I have meant to write a review for a long time but I’m always worried my words will be too weird and not good enough — but that’s ridiculous because PFP is my safe place to be weird and try anything. So here it goes!
PFP is the most welcoming, inclusive gym space. It’s a safe place to unmask and be brave, surrounded by kind and encouraging people. The staff at PFP are all amazing, smart and enthusiastic and celebrate alongside the clients for every success and adventure. Especially Gina, she is the best!
What do you want to get better at? Running? Olympic lifting? Boxing? Cycling? Doing one pull up? There’s a coach - or three - for that here. Been lifting for decades? You’ll fit right in. Never touched a barbell? You won’t be alone. And everyone in between. Everyone.

The women’s strength training course with Katie has been so great! It’s really nice to have a judgment free zone to learn, and Katie is wonderful - down to earth, fun, and a great teacher. She is also mindful of injuries/issues, and providing alternatives to ensure safety, which is so helpful being a few months postpartum. Would definitely recommend!

Great experience with my trainer Ashaunti and PFP in general! Have only done the women’s strength group classes so far, and really enjoyed them. I was basically coming in with zero experience and was nervous about feeling intimidated, but Ashaunti made everything feel accessible and made sure I felt safe with movements, while also making it feel fun and pushing me to try harder. All in all, a quality experience and affordable too. Highly recommend!

I was nervous about returning to a barbell gym after several years of dealing with serious health issues, but PFP has been so welcoming. The trainers are approachable and meet you at your level. Shana is amazing at explaining form and movement. The vibes in Ashaunti's classes are unmatched. The gym is clean and well-equipped. Overall, I'm really glad I tried this place.

I started PFP about 6 weeks ago and am really enjoying the classes. I was spinning my wheels at a local $25 a month gym but finally came to the conclusion that I needed structure, inspiration, variety and most of all: a challenge! That’s what I’ve found at PFP. GREAT group of coaches and trainers that really pay attention to you and help with your form and movements during class, which is very helpful as I have NEVER done this type of training before. I look forward to getting some personal training for weightlifting to be able to safely participate in the weightlifting classes. If you can work it into your budget, definitely opt for the recovery monthly membership, I love the sauna and compression and use them almost daily especially on my off days. Shower facilities and massage therapists available to book too!

I love that the gym is always clean, friendly, and well-equipped. It's also great that the gym is flexible enough to let members join a class even if they're running late. Overall, I think the gym does an excellent job of making everyone feel welcome and comfortable. I have definitely noticed improvement in my strength and cardio.

I have struggled with constant injury during sports and working out due to some hypermobility issues. I came to PFP to get some guidance on how to strengthen my muscles to support my joints and found Gina Moss, who has a background in physical therapy. She even has experience with hypermobility, as she has some of the same issues I do! Since coming here, I have loved the guidance and support I get from Gina, who always encourages me to listen to my body and stay consistent without pushing myself to injury. I feel stronger and more capable to live my daily life.
The gym atmosphere is awesome too! The staff is friendly and helpful, and I’ve never had any issues with other patrons like at some gyms. If you’re looking for a gym without creeps and with plenty of people to help you meet your goals, PFP is the place!

Updated to include review of the massage therapy at PFP: I've been seeing Tiffany for massage therapy for the past several months and she has been amazing. I generally overdo it during the weeks of training/running and hobble in to see Tiffany and walk out in a much better state. Incredibly professional, knowledgeable and a fantastic massage. Similar to the gym, the staff welcoming and laid back. Highly recommend PFP for massage therapy as well as the strength training.
Prior review of PFP small group training:
I was looking for a gym to get back on track with my fitness journey after moving to Pittsburgh. Started going to the PFP class in the mornings and working with their massage therapist. The trainers are fantastic, accessible and incredibly knowledgeable. The vibes at the gym are friendly and inviting, there is no pretension or intimidation. Can’t recommend PFP high enough.

Although I only recently started at PFP, I feel like I've already found my fitness home. The trainers here are fun, experts in their fields, and compassionate; I have tried a lot of different gyms over the years and haven't found anywhere that fits me quite like PFP.
I have training sessions with Andrew two (soon to be three) times a week, and his programs are tailored and thoughtful. Previous injuries and a sedentary schedule have made it difficult for me to move in certain ways, and Andrew is always happy to help me adapt a movement or make sure that I am moving in a way that furthers my strength goals. His guidance and encouragement have been of great help in making my fitness journey fulfilling; his one-step-at-a-time direction is helping me build confidence as well as enjoy my sessions.
Highly recommend coming in and trying out PFP; no matter where you are in your fitness journey, you'll find a home here.

I can't say enough good things about this gym. Definitely a community feel. A true judgment-free zone. The trainers are so well versed in exercise physiology and technique and they share their knowledge with you, very specific knowledge at that. I feel super encouraged by the trainers. There is a plentitude of options depending on your preferences, goals and budget (classes, 1:1, independent work). Focus is really on health, not necessarily aesthetics, which I very much appreciate. I always feel welcome, and findt membership at PFP to be a superb value.

I have been working out at the Pittsburgh Fitness Project since August 2018. It is a great gym with abundant space, especially for those who prefer to exercise with free weights and using their body weight.
Additionally, the gym offers various classes with trainers, who are also available for private training, from workouts concentrating on different parts of the body to yoga sessions. The trainers are professional and extremely knowledgeable in their field. My trainers, first Sándor and then Wes, have helped me build muscle and physically become more toned.
The Pittsburgh Fitness Project is also in a convenient location with available parking, which is a big plus in Pittsburgh.

Great environment! Supportive and encouraging staff/team.
I have been a member of PFP since 2017 and although my experience is mostly related to the barbell club, I believe the culture I have witnessed applies to the entire gym. My favorite thing about the gym's culture is its focus on inclusivity. The membership is a wide-range of folks from different cultures, which I think add a richness to the experience.
The coaches are highly supportive and take care with writing workout programming that is appropriate for each client or class. Even if someone is not interested in attending group sessions/classes, with inclusivity as a focus, I have witnessed some of the open-gym members still becoming "part of the family."
I recommend PFP to anyone interested in putting more focus on their health. With a solid inclusive environment already in place, take comfort in that all shapes/cultures/experience-levels are welcome.

PFP is awesome. If you have aesthetic goals they will certainly help you meet them, but that isn't really the focus of most of the people that work out here. When I got out of college I was really starting to get into olympic weightlifting. I was trying to self teach myself, but I just kept coming up short. While I continued to struggle, one of my buddies told me about PFP, and Tom Duer. I went there for a barbell assessment, and from that second on I knew this was the gym for me. I signed up on the spot and it has been nothing but positive results and good vibes ever since. Tom, and the rest of his trainers are excellent coaches who work very well with the clients and write programs that are designed for YOU. Not the cookie cutter average you see in most gyms. They also provide a great array of group classes that would put most commercial gym classes to shame. The atmosphere at the gym is encouraging, upbeat, and positive.. ALWAYS. The coaches, athletes, and clients there always try to pull the most out of you so that you can achieve the best version of yourself. It feels like we’re all one big family every time I’m there. Ever since I’ve signed up there, my clean and jerk has increased by 20kg (and climbing), my snatch by 30kg (and climbing), and my back and front squat by almost 50kg. And thanks to these guys, this December I’ll be competing in my first weightlifting competition! Its really amazing what a good atmosphere and even better coaches can do for you. I HIGHLY recommend this gym to any aspiring Olympic weightlifter, bodybuilder, or even someone who just wants to get in shape, move better, and build a healthier self inside and out. I promise you won’t be disappointed!

PFP is the perfect embodiment of personalized wellness. It is a place where you can work on fitness goals that are important to you, not the person next to you. I have been coming to PFP for over three years, and this is the first place where I have felt challenged and seen results — challenged in ways like learning how to kettlebell swing or lift a barbell and results in actual muscle definition! The moment you walk through the doors, you feel welcomed, inspired, and ready to go. It is a fun and encouraging environment. Members want everyone to succeed, not just trainers. And if you are unsure about a movement, a trainer is there to show you how to do it, without any sort of shame or embarrassment attached. It doesn't matter your fitness level; PFP is the place to find your best potential, and oh yeah, have fun along the way. I LOVE IT!

This gym has excellent equipment and plenty of space. It is never too crowded and the staff is courteous and professional.
I do not use the classes provided, and it has been perfect for my needs. Whether you are interested in training or not, this is a good spot for anyone looking to workout in a clean, well built gym for a very reasonable rate.

I love this place! My personal trainer, Jake, is amazing! He has helped me so much with my running form and I am now pain free when I run!! The rest of the staff is also very knowledgeable and very welcoming. I love that they use science backed methods to help you achieve your goals. They also have a great class schedule to suit everyones needs.
I highly recommend PFP to anyone looking for an amazing place to workout!

I've been with Tom for several years now as he's gone from strength to strength. His philosophy of training and wellness and vision for PFP are spot-on, as is the culture he's managed to grow there. They train people of all sizes and fitness levels, right up to Rather Serious weightlifters, and nobody is ever made to feel unwelcome or intimidated. Many big companies have bold claims about what they provide in terms of inclusive atmosphere, but fall far short. PFP actually provides.
Every trainer really knows their stuff and how to get you to achieve what you didn't think you could. My wife and I are very happy members.

I had the most wonderful massage by Claudia! I cannot recommend her enough to everyone interested in body work. Not only is she so friendly, kind, and personable, but she also is just super knowledgable and skillful in her work. Go pay her a visit immediately if not sooner :)

I avoided this place for a long time because of the price tag. It's definitely more expensive than your typical chain gyms, but I'm so happy I finally made the switch. Great staff, nice facility, and fun classes. (I never took a fitness class in my life before joining this place; after going to a few at PFP, I liked them so much I bought an unlimited pass.) If you're hesitating to check it out like I did, I can't emphasize this enough: give it a try. PFP is worth every penny.

I have taken classes and also personal training sessions here for a little over a year. I started out pretty weak and broken down both mentally and physically. I never felt one minute of judgement at any time. Just lots of support and respect for my commitment to improve my health.
There are people from all walks of life at every point in their fitness journey. Older (like me), younger, skinny, overweight, and everyone I’ve encountered (staff and gym members alike) have been nothing but helpful and kind.
Staff is super knowledgeable, warm and friendly. If you are just starting out and haven’t been active for awhile, I recommend investing in some personal training sessions to see where you really are and Just get some good , solid direction to avoid injury. It’s not cheap, but worth every penny. As you improve, you can transition over to the classes and not feel out of place.

Great place to get the job done. Bootcamps, barbells work outs, kettle bells.... all the bells, lots of extra whistles (chiropractor, massage, acupuncture, dietician) but none of the BS. ❤️

I have gone to PFP since they opened. Previously I was a member at LAF in Bakery Square, and PFP was a welcome change from the big corporate gym atmosphere. The personal interaction between the staff and clients makes for a much more welcoming environment. Tom and Brian have brought in a fantastic staff and created a great atmosphere to workout, whether it is through personal training or group fitness. There is lots of parking available and the location is great. Stop in today to check out PFP!

The classes are great, challenging without being overwhelming. The instructors are always changing things up so it never gets boring. The environment is so much better than any of the big box gyms. It's definitely worth checking it out, no matter what your level of fitness.

This is the place to go if you want to meet your fitness goals! Since joining I have lost fat and gained muscle in a supportive and fun atmosphere. Tony has refined my diet plan and he keeps the workouts challenging yet interesting. He is very motivational and before you know it the session is over and I’m dripping with sweat.
Definitely recommend Pittsburgh Fitness Project!

People there are REALLY nice! They'll help you with modifications if you can't do something and they're always watching out for your form. I've been taking personal training for almost a year and I've made huge gains in my flexibility and strength. I'd recommend this place to anybody that's looking for a gym where people like to put in the work and are not obnoxious.

Ive attended Pittsburgh Fitness Project classes over the last 2 years. They will modify the workout to any fitness level need. My personal favorites are PFP Strong and Power Hour. In Nov 2017 I started personal training sessions with Tonya 2x week. My goal was to focus on building strength. She is great at explaining the areas to focus on, working multiple muscles through a single movement, and we have yet to repeat the same exercises. She keeps it fun by incorporating ropes, kettle bells, sled push, boxes, TRX, ski urg, barbell, calisthenics, and stretching into sessions. I've learned so much from her and it was the best decision to begin investing in my health. All the instructors are helpful and motivating. Any doubts I've had about my capabilities have been tested, guided through coaching, and proved my self doubt wrong. Everyone belongs here when you walk through the doors. They truly care and the atmosphere is welcoming.

I took a Wine and Squat event class here. This convinced me to purchase a groupon for 10 classes for around $40 which is a great deal. I like groupon for trying new places. Also, I'm already a member at other studios and just wanted a place to fill in the occasional gap where I needed a workout.
The gym is bright and clean. There are lockers for your stuff. Multiple single bathrooms that are large suitable for changing (not stalls, a room with a toilet and sink). Water fountains and bottled water available. Bring your own towel if you're a sweater.
I mostly took the power hour classes which were all great. I particularly enjoyed Jillian's classes. I did take Zumba strong once. I probably would have taken it again, but I was the only class attendee when I went and it felt awkward having everyone else in the gym able to watch. Not sure if this was a fluke or if this class isn't well attended.
If you're looking for a place to workout where the workouts are constantly changing and challenging, I would recommend this place. The only reason I stopped going is because it was similar to a place that I already attend, and I just feel a stronger bond to my original gym. Also, I decided to add spinning and barre to my week rather than more of the same stuff.
Everyone in class, including the instructors, was friendly and found humor when things got hard-- which I find important.
They do barbell training in this gym as well. Which is my only negative. I personally don't enjoy hearing the barbells banging the floor. So if you're an anxious person or have ptsd, you should take that into consideration.

As the people staff and others are very nice there.. unless you have alot of money to spend on a trainer everyday, everyone pretty much ignores you. If you get one day with a trainer, you are expected to know what to do, how to do it, and how many times on your own. Not what i was looking for , for the $120.00 i just spent. If your new to the gym scene, and dont know what to do or how to do it. Like myself , you dont have alot of money. Find somewhere else to go.

Went to their grand opening today and had lots of fun. Their workouts are doable and challenging. They have HIIT mixed with body weight exercises, battle ropes, medicine ball and dumbbell. They have strength classes and Pilates too
