My private lessons at Maha Yoga with Michael Cohen are beyond belief. Michael is an amazing yoga instructor on so many levels. He’s patient, poise and knowledgeable. He has helped me so much not only in my yoga practice but in my overall life/well being. His 7:30 am yoga classes I equally enjoy. Every single time I leave any of his classes I feel energetically relaxed.

What do you even say about the place where you find so much peace and happiness? Where you meet people who are so delightful, they become family? Where you can heckle your teachers? Maha is a national treasure in the greatest city in the world. My first class was with Alan as a sub. Alan offered animal facts with progressions and silliness, and I was sold. I am a devoted Alan fan. 4ever. I was fortunate to take advanced classes with Justicia even though it had been eons since I had folded myself in to such incredible pretzel shapes. Terrifyingly satisfying? YES. I love Karen's strength when she teaches us, she makes me want to be stronger, not just foldy. Haley? She is a delight. So much so that my cat is obsessed with her since I practice remotely. Jills focus on core strength and her sequences are divine. And I detest core work. But she makes it fun and enjoyable, and her classes focus on some challenging poses is amazing. Deepthi's pranayama and her soothing voice remind you that breathing is important but also a good thing to do. Desiree's upbeat uplifting classes make my heart happy. If I could, I would have relocated the whole gang down to my new home, for me personally because they are the absolute best. When in Philly, I make it a point to take as many classes with my favorite people because they bring me such joy. Bonus stickers for dvr classes for a random evening hip opener sequence or gentle class. I LOVE YOU GUYS!

Was working in Philly for just over a week and always like to try new yoga studios whenever I travel and every class I did at Maha was exceptional. You can tell they have cultivated something really special here, everyone is so friendly and helpful, the space is very calming - I wish I had a studio like this in London!

I've been coming to Maha for over a year and it's amazing! Welcoming and clean, with a great community. I've been working a lot with Alan and he's amazing, but every single teacher is excellent! Have always had good experiences there. I am so happy I found them.

I was thinking about taking some beginners yoga classes. Ever since I filled out the online form I keep getting phone calls!!! Telemarketing calls!! Really? Found a studio around the corner from me. And they don't call me at 9:30am on a Sunday

Such an amazing yoga studio. Clean space, changing rooms, bathrooms, mat storage for members, intro package deal, an excellent selection of classes suiting different needs/levels, and I’ve never had an unpleasant experience with anyone who works there. All the staff have been so welcoming and friendly, and the yoga teachers care about each person’s needs and providing accommodations/alternatives. Most days there’s usually 3 class times, and they’re spread out to fit various schedules. I’ve also been loving the mobility classes!

I have been a dedicated practitioner of yoga for over thirty years. I am a certified yoga teacher and have a solid idea of excellent teaching. Maha Yoga has many excellent teachers and I am certain you will find a teacher here that connects with you. Alan in particular is one of the best teachers that I have practiced with.

For the most part I enjoy the whole experience at Maha Yoga. The staff there is quite helpful, friendly and knowledgeable especially in areas related to Hatha Yoga stretching postures asanas alignment and overall anatomy. There are several classes to suite ones needs and or body temperaments. I find the area very clean and well kept, temperature about right . The only downside (if I may call it that ?) is sometimes 2 different classes get finished and may start around the same time leaving little room to move or get changed. All in all I am satisfied with the experience I have at Maha Yoga studio. Thank you sincerely, Namaste 🙏

Maha yoga has been a life saver for me. I feel incredibly welcomed each time I come. Justicia has created something very special here. I am an older “yogi” and attend classes regularly and plan to continue forever. I feel limber and ready to face my next few decades.

Maha is a great studio. Very alignment based. The teachers are knowledgeable, charming. Every class and workshop I’ve taken here I have walked away with a deeper perspective of my yoga practice. Which means a deeper understanding of life and how to maneuver through it.
Classes with Justicia, Kimberly, Susannah are the best.

The mats are filthy and slimey. No wipes are provided - everyone shares the same two gray old towels to smear on the mats. Instructor made remarks about my hair. Instructor also had a class that included many older adults attempt freestand headstands, without providing or instructing use of padding. Instructor has personal boundary issues and over shared info about self and others.

I love this studio. It speaks to the core principles of yoga - simplicity, unity and grace. Yoga should be accessible to all- not fancy, not exclusive. The instruction is impeccable at Maha and the studio is a neighborhood gem. Grateful to be practicing here.

Alan Foran is the best. He is an expert functional range conditioning instructor and yoga practice leader. I have been working with Alan for months, and could not be more pleased with the results. I wish that I had started this 20 years ago. Maha is great.

Great center city yoga and functional movement studio with a true Yogic vibe. Teachers focus on breath, alignment, doing what feels good in your body. Space is lovely - brick walls and lots of plants. And, it is not heated and not fitness masquerading as yoga.

Warm and welcoming, I've never felt more at home in a bodywork space. Highly recommend the recurring brand new beginner series if you want to do yoga but you're nervous of trying new things! It was a game changer for me. Cheers

I’ve been practicing at Maha since I retired almost 10 years ago. I always leave class feeling so much better both physically and mentally. If you are looking for a welcoming, alignment based yoga practice, this is the place for you no matter where you are in your yoga journey. Teachers and students are the best!

Maha is an exceptional and welcoming yoga/mobility studio. I've studied with most of the teachers by now and they've each been fantastic in their own ways. Classes provide plenty of modifications to choose from so you can find what level of stretch feels right that day. Every time I walk into the space, I appreciate the calm energy and sense of community. I highly recommend checking them out.

A wonderful place to come to for meditation, exercise and peace of mind. The teachers are amazing. Different teachers have different styles and you will always have something new to learn from each one of them. Keep in mind they are regular human beings capable of making mistakes. Have an open heart, be willing to learn and most of all, appreciate all the good things this place has to offer. I have sustained injuries and this place has done a lot of good for me and my soul. A place I will deeply miss should I have to leave again:). Thank you Maha, for treating me so lovingly and with much compassion.

I have tried many yoga studios in Philly and the surrounding areas and I truly feel like Maha is one of the best! It is a supportive, non-competitive and a very relaxed/friendly environment. I appreciate that the teachers are all knowledgeable about alignment and offer modifications for all! It is great to be able to join via livestream as well. The workshops and trainings at Maha have been so beneficial to my life and learning! Definitely recommend to anyone wanting to try out yoga or for those looking for a new studio :)

A wonderful, well-lit studio staffed with teachers who are thoughtful, engaged and informed. This has been my studio for over five years and the teachers and classes keep me coming back. It's been such a place of refuge before and through the pandemic. Really appreciate how conscientiously it is staffed and managed.

A wonderful, non-competitive, community based studio focused on alignment of poses. All of the instructors are incredibly knowledgeable and offer great cues for getting into a pose that will be most effective for you. Physical adjustments are offered with an opt-in policy, you choose if you are open to them with a card next to your mat. The space is beautiful and comfortable to practice in. They also take Covid precautions seriously and pivot when needed depending on the situation in the city. I've been a member at this studio for a few years and highly recommend!

The BEST. I’ve practiced with Justicia at Maha for years, including basic classes, advanced seminars, streaming classes (thanks covid), outdoor venues, and international trips. The studio space is beautiful and Justicia provides concise instruction, positive energy, and the right balance of effort, humility, and playfulness every time. I know I can trust her judgment in all things yoga, whether it’s just the fundamentals or a complicated sequence/pose, coping with an injury, or taking a trip into the jungle. She’ll make you feel like family from your first visit, help you safely test the limits of your comfort zone, and guide you through the physical, emotional, and spiritual elements of yoga beyond your expectations. Thank you Justicia (and the other excellent instructors at Maha) for your insight, guidance, and encouragement. You rock.

Alan is awesome! I had private sessions with Alan to work through a shoulder issue. Their approach was just what I needed to get my strength and range of motion back. They used their solid understanding of anatomy and targeted movements to create a therapeutic approach that I could learn in the studio with them and practice at home between sessions. And Alan's great sense of humor made it fun! Thank you Alan!

I thought about whether or not to write this review, especially during a time when the world could use a bit more compassion, but here I am.
I had my first class at Maha studio this past Sunday and I was speechless afterwards. Before I get into my issue, I would like to say that I’ve been practicing vinyasa for 5 years, I’m YTT certified, and I’m deep in my ashtanga practice. Basically, I’m not brand new to yoga, so I occasionally pick up on things that others might miss.
I’d also like to say that the studio was nice and that the people were very friendly.
Back to the class. Che was the teacher and she was very friendly but her class felt off. She talked entirely too much. There was absolutely no “flow” in her practice. It felt very disjointed. We missed postures when switching sides. Which is only human, but it happened often.
She didn’t give great instruction about which side of the body we were on, so everyone in the class was all over the place. Which she was totally ok with. She seemed confused which made us confused.
The class was also live-streamed for a virtual session and that was a bit distracting, but only because she kept pointing it out. Otherwise it wouldn’t have been an Issue.
We were there for 90 min but I didn’t feel like we did anything. It wasn’t a gentle or restorative class, it was all-levels vinyasa.
I’m going to try another instructor because the studio is nice. Again, Che was very kind. No problem with her as a human, but wanted to provide an honest critique of her class as a newbie. Maybe her students are use to her style and I’m the outlier. She might be the wrong teacher for me and that could be the case.
But I felt strong enough about my energy during the class, that I had to write this review.

I would highly recommend Maha yoga for anyone who is seeking a more informed practice. I’ve been able to incorporate so many techniques I have learned from an amazing staff to manage stress/tension which has helped to improve relaxation and self awareness! I appreciate how the studio is equipped with props for a more comfortable practice. As for communication, they’re very responsive and helpful with answering all questions. The team is very supportive and welcoming of people from all walks of life and allow you to go at your speed/pace/level. Once again, I would highly recommend this studio for your practice!

didn't even go to a class... i got the $35 pass and when inside was greeted by the receptionist --- who had the stomach flu and was throwing up in the bathroom. he was then telling people he had a stomach bug and spreading his germs around the studio. will not be returning -- some people could have health conditions that this is very unsafe for. and i wish i could get my money back.

At Maha, I have been taking basic, open level, and advanced classes with talented, experienced teachers who are full of information and like to have fun. Justicia, Shawn (owners & teachers) and their maha group of instuctors are known all by yogis all over the area to be some of the best at what they do...great yoga with focus on proper alignment. The studio in Center City a beautiful, calming charm with handmade furniture by Shawn, giving it an extra special homey feeling. The bamboo yoga floor is naturally lit, surrounded by windows with a maha city view. The Ardmore studio is a little smaller and still fills to capacity with yogis wanting to share their practice with incredible instructors, their knowledge of therapeutics, and themed yoga sequences. Maha means great. It is.

Maha is a great place for yoga in Center City! Instructors are awesome, well educated and focused on a great experience. Less 'competitive' than other studios. They give you the space to be in your own zone and offer instruction just right for your mood at that moment. The perfect blend of Zen and physicality.
