$85 for a first time class. Instructor looked mad I had never boxed before, ignored me to throw me on the treadmill for 20 minutes (destroying my knees and yelling at me whenever I turned the speed down), took money and made me feel like an idiot for bothering to come. Avoid

My son has gained confidence at James Shuler Boxing Gym. They have helped him to grow in and out of the ring and support his physical and academic goals. It has been a motivator for him in school and to grow as a boxer. The coaches are well versed in the professional aspects of training and the sport of boxing. Great place to train!

J.S.G. is a outstanding boxing/ fitness gym based on tha heart of beautiful "West Philly"
It was memorialized with the name of tha Late boxer James Shuler, close friend and fellow boxer of Percy "Buster" Custus (Owner).
This family run business incorporates that family love, hard work, and integrity.
At "Shulers", they develop the mind as well as the body and skills.
It's amazing to see mild mannered individuals transform into architects in tha ring , as they master the art of fisticuffs.
The trainers really know their crafts.
These gladiators become best friends and second families !
If you're looking for a insect and rodent free clean professional atmosphere, look no further.

I wanted to come here because when I caught wind of somebody leaving a bad review, I was caught off guard because this is not what I've experienced so I have to come leave my experience again. I debated on saying anything because what is understood, doesn't need to be explained.
My child has been coming to this gym for a while now and his coach is Muhammad. He has gone above and beyond coaching for him. He's become my son's mentor. As a mother of a biracial son who has a father who is not present 100% of the time, Muhammad has become the most positive Black representation my son has. This is important because my child is around all women at home. I first came because my child was experiencing some hardships and asked me to find a place to teach him how to box. We don't have biological family in Philly, so when I called this gym and purged all my emotions into a woman on the phone (ended up being Crystal lol), I came that very day and she along with every single brother in that gym welcomed us as family.
I also would like to address the "I don't like conflict" comment that the person left. Every person in the gym is very easy to talk to and especially Muhammad is not hard to approach, but I have to admit you as the client, child client, get out what you put in. If your child or nephew is not retaining the skill, then you can not blame that on the coach especially if you attend your sessions every other week. To remain focused is super important. No shortcuts! You can't attend twice a month and expect your kid to be at the same level as that of a child that has been there for months, or even years. Muhammad works very diligently with every single child and tailors his training to that child. If you feel as though training for your child can be turned up a notch with your child Muhammad is very reasonable and approachable. Talk to him instead of running to Google to leave a bad review. He will give his professional advice on wether or not it is a good idea to do so. You can not throw your child into the ring if he's struggling to run up and down the steps and struggling with the treadmill lol.
I'm not even going to touch on the money portion, because that part isn't my business and for all we know you could be lying. Or the account you are writing from is fraudulent and you are a jealous individual, jealous of kids that work their butts off sometimes 3-4 days a week then so may Allah Bless your soul because everyone in that gym has gone above and beyond for everyone who walks into that gym. Including my child. I thank you all the time but thank you Muhammad, Crystal, Bus and every fighter in that gym that has given my child the most priceless thing ever, his confidence and family..
Love,
Jessie

Paying for private boxing training for my nephew and Mahamad got like 3 or 4 other kids at a time. I'm bout to find another spot for my nephew because i dont like conflict. I can get past the group setting. But not when they just doing basic workouts. Hes here to learn to FIGHT. because I'm not paying for group lessons and all he do is have them hit THE pads for like 10 minutes then go right back to just talking. Sometimes hes not even paying attention to them he's talking to other people not paying real attention to his clients. The older fighters hog up the ring all the time and dont give these kids a chance. These kids barely get in the ring to even learn how to use they skills. Only one kid gets to use his skills all the time in there but what about the rest of us who are paying money just the same?? Do we matter? I brought my nephew here because I heard its the best. I get they gotta condition they body but enough is enough. I can take my almost 500 a month elsewhere for one on one. Either that or can we have certain hours JUST for one one one training. Not open gym? Its not fair to other members that are there to learn to fight. What can we do to fix this?

Hi it's Ian's Mom, just wanted to come give my 5 star rating. Thank you all for what you do for my son. Brother Khalil, Brother Muhammad, Crystal, Busta, you all provided a safe place and family for myself and more importantly my son whom we don't have any remaining living family here in Philly. My son has dealt with many obstacles, bullying in school to feeling out of place, and this place, the trainers, the owners to the people that come into the gym it is a family for real. I'm happy I walked in this gym before any body else's gym, you all really changed my life. <3 <3 Love yal fr

I've been scouring the area for physical activities for my toddler. I don't want him to get in the ring or strike anyone. I'm just trying to find some physical activities that will help my son socially and physically. I called to ask about toddler classes and he tried to shame me.The person that answers the phone was very rude. I'll try a martial arts center before I go to this establishment!

This place is filled with love. The customer service is excellent. The owners treat everyone like family and seems to have a personal relationship with all the clientele. It's been in the area a long time and is considered a staple in the neighborhood. I think it is an exceptional establishment and love how they treat people with kindness and respect.
