Favorite gym I’ve ever been to. Staff is very friendly, there’s a sauna and a machine for everything you need. Sometimes I get treated to an appearance from Nova the dog and it instantly brightens my day.

Great place to workout if you’re looking for that old school grit. They just upgraded their sauna which works great and the staff is very friendly and accommodating. 10/10 would recommend for someone who’s serious about working out.

Classic gym, staff works very hard they are all very friendly, great machine options available. Uplifting culture too! Different from other gyms because it also offers gendered sauna, tanning, olympic lifting, crossfit, powerlifting/coaching, and MMA (each separate memberships). Gym day pass is only $15 and $10 if you come with a member, $20 for powerlifting day pass. Also has a variety of different bars for different movements and types of training.

Your classic old school serious lifting gym. No frills or fancy BS equipment. Love the various membership options (day, week, month, or month to month). Makes this gym one of the most accommodating in State College. There are some cons. A lot of the weights/bars are covered in rust and need to be replaced. Rubber plates are beat to heck and severely damaged.

absolutely horrible experience wasted time money and energy dealing with bruce. did my due diligence to try and attend a boxing class and only was given completely wrong information and then when i came in to speak to bruce about attending he was rude and turned me away. the guy has a massively inflated ego and i would not recommend this place to anyone 0/10

Not a good choice for gym membership, but this is only option in downtown.

I like it. There weren't a lot of plates and the dumbbells only went up to 45lbs but it was nice.

Update: There is another area that has heavier dumbells. Didn't know about it before. The real issue is the bathroom not upkept properly.

By far the best location and the best members of any gym in State College. It’s right downtown, free parking, and has everything you need wether you’re just starting your fitness journey or are a competitive weight lifter!

Sauna NEVER works. Equipment is very old and and rusty. Membership is way too expensive for what this β€œgym” is.

Staff doesn’t do anything to change or improve

The equipment is old and dirty. If a machine breaks they don’t fix it. Bathrooms are gross. If you care about lighting while you workout then DO NOT pay for this place. To top it off you get charged for an extra month if you don't cancel 30 days before the next bill. So since I cancelled 4th instead of the 1st I am paying for the whole next month too. This info about cancellation is tucked in a nice quiet little corner at the bottom of their website. This place is a racket.

support local businesses!

such a great vibe at this gym, from the friendly staff to the classic feel you get from working out here. they have so much to offer, from tanning, to crossfit, and enough weights and machines for everyone. there's even an octagon fighting ring! you won't find that at any other gym. as for cleanliness and covid-19 regulations they do an outstanding job.

i highly recommend

Great gym with great people. The martial arts people are super skilled and make learning martial arts very easy and fun. The front desk is laid back and personable, and crossfit seems to be really good also.

The place is old but it’s not a reason to have the machines and weights area unattended and with poor care. Some machines were rusty and in bad shape. No paper towels to clean, only couple communal cloths that already looked dirty.

The sauna wasn’t working, and the worst of my experience: there were mouse droppings in the women’s locker room!!

Most of the equipment here is dated and needs to be repaired. The staff are sometimes friendly, but they remain at the desk and are not ever on the floor to offer feedback or assistance to patrons. Machines are often broken down, a few new items have been added just recently, including lots of free weights, but the most used equipment is never maintained and often out of order. It's one of the more affordable gyms in town if you don't pay for anything extra, but it wouldn't call it q hood value.

This gym is perfect for anyone who is serious about weight training. It has almost all of the equipment someone would need for a bodybuilding or powerlifting program. I have noticed that most of the lower star ratings are coming from people who expect this gym to be like L.A. fitness, which it definitely is not. Great gym, easy to sign up even if it is just for a month.

Gym equipment was ALWAYS broken. I would try three treadmills before I found a fully working one. It got to the point where I just worked out at home. There's very little variety with lifting equipment. I was on my honeymoon and was two days late to cancel the first of the month and am now charged for the next two months even though I can't go anymore (even though cancelling takes one email, and they could have been courteous, great way to make extra money off of people). Every time I went the bathrooms were a muddy mess and so were the changing rooms. The mat section for stretching is tiny and limited. Honestly, if you want a cheap membership, go to Planet Fitness. Same price, unlimited tanning, unlimited personal training sessions, much better equipment and space.

Nothing fancy but gets the job done. Biggest issues are it's not the cleanest gym and there's a definite lack of machines. Parking can really be a pain around late afternoon as well. If you're interested in free weights or martial arts classes it's a good place. If you want a large variety of equipment or space to do things such as HITT, you might want to look around more.

This place does not care about getting new customers. If you want to register for a cross-fit dont even call here because I called and emailed multiple times to register for my first class and they were not able to provide me with the info to come there for the first time, as you are required to be registered before going there.

The owner of this cross-fit should surpervise their employees better. I tried to register 03/28/16 , the employees working that week were negligent and rude.

I've gone to this gym both years while a student at penn state. It's an older gym with older weights, so yes metal gets rusty and dirty. But it's a gym. The weights are still the same and you go to sweat. The staff is nice and always willing to answer questions. Plus for 20 dollars a month of unlimited gym time with tanning, you really can't beat that.

Average gym but be careful with these people. Verbally canceling your membership is not enough. I didn't realize this until I closely examined my debit card purchases and saw they were still billing me 3 months after I canceled. I called and tried to speak w them and in so many words told me to screw off. Couldn't believe it. If your adamant about going here make sure you cancel in writing.

The staff have no respect for their customers. Customer service is really bad. They will promise you one thing and then not keep it and ignore it. Definitely a bad place to go to the gym for and its just a waste of money. They need to go to a school to learn customer service skills and work on their attitudes.

Equipment is from the past 1/4 century. Management is shady, and unreliable. No respect towards paying customers, not worth your money, especially due to all of the trouble one is put through to cancel memberships.

Gym itself is fine, but management is absolutely HORRIBLE. Overcharged me twice, and were ridiculously arrogant on the phone, while I was trying to resolve the issue. Definitely do not trust their words, and try to avoid this gym by any means.

This is a great gym. I can't speak for the Crossfit, martial arts, or tanning aspects as I have not used these parts of the gym. But their free weight section is adequate, with three flat benches, four power racks, two deadlifting platforms, DBs that go up to 100lbs, and lots of machines. It's a small space so when it gets busy it's pretty crowded but it's easy to avoid if you go at slower times of the day.

This place has become my family. Wonderful coaches that actually care about their athletes and learn their strengths and weaknesses. The membership is not judgmental, fun, and creates a great community. I've been going here for over 2 years and look forward to waking up every morning at 5am to hit the 530am class.

They have an legitimate MMA, Boxing, and Wrestling area, a great cardio section and an excellent weight lifting area. They also offer tanning, fitness classes, martial arts training, cross fit training, and other features. If you like competition in the gym, this is a good place to go.

Joined this gym for the summer. Figured the difference in price over the campus gyms would be made up by the available tanning. If you are going here for lifting, i would suggest something else. Pretty lacking in some basic equipment and what is there is outdated/shoddy. The tanning beds would be decent if they up-kept it. The bulbs are rarely replaced. Overall, not worth the money. I will definitely be returning to the campus gyms come fall semester.
