I ABSOLUTELY LOVE coming to this gym. The staff are AMAZING. They literally go out of their way to please any and everyone. The staff make it feel so welcoming to be there. They learn your name and make sure they greet you when you come and go. This is the cleanest PF I have been too tbh. I've been to many of them and this one is top notch the cleanest and friendliest. Every time I'm working out I turn my head and one of the staff are cleaning or smiling and greeting the guest. This is the BEST PF I have ever went too. It's like family there and I love that type of energy. They make you feel wanted and welcome. So BIG shout out to Amanda (the manager) Rebecca (the assistant manager) and Lenny, you guys rock and i appreciate you guys so much. ⭐☆☆☆☆ — A Very Disappointing Experience at Planet Fitness Hanover (Baltimore Street)

I normally don’t leave negative reviews, but after months of ongoing issues at the Planet Fitness in Hanover on Baltimore Street—and repeatedly feeling singled out, uncomfortable, and unwelcome—I felt compelled to share my experience.

I have been a daily, dedicated Planet Fitness member for a long time. I come in, stay in my lane, work out, and leave. Unfortunately, this location has made that simple routine increasingly difficult.

1. Constant Issues with Management’s Approach to Recording Policies

I do fitness recordings for my own personal progress. When Amanda, the manager, told me that Planet Fitness does not allow recording, I immediately agreed to stop—no argument, no problem. I even went out of my way to blur every single previous video to protect the privacy of all members.

Despite all of that, one video slipped through the AI blur and caught someone in the background on a bike. Amanda approached me extremely upset, and instead of having a private, respectful conversation, she confronted me in front of other customers, threatening to “document” the issue and even ban me. It was humiliating and felt completely disproportionate considering I had already complied with the rule and made the effort to correct past videos.

I couldn’t shake the feeling that I was being targeted rather than treated like a normal paying member.

2. Told I “Can’t Wait for Equipment” and Accused of Being Intimidating

On another visit, I was simply waiting—quietly, respectfully—for a piece of equipment to open up. I was literally on my phone, minding my business, and not approaching anyone. Amanda came up to me again, telling me I needed to “do something else” because I was apparently intimidating the people using the equipment.

I wasn’t staring at them. I wasn’t hovering over them. I wasn’t doing anything but waiting to work out like any normal gym-goer. At this point, it genuinely felt like I was being singled out for no reason other than her personal feelings toward me. It’s extremely uncomfortable to feel like you can’t even exist in the gym without being corrected or approached.

3. Overcrowding, Not Enough Equipment, and Zero Solutions

This place has an overwhelming number of members and nowhere near enough equipment. Nearly everything is constantly taken, and during peak hours, it’s almost impossible to get through a workout.

Planet Fitness also brings in high-school students for free during the summer, which is great in theory, but in practice it floods the gym with kids who sit on the equipment, talk, browse their phones, and don’t work out. Meanwhile, paying adult members who come daily can’t get anything done.

When you bring these concerns to management, the response is always, “We don’t rush people off equipment.” I fully agree with that policy—no one should be rushed. But somehow, I get told that I’m not allowed to wait for equipment. How does that make sense? You don’t want me to rush anyone, you don’t want to rush anyone yourselves, but you also don’t want me to stand there and wait. It creates a situation where regular members are stuck in a no-win scenario.

4. The Overall Atmosphere Feels Micromanaged and Over-Policed

Every gym has rules—no problem at all. But the way the rules are enforced at this location feels inconsistent and extremely personal. I don’t see other members being approached like I am. I don’t see other people being told not to wait for equipment. I don’t see other people being publicly confronted for small, already-resolved issues.

It feels like Amanda runs this place like a police state instead of a welcoming environment. Instead of helping members feel comfortable and supported, it feels like she inserts herself into situations that don’t need intervention unless she personally decides she doesn’t like something about a member.

well, I walked in in the gentleman that was working when I told him what I wanted, said that he would take me around for a tour, but he was the only one there so I walked around, looked at the equipment saw some new stuff when I got back to the counter, I asked him about my favorite app machine and they had gotten rid of it and they haven’t had a personal trainer in over 10 years to plate just felt so different and not in a good way

Tried this gym while my main gym is being remodeled. Equipment seems fine but the locker rooms and tanning rooms definitely need to be cleaned better. Also the trash bins throughout the gym have rust on them. The staff is okay but not the friendliest. Be prepared to go through a convoluted process to even use the tanning bed. Lastly the gym is dimly lit which makes me think is by design to not show the lack of cleanliness. Will be going back to Eldersburg even thought it is further until Westminster reopens. Truly disappointed with this gym.

Just started using this gym while my home fitness is currently being upgraded. It’s a nice place. Clean and employs a very courteous staff. Everything is spaced out nicely. My only complaint, is that my girl lifts a few hours before the sun rises, and that parking lot is dark. Very dark, and it’s off to the side so it’s not even picking up ambient light from the main road. I know this isn’t in Planet Fitness’ control, but that property manager over there needs to accommodate their parking lot lights for 24 hour establishments, for the safety of the staff and guests visiting. I’m hoping someone from the PF head office could make a phone call to make this happen.

I just started going to this gym again after taking a break for a few years. The shower area is not being cleaned as often as it used to be. Both times I've been there recently, there were long hairs bunched up on the floor. It definitely needed swept or mopped. I would always see an employee cleaning a few years ago. Now I have yet see anyone step out from behind the counter.

It's hard to complain about something that is such a good value but they could do a better job here in some respects. Meatheads, newbies and the oblivious can have a tendency to horde equipment. New people aren't going to know gym etiquette unless someone tells you what it is. On my tour and the subsequent ones I've observed, I have not seen any staff tell people to be aware of lingering on equipment particularly during busy times. Today I observed 2 guys that were using 2 of the 3 smith machines hogging the machine for an hour each. They had their smith machine loaded up with weight. They'd do a set, get on their phone or laptop for a minute or 2, mosey on over to the cable cross-over machine for a set of triceps, meander for a bit and then knock out a set of curls or dumbbell lateral raises before finally returning to the the smith machine where all their stuff like water bottles and backpacks remained camped out with all their weight still on the bar. Literally hoarding the machine just so they could do a set on it every 10-15 minutes or so. It was annoying to watch and I wasn't even waiting to use it. I saw numerous people approach the machine quizzically, clearly wanting to use it but seeing weight on the bar and someone's stuff all over the place...look around to see if they could figure who was on it and finally just give up and move on to something else. It wasn't til some big dude just stood there kinda making his presence known, did they return to the smith machine, knock out a quick set and finally get off the machine. Stuff like this will happen if you aren't letting people know what proper gym etiquette is, paying attention and calling people out for it. I'd suggest putting up some signs limiting time to 15-20 minutes or perhaps have staff every once in a while ask how long they've been on the equipment. Consider putting a timer that can be seen from the front desk perhaps. Truthfully, the staff are nice but spend almost all their time at the desk, all 4 of them. At least one person could be taking care of things like this.

The gym is nice, clean, and broken equipment is usually fixed very quickly. Been going there for two years now. Reason I left though was because my membership started at 10 dollars and gradually increased to 20 which is double within just two years. Love the staff, love the location, but it feels wrong that any location can double their price within that short amount of time. Had I been asked prior to the price increases if I would like to continue going here despite the increase I probably would have stayed with that kind of transparency. But I also know that most companies won’t do that. So despite my decision to leave I give this place a 4 out of 5 stars. I was told at the counter that I will not be charged even for this month moving forward. Assuming that was true my review will stay at four starts. If you come back and see a lower rating it is because I got charged unexpectedly and wasn’t told the truth. I only put this disclaimer because someone else’s review said they got charged despite being told that they would not be.

Never used my membership once in two years. Go in person to cancel the membership. Was told specifically I would not be charged anything for the next month or anything. Three days later I get charged a yearly fee. I dispute it because I was told I would not be charged. A week later get charged the yearly fee again PLUS a return fee. Sham. Liars at the counter. Over a thousand paid over two years to never use it because a week after I signed up I got relocated. Can only cancel in person and I haven't worked near a location in that time. So two years worth of black card membership, plus now another yearly fee and a return fee after I canceled it the prior month. Don't lie to people at the counter.

The old equipment was better than the new. On the new equipment, I can do 5 minutes on the treadmill at 3.5 mph and 2.5 incline on two different machines. One will say I use 27 calories, while the other one says 38 calories. I try to be serious about going to the gym, but it is hard to keep track of what I am doing when each treadmill shows me different results. I really don’t know what I have done. At least the old machines had the same result no matter which one I use. Please have the new machines calibrated.

I wish I could give a five star review, part of me really likes this gym. When I started here, they had a phenomenal trainer named Zach, who worked with me where I was. But he left, and it took them FOREVER to get a new trainer. I asked for months while I was told, in a week, in a month, coming soon...eventually I explained to them that I NEEDED a trainer, and would have to go elsewhere until they got one. So I went to a different gym for a while, but then they turned into a rock climbing gym (rip club 2000). I decided to check back into planet fitness, and they were FINALLY getting a trainer, and signed back up right when they were offering the Halo as a promotion...that didn't work out. But at least I had a trainer, and I am JUST NOW getting to a place where everything is going great. Until I went today, and found out from the staff that they are about to lose their trainer AGAIN in a few weeks. I don't understand why they can't keep a trainer there, but I guess I will have to start looking for a new gym...AGAIN...not to mention that according to THEIR promotions the membership that I PAY FOR includes classes and a trainer. So one star...so disappointed.

Judgment free zone, even thought they spell judgment incorrectly- judgEment is written on their walls. Sorry that's the teacher in me lol. I've only been going for one week but this experience has caused me to look forward to exercising. My 13 yr old son and I love it. We're getting fit together and it's fun. He likes to challenge me on the treadmill with speed and calories burned. Hanover and West York's Planet Fitness are both great, but Hanover tends to be our preferred go to cuz the layout is a little different and it's not as crowded at the times we like to go.

I was charged twice in one month for no reason at all and their “policy” doesn’t allow you cancel a membership over the phone and they wouldn’t explain why I was charged 40$ for no reason on top of my 24$ membership fee. Half the time in the evening the paper towels are empty or close to it and the desk people sit on their phones and do nothing. They stopped me twice for scanning my plus one first bc they didn’t believe me that I scanned him in with me. They’re nice but this location is not great.

Would actually love it if this place were to be open 24/7 it actually closes early on the weekends so be mindful for your workouts, decent space and it gets pretty crowded on the usual times if you go to the gym you know to avoid the after work rush sadly thats the only time i can go at lol. Most machines have at least 2 of each. theres plenty of treadmills, and then there's the wall with the free weights and the 30 min corner from every planet fitness. Staff is pretty friendly, and the locker rooms and bathrooms are kept pretty clean (at least the mens is).

This is a great place to go if you're looking to maintain or lose weight and also build muscle. I've been to other planet fitnesses before and yes this one is a bit smaller, but still has all of the equipment needed. If you are someone who does not like to wait for machines, consider going early in the morning or later at night, when crowds are low. I'm thankful there is one in Hanover and even though it's small, it is still very nice and clean. I love their prices and having a buddy to come with helps to keep me coming and motivated. I highly recommend a Black card, it allows you to bring one guest and gives you access to some other great benefits like going to any planet fitness rather than having to stay at one so if you don't like the location, you still have options to find bigger locations.

Few occasions the water therapy bed has been not working properly but I've never had any other problem there. It's safe, clean, has abundance of options & friendly staff.

I have been going here for years. At first, It was much less crowded even during peak hours. Now, you will often need to wait for the smith machine, pull downs, and even free weight sections. Often, people will be working out directly behind others in the free weight area as there is no room to go anywhere else. This location is small, and does not offer as much space as the Westminster location to spread out. Staff are friendly when prompted, but barely acknowledge you as you walk in/out.

They do keep the gym clean which is great. I think they would benefit more by looking into a bigger location.

Management and Staff are great.

My only issue is the older folks who come and feel they don't need to wipe down machines after they use them. Then if you confront them about it they yell about covid and this and that. No.. no one wants whatever disease you have old man. Clean up after yourselves people. It takes 30 secs to wipe down machines, weights or mats after you've used them.

Great gym for the price. Unfortunately, if you're into strength training be ready to wait as there is more cardio equipment than strength. Overall, not terrible but could be more balanced. ***Update*** Still a great gym and still plenty of cardio equipment. The 30 minute workout area is still plagued with people who just campout on machines and don't consider the people who are actually circuit training. Today 10/7 a "Karen" complained to the staff that I wasn't wiping down the machines. Well I would love to do that however people like herself who camp out on said machines and screw up my workout which I have limited time on my lunch hour by the way would follow said 30 minute guidelines I would do that. However as it stands the staff DOES NOT MONITOR THAT AREA AT ALL and I can count on one hand with 4 fingers left the many of times that I've been able to use the area as intended. When this is addressed and seems to stay that way this rating will change but until then they are 2 stars as the staff watches many people not wipe things down and nothing is said. You guys gotta pick you either enforce it all or don't enforce anything.

They need to start monitoring people who sit on machines and are more interested with their smartphones instead of working out. They hog the machine for 20 minutes and do not workout. Thinking of changing gyms. Gets worse every time I go the the gym!!!

Smaller PF but seems to have the same equipment as most larger centers. Staff and patrons are friendly and easy going. Air conditioning works well and despite the summer heat I haven't felt uncomfortable with the indoor climate.
