I signed up in March with an Altoona address and somehow the system signed me up for the Johnstown location. It never showed me this. I only found out when I went in and tried to use the gym for the first time in Altoona. The manager said you are a member of the Johnstown Planet Fitness. I said that is a mistake I live here and used my address here in Altoona at the time. He then tried to sign me up for the Black Member ship which is naturally more per month but you can work out at any gym. I said no then he said he may have to charge me $5 additional per visit until the location could be changed later in the month. Said it could only be done by Johnstown at a certain time each month. Had an attitude the whole time. I finally got that ironed out between the 2 locations. Then I see you can only cancel your membership by a mailed letter or in person. You can not do it on the website like any other legitimate business. I sent a letter in on July 9th to cancel. I see I was billed on the 15th of July. I just called in and the computer is down but the girl says they never got the letter and my account is still active. I had a feeling that would be the case by the sign up issue and the vibe I got from the manager while trying to correct their mistake. I'll go in tomorrow and cancel in person. Stay tuned for any updates. Be very careful doing business with this location.

Came to this gym from outta town and was very impressed. Definitely the nicest PF I’ve been to. I wish my local gym was this nice. The gym looked packed from the outside but when I went inside was impressed with how big the gym was that even with being full it wasn’t too crowded to the point where I’m waiting for machines. The locker room and showers were nice and clean. The layout of the gym was perfect as well. Can’t wait to use this gym again whenever I come back to Altoona.

Would give zero stars if I could. Tried to cancel my membership before the 25th so I wouldn't have to pay the 49 dollar fee by sending a letter in cus me and my gf moved 2 hours away, I sent it the 20th and it was never received by them, so then I called the 1st when I saw it tried to take it out of my account and talked to lady that said I needed to come in store cus they didn't get my letter and that I should try and do it before the 10th so I don't get charged the monthly charge. The only day that I could come do it was the 9th cus of work, in the time before I came down t tried to charge me another 2 times and even took a 15 dollar late fee from me so In total I have been charged 64 dollars. So I came in the 9th and the guy that helped me told me I would have to pay it when I sign up again at planet fitness which I was okay with. Today, the 15th, I was charged the 49 dollars when I was told I would have to when I signed back up and when I called the guy on the phone who said he was a manger was very rude and not understanding at all of the situation and thinks his employee won't lie to cover his ass from getting in trouble. Would never recommend going to planet fitness vs local gyms that wouldn't do this and talk down to someone over the phone, very frustrated by this with the image they presented with the "no judgement zone"

This gym is huge and has a great variety of workout options. This is the second time I've been here (from out of town). I've been to 5 other locations and this is the only one that isn't friendly. Two of the staff members made eye contact with me, but didn't say hello, goodbye, have a great workout, etc. That kind of behavior gives me the impression that they hate their job and don't respect the company they work for. Planet Fitness shouldn't hire employees that don't have basic manners or social skills.

Great facility if you are into CrossFit and looking for a cheaper alternative or need to go somewhere outside of specific class times. Since the expansion, there are Peloton style bikes, CrossFit like rowers, more kettlebells, pull-up rigs, etc. The front staff is also very helpful and welcoming. I'd recommend Planet to anyone! Esp. for the price.

I’ve been coming to Planet for my workouts off and on since about 2014. People often tell me they don’t like to come here because it’s not a real gym. My advice is to not listen to those people. A gym is a gym, and if you aren’t getting good workouts there, you need to research some harder workouts!

This gym is by far the best in the area. The staff is always friendly, it’s always clean, the gym itself is HUGE since the expansion update, and they have pretty much every machine imaginable.

One of my favorite parts of the gym has to be the cables. They’re smooth and easy to use. I find cables to be complete junk at every other gym. The one downside is the fact that there’s no free-weight equipment for squats, bench, etc. While it is unfortunate, it’s a corporate decision and I understand. Realistically, you can do most free weight exercises with both dumbbells.

Overall, it’s hard to beat. Especially with how cheap a white card membership is. I have the black card because I travel for work frequently and it allows me to use other Planet Fitnesses across the state. I highly recommend Planet Fitness in Altoona!

I have been to Planet Fitness’ from Maine to North Carolina. This particular location is unusually large and very well kept despite its size. I am guessing in the small city of Altoona It is the only show in town. It is, however the only planet fitness I have been to without a scale in the locker room. Not sure why they chose not to put one in there. The rest of the club is higher end for a Planet Fitness.

It's your typical gym. Gym rats are heavy around 330-7pm, older people heavy in the early mornings between 7am and 11am. The staff are okay. They don't really care about anything other than talking with their favorites. There's a lot of people that will sit on a certain machine and never move. People have complained, but nothing ever gets done. You can't beat the price of 10 bucks a month, but you may not get a satisfying workout due to people hogging the machines or spaces.

I have been considering using this gym since I have been spending my weekends in Altoona. Unfortunately you have lost a potential customer due to the fact that you are kicking a handicapped man out due to a person that has caused many issues at this gym and others.
Happy to know that you will back a harasser and a predator at your facility so I don’t make the mistake of becoming a member. The “man” videos women without their knowledge, bullies and harasses a handicapped man and threatens him with a gun on more than one occasion. Shame on you! Do better!
I have told the handicapped man to sue you all for providing an unsafe environment for him and others when you all knew that the harasser needed kicked out and had many conversations with people about how to get rid of him. Profanity should be the least of your concerns at this moment.

I am a black card holder and I love it. The hydro massage is a wonderful reward after a hard practice and I can go to whatever club I want to on my travels around the US. It is not expensive, so if I don’t go for a while, it does not feel like a waste of money. This particular location is clean, not too busy, and the crew is always helpful. The place used to be good value. Now it's garbage. Daytime is slightly less awful but at night you'll see people openly vaping, teens running around yelling.

Traveling from Pittsburgh. This fitness center makes any of my local PF locations look bad. Altoona is perhaps the cleanest and most well-maintained PF I have ever been to. They have been remodeling since the summer, the guys bathrooms have been an outhouse that smells of urine since they began, they haven't added anything by way of strength training, just more cardio and core. Free weights and Smith machines are constantly taken and backed up due to the overwhelming amount of unused cardio equipment they dump money into rather than adding more free weights
