I liked this gym and was never sure about the negative reviews. It is just a gym. It is a shame that they are closing this location (just like the other ones) and just keeping the society hill one which is far from the center city. I wish they would have one location in Center City. Now the society hill club is going to be extremely packed (more than what it usually is) and it’s going to be a hassle trying to workout there(if people stay).

My debit card was stolen yesterday afternoon right out of my locker (be sure to fully tumble your combination lock!) and it was used already this morning. I actually saw the guy in front of my locker when I returned to the men’s lockers after my workout but didn’t realize anything had been taken.
While talking to the staff, they relayed story after story of theft at that facility. Management knows it’s happening and should place someone to watch the locker rooms.
Otherwise I love using this gym — but leave your stuff at home!

Great gym, but management changed, and especially after hours staff is unfriendly if not rude and really inappropriate for a facility of that level, especially some staff lady who seems to think patrons are her employees lol. As a result, gym is deserted most of the time, vs. the Society Hill branch which is always packed. The only consistently friendly and helpful staff member is Afyifa the young housekeeping lady.

Exercise classes by professional instructors at convenient times in a clean environment and greeted by a friendly, polite group of people who check me in upon entering. Club is stocked with clean, working equipment. Worth the monthly dues. Would highly recommend.

I join this club on 03/10/2022 no contract no hidden fees I was told cancel whenever pay a prorated fee for March and full $49.99 for April . I cancel my membership 04/27/2022 on until today 06/16/2022 this club is still trying to charge my card, every month they it my card at least twice i call every time it happen and they continue doing it no professionalism I call on 06/09/2022 an the manager who state her name was Cat Festa told problem was solve, and today 06/16/2022 they try to charge my card again. I am so tired I didn't want to cancel my card but I am going to have to do it ,my card state they block them.

This is probably one of the few gyms i simply will not return to. Cleanliness was a big issue here, the locker room rugs are perfect fungal breeding grounds, the equipment typically is in disrepair and almost never cleaned or maintained. The weights are never returned to their rack and the temperature is always too chilly for a good warmed up workout.
How i know this gym is in it’s final stages is the pleasant staff i use to see everyday when i first started going here gave up and lost confidence in the brand and left one by one and not long after i stopped going they tried to call me back to influence and welcome me back basically in a desperate manner of which insinuates everything about how bad things have fallen apart in their brand here. Also nobody likes annoying ‘Trainers’ who see you as a cash cow. If you would like a more savage assessment than this there is plenty more i could speak upon. But i simply refuse to support their brand anymore and have moved on to much better gyms that provide better experience and take care of their responsibilities.

Liked club until they reduced weekend hours, closing at 2PM both days. Used to be 4 - are they in such bad financial shape that keeping the lights on for another couple hours with a few staff on is going to bankrupt them? If not, this speaks volumes about their consideration for their members. And they make sure five minutes before closing that they flash the lights and round up all lingering members and show them the door. Inquired and was told I could use the Society Hill club, a 35 minute walk away. Not helpful. Will likely be looking for another gym.

Every single person who works at this gym is fantastic. The little things: they ALWAYS say hello when I check in, they ALWAYS say goodbye when I leave, they always politely remind people about the mask policy without being dramatic. Great place to get the Omicron variant just in time for the holiday season. Lack of vaccination proof is a fun russian roulette of "will I get it today here?" Their mask wearing policy is VERY lax and that's either a great thing or a terrible thing, depending on who you voted for in the 2020 election. Which makes sense since even their head trainer barely wears his mask. They also have an odd amount of bugs in the shower stalls which is a fun experience.

As others have mentioned, I canceled membership, paid the silly cancellation fee, yet am still getting charged. Avoid this predatory business.

EDIT AND UPDATE: I cancelled my membership in September and was told September would be the last month I pay for. Apparently this is not the case, as the club not only requires a ten dollar 'cancellation fee' (what does this even pay for...some software to remove you from a database?), but now I am being told by a manager that the club requires a 45 day notice. The policies seem random, almost improvised to get as much money from you as possible. Avoid this organization at all costs.

Our family has been long time members of PSC at the former Radnor location. Employees are always attentive, the gym is super clean and has great equipment. We are exploring our options now that various PSC locations are reopening (post the Covid closures). I submitted a request online and was immediately contacted by the Market Street gym--had a great conversation with Ryan who was super helpful in answering all of my questions. Their management failed to document my cancellation and they continued to charge my card up through March 2020. EVEN THOUGHT I moved in January they still attempted to charge my card and tell me I had to send a certified letter or come in to cancel. Covid hit and gyms were shut down. Gyms open backed up and it's now September 2020 and the manager Ryan Curry is STILL attempting to charge my card and telling me to clear up past billing. Again, I MOVED IN JANUARY. I joined this gym after taking a job in center city. Before covid, I realized I wasn't using it much and cancelled. Then after covid they reinstituted my membership without my consent and began charging me again. I called four times and each time the woman told me that only a manager could help me and that she would call me back, but nobody did. So I went to the gym and filled out the cancellation paperwork. They charged me an additional cancellation fee and refused to refund the month. Then the next month, they charged me yet again! The whole place is mismanaged and has frankly abusive billing practices.

This company sucks. I worked with Ed to make payments on my remaining account and he told me if I made two payments he would clear my account. He did not clear my account after I made the payments and instead sent it to collections for a balance of 5 dollars! Now collections is calling me asking me for 220 dollars. Thanks, Ed. The equipment is not current and often broken, the gym feels dirty and the restrooms are disgusting. For months there was no water station in the gym because it was broken, the shower drains are always clogged, and the staff is not friendly. There's a brand new Planet Fitness that has great machines, is clean and is cheaper. Go there, don't waste your time with PSC.

It's a nice gym with good equipment and amenities so long as you go outside of 4 - 7 PM. Can't really speak to cancellation costs, monthly fees etc. that many have brought up, but the only thing keeping this from being a 5-star review is the showers.

I've been going to this PSC location for about 6 months now and can say that it's a good week if you've taken more than 2 showers with even lukewarm water. They've tried fixing it several times, but it still has not worked, so most of us who shower at this location must do so in cold water 3-4 days per week. Some may say that cold showers can burn fat and build character, but I'd just prefer to do that with the weights and other equipment PSC has to offer.

Hidden Fee's & Bad Practices!!! Cancelled my membership on the 3rd, was charged $44.99 without my knowledge, charged an additional $10 on the 10th (cancellation fee) then charged an annual fee of $69.99 on the 22nd. For the price, it’s a good value. Cardio machines generally kept in good condition, plenty of free weights, good selection of classes with decent instructors, regularly cleaned, and the staff is polite and friendly. In summertime the cooling can be wonky, sometimes repairs take a long time to finish, but these are minor flaws easily taken in stride at this price point.

I've been charged two month, I have been trying to cancel my account for 2 months, I had to called my credit card company to put a block on the merchant, but somehow they still managed to charge me. I called the facility and the manager is never available, worst experience ever, do not give your credit card information to this company. i moved to Los Angeles and now in order to cancel they want me to send a paper letter stating why I'm cancelling, they refused to do it over the phone, and the manager dodges my calls. Judging from the other reviews my experience is not different from many others. The lack of accessibility and professionalism is outstanding here. After two months of trying to cancel my membership due to relocation, I was charged during the process and given the run around each time I attempted to call the facility to speak with a manager.

Only coming to this gym as mine closed and PSC offered a discounted rate. Really wanted to like the classes at lunchtime but find that the teachers are consistently late to teach and are down right rude. If you get the impression they are making fun of you believe me THEY ARE! I was taking an intense class last week and found myself getting nauseas. I stepped off to the side to sit down and was made fun of by the teacher. This is in front of everyone while this "teacher" was on a mic.

I just started going here this week and i already love it. Keisha from the front desk is very pleasant and friendly to talk to, she took good care of my incoming to this gym being i have a fitness membership program. I like that compared to other gyms i have been to this place really thinks about you before you even think about you ahead of time. They provide towels for showering use and the showers all have shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. They even have both a steam room and a sauna. The layout is perfect with cardio in a particular area, upper body in another and lower body down stairs. I managed to get a really exhausting cardio in and i was elated about it. I just like the fact that i can carry less with me into the city with me on my day trip to the gym then work. I highly recommend this place if you work in the city now and want to get the workout in within an efficient time of the day. If you want to build and trim this is the spot to be at for your goals.

UPDATE 1/19- Just found out there is a big class action lawsuit being filed against PSCs ownership company (Town Sports International) due to illegal billing practices.

Long story short, this place is a billing nightmare. Contracts are shady and will have you owing way more than you think you are signed up for. Corporate office is terrible.
In fairness, the local business manager (Edward) tried to be helpful but he was over ruled at a higher level so we lost nearly $1000 even after they admitted fault. Take your money elsewhere.

Terrible gym. The locker rooms are filthy and the facilities are constantly broken for months at a time. I have not been able to cancel my membership despite several in-person requests, phone calls and e-mails to the sales manager. I was told that there was a $29.95 cancellation fee and that it would take 30-45 days to process so they can charge me for another billing cycle. I still have not received any confirmation that my cancellation is being processed or that they will stop billing my credit card. Stay away from this place.

We know that most gyms are shady, as far as billing, but this place takes the cake. I moved out of the area in December, but of course there was nobody available to process the cancellation, which they still have not done, seven months later. I have an invoice from them with 26 payment requests returned, with $15 charges for each one, not surprising because I had to cancel the credit card so that they would stop billing me. Speaking to their representative, they will remove some "as a courtesy" but cannot remove the full amount until I can produce a cancellation acceptance, which they generate. Save yourself the headache. The front desk is barely manned. The machines are routinely broken, turnover is horrifying, and management is predatory.

Poor management and maintenance. Management is unresponsive to complaints. The sauna is falling apart, half the treadmills are broken in one way or another, half the ellipticals are broken, the push sled is broken, the water fountain in the men's restroom has been broken for a year. This gym is the WORST. Finally when things were obviously never going to be fixed, after years, I cancelled my membership and jee guess what? They're still charging me, double this month, on the card I reported stolen to stop them. How they managed to charge my stolen card is beyond me but I disputed the charge. Now I have to go through that s**t.

I would not suggest this place to anyone! I wanted to cancel my membership. I spoke to the Accounts person Burr on 1st December. She seemed to take down my details and promised to cancel my membership and that i would get an email regarding the cancellation from her Manager. I did not receive any such email till date. Since i am out of Philadelphia i tried calling at their office and whenever i call them, the staff takes down my contact and says their manager would return my call. But that never really happened. HONESTLY, i have never seen such dishonesty before! And what kind of a server or manager do they have that they are not able to process my request since the last 20 days!!! This is nothing but sheer dishonesty and a way to extract money unnecessarily!

Joined about a month ago. Great classes (I mainly go to cycling). Very nice instructors and staff. Haven't had any issues that I read on other reviews. If that changes, I'll make sure to update review.

This Gym is a SCAM... PLEASE STAY AWAY... I signed up for a membership for 30 dollars a month that lets you bring a friend every time that you go if you like ( even the same friend) which is an upgrade from your standard membership that is 20 dollars a month.. 2 months after I sign up , i bring a friend and they say oh, we no longer have that bring your friend option because the manager claims they where loosing money...I say cool, well since you guys no longer have the original offer that I purchased can I down grade to the 20 dollar fee. He's says no. If you want to down grade it would cost you 49 dollars... So in other words I have to pay for a service that you dont provide and if i want to down grade I will be charged... This is horrible business!!! DON'T COME HERE PLEASE!!

I have been attending since January 2017! I love this facility. It's very clean and has a large selection of equipment! The staff are VERY friendly, and I always have a wonderful workout. The trainers are EXCEPTIONAL, esp Vivian and David Ward! Come see for yourself!!! NO REGRETS!

Rude desk staff, broken equipment and machines broken all over the place for a month at a time or more. Jason I think his name is, the shaved head stocky iipersonal trainer is the rudest inconsiderate staff in the place. And please shut up, we don't need to hear your loud obnoxious every word with your client while training. The only good thing about this gym is that it is convenient after work. It is small and crowded in the evening and due to all the broken crap everywhere you have to wait to use anything.

This is the absolute worst sports club in Philadelphia. The rodin place AND market street location's have dumbass staff who just grin when they can't answer your questions. On top of that, their computer systems are down EVERY SINGLE TIME YOU WANT TO MAKE A CHANGE. I wanted to change my membership, the clerk laughed and said "yeahh..so our systems are down i don't know what to do." I have tried to change my membership for months, and every 2 months there is a new general manager. Obviously something isn't right. On top of that, when I signed up, the sales representative gave me false rates, in which the general manager contacted me saying "they didn't provide the correct info" and "they didn't know what they are talking about". Just don't go here, you'll regret it in 2 months, and it will be impossible to try to close your membership.

This has to be the worst gym in the city! A staff memeber told me over the phone I should cancel my membership with this gym. I switched over to the Rodin Place location this month however it looks like poor customer service is a trend at all of their locations! I miss LA FITNESS, and wish they would return to Center City!

When I think of how Natalie Belford conducted herself...I feel horrified, scared and humiliated. I went to PSC to workout on March 31, 2016. I hoped to get some rejuvenating exercise, then go home and be more productive at my desk. I encountered Natalie, couldn't workout, and left PSC feeling very threatened. I was afraid that Natalie might make up a lie about me to justify her behavior. I was also afraid she would persuade other PSC employees to join her or lie about what really happened. I'm not a piece of garbage. People like me are not second class citizens. I don't think we deserve to be thrown out. Does PSC screen folks before hiring? Does PSC have any training/retention standards?
