So grateful for this gym, the owner/my trainer, & the community. Doing a combination of individual & group sessions, as well as nutrition coaching, has been a game changer for me. Gary has designed a specific program for me to help me meet my goals, yet take into account where I am at as someone getting back into working out after some time off. Love the environment, how supportive all the trainers & other members are, how ridiculously clean & immaculate they keep the gym, and feeling part of the community 🫶🫶

I am chunky, sad, and have worked in healthcare for 30 years, and even I feel like a part of this group. Am I looking better in a swimsuit? Who cares? Can I bench you? Maybe, if you’re a toddler. Is my blood pressure way back down? Yes. Does working out weirdly cheer me up? It does! Who knew? Gary gives me all of the info I need to be healthier, and he’s not responsible for my ice cream wants.
This is the place for anyone who’s too embarrassed to go to a gym. In all honesty, if I had realized this was a Crossfit gym, I would never have gone. They make it welcoming and friendly and they keep the grunting to a minimum, but not the sweating. You should totally come to a class. Except Sean’s, because the divorced dad songs. OMG, I forgot you should make Sean show you how he jumps on like 12 stacked boxes. Like angels.

Change your story is the motto at PPF. I started with PPF in January 2023 and they did exactly that! Zachary has been a stellar trainer! In addition to being super knowledgeable about training the body, Zachary is caring, committed, and flexible to cater to requests for varying fitness goals. He routinely checks in, gives helpful real-time feedback, and prioritizes his client’s needs. Knowledge, professionalism and community = Philly Personal Fitness (PPF). I can’t say enough good things about my personal trainer, Taylor, and the rest of the team at PPF. Taylor has helped me get stronger and do things I didn’t think I’d ever be able to do. I’ve also taken the group classes and I so value the smaller size compared to bigger group fitness you may get elsewhere, as the trainers are better able to help with form and motivation. PPF is beyond a gym. It’s a place you’re actively guided to achieve your fitness goals and are warmly welcomed into a community. If you do private training, the coaches curate personalized programs for you to have a measured approach to achieving your goals vs. doing random workouts at the gym and seeing little to no progress. I train with Gary and he’s helped me make the improvements I’ve never been able to make on my own. I’m more fit, flexible, and strong than I was during my time spent as a college athlete. The group classes are equally as targeted and measured and the coaches collaborate to make sure the weekly class programs contribute to getting stronger, faster, and more fit overall. The risk of injury is low because the coaches take the time, even in group classes, to make sure that your form is correct and that movements are scaled when they need to be. The coaches offer knowledge beyond how to do the workouts; they offer advice and programs on nutrition, recovery tips, and all other information you might need to have a successful fitness journey. I couldn’t recommend PPF enough.

Most welcoming gym I have ever been to! From the moment you walk in you are greeted by staff as well as gym members. This gym really feels like you are joining a community. The coaches are extremely knowledgeable and the community they have built is also quick to jump in and support you or help you out with a new exercise or move. Music and vibes are always excellent, gyms always clean and tidy, you’ll even find there’s often hot coffee in the mornings. High fives and encouragement is a regular part of class. Easily the best gym in Philly hands down.

Without sounding like a massive Hallmark card this place has really changed my life.
I had major health issues that caused me to be in a coma for 2 weeks and had to relearn how to walk in March 2023, and thought there’s no way I could ever workout or even pick my self off the ground again… literally. So the thought of someone like “CrossFit?” I thought it would be too hard, to intimidating and a battle of too much testosterone.
However, it was not a battle of testosterone, it wasn’t about being the best in your class that day, but this place wants me to be the best version of myself, and brings joy of community, strength, and knowing that I can pick myself up off the ground and continue being better than I ever thought I could be.
Welcoming to all and inscribing a work ethic that I never thought I could achieve again and the results are paying off in so many ways.

Teresa is simply the best trainer ever hands down!!!! Stop looking for another trainer and see Teresa right now. I am dead serious. She is sooo knowledgable about functional fitness and nutrition and will help you to achieve whatever your goals are. I wanted to build muscle tone and she had me looking AMAZING!!! She is sooo encouraging and is the warmest, kindest person to work with and just in general and is so truly passionate about fitness and her clients!! She also places a big emphasis on form for the exercises which made me so happy because when I came to her I was looking for someone that could help me in this area. I also came to her with some back and shoulder issues and it was so thoughtful of her to include some warm ups/exercises that would help my overall posture and make it easier for me when lifting.
I saw Teresa about twice a week for the past three months and I had to leave her and the gym only because I am moving and it was super sad because she is just so amazing. Hire Teresa and don’t look back!!

I cannot say enough good things about this place! The owners, coaches, and other gym patrons are all the warmest, nicest, most inclusive, and encouraging people I have ever met. The gym itself is a very clean facility that offers all the equipment you could possibly need. There is a wide variety of ways you can pursue your fitness goals here: 1 on 1 Physical Training or Physical Therapy; a standard gym membership where you come in and do your own workouts; and group fitness classes with specific focuses like Yoga, Breathwork, Strength oriented core lifts, Endurance training, or Crossfit. The gym culture is focused on inclusivity, community, and functional fitness. They always make it a point to offer different scaling options of each exercise that is prescribed in that day’s group fitness workout and even encourage you to do a whole different exercise that activates the same muscles if what was prescribed isn’t in your bag of tricks. At least once a month they offer a free exercise class open to the whole fishtown community and also about once a month they organize social events like a happy hour so that all the gym goers can hangout together and become better acquainted.
Their giant neon “Change your story” sign isn’t just for show, it is a methodology they have helped many of their clients achieve, myself included. I began Physical Therapy here when they first opened up in January 2023 after I experienced a string of consecutive sports injuries over the past 3 years. When I first started, I could barely perform normal basic lifts (like a squat) with weights that were well under what I used to do for warm ups before my injuries. A few short months of 1 on 1 sessions with co-owner Sean Tonnesen(who has a doctorate in Physical Therapy) and I had regained enough strength and confidence to join in on the group fitness classes. This is a goal I did not think I would be able to accomplish until a year or longer after beginning physical therapy. Now here I am less than a year from getting started, I have been joining in group fitness classes for months and am quickly getting closer to being able to move like I did before my injuries and am close to lifting the weights I was able to before my injuries. I promise if you give this place a shot you will not be disappointed.

I’ve only been training with Gary for 3 months now and have already made significant progress, surpassing my personal goals. I’ve been strength training on my own for 10 years and was looking for an extra boost. I’ve never seen this much definition and improvement in strength in such a short amount of time. I’m lifting heavier than ever before and feeling more confident in and out of the gym. Gary has the right balance of pushing your limits but being patient and encouraging. I genuinely look forward to every session.
Finally, on the nutrition side, I’ve learned how to find greater balance without ever feeling like I can’t continue to be social and enjoy life.

Philly Personal Fitness (PPF) is a team of highly competent and motivated professionals at a very welcoming place. I’m lucky to get to know and training with everyone there. Nowadays, the word “being personal” is often just a market phrase, but in the PPF is the real deal.
Sean’s forte is his ability to inspire and motivate you by example. I’m a 57-year-old with no prior experience with any fitness/workout program. To think that I’d enjoy the progressive process in developing my physical strength came as a surprise, and a very good one.
Sean brings together his physical therapy expertise to a fitness program that combines a variety of exercises, workouts. He also quickly adjusts the program in real time to provide an effective and safe training sessions. He has a deep understanding of the human physiology and what would work for each individual. He keeps meticulous notes on every session which forms the basis for an objective assessment of the individual’s progress and future planning. In addition, Sean provides insights on nutrition goals and ideas to improve it in a non-strict diet manner.
Since the beginning, Sean believed and pushed me till I feel comfortable to push myself further. All of this together with a lot of fun, is the highlight of my weekly “mens sana in corpore sano” practice, including early Sunday morning!
Without hesitation I would recommend PPF to anyone looking for a real personal trainer

If you are looking to get healthier and stronger, please go see the trainers at Philly Personal Fitness. My husband and I do couples training with Coach Gary and it is the highlight of our week. We’ve been PPF members for about a year and it’s been the best investment.
My fitness goals have changed since training with Coach Gary and he’s been able to pivot and work with me throughout it all. When I started, I wanted to get stronger and lose some fat. We worked on my form, dialed in my nutrition, and in a matter of weeks I was already seeing great progress and setting PRs.
Then I got pregnant and my focus shifted to maintaining my strength and health. Coach Gary was great at modifying workouts and benchmarks as my body changed and I’m happy to say I’ve had a great pregnancy thus far.
I’m looking forward to working with Coach Gary postpartum and setting new goals and new PRs!

I started working with Gary in March of 2021 and haven't looked back. Where do I start? I’ve been working with PPF since September 2020 and to say they “changed my story” is an understatement. My relationship with food, how I see the number on the scale, and how to work with injuries or limitations is all different today.
If you’re looking for quality individualized coaching I can’t recommend PPF enough. These guys care about what they do and want to see their clients succeed. Total class acts.
On a more personal note, I owe PPF a debt of gratitude. I had a pretty significant injury in Sept. 2021 and I am fortunate I had Gary & Sean in my corner. They knew exactly what I wanted, adapted the programming, and kept me on track without skipping a session.
Less than six months after my injury, we’re doing things I couldn’t do before the injury. Gary and Sean didn’t just help me recover, they helped me get better. We actually rang the PR bell 3x this week.
