significant physical and health benefits, without my having to become a Trappist monk. (Did I mention I hate to workout?)
Do yourself a favor-quit wasting time with diet fads and exercise programs that even before you start you know you will not maintain, open up the check book and go see JoAnn OR you can spend that money on new "fat" clothes.

I'm ecstatic to have finally found such fantastic personal trainers in Pittsburgh. Weight management isn't exactly something for which I am often able to find the time and motivation. If I'm going to go to a trainer it needs to be someone knowledgeable, professional and personable. I want the best. The trainers at Hydration are the best that I've found anywhere. I travel throughout Pennsylvania and the states regularly and I look forward to being back in Pittsburgh so I can get to my personal training session. The environment is clean, private, and peaceful. I find it much more enjoyable than training amongst the smelly, sweaty, crowds at the 24-hour gym. The best part is learning the correct way to do things. It's amazing to discover that there even is a correct way to do something which had always seemed so basic. It was hard at first to overcome the bad habits that I had developed through years of uneducated training. I couldn't comprehend why nobody from the gym to all my previous trainers hadn't been teaching me these things. Yet the results from slight modifications to my lifting / training habits were undeniable. I have a new perspective on personal health.

I have been an exercise enthusiast for the last 20 years and recently suffered from a minor injury that required me to change my fitness methodology. I began researching online and immediately found the Hydration Health and Fitness website. I was attracted to Hydration Fitness due to the focus on the connection between mental and physical health, something I had been missing in my fitness life. I also felt that I needed additional advice on how to heal my body through exercise and one-on-one instruction to push me toward working on certain body parts that I previously neglected. After my first session with JoAnn, I was instantly hooked. Not only has she taught me how to exercise approprately and how to work the most importatnt muscle groups to improve my posture, core strength, stability, and prevent injury, but she has assisted me in reducing my stress level and living an overall healthier life. Her holistic approach to health and fitness has permeated my daily life and I am happier, healthier, and more physically fit than I ever have been. My sessions with JoAnn are the highlights of my week and I intend to remain a client for years to come.

JoAnn has provided me with a first-rate personal training experience. Her knowledge of proper technique, anatomy, and nutrition is extremely impressive, and she knows how to translate all that information into something that is consumable and understandable. Furthermore, and more importantly, JoAnn has assisted me in being more mindful of my body and posture, and consequently she has helped me shift my way of being in the world physically, emotionally, and relationally. The bonus is that she achieves all this with an extremely affable style, a great sense of humor, and enough "push" to help me achieve greater heights. JoAnn is fantastic!

JoAnn has been my personal trainer for over six years. The work I've done with her to strengthen my core and to train "unused"muscles has successfully addressed my back and neck problems! JoAnn tailors her training to the needs individual clients. She is always encouraging and supportive but she also knows when to push me to work harder. She also has a terrific sense of humor!
I have recommended JoAnn to many friends and colleagues and will continue to do so.
