I read some of the 1-star reviews and they're mostly people crying about how they didn't feel welcome, felt out of place, couldn't do the workout. I've been a member for about a year and the results speak for themselves. Getting stronger is wild and OpenBox will get you there.

Absolutely recommend this gym! I’m new to CrossFit. I live in Jersey. Came here while visiting family and needed a place to workout where I would feel comfortable, safe and supported. They cared about my form and made sure I was doing things properly. I’m most definitely coming back when I’m in town visiting family! This place is great!

I've just joined this gym after 7+ years with City Fitness, and I only wish I hadn't waited so long! The value is fantastic and so far, everyone has been so welcoming - coaches and other members. I was a little intimidated having never done CrossFit, but the Colidr classes have been great for me! Some exercises I'm familiar with, but some new ones as well! The workouts are challenging, but I love that the coaches will kindly give substitutions, tips to correct form, and set goals for cardio to help keep me on track. (Shout out to Jean and Crossley!! They are fantastic!)
Joining a new gym can be scary, but I can truly say that I am really enjoying this one. It's welcoming, accommodating, everyone is helpful, and just really good energy.

Coaches are incredibly nice!!! I am pretty bad at workout compared to others. Whenever I struggle with workout, they modify workout for me or come and explain again how to do. Also, when I am doing something wrong, coaches come to me and teach me again 😅😅. In addition, they always welcome me even though I can't come to gym frequently because of work schedule. Overall, I like this gym a lot!!! I highly suggest this gym if you want to try something new workout experience!!

I recently had a back injury during my workout in class and was out for three weeks. Today when I returned to class coach Trey saw me and he immediately came over to check on me and see how my back was doing. He also told me to let him know if anything hurt or if I needed modifications to any movements. Trey went over all the movements for each station in great detail and I left feeling like my best self! I can’t say enough good things about OBA but this place has really changed my life and I love all of the coaches!

OBA is a great CrossFit gym. I am an older athlete and the coaches take the time to help me scale the workouts when needed. Also, they are very good at demonstrating how to do the various movements for maximum effectiveness. I feel like every workout is making a big difference in my muscle development, flexibility, strength training, cardio and stamina. Also, the workouts have enough variety that it never gets old!

This fitness center is amazing and I love it there.. Big thanks to my coach Emily for being such a huge part of my fitness journey. She’s been there since the beginning, and honestly, I wouldn’t be back in the gym without her always trying to have classes with her. I joined OpenBox a few months ago and have loved my experience so far. I go to the Colidr classes and find that they are a great mix of cardio and strength. The coaches I've had (Mel, Emily, Jean, Ben) have all been fantastic! They make sure people are doing movements the right way to prevent injury and that people are using appropriate weight to push themselves. So glad I found this gym!

I did an OBA class (drop-in) while visiting Philadelphia in January. I read some comments here that they're not "drop-in friendly", but that's not my experience at all!
Signing up was very easy. At the reception I was asked what my fitness level (ok, regular gym goer), and experience with cross fit was (limited, I'm fairly new to cross fit). In general, I felt very well taken care of. They definitely make sure you perform all the exercises correctly - the coaches kept an eye on my form all the time.
The gym itself is nice. Lots of space and good equipment. Clean.
If I had to find something to complain about it's that they have no showers, but that was a minor issue for me at the time.

From my first class at OBA I knew I entered one of the greatest gyms in Philly! The coach, Joey, was immediately welcoming and made me feel comfortable (so much so that I joined on the spot!). For the next 2 years, my classes at OBA remained the highlight of my days. Every coach I met was knowledgeable, motivating, and supportive of all their member’s goals. This coaches at this gym are professional and know their stuff. The gym is clean, the equipment is in good shape and the classes are very challenging. Also, I appreciate that they have a bike rack inside. One thing to note: this is one of the stronger gyms I've been to, so expect WODs that are a little more challenging than the average.

I have been at OBA for 9 months already, and it’s honestly the only gym I have been able to maintain long term. I’ve never been much of an athlete, and the COLIDR have been the perfect mix of intense but fun. Get ready for results! Plus every single coach is great, and the OBA community is very welcoming. I cannot say enough great things about this gym. I came here with 0 experience working out. The coaches met me where I was. Over time (4 ish years) I’ve improved in every area, and the coaches continue to meet me where I am. The coaches are super helpful and the classes are ALWAYS FUN. Ive been coming for almost a year. Started 2 times a week with the Colidr class which is more HIIT style/ and dumbbells no barbells. Over 6 months I enjoyed it so much I increased to 4-5 times a week. The work outs are very scalable especially the Colidr class if you’re a beginner or out of shape like I was. Recently started going to the “cross fit” classes and coaches have all been helpful in making sure I use a barbell safely and correctly.
Now it’s my favorite part of the day. The coaches are all great. I’ve become a healthier person, made so many new friends and now am living a much better life then I was a year ago. 10/10 recommend.

I am confused by all of the positive reviews. I tried this place out as a potential replacement for my current training program. The front staff were very friendly and helpful and the gym is clean. But I went to two classes and I was very disappointed with the coaches. They offered NO help and appeared hostile whenever I asked clarifying questions. The training session is also not great, it is max reps of five exercises including an intense burn for 3-4 rounds. There is music and a weird countdown clock that announces 15-30 seconds of rest between sets. Don’t expect any variance or whole body workout it’s basically box jumps (oh and the lowest box height is 20 inches) and burpees. Neither of the coaches seemed particularly knowledgeable about training and the set up of the classes creates a lot of opportunities for injury. No coach checked on my form, they didn’t ask me if I had any previous injuries or issues, they didn’t offer any modifications. This is NOT a place for beginners or even intermediate level gym people. There is no training or real help and the coaches that I had especially the main coach Kory were not friendly. The gym felt like a place for people who were already in the CrossFit program (even though I did the Colidor workout) who already know each other. Don’t expect any gym amenities like towels. Don’t expect help or encouragement from the coaches, don’t expect a welcoming atmosphere. I don’t think they like drop ins but they are missing an opportunity to get more clients because if they were more helpful I would have definitely signed up as a regular member.

Joined OpenBox in the Summer to challenge myself and change up my usual routine. The coaches are all awesome and I find the environment inclusive. Joined OBA at end of 2021 after not being in a consistent weight training program for some time: started with Colidr (dumbbell/HIIT focus) and have transitioned to traditional CrossFit classes. If I could, I would give this place 10 stars. Everything from the facility to the workouts and coaches is amazing. From the moment you step foot in the door, you're instantly welcomed and treated like an old friend. The knowledge that the coaches not only have, but will pass onto you will give you everything you need to achieve your fitness goals. So no matter what your fitness level and goals are, or whatever box you check in life, OBA is the place for all to achieve all.

I joined OBA back in early 2019, completely new to the CrossFit fitness world. I knew I needed some structure to help me get back in shape and OBA provided just that and much more. The coaches are all awesome, down to earth people who are extremely knowledgeable about all things fitness. From Day 1, I never felt that I was alone in my journey to becoming a better athlete. The coaches, especially Kory, Melody, and Joey, helped make sure that I was doing things safely and correctly while also pushing me to continue to become better each day. I have since moved away from the area, but cannot speak enough to how great both the gym and the community of people that attend the gym are. Without my time here, I would not have renewed my passion for fitness and gotten to where I am today. Highly recommend this place for anyone who has a passion for fitness (or wants to) as you'll really enjoy the workouts and sense of community.

Place is great. Best equipment I’ve ever seen at a cross fit gym. Instructors explain each workout very clearly and work hard to make sure each athlete is performing workouts with proper form and safely. As a beginner in CrossFit I highly recommend OBA At any level of experience

Open box Athletics has a consistent goodness about it. Day after day and from the owners to the coaches to the members working out next to you. This gym took everything this last year threw at it and not only didn’t quit but took care of each other throughout.
If you are like I was ...starting with almost no level of exercise besides walking the dog...don’t think you need to get better before you come. You are more than welcome here and the coaches will help you scale movements to safely challenge you. I learned to show up and trust the process. Along the way I’ve become measurably stronger and found myself belonging to something I’m grateful for every day. I’m hoping you will too.

OpenBox Athletics is amazing gym and community. I have been doing CrossFit here for over two years and absolutely love it; the progress I've made here is outstanding. The coaches are extremely knowledgeable, helpful and experienced and spend time working with you on your goals. The programming is tough yet scalable for all levels and focuses on a range of movements in weightlifting, Olympic lifting, conditioning/cardio and gymnastics. I also love Emily Smith's Olympic weightlifting class on Sundays that focuses on form for the more technical lifts. This gym also offers boot camp and yoga as well which is an added bonus :)
The best part of OBA is the community - it's fun and welcoming and everyone is supportive of each other's goals , which makes this more than just a gym. I highly recommend this gym to all!!

This gym provides great programming and supportive and knowledgeable coaches. I am new to this style of fitness and every class I get helpful tips to be able to exercise in a safe and efficient manner. As a nurse I was looking to find a gym that I felt comfortable with who took COVID precautions seriously and I’ve never felt unsafe at any time during classes. Every interaction with staff that I have had has been pleasant and professional!

This place is awesome if you're looking for a friendly environment and great people to be around this is definitely the spot. I've done CrossFit before but I had to take a break but when I got back into it I was dealing with some health issues and my confidence was completely shot I was even thinking about giving up but people like Coach Joey always kept pushing me and Coach Melody always worked with me to make sure I stay in the fight. I even managed to get one of my best friends to join this box so if anybody is looking for a place to call home look no further this is it.

Before joining CrossFit I had the impression that it wasn’t for me and that it was intimidating. Openbox definitely proved me wrong. I absolutely love this gym. The trainers and the other members really make an effort to get to know one another and it makes going even more enjoyable. The trainers really care about your growth and make sure that your form is perfect. I always recommend friends to this gym and will keep doing that.

I have belonged here for 2 years and have had nothing but a great experience. The staff is amazing and accommodating, they're always pushing you to do the best that you can. What makes Openbox and Kite and Key a great place is its excellent ownership and management as their clients care is a focal point in their business. In their coaching, they bring many aspects of physiology, nutrition and fitness but they have great care for their community. I've been to many athletics based gyms and this is top notch.

Amazing gym family!!! People of all shapes, sizes, backgrounds, ability, etc come together for intense (but fun) workouts and community events. Great coaches and everyone helps one another. Highly recommend for beginners to advanced crossfitters. They also offer amazing yoga, boot camp, and other classes so there is something for everyone. Brand new equipment and facilities a plus!

I absolutely love the Studio at Openbox! They offer a huge variety of classes, which is great as I enjoy both yoga and HIIT style exercising. The Studio has helped strengthen and tone my postpartum body. I have enjoyed every instructor I've had here. Openbox is an awesome and affordable place to get in shape and stay that way!
