I have been going here for three years at 4 am 4-5 times a week. Recently they posted signs to change the hours to 5 am during the week. There are alot of people with alot of reasons that can only go at 4 am. Now a club that says on the wall without you this planet wouldn't be the same, doesn't seem to care anymore. When I reached out to address these changes I received one phone call with a voicemail, when I called back there was no option to reach the local branch or to ask to a human being. When I ask the desk employee they said it was the franchise owners decision to change the hours and the employee stated that they would rather start work earlier. The employees there are great but like most companies the owners are not. Thanks planet, I guess anytime fitness would be happy to take my membership along with several others at the shamokin dam pa franchise that will be leaving due to the jour change

The people and desk managers there are excellent. This has nothing to do with them.

Recently, most of the equipment was updated and done clearly without input from the active members (you know, we loss-leaders, who attend regularly, take fitness seriously, and use the equipment rather than the absentees who are the profit center, pay $10 a month, and not come at all). They did the same thing about 5 years ago but at that time, incorporated subpar lifting equipment compared to what they replaced.

The Matrix treadmills are complete garbage! You run uphill, constantly bang your thighs on the hand controls, which suck in terms of practical functionality, and the deck is very sluggish and unresponsive. After two days, my knees, hips, and lower back are torn up. The new ellipticals and steppers are no better.

Good things are seldom cheap and cheap things are seldom good. If they got a good deal on this junk, then they got a good deal on junk. Who cares if is of any value to the members?

I’ve been a Black Card member for 10 years. However, as soon as I find a gym with Life Fitness treadmills, I will cancel my membership and not look back.

UPDATE. 3/22/2025
Again, this has nothing to do with the franchise owners, employees or members.

After several months and new aches and pains caused by Matrix treadmills, I called PF corporate several weeks ago, waited 20 minutes, finally spoke with someone, and voiced my concerns. I was told someone would call me in 3-5 days. That never happened.

Clearly, PF corporate could care less about its members and ultimately, franchise owners. This is very disappointing.

UPPDATE 2. 6/6/2025.
In addition to the above, I have made a total of 3 calls and have left 3 messages with a very polite service person at PF corporate. No return call.

I love it. I love that i can put music on and not be bothered by anyone. Reason I gave it a 4 is because I would love for it to have a fun center where kids can go for mothers like me. I come when they go to school but would love to come twice a day but can't cause no sitter. As someone who avoided the gym like the plague all my life, I originally started going to use the red light booth for a skin condition along with tanning. I'm glad to be able to go here again, but it seems now that there are people running around inside making other people feel uncomfortable. I was there 3/21/24 about 9:50pm and 3 guys were in the 30min area as me and my guest just watching us and making gestures and comments about us. This is not okay by any means. The individuals were not even there to exercise, and I do not think they even had a membership too be there. This type of behaviour needs to be addressed and handled.

The energy of the gym is great, I’m always excited to go workout and don’t wanna leave. The machines are really good and I’ve never dealt with a broken one. The place is clean, and the gym goers are chill people. Nobody bothers you. You can leave your things in the locker without a lock and return to it still there. I love using the tanning bed aswell

You get to exercise relatively cheaply. Some staff are cool. Others are....meh. It's very clean. About 25% of the cardio machines are dysfunctional in some form or another. It's trial and error to find the right one. The clientele is respectful.

If I could put 0 I would after visiting numerous times with our daughter (7yrs old) minding her business behaving in the sitting area today we get told we must remove her from the building as kids aren’t allowed in over 13. I understand if she was trying to lift or get on a machine but no just sitting there behaving we now can’t do a simple workout after I’ve paid for a subscription for yrs at this point. All because of a “liability issue” which is ridiculous. If you’re in shape and if you’re not Caucasian or white they will judge you very badly and also give you dirty looks which will result in making you feel uncomfortable. I guess these cultist Pennsylvanians had an issue with me being a jacked, brown skinned middle eastern man with tattoos bothered them considering the hostile stares I received from all the front desk members. I love planet fitness. Team members are awesome everyone. The gym in Lewisburg too. I love using the massage bed and the scale in the bathroom i love that there are plenty of lockers and room to sit down at. I love the atmosphere. I haven't got to use a trainer yet but I will.the bathroom is always clean and i love all the stations you habe that we can clean the equipmentbefore and after. I wish there was a safe place for child care while the parents work out but all in all I give you a 15 out of a 10 I have a 10 month old baby I gained 60 pounds from her the c section so just couldn't do anything for 3 months because I could of bled to death. But now I'm back on. Track to loosing weight I lost almost 30 pounds so far and I want to loose about 50 to 70 more and the machine tells you what part of your body that you are working

Being between a dollar store and Ollie’s gives this PF a lower energy vibe unfortunately right from the start. This gym has a super friendly staff and inside the gym area is pretty clean and machines are in order. However the woman’s showers has a weird film and I could not shower here. I asked a staff member and he said it was cleaner. I’ve never seen PF showers like this.

Both Planet Fitness's I go to, Shamokin Dam and Lewisburg, do a great job keeping the locker rooms and equipment as clean as possible. There is always an associate out on the floor maintaining CDC standards to keep us members safe. They will even give you a mask if you need one.

My complaint is this: failure to effectively communicate holiday hours.
Please make an effort to ensure hours are accurate on Google. Also, here I sit outside at 8:22 PM on July 3 expecting your facility to be open till 9 PM as it is stated on Google. I called and your voicemail does not indicate any adjusted hours nor is there a sign posted on the door indicating adjusted hours.

The same thing happened to me Memorial Day weekend. There was a sign posted on Memorial Day weekend but nothing was available remotely that I saw.

Please make a better effort to communicate adjusted holiday hours to your members. Thank you!

It's planet fitness....it's a great gym to work out at if you're a beginner that doesn't really know much. I'm used to working out in gyms that you can be shirtless, Carry around jugs of water, grunt loud when lifting heavy, have dumbells that go higher than 65lbs and free weights, that's a big thing for me. I don't like using Smith machines for anything but military presses. Ik my review won't change this because it's standard at every PF but it would be nice to have a couple benches to do certain things like bench press', squats, shrugs and Curling heavy with an Olympic bar. Oh, and can you please put a physician scale in the locker rooms and maybe get a BMI detector to keep behind the desk? Just a few suggestions to keep people that are used to working out at places like Golds, Powerhouse, and other strength training gyms happy. Using a Smith machine will never train your twitch muscles or learn how to stabilize a bar. Other than that, love the low rates, tanning beds and body shaper. Staff is phenomenal and very Courteous and helpful!
