The gym itself is in desperate need of updating a lot of their equipment. A lot of the equipment has rips in the backing and seats and the treadmills have plugs for iPods (that's how old they are). At my last training appointment there was a leak in the roof and there was water all over the floor. My first trainer was nice enough, but I felt like I was just a run of the mill client. I was hoping my trainer would show me how to breath effectively and help me along and explain why and what we are doing (etc). It's just like "here you go" and gave me barbells and just "do squats" after showing me once how to do them. Again, my trainer was nice enough, I just didn't feel like I got the training I was expecting for the price. For $50 more a month, I'm found a trainer with their own private gym, measured everything about my body (to show progress every month) and was way more motivating. Plus, the exercises that were suggested that I do at home were seriously long and difficult (for my level). If I could do all of this at home, why do I need a personal trainer? My second trainer (the first one left to go back to school) was even worse. I would get on some equipment and he would not even instruct me on how many reps he was expecting, etc. I would have to ask every time. Just not the experience I was expecting. Just a note, they only had 6 and 12 month agreements and I requested 3 months (no way am I getting locked in to a 6 month and finding out it's not a good program). They allowed me to sign up for 3 months.

Let me start by saying, if I were to rate my personal trainer, Kobe, I would give him 5 stars, however the business itself absolutely deserves zero stars. I am not one to normally write reviews but wanted to warn anyone who is considering this business to stay away. I signed a 12 month contract in order to receive a discounted rate at each session (its like 4 dollars a session I believe) I asked the trainer who was signing me up if I could cancel anytime and he said yes but failed to mention I would need to pay 35% of what was left from my contract in order to get out of the contract which was over 1000 dollars, this is also not listed in the contract I signed. I assumed I would just pay the difference in the cost of the sessions if I did need to cancel as this would seem to make more sense and be more reasonable. I needed to get out because my schedule at work unexpectedly changed and I could no longer make sessions. I tried to explain my situation and the "customer service" representative asked if I ever read a contract and that the 35% fee was a courtesy as they should make me pay the full amount. She said that the business cannot be held responsible for me not comprehending the contract. The contract felt sneaky and non transparent to me and when I told her that,, she immediately said " let me stop you right there, it is not because I wrote it." I had 4 other people read it who also agreed that the wording was non transparent, she uses the word draft instead of payment and when I looked up the term, a bank "draft", It isn't even a debit card payment , it's something along the lines of a money order, It is a learning experience for me to read contracts more closely and to not trust anyone on their word. On top of everything. I didn't even use their nutrition services they offered because I have a degree in nutrition. This place needs to get with the times, stop offering contracts or at least be more open with customers ahead of time. If I was told this ahead of time, I never would've signed up and they knew that so they tricked me. I hope this helps someone avoid falling into the same trap. Also just found out crunch is almost 60 dollars cheaper per month (even with the discount they gave me for signing a 12 month contract) WITHOUT a contract and they also do body scans every 2 weeks. Hoping to have a much more positive experience there!

When I approached the owner of New York Fitness asking for a suggestion for a personal trainer to help me get on track with a disciplined fitness routine, he immediately said that meeting with Nate/PFT would be a good fit for me, and he was so right!! Nate developed a plan for upper body, lower body and core routines taking into account my age, osteo arthritis, and a knee replacement in my future. With each visit, he always first asks how my low back and knees are feeling and adjusts the routines if need be. He has helped me to be more disciplined as I do exercises at home and by also following a WW diet plan, I have reached my 25 lb weight loss goal.
I am stronger now and even willing to do those darn planks when he asks me! Thank you Nate for caring!

This is my first time to train, and I’m glad I made the investment. Although the trainers are quite a bit younger, they seem to know what I need. I didn’t realize how much it was actually helping me, until I spent a week helping take care of my grandson who weighs about 20 lbs. I had taken care of him a few months earlier when he was lighter, and it was so much easier this time. I had only been training a little over a month. I want to retain muscle as I age, and am now sold on the importance of this.

Training with Nate gives me the accountability that can be difficult to find when working out alone. He has increased my strength through steady and consistent goal setting. He has also helped me rehab from shoulder and knee injuries sustained from my weekend warrior activities! Nate absolutely works to find the right routine for you. Absolutely recommend.
