The most horrible fitness center I've ever been to. Start with the staff, not all but MOST; never at the counter when needed, very rude, disconnected and seem to be bothered by customers. Machines, although primarily the members responsibility, should be cleaned periodically, they are not, especially the tanning machines. You seriously run the risk of seriously staph infections in thos booths. My last day there was discovering, (brace yourself), brownish stains on the inside wall of a booth. Enter at your own risk folks.

They screw up billing, charge the wrong credit card even after going in person twice for them to change the account on file, resume your membership without consent, won't refund you for the months they shouldn't have charged, AND don't even apologize for any of their f-ups. It is great that new machines were brought in... but WHY would you then reduce the number of machines by what? Half? And then basically put them on top of each other? I feel like all I do is wait and wait for a machine... which is usually occupied by teenagers not actually working out, but hanging out or just staring at their phones.

I used to love coming here, but now, I don't know... it's definitely not nearly as good as it was before all of the expensive renovations.

New machines? Yes! Just put it all back where it all was and don't reduce the amount of equipment available to paying members.

And train the staff to make the teenagers use the equipment or get off of it and also to not hover over a machine that someone is on because they have no clue what gym etiquette is, making women uncomfortable enough to not finish our sets and opt to just get off of the machine so we don'thave these boys hovering over our heads (literally 3 boys each took a visible psy around me and one even leaned on the machine while I was using it. I asked them to move and they just laughed. I was so uncomfortable I left and didn't finish my workout). This happens every summer when these kids swarm the place and its not ok.

Incredible staff and gym culture. First time. The staff immediately engaged and went out of their way to help me! They make you feel like you belong. Super affable without hovering or smothering. Can't say enough good things!

Members all appear to wipe down equipment. Believe me, it's the first thing I look at. Quiet. Focused.

To the owners of the Downingtown Planet Fitness you did a disservice changing it up the way you did. A lot of people are complaining including the front staff who said a lot of people are complaining. You took four machines and turn them into two making the wait longer. You took the two main abdominal machines and put one that people don't know how to use and strain their back and neck one and the good one that is always busy. You took away machines out of the 30-minute workout and then turned around and totally eliminated the 30-minute workout. You have a lot of annoyed members

Even after all the upgrades, the same issues remain: the bathrooms are consistently dirty, fixtures are often broken or out of service, and overall functionality is poor. It’s frustrating because this has been an ongoing issue, even before the renovation, and it still hasn’t been properly addressed.

How is it that such a visible and essential part of the customer experience is overlooked? Is it a matter of resources, or is there simply a lack of care for your brand’s image and your guests’ comfort?

Clean, working restrooms aren’t a luxury—they’re a basic expectation. I hope this feedback helps drive some real change.

ive been going here for awhile, and am usually pretty intimidated and feel like i dont know what im doing, but everyone that works there is so friendly and kind that it abates a lot of the trepidation i get. the owners are super nice, and even from small interactions that i have with staff they are nothing short of amazing. thank you for making such a welcoming environment:)

Have been a member for many years, but actively looking for a new gym now. I did not like the renovations last year. Everything seemed so much more cramped. Did not like how the weight machines were basically right on top of the bikes, and a number of the machines were facing each other. Very awkward to squint and grunt facing someone you don’t know while you are lifting! And the circuit area was reduced, but at least it was still there. Now the circuit is completely gone, the machines are on top of each other, and it is very intimidating to have all of the expert level bodybuilders right in front of you while you are just trying to get by on the treadmill. And that equipment up front is not exactly self-explanatory, but when I asked about having a staff member train me, no one was available. It is no longer the non-intimidating, “fitness for everyone” environment that it used to be. I am keeping one star because the spa was a nice improvement, and the staff members are lovely.

A bunch of resistance machines got replaced with new ones and thats great and all but there are now fewer overall to use 😭 I like to go as soon as im done with work around 5 PM and ive been finding myself walking around, hoping that someone would finish their set in a timely manner — and that there also wasnt someone else already waiting in line for the machine I wanted to use. I dont like hovering next to someone, silently hoping theyll hurry along so I can get my turn.

I'm hoping they'll either add some more machines or bring back some of the older ones. I left feeling really frustrated with my workout today which isn't what I come here for.

Does anyone know why the gym was re-renovated? It’s so much worse - they removed a lot of great machines and some of the “upgrades” honestly feel worse than the previous ones. They added more cardio machines when there are already a ton. It’s much more likely a for one of the 30 cardio machines to be freed up than a single hamstring curl or leg extension machine. Planet fitness if you are reading this, go back to the old format, don’t ruin things that were already excellent.

I'm disappointed with the recent equipment update at the facility(as of 6/10/25). The changes included the removal of several weight machines and the rearrangement of other equipment, but unfortunately, they haven't added any real value to the overall experience.

Removing duplicate weight machines has created additional bottlenecks—now, if a particular machine is in use, you're stuck waiting. While the new machines are technically newer, they aren't better than the ones they replaced. They include electronic rep and time counters, which sound like a useful upgrade, but based on the Malvern location (which has similar machines), those counters tend to stop functioning after just a few months.

The 30-minute circuit room also underwent an "overhaul," though it feels more like everything was taken out and replaced with random items. The original machines and step blocks have been removed from the room. As of this morning, the space now contains four exercise benches, five medicine balls, two weight plates, two floor mats, a yoga ball, and a small dumbbell tree. I personally haven’t seen anyone using that area since the update, but your experience may vary. As it stands, it feels like wasted space. I would have preferred to see a full dumbbell rack and mirrors added, especially since the main and secondary dumbbell areas are often overcrowded.

Overall, these changes don’t seem to improve the experience or functionality of the facility. It's still a decent gym, but this update feels like a step backward.

The one star is only due to it being clean and the employees being nice. Updated June 2025. Corporate removed many machines people used. Some machines would be difficult to get to as they were popular but then removed them all. After talking to numerous employees, many customers are planning on leaving due to the changes. I have submitted an email and a survey to Corporate but doubt they will care.

Me and my girlfriend went to Planet Fitness in Downingtown Pa. On March 12th. We arrived around 12 midnight at approximately 3:30 we were approached by 2 African American workers and told us there's a 2 hour workout limit and we had to leave or they would call the Police and have us arrested for trespassing and loitering, furthermore, they also told us that this isn't a Homeless Shelter and were not even homeless ,they also told us as the workers were laughing at us that Transgender woman or any Transgender people are not welcomed here. This kind of behavior is unexceplble and shouldn't be talorated in anyway.DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLANET FITNESS. PERIOD!!!!!

The people there are great and so is the community. I have gone there for years. The mens bathroom, however, is a major health concern. There is black mold throughout EVERY shower, the floor grout, the drain...you name it. Again, this is a major board of health concern. It needs to be either professionally cleaned or literally ripped out. I thought after the renovations this would be resolved, but it wasn't. Do the right thing here folks.

This newly renovated planet fitness is amazing. I like how they added walls and sections which allow the gym to have more machines which as before they had many cardio machines

Along with that the gym is clean and the machines have no tears on them as they’re brand new compared to other planet fitnesses.

Staff is cool and because this is a corporate location I like how it’s 24/7. Other planet fitness locations in the chester county area are franchise locations which is fine but the problem is after covid a lot of them stopped doing 24/7. So because of that coming here when all the other gyms are closed is pretty convenient.

7/31/24 I would like to update my review to say that I have still been trying to reach people to get a refund on my account. The person who promised me at Downingtown, they would look into it and call me back by a date certain did not do that. I followed up again today they hang up on me or will not answer the phone when I tried to call them and provide them the account information. I suppose I will head over there and try to make an appointment with the manager, but I cannot reiterate strongly enough I would avoid this particular branch.

Customer service is awful. Trying to end a financial obligation for a membership that is not mine-coming from my account. They will not help in any way. Business culture is poor. UPDATE: I received a contact in reply to this and they further support my feelings. They bounce blame that corp. cant do this as its a franchise back and forth. Even if you are victim of fraud they will charge you to stop the bleeding. Greed over custmer is never the way to go.

Similar to other opinions, this location is decently sized, has hydro-massage, massage chair, tanning and sizable variety of equipments. Not as elaborate as LA fitness or some other bigger locations, but for the price, worth every penny.
The only reason this is not 5 stars is:
There are a huge number of tread-mills almost 30-50 and only occupied 50% at peak hours. Maybe if they could clear out unused ones, it can have more space and more variety of equipment especially for chest press, triceps workouts which are limited/heavily used.

I don’t care what anyone says, I like this gym over many of the others out there. I had joined LA Fitness in 2020 and just really never went back after Covid. I’ve been to a few others also. I always felt uncomfortable and judged. I’m not saying that people don’t judge me at PF but I don’t judge myself. I really think that’s the most of it. A lot of us just judge ourselves so harshly, and I’ve gotten to the age where I’m doing this for me, nobody else. I go, I sweat and I see the differences it makes for my body. We all should give ourselves a little grace. I see it in a lot of those surrounding me, just let it go. Go lower your cortisol, raise your endorphins and be good to your body. The Downingtown PF usually hopping. I go very early or very late to avoid the crowds. Place is clean, and staff are friendly and helpful. Not my home Gym

I started coming to this PF instead of my home gym after I switched jobs, and let me just say, I absolutely love this gym.
The locker rooms and workout areas are always clean, and the staff here is so friendly!
It does get a little busy during "rush hour" so come prepared for that. I do love that they brought back the 24-hour gym hours, and I wish all planet fitnesses would follow suit.

Overall a good experience here, it’s clean and has everything I need for most any workout and I do enjoy the black card benefits. Only reason I have four star is because there’s way more treadmills than there are every people actually using them, but only four of the free weights machines and I end up awkwardly standing around waiting for one to free up so I can complete my workout at almost every visit, one time I ended up just leaving with my workout only half completed because they were just in too high demand. I feel like they could easily get rid of an entire row of cardio machines to make room for a few more of the weight machines. Other than that, nothing but good things!

I love that the staff always greets me when I come in and when I leave telling me to “have a great day or evening.” The staff are personable and down to earth and answers any questions you have.
