There was a misunderstanding about my account and the manager Tyler did a phenomenal job getting a solution and making sure it was corrected and that I was contacted immediately. So grateful to him! Super kind and understanding during this tough predicament!

Doubling rates with a few new pieces of equipment but continued poor cleanliness, bubbled mats, peeling leather covers, broken equipment taking weeks to months to get fixed, and water or bathrooms being unusable at times. Definitely not great, membership canceled for that price.

Good gym. 2 things. Bearing and hand grips on some of the equipment needs to be replaced. Hand grips are badly worn and the bearings are never greased therefore the bearing life shortens creating a uncomfortable exercise.

100% not worth $50 a month. I don't remember ever getting notified the rate was raised that much, nothing in my emails to indicate I missed that, I would've dropped my membership way earlier if I knew.

Unreasonable price increase for amenities that no one asked for. Raising everyone's membership prices to line up the owners pocket is a big red flag 🚩

Update: 7 months later . I've joined a new gym in hellertown 24/7 sauna, spa and I pay less and in the best shape of my life. No regrets not paying Maxx anymore just to get the minimum.

The gym itself is fine, but the WiFi and customer service are terrible. They advertise free WiFi with your membership, but it doesn't work and service is extremely spotty. One staff member flat-out said he wasn’t even sure if it was on. Another time, two different employees told me they’ve brought it up to management multiple times, but that management ignores them. I asked for a management contact, emailed them three times over the course of a month, and got zero response. If you're going to advertise WiFi, at least make sure it works, or be honest that it doesn’t. The lack of follow-up really leaves a bad taste in my mouth and I would definitely not recommend this gym to anyone else.

I drive truck over the road so I stop in to see if I could work out and they said sure we can give you a free workout pass for today and ask me for my license and then another guy came to the front desk and said it would be $20 dollars for the pass so I said never mind because doesn’t sound like a free workout pass. Free is free not paying for a free pass workout pass is free maybe because I did not look like a gym fanatic or maybe because I was black who knows they must just thought I was dumb or something

I had to train in the Bethlehem, PA area for about nine weeks for my new job. It was very important to me that I keep my gym routine up, so I was able to join this gym for a decent price. I always looked forward to coming here after my duties of the day, as the staff was always very kind and I never had to wait too long for any machines. It was also a nice bonus to have access to red light therapy, massage, chairs, or tanning. Oh, and I definitely took advantage of the smoothies with protein in them on my way out a few times. Overall, fantastic gym! I would highly recommend going there!

Terrible gym so they scam you of course if you try to cancel. They lie about you being cancelled then keep charging you. Even if you get a new card they get the new card information and charge you. It’s easier to just block them from your bank or sue them for fraud if you can.

Sadly, this gym raised its rates with promises of new and updated equipment, as well as added recovery amenities. Unfortunately, the only part of this promise they delivered on was the increase in cost. The facility remains poorly maintained, with large amounts of dust accumulating in the rafters and dangerous holes in the floor being inadequately addressed with a single cone. Equipment is frequently broken and left unrepaired for extended periods.

For the price being charged, the gym fails to meet basic expectations for cleanliness, safety, and functionality. Staff refuses to walk through for basic clean up and enforcing common gym etiquette. The Center Valley area is ready for a competitor to step in and offer a superior fitness experience. Until corporate actually starts to care enough to deliver on their promises, I cannot recommend this gym.

Absolute scam artists. I can't speak for the quality of the gym as this isn't the location that I had a membership to. The location I had a membership with closed down and my membership was automatically continued at this one. I have never once had a membership at this location, but I still got hit with a $50 a month membership fee. Fortunately I've now canceled and will never be returning to a Maxx fitness. I'm sure somewhere in the contract I signed when I signed up it included something about the membership transferring. But that is ridiculous and predatory. If I could rate lower than one star I would.

Definitely do not recommend going here. They will take your money. I look at my card statement today and I saw I was charged $45 this month. When I called and asked why they said they are getting all the new equipment and that’s why their prices are being raised and I informed the guy that I broke my tailbone about four months ago. He informed me if that I bring in a doctors note I will get four months free. I informed him that it was four months ago and I wouldn’t be able to get a doctors note now and then when I asked if I could cancel my membership, he says no I have to come in person and cancel. What pisses me off the most is when I was not informed at all by not getting emails or text messages that the prices are going up.

Prices keep going up ($50 p/mo now) and you don't see any value for your money. Half of TV monitors not working. Equipment not always well-maintained. The "theater" is constantly down. No hand sanitizers anywhere. Maxx raises prices without even telling members. I'm hard-pressed to say anything positive about this facility other than this Saucon Valley location is a little less worse than their 4th Street facility. That one is the true definition of a dump. Btw, you might see a reply to this review from their owner expressing concern on these replies. Don't believe it. He can care less about improving their fitness centers. BUT I'm just waiting for a nicer fitness center to open up in my area so I can ditch this place! Take my advice: go elsewhere!

Their Bethlehem location closed down so I called to cancel my membership. They told me to go to another location to cancel in person. I explained to the person that I’m not able to do that because I’m visually impaired and don’t drive. Their response was, “Oh boy” and hung up on me. Sure enough, they continued to charge my credit card.
With technology these days, there is no reason to have to cancel a gym membership in person. And there’s definitely no reason to have zero customer service and hang up on someone.

Absolutely disgusting. The machines, floors and every surface of this gym is filthy. There is not been soap in the ladies restroom on the right side for over 6 weeks. Aside from that, I tried to downgrade my membership and was told that the person working didn’t know how to but would have it adjusted. Never happened so I was charged again the next month. Spoke to someone in person and was told I would be downgraded and the following month’s payment would be skipped for the inconvenience. Next month, billed again. Spoke to a “manager” who told me they had no proof of what I was told and that they dont skip payments? Asked to cancelled an apple to another manager who told me if I didn’t cancel my next payment would be skipped. I cancelled my membership today and was told I’d still have to pay next month. Ridiculous. STAY AWAY FROM THIS GYM.

I’ve been a member since 2018 and really want to continue here but it’s becoming harder and harder with the amount of disrepair. Two holes in the floor of the free room. Torn up floor at the front desk. Both have been problems for more than 6 months. It's difficult to stomach the surprise extra charges sporadically throughout the year when they are not addressing safety concerns. And now they are painting the walls. Band aid can’t cover a broken bone..

It's really, really dirty. I've been coming here for around 5 years and I've just been watching the layers of filth accumulate on the machines, every corner of every hard surface, and in the locker room bathroom. The whole place should be deep cleaned at least a couple times a year but clearly the owner doesn't care. I keep going here because it's close to my house but the Quakertown location is way nicer.

Their corporate policies surrounding cancellations are very predatory. Despite being able to sign their membership contract online, you must either show up in person or write a handwritten letter to their branch saying that you would like to cancel your membership. Further, they will still charge you for the month during which your letter arrives so be sure to get those letters in the mail quick! (This also comes with a 58$ cancellation fee🥰🥰.)

Other than that, their equipment is unclean and the men’s bathroom is always filthy.

I‘ve never written a poor review before, but felt like this was necessary. It’s a really poor excuse of a business.

I would not recommend this facility so avoid, if you can for the following reasons:
-Equipment remains broken for months at a time, including a water fountain that has been actively leaking for at least one month with signs around it.
-The sanitizing spray bottles don't work properly and the hand sanitizer sitting right at the front desk is empty even with people working there all the time (???)
-Some equipment like the grips of machines are literally falling apart. Simple things like ordering more clips and weight pins is too difficult, but yet the monthly membership price was raised 6 months ago.
-A big complaint I have was my experience with the personal training director over promising prior to purchase of package and then very much under delivering services rendered (and apparently there's a history of this scenario). I brought my concerns to his attention, and there was little concern or interest on his part during that conversation. I also feel like as a gym, you should be hiring certified personal trainers, if for nothing else, liability purposes, but guess not.
Again, I would not recommend and if they cared, they could do so much better for their members, but they continue to show that they do not.

Places has slowly been getting worse and worse. First time coming back since April: 3 of 10 machines have grips broken or frame loose I used and 2/3 treadmills wouldn’t turn on, layers of dust on pipes/vents overhead. Water fountain/filler has been broken leaking water onto the floor for over a month now, and the floor is completely ruined from disrepair, all the paper towel dispensers ripped off walls, and 1/2 the spray bottles there used to be, no drinks to purchase as the fridge is empty. Nice to see the same sink faucets that were broken in April are still broken. Doesn’t seem like the owner cares about fixing anything even with rates being raised 50% couldn’t keep the time on the main clock right so they removed it also. Unfortunately this gym really has gone downhill

WARNING DO NOT GIVE THIS GYM YOUR BANKING INFO
*this has all been reported to the police* so if you have a similar experience - please let me know so I can add it to my police report. Per the manager “Alec” he gets complaints like this “all the time”.

This gym will steal from you, without any remorse or urgency to address the situation. DO NOT GIVE THESE PEOPLE YOUR BANKING INFO! $640 was stolen from my bank account the day before Thanksgiving - November 22, 2023. It was obviously very intentional. 4 transactions of $160 each was withdrawn from my personal bank account without any receipt or communication on why they felt they could take this money from me. They are preying on people both not checking their bank accounts and traveling for the holidays.

This organization as a whole is set up to make sure people are robbed and have no way of contacting anyone useful to get their money back in a timely manner. I have had issues in the past trying to cancel a service that I was tricked into and never used with this gym so I knew calling the gym would amount to nothing. (I have proof that service was cancelled in August of 2021) If you have an issue, you must go in and deal with their nonchalant attitude that they stole a felony level worth of money from you.

Went into the saucon valley gym at 11AM on a Thursday. Was met by the manager “Alec” who was everything BUT helpful on refunding the $640 that was stolen from me a month away from Christmas (NBD). I was told a mysterious person named “marcus” who was not present that day (although a half drank bottle of water was at his/her desk) would have information on why I was robbed of over $500. “Alec” was unable to assist AND was unable to provide me anyone’s contact information to settle this issue immediately. He stated his “boss” the regional manager and the owner of the gym were in Connecticut doing “I don’t know what”. (AKA: Living off people’s stolen money)

I made it clear during my visit that my expectation was to be refunded immediately the same day I came into the gym. “Alec” the manager explained he could not provide me anyone in management or the gym owners contact information. He assured me he would make sure “Marcus” would call me back the same day to get the bank fraud sorted out. I waited all day and zero correspondence from anyone at this gym was received.

If anyone knows the owner’s contact information that “alec” could not provide, please share. Thank you for reading my experience and I hope it doesn’t happen to you or your family.

Decent gym with a good community, a little slow on repairs (especially for the men's weight scale that had been out of commission for about half a year) but nothing too bad. HOWEVER the employees do not make it known to you that if you cancel your subscription you will be charged an extra month the NEXT month. Cancelling is also difficult, having to be in person and pay a fee to cancel if it's under a year. In general, these guys are trying to weasel any kind of money out of you that they can, so stick to other places especially now the price has gone up to $20 (they bumped up the prices without making customers aware).

Gym was nice when it opened. Has since gone to total bottom of valley gyms. Tanning beds half don't work. Half don't have bulbs and god forbid you look down haven't been cleaned in years.

In last year and still now:

Stair steppers have been in state of disrepair for over a year.

Weight machines take months to be repaired.

Almost all machines have layers of dust buildup around and in them.

No cleaning staff has ever been present and the desk staff and managetd are more interested in their phones friends and how fast they can clock out after their shift.

Locker rooms are only clean and stocked with paper towels if there is caring staff on. Which isnt a term ive used since pre pandemic from managers down. T

he revolving door of staff and managers at Maxx Fitness Gyms is staggering. And one can see why the place is as bad as it is.

Only plus is its never busy as most people have now left for all of the better run gyms in the valley.

Had hopes for it........its a shame it seems on verge of closure daily since predemic.

The best part is the comically cold scripted auto responses to reviews from a bot or someone sounding like one that "this is not normal" and we will do better."

It is fully normal. This facililty is barely operating.

All these other negative reviews are fully accurate of the business over a period of years. And id argue many past members were so disgusted they just knew a review isnt even worth their time. They are just done.

Its a full business pattern of the state of the gym and the ownership management team. Nothing has changed even with the wild revolving door of managers and staffing at all facilities.

The only positive is we all stayed members long enough to gather more information and data to use them as case studies in how to run a fully failing business with my consulting firm.

I paid for my staff to become members so they could see all aspects of a failed customer facing health oriented business live and in the flesh.

Best on-boarding and training i could give my new staff.

Cons: 25% of the equipment is either in dire need of repairs or just plain ol' broken; cinema (a cool feature) has been down for weeks; several equipment tv's don't work; EVEN THE ONLY HAND SANITIZER IN THE GYM IS BROKEN!; staff are properly trained to offer the excuse that parts are on their way...though months go by; facility is often dirty (though sad to say that their Allentown facility is worse - downright filthy half the times. You're afraid to touch anything so as to not catch a disease); I better stop.

It's a shame bc the facilities in both Saucon Valley & Allentown are corporate – owned, so you think they'd like to show off these gyms as flagship for potential franchises. Actually, the franchise in Quakertown is in much better condition. Anyway, I for one would be willing to pay a little more for a fitness center better maintained. I certainly hope that Max fitness management reads these reviews and not offer flimsy excuses like 'thank you for your comments… We are always striving to improve quality for our customers….' C'mon Maxx--less talk & more action!

Membership is affordable. Showers and lockerooms available. No towel service, no sauna or steam. Must bring your own toiletries (shampoo, soap, hairdryer, etc.). Trainers are knowledgeable. You can get a good workout in no matter what your interest is.

Y'all need to go thru the lockers in the men's room. There's gotta be wet clothing sitting in one of them lockers and its stinking up the whole bathroom. Like to the point I can't even use the bathroom it's nauseating. C'mon guys. Gyms are cash cows and Saucon Valley is an upper class area y'all gotta do better than this. If you run this joint and don't care about the gym and hate your own life then find something else to do with your life. People pay good money to come to the gym and I'd honestly be embarrassed if I ran this place. I've worked at another gym that was bigger than this one, charged memevers less and was still better maintained. If y'all need some assistance on how to better this place hmu I'd be glad to help.

I really like this gym. But they keep it at 10000 degrees. It’s so uncomfortable, they need to turn up the AC. It’s kinda miserable.

I’m addition. The classroom music during the dance class hour(s) is ABSURDLY loud. There is no excuse for it. There are never more than 10 members in the class. It’s way too loud and I know I’m not the only one that feels this way. It’s extremely rude and obnoxious.

Don't ever join this gym unless you plan to keep your membership for the rest of your life. Cancelling this membership has been the single most difficult thing I have ever tried to do in my life. They tack on so many extra fees and don't tell you about it until years later (and the fees have wracked up considerably)

Many pieces of equipment out of order. Some exercise equipment lack adjustment knobs and it is very difficult if not impossible to make adjustments. The desk tells us the equipment is leased and they are awaiting the leasing company to fix it. I guess they have to wait four or five month for them to come. Time for a new leasing company. Club is always clean.

Gym was fine when I lived here. They shut down during the pandemic, when I lost my job and was forced to move across the country so I couldn't cancel my membership in person. I mailed a letter in, it's been over two years since I moved and I found out I've been paying this entire time. Predatory business practices are destroying gyms and this is just sad. Maxx has no way for me to cancel from where I live, in Texas, and my only hope is to send yet another letter. This should be completely illegal.

Similar experience as Kevin Rodriguez, membership was cancelled almost two years ago through the pandemic and started receiving daily texts a few months ago that my account was past due. After repeatedly responding to their texts to stop messaging me, and being told that they would stop, I am still receiving these texts. I guess the next step is to get some legal help to make it stop.

1. I never received a t-shirt at signup.
2. My information was never put into the system so it took me a month just to be able to use the app.
3. Was never taken on a tour of the gym.
4. Was told two different things as far as how many kids are allowed at the kids club under my membership.
5. I was told when signing up that i was a month to month, not a year contract. I called to cancel and they said I have to pay a fee since I’m cancelling before my 1 year mark bc I signed a 1 year contract. So shady and they are stealing my money.

I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone.

Have been training here for about 5 years. Staff is pleasant, but not intrusive. Club is reasonably clean and management is always helpful.

Personal training is adequate for beginners and there are plenty of trainers available. Classes are varied and room is spacious.

Members are mostly courteous. Most do not wear masks, but it is easy enough to social distance.

I put my membership on "pause" early in the pandemic and they continued to charge me a monthly fee and an enhancement fee when I was still supposed to be "paused." This was also after I'd fulfilled my one year commitment. I have gotten no response after reaching out to MAXX online multiple times and the only Facebook location that is responsive is Quakertown, who could not help me because it was not my "home gym." I have proof that I sent certified mail cancelling my membership after realizing the COVID risks were not waning soon and that this club had poor follow through on carrying out proper precautions, but they had my card info so they just went ahead and charged away anyway. I am still trying to get in touch with someone to recover the "enhancement" fee that was charged when my membership was on "pause" and I had no club access.

Update again 12/29/21. Don't know why you ppl bother responding when the account was canceled and you're still charging me $280.00 under a different name. REALLY ? Now you're called ABC Fitness ? What kind of scam are you guys running ? And for me to go in and get copies of contracts and memberships to tell me nothing is on file and tell me you can't print nothing out because the excuse is your having issues with the computer like last time!? Just give me my money back ! Update 4 days later today 12/13/21 I was charged another $280.00. This time it doesn't say from max fitness but instead ABC Fitness. SURPRISE, let us charge you $1,120.00 for xmas. Just want to thank Maxx Fitness for ruining the Holidays for us. What is wrong with this picture? Please, please, please people make sure they explain everything, i mean everything to you before joining. I should of read the reviews before joining. My wife and I joined the gym back in june of this year. Signed up for the basic and platinum plans. And also signed up for classes for once a week. Sat down and talked to the trainer about the classes. He told us that it was for six months for $280.00.Which I was okay with. Found out it was $280.00 every month because when the second month came i was charged again for $280.00. Unfortunately I went to the gym to cancel our memberships and classes on the 3rd month because 1) that wasn't what I agreed to. And 2) there was too much going on life to even take time to use the gym. To some that may not be an excuse to quit but life happens and it seems like this gym doesnt care as long as they're getting paid some how. I went and explained our situation to the girl at the front desk to cancel the membership. All she asked was for my email and i gave it to her and i assumed it was canceled because my email was associated to the membership. As far as the classes go the trainer said that it was on the contract about the payments which he told me was $280.00 for six months not $280.00 a month for six months. I told him I never received a contract. He then said that he would email it to me which I said go ahead so I can read it. Mind you he asked for my email like 6 times because apparently my email wasn't in the system. Apparently training classes and gym memberships are dealt separately. Now because of all this I'm negative over $800.00 dollars in my bank account. A charge for $560.00 and another for $280.00. Out of nowhere after no charges being made in the past two months thinking that they canceled everything. Please make sure that they clarify what they're saying.

I was a member prior to the pandemic and thought that I had cancelled my membership. A year and a half later they are now calling me telling me I owe them $800. The fact that I haven’t even stepped foot in the gym since early 2020 and they keep billing me is very disappointing. I would not sign up for a membership with this establishment. Their contract is bogus and a straight up rip off. Had I known bills were piling up I would have gone in and did whatever it took to cancel the membership. I had zero communication from them until now and they are trying to rip me off for hundreds of dollars. Make sure you’re careful if you sign up for this place….

Been going here 5-6 times a week for 4-5 years. It's a great value gym. Not the cleanest or the best equipment but they have a little of everything. Management seems to come and go. From when I started, there are zero of the same homies working at the gym which is disappointing. Again, theres something for everyone here. By far the worst con is the turn around on broken equipment.

Zero fulfilled promises, poor COVID compliance/safety, and unauthorized billing

After asking on Facebook on 7/6/20 how to “freeze” my membership due to the pandemic, I sent a letter to the club (certified mail, as instructed by MAXX) on 8/1/2020. They later called me and said they would put my membership on hold for 3 months but that the pause would not start until 30 days out. I told them about the conversation I had on Facebook earlier and how no 30 day notice was mentioned. “Mike” said they would ask the manager to consider adjusting it to start the membership freeze for August instead of September and call me back. They never called me back. I was still charged for August even though the freeze was apparently effective immediately. I noticed that I was also charged on November 1st even though my membership should still have been on pause as of that date.

I ended up going in to the gym to cancel because I have had no luck teaching anyone via their online email feature and the person on Facebook could not help with the continued billing issues after the “freeze.” I told the person in-club about that and she did not even offer to try to help with the unauthorized charges. I felt even less safe about going to the gym with the recent uptick in COVID cases but I don’t want to keep going back and forth and getting mischarged for a membership I couldn’t safely use during the pandemic. The 30 days notice to pause also makes no sense given that we weren’t given 30 days notice of the clubs re-opening.

They are not safe about mask-wearing or COVID safety at all, either. Don’t go here if you care about your health or your wallet. They will charge you incorrectly and not even bother trying to fix it.

Convenient location, more spacious then the Allentown location and offers most amenities you typically see in other fitness centers.

I would suggest mirrors in the training room and the training space off to the side of the main floor area. Mirrors help with keeping the correct form and posture when lifting weights. Currently mirrors are only in the front of the gym and in the aerobic room.

Did not require masks the whole time. The employees who are supposed to have masks on at all times did not. They didn't even know about the policy on their website that said if not wearing a mask 14' distance needs to be kept. Even beyond that 6' social distancing was not kept nor enforced. I wore my mask the whole time since I live in NYC & I've been exercising with a mask since July. To drink water I held my breath & although I was close to needing to use my inhaler that was not something I was going to do because no one was wearing a mask. I brought this up to the women at the front desk and she could have cared less. Mind you it was around Thanksgiving when cases are rising & theirs a chance everything could get shut down again.
