Easily one of my favorite spots in Philly! I’ve been coming to Lumos for over two years now and still look forward to every class. Whether it’s an after-work workout or a back-to-back weekend yoga, barre or Pilates sessions, Lumos is always a happy, grounding, and energizing space for me. I love the instructors, the community, and the wonderful staff — they make every visit feel special. ✨💛

I joined back in February this year to get in shape for my wedding and drop this post covid weight/feel strong again. The Lumos community is truly magical and every class (I just celebrated 100 classes) and instructor (they are all amazing) give me such strength and confidence! Highly recommend this wonderful fitness and wellness community

I love Lumos! I became a member a few months ago to get myself moving more, and it’s proved to be a great decision. The classes are all incredible, and there’s such a variety that there’s still plenty I haven’t tried yet. But the community is really what makes it for me, it’s such a warm and welcoming place to be and I love the little details and the ways that Lumos gives back to the community as a whole.

Where would I be if I hadn’t found Lumos in Philly?
My physical and spiritual safe house for the last two years (attended 2-3x a week), Lumos has given me everything I could want in a fitness & wellness studio: a clean, welcoming, and safe space in a great, accessible location; genuinely caring and socially aware instructors who are also incredibly competent and passionate; and a community of considerate, kind, and focused people.

The only thing I could have wished for was more classes from my favorite instructors (or slightly better spacing between them), but besides that I had zero complaints. Eunmi, Alyssa, and Josie—thank you for the wonderful guidance you've given me over the past two years. Meghan and the rest of the staff—thank you for running such an amazing studio. I’m so sad to be moving far away, but I’ll definitely come back whenever I visit Philly again.

I recently started taking classes at Lumos Yoga, and I’m so glad I found this place. The space is calm, the staff are genuinely kind, and the instructors go above and beyond. Unlike other studios I’ve been to where verbal cues were the main focus, here the instructors demonstrate every posture throughout the class. It’s made a huge difference in how much I’ve learned and how confident I feel in my practice. Each class feels supportive, thoughtful, and grounding. I’m really grateful I found this place. Highly recommend!

I feel so lucky to a part of the Lumos community. Lumos has made it easy (and fun!) for me to workout and stay consistent with my routine. Lumos is an inspiring and welcoming space to practice yoga, barre, and pilates. All of the instructors are incredible and make sure everyone in class feels comfortable. If you’re looking for a place to start or expand your practice, Lumos is the place for you!!!

I've been going to Lumos for about a year now, all through and after my pregnancy, and I can't recommend it highly enough! The entire team is friendly and welcoming to people at every level of experience and fitness. Their prenatal and postpartum classes with Alyssa M and RaGina are fantastic, but all instructors have been very helpful with accommodating positions and exercises for pregnancy (as well as any medical concern or limitation). Lumos very much feels like a community, and I feel so lucky it's just around the corner!

The instructors are absolutely the best. Workouts are challenging (to say the least) but can always be modified if you're sore from the day before. I'm pushed, challenged, proud of myself and grateful for all of them!!! Do not hesitate to join. Your mind and body will thank you.

What a gem of the neighborhood and beyond! If you like teachers who welcome you by name and care about your day even before you step into your favorite barre, yoga or Pilates class this is your community. I was such a beginner to this world of bodywork having been a runner & biker. Now I can’t imagine a week without being amongst this warm & vibrant community at either their Parrish & Green Street locations! Come try a class, you’ll leave feeling centered and “at home”.

I've been a member of Lumos Barre & Yoga for the past 1.5 years, and it’s truly always the highlight of my day whenever I go. The instructors are incredibly fun and welcoming, creating an inclusive environment where people of all levels feel comfortable. Whether you're new to fitness or more experienced, you'll find a supportive community here.

As a local business, Lumos offers a wide variety of classes, from barre and yoga to sculpt, high intensity, and strength-focused sessions. Both the Green Street and Parrish Street locations are very cozy and clean and both studios are well organized. The atmosphere feels like a real community, and it's been amazing to be a part of it. I can’t recommend it enough!

I love Lumos so much, that even though I’ve moved out of the city I have still been trekking in for classes!!

I have been taking group workout classes of all sorts for more than 15 years. I am not a big yoga fan, though I’ve done my fair share of yoga, but I LOVE barre and Pilates. The barre and Pilates classes at Lumos are the best I’ve ever taken!! I truly think I’m in the best shape of my adult life from these classes even after 2 kids. So thank you Lumos !! And thank you specifically to Vanessa and Jule!!

I’ll also say that many yoga / Pilates studios put off a bit of an unwelcoming, elitist vibe and that is NOT my experience at Lumos. Everyone is so welcoming, and every class I’ve taken has a mix of ages and abilities. And the instructors provide lots of options to customize to your ability.

If you’re new to Lumos, I would recommend the monthly unlimited package - I think it’s $89 - that’ll allow you to try as many classes as you want so you can narrow down which ones you like.

Love ya Lumos !

It is so difficult to find a prenatal/postpartum gym class in Philly and if you’re looking for quality, it’s nearly possible. Lumos is by far the best workout experience I’ve had in years and is especially incredible because it’s designed for pregnant/postpartum people. The space is inclusive and feels safe. I attend the Mama’s LIIT class nearly every week and feel pushed each time while still knowing that my baby and I are safe. RaGina is AMAZING. I leave class feeling strong, welcomed, and empowered. I cannot recommend this particular class enough and am excited to continue attending classes with RaGina for years to come.

Thank you, Lumos, for providing a much needed service to the pregnant and parenting community!

I've been going to Lumos for over two years since relocating to Philly. During this time, I've started a new job and given birth to my daughter. Everything was constantly in flux, and going to Lumos once or twice a week saved my life. Weekly yoga classes with Eunmi, as well as yoga offerings by Alyssa and Chae, are my favorites. I am going to try the barre workouts too (honestly I was so in love with the yoga classes I haven't tried barre yet). Another amazing thing about Lumos are the workshops--I have especially enjoyed the soundbath meditations, inversion workshop, and recently the new year meditation session. There's always so much to learn at Lumos, and it feels like community.

Love this studio! Great and friendly instructors, challenging yet supportive classes, great environment. Class descriptions accurately describe the class (important when you’re looking for restorative yoga vs challenging flows, etc.). They’ve gotten me into barre and Pilates too!

I’m a longtime yogi but not an advanced one, and all the instructors offer great adjustments and are in tune with the mental challenges of practice as much as the physical :) can’t recommend highly enough!

On my second visit at Lumos, I was greeted by name from Meghan at the front desk and by my instructor. In the past, I’ve gone to studios where no one has bothered to learn my name even after attending for a year. This is just one example how warm and inviting Lumos Studio is.
I really like the variety of instructors, each distinctly different from each other yet all very kind and knowledgeable. I especially appreciate how every class I’ve taken (Barre, pilates and yoga) there has been a wide range of level and abilities in attendance. I have always felt comfortable yet challenged in every class.

Lumos has been a sanctuary for me coming out of 3 years of working out at home. I just completed my 100th class this week! You can find high-intensity workouts like Barre+Box with Ra'Gina or Scuplt with Taft to grounding yoga practices with Sam or Alyssa. Each and every instructor brings a different approach to the workouts, but they are always fun and inclusive for all to participate. Looking forward to the next 100 : ) Def check this place out, anyone can find a class that fits there needs!

After 3 months of consistently doing Yoga Nidra twice a week in 1-hour sessions, I have noticed the following changes. I am calmer, more at peace, happier, more productive, more creative, and significantly more aware of my inner body parts, especially my heart, and mental processes. I have learned to focus my awareness on a single point of interest in my body or mind, split the awareness on two points of interest, or focus my awareness on my entire body at once. In the vast darkness of my inner being I have learned to identify and distinguish my conscious mind, my subconscious mind, my ego, thoughts, emotions, and feelings. And I am left wondering how all these relate, interact, and arise. What are the laws by which they function? Through the practice, I have learned that not only do I have an inner eye to see these inner mental components, but I also have an inner ear to hear things from within, an inner voice to speak within, and indeed an entire inner body to experience my within.

In almost every session, Yoga Nidra helps me experience the boundary between being conscious of the physical world while listening to Jule Lane, our excellent instructor, and losing that consciousness as I enter the sleep state and fall asleep. As I enter the sleep state, I lose the connection to Jule’s voice and lose all track of time and space. I lose consciousness and no longer control it. As I awaken and regain consciousness, I reconnect with Jule’s voice, and it becomes clear that I just fell asleep and reawakened. As I awaken, I am able to regain control of my consciousness and again become aware of time and space. Just as a child slowly becomes aware of the physical world, Yoga Nidra practice is helping me become more aware of my inner non-physical world.

In these last 3 months I seem to procrastinate less and accomplish more, I have been more productive in my daily life. The instances of experiencing uncontrolled and unexpected feelings of happiness and gratefulness have increased. I seem to be getting closer to my inner source of happiness, as a result of the practice and through no deliberate effort on my part. My ability to visualize and thereby create has increased. Along with my ability to control my feelings. Yoga Nidra has helped me experience opposing feelings simultaneously, such as hot and cold, light and darkness, etc., something I had never done. This experience has helped me better control my feelings.

Overall, I enjoy this Yoga Nidra class and find it one of the best classes I have taken, I highly recommend it!

If there were time travel I’d journey back to my 18 year old self and tell me to dive head first into yoga.

I started here in April 23, in the short time I’ve been attending, approximately three times a week, I’ve experienced increased mobility, and balance. Pity I waited till I was 65.

The instructors are friendly, welcoming, professional, and accommodating. They’ve created an inviting, safe and hospitable space to teach yoga and meditation. Regardless of your age or skill level you can move at your own pace.

This is a nice studio, very small and quaint. I only had a chance to try a few yoga classes and they were good, comparable to many you will find around the city. They have a broad selection of classes, although it's important to sign up early as classes fill up quickly (can be hard to find one day of). It's a little too far from my neighborhood and the price a little too high for me to justify becoming a regular. But they have many workshops and discounted classes that I may try again should something pique my interest.

I have been going to Lumos Yoga & Barre consistently for over 18 months. The monthly membership is definitely worth it to me. There is so much diversity in the types of classes, the variety/background of teachers, the offering of workshops and I really appreciate the culture of the studio. The staff is great (as is the owner) and the space is welcoming. I first enjoyed yoga flow classes with Eunmi, who has a very unique, challenging but accessible class that always gives me a new yoga move I have never tried before. Alyssa M. and Alli have had Love Light Flow and Starlit, respectively, which are very special classes that feature lights, great music and their flows are always beautiful and well done. I really enjoy Josie's classes, I find them creative, love how she uses music too, and I always feel they have incredible balance. I even went to the Lumos retreat in September 2022 (pictures included!) and it was a fantastic time in upstate New York with Alli and Ella instructing. Speaking of, Ella, who teaches pilates opened that discipline to me and I found it very approachable. That brings me to another thing, I have loved about Lumos, the pilates and barre, which I am not as familiar with are certainly approachable for all levels, but challenge me in a great way. I find barre most difficult, but I really like the way David teaches it. I have also enjoyed barre from other instructors including Sam, Taft and others. I highly recommend this studio!

Every time I have attended a class it has been vigorous, energetic and well taught by friendly instructors. Lumos is like going into a happy place for me where everyone is nice and there to take care of themselves.

I love having this studio in the neighborhood. The instructors are great and the whole staff is friendly and welcoming. They are everything a body positive studio should be in 2022. I especially like barre classes and these do not disappoint. I love seeing a variety of instructors and times available. Stop on in to see for yourself!

Yoga was an amazing workout I learned about as an adult, which challenges our bodies and brings peace to our minds. This studio, it's staff and teachers genuinely care about each individual customer and supports their reason for joining any of the classes. The studio, the staff and the teachers bring challenging exercises, while bringing peace and calm energy to the mind and body. I’d recommend Lumos and I’ll keep going as long as I can.

I have been to many studios in my career as a yoga teacher… but I have never been to a studio quite as special as Lumos. They are exceptionally kind, mindfully inclusive, and truly care about their employees and this community. Whether you’re looking to take a fun upbeat barre class or a restorative yoga flow (my personal favorite is Starlight Flow) come give this studio I try!!!!

I can't say enough good things about Lumos! Everyone at the studio is incredibly welcoming and helps to make you feel part of the community right away. The studio is beautiful and is a great place to spend an hour of your day. As someone who has never been particularly interested in group fitness, until starting at Lumos, I have always found the classes, and the studio as a whole, to be inclusive and approachable for people of all fitness levels, with fantastic instructors who offer plenty of modifications and joyful attitudes about movement. Lumos truly offers something for everyone. I am thankful to have Lumos as part of the Spring Garden/Fairmount community, and am thankful to be a part of such a great community at Lumos!

Lumos is such a wonderful, locally, female-owned studio! Lumos will forever be my go-to fitness studio whenever I’m in town! When I walked in, I was immediately greeted by the friendly staff (I found out after class it was the owner who checked me in!) and invited into the cozy lobby with lush, pillowy benches. I loved everything about this studio, from the decor to the instructor, and I especially love how diverse the staff is, making me feel even more welcome there.

While I enjoyed my class and the instructor (who was sweet and attentive) I didn't enjoy the overall vibe of this studio. It proclaims body equality with very little actual diverse bodies in attendance. On a recent trip back to Philly I did a walk by again to see if perhaps the vibe had changed. Alas it still seems to be a predominantly thin woman run and catered to establishment. Based on the reply both below and the numerous email's I've received for deigning to have a negative opinion of this studio it doesn't surprise me one bit that the vibe continues to seem extremely hostile to anyone who doesn't fit the cookie cutter mold of yogis.

I stopped in during a visit to Philadelphia and walk through my old Fairmount neighborhood. David generously worked me into a class that was basically full. Eunmi somehow provided personal attention to a full class of friendly yogis. She seamlessly wove movement, breath work, and singing bowls into a relaxing, energizing ending to my visit. I'd practice in this lovely space for sure, and will highly recommend my Philly friends and family check Lumos out.

I first went to Lumos in 2019, but I was never very consistent with exercising and movement. I started going back to Lumos in June 2021, and the classes, instructors, and other students have been a bright spot for me during the pandemic. Working from home, I don't see people in person or move around as much as I did pre-pandemic. The early morning classes (6:30am Tues/Thurs and 7am on Wed) are an amazing way to start the day. All of the classes (barre, yoga, sculpt) and instructors have been fantastic, and I never feel like I can't do a class or that I'm not strong enough. I'm always challenged in a good way!

After a pandemic year of not moving my body at all (or, let's be honest, talking to people at all, either) I was terrified to start working out (and leaving the house) again, but I knew I had to. Fast forward four months, and I can't say enough good things about this studio and the incredible instructors! Not only do I sort of know how to move again, but the warm, inviting atmosphere is such a wonderful reminder of how great it is to be around people again, too. Stop by for any class to see what I mean!

Lumos is a lovely little studio right in the heart of Fairmount. They've created a welcoming environment; from the first time I took a class, I felt comfortable. I love that they are body positive and inclusive and that they cater to all skill levels.

Before Lumos, I had never taken a barre class but the first one I attempted was so much fun. I never thought I would look forward to workout classes but I genuinely love going to Lumos. Their instructors are friendly, kind and always provide modifications when needed. It helps that the classes are small so the instructors are able to give everyone personalized attention. I love that I can have a tougher workout or a lighter one, depending on how I'm feeling. It's great leaving a studio feeling proud of what I have accomplished instead of bad about what I'm not able to do.

If you are looking for a great place to workout in a lovely community, Lumos is the place to go!

Until I found Lumos, I really struggled to enjoy exercise or feel included in many fitness spaces as a WOC whose body doesn’t always fit neatly within mainstream standards. However, this amazing, body positive community taught me to find joy in movement and feel empowered in my own strength rather than how “toned” my body looked or how many calories I burned. They offer such a diverse array of classes taught by amazing and supportive instructors who offer modifications so that each person can get the best workout for their own body instead of meeting a generic and potentially unattainable standard. My personal favorites are yoga, barre, and sculpt. The facilities are super clean and cozy - lockers and changing rooms always made it easy to stop by right after work in the pre-pandemic days. The bathrooms are always clean and stocked with convenience items such as tampons, deodorant, dry shampoo, and even bandaids as I once discovered in my hour of need. This local, woman-owned business has everything - up to and including the cutest studio pups who visit from time to time! I truly can’t say enough great things about this studio and this community.

This studio is one of Fairmount’s greatest assets and I’m so grateful that they landed right in my neighborhood! I’ve been a member of the Lumos community since they opened almost three years ago. They offer many different types of classes so there really is something for everyone; my favorites are the barre, yoga, and Sculpt Jawn classes. The space is bright and inviting, which is also true of everyone who works there. Jess & the staff at the front desk remembered my name quickly and always greet me with a smile. I absolutely love the instructors – they’re so friendly, and know how to challenge you while also making you feel completely comfortable during a class.

Prior to Lumos opening I struggled to find (and drag myself to) workouts that I could tolerate; now I will literally jump out of bed on a cold, dark, rainy morning to get to my barre class! They have also pivoted extremely well in the past year during the pandemic, and continue to offer livestream and on-demand classes for anyone who isn’t comfortable getting back into the studio just yet (which are also perfect for anyone outside the city!). If you live in Philly or ever find yourself in the area, Lumos is absolutely worth a visit!!

I have been taking classes at Lumos since the studio opened in 2018. This is the first yoga/fitness studio where I have genuinely felt like I was part of the community - when I walk in the door, the teachers and staff remember my name and always make me feel welcomed. Lumos has always been a space that welcomes all bodies and abilities and their classes are trauma-informed, which is surprisingly rare (for me, giving consent before a teacher touches me for adjustments is really important and makes me feel more relaxed in class!). They offer a variety of different yoga, barre and hybrid classes and currently have virtual classes as well. In any class, I feel like I am able to be in tune with my body and push myself or take it easy depending on what I need, with no pressure to look a certain way. I love this studio and the teachers and am so glad I have this gem in my neighborhood!

Lumos Yoga and Barre is a neighborhood gem that is worth a visit to Fairmount to take a class. The staff is so kind and welcoming. Lumos has pivoted in the last year to continue to offer their full range of classes, including LIIT, which has been my favorite since the studio opened. I also love visiting Lumos to check out their retail options; they are thoughtfully chosen and are a perfect way to complete my self care routine.

I’ve been taking barre, yoga & HIIT classes at Lumos since they opened, and I love having them in the neighborhood! The instructors are great, everyone who works there is very welcoming, and the owners created a beautiful studio. Since COVID-19 shutdowns started, they shifted to online and outdoor classes, and it’s been awesome to be able to continue working out with them! I can’t wait until we’re all back in the studio together, or at least for it to be warm enough to exercise in the park again! Oh and they also sell some great merch - like Beyond Yoga clothes and Mishal candles :)

I’ve been going to Lumos since they opened, was thrilled to have a new local option for yoga, barre and HIIT classes. They are very welcoming to all and are great at meeting you where you are physically and mentally. I first discovered Lumos through Instagram and was really intrigued by how inclusive their presence was through social media. I was able to first attend a class this past winter and I was not disappointed. Every class I've attended is intimate and so welcoming. It is the first time in AGES I have felt truly welcome in a fitness environment. Candace and Josie are the two instructors whom I have been able to experience their classes the most and what started as convenience has quickly become loyalty. They truly uphold the overall studio atmosphere and I will move my schedule to ensure I can make it to their classes regularly! I am also beyond impressed by the studio's commitment to the health and safety of their instructors and students during this time of uncertainty. They have been quick to adapt to the new 'normal' and I appreciate that even when restrictions are lifted they have stated they will still be offering a live stream membership option. Highly recommend this studio for any yogis, fitness gurus or just anyone looking for a inclusive, empowering fitness studio.

I love Lumos! In full disclosure, I do sub teach classes at Lumos (hoping to have my own class on the schedule in the future.) But first and foremost, I am a client that has been going to Lumos since it opened its doors. I wanted to work there because I love going there as a client. Philadelphia has a plethora of fitness options, so for me, it's about how one is treated and the feeling the place evokes. Lumos works hard to be a place that truly talks the talk and walks the walk in terms of body acceptance and fitness for health, not for a number on the scale. I have taken classes with a variety of ages, body types and sizes, skin colors, gender expression, etc. and I think all of this is good thing. Lumos strives to provide high quality group fitness classes in a loving and accepting environment where one feels respected and wanted. Plus, it is owned and operated locally by women-- support the little guy (or in this case gals) by patronizing smaller independently owned businesses.
