It would be nice if the Planet Fitness in Shippensburg would let its members know approximately how long the facility is going to be closed for construction. A few days, weeks, or months? A brand new gym just opened is the area. Maybe I should join that one. in the meantime.

I have been a member at 5 different Planet Fitness locations and Shippensburg is my least favorite. The paper towel dispensers are often empty at several stations including the rest room. I have to go to the front desk and ask them to be filled. Some members are texting in between reps and causing delays on equipment. And why are we texting on machines? I am there to work out not text. Heavy weights are constantly being dropped followed by loud grunting. This gym is the loudest gym I have ever been to and management does not discourage the behavior and never uses the lunk alarm. The 30 minute circuit is backed up by members texting on machines. Also it is hot at this location and the fans are barely moving. A gym should be cool not hot. In the summer it stinks of body odor. I want to sweat because I'm working out not because the the gym is hot. I did not have these issues at 4 other locations. I have shared my concerns with employees. I went there to work out today and they were closed due to construction. I did not receive an email from management saying they were closed and when they would reopen. That was a wasted trip. I wish this Planet Fitness would be similar to the other 4 locations I have been to. Perhaps management needs to be more involved with the gym floor and not just the desk area. I must say that the employees are nice and friendly.

10/31/2025 update: I moved away from the area of this facility. I will miss it. I had difficulty cancelling my membership online, but Derek was awesome in his assistance to me to find a work around to complete the cancellation. If he can work that magic, I know he will help any other member by going above and beyond the call of duty. Best wishes, Derek.

The facility is neat and clean with a very broad array of equipment and free weights. The staff is friendly and helpful. Among the great staff, I especially find Christian to be very personable and devoted to member support and happiness. The hours of operation are accommodating to a wide variety of individual member preferences.

There’s two younger fellas in here that aren’t doing jack but talking to their friends. No cleaning to be had meanwhile there’s plenty of empty paper towel dispensers. It’ll do for a workout however, it would not be my first choice for the area. A little on the small side but they do have a ton of great equipment.

I’ve been going to Planet Fitness in Shippensburg for a while, and honestly, the only reason I still go is because it’s close to home. The gym itself is tiny and constantly overcrowded, especially during peak hours. It’s frustrating trying to get a full workout in when machines are always taken and there’s barely room to move.

Cleanliness is a serious issue. The bathrooms are absolutely disgusting—floors are often wet or sticky, trash is overflowing, and the smell is enough to make you turn around and leave. The locker room isn’t much better, with several lockers broken and left that way for months.

What’s even worse is the equipment. The handles on most machines feel grimy and filthy, like they rarely get cleaned. It's honestly gross and makes you question how often (if ever) the equipment is sanitized.

This place survives solely on convenience, not quality. If you have any other gym option nearby, I’d recommend going there instead. Planet Fitness Shippensburg really needs to step it up.

I have been a PF Black Card member for a while and have regularly used the amenities at the Shippensburg, PA location, including the massage chairs. I have also brought a guest before without any issues. On February 27, 2025, around 7 PM, when I went to use the massage chairs, an employee was assisting me without any problem.

Then, a white female staff member—who had not been involved in the interaction—approached and stated that she needed to check my membership and my guest’s status before allowing us to continue. While I had no issue showing my membership, her tone was stern, and she gave me an unwelcoming look, which felt unnecessary. This level of scrutiny had never been applied to me before, nor have I observed other guests being subject to the same treatment.

I acknowledge that Planet Fitness has policies regarding guest privileges, which I was not previously aware of. However, the way this was handled appeared to be selective enforcement, which raises concerns about fairness and consistency. Given that Planet Fitness promotes a “Judgment Free Zone”, interactions with staff should reflect that principle. If there has been a policy change, I hope it is enforced uniformly for all members rather than in a manner that appears inconsistent.

This experience left a negative impression, and I encourage this Planet Fitness location to ensure that all members and guests are treated equitably and with the same level of courtesy.

I went in person to the actual club to cancel my membership because of this company's incredibly predatory business practices of not allowing anyone to cancel online or over the phone. The rep at the front desk, Christian, was great. As soon as he input my cancellation request into the system, it conveniently crashed. You know, the last day I can cancel without being billed for the next cycle.
So the rep calls the help line to see if he can get member services to cancel my membership since I'm literally standing inside the club at the desk. They put him on hold for a ridiculous amount of time. They put an employee of Planet Fitness on hold while he is trying to help a member. In fact, he's there by himself trying to jump through hoops to help me, trying to take other phone calls, and help other members check in/ use the black card services. He asked me to hold the phone and wait on hold so he could answer the other phone. By the time he's done taking the other call, the help line is still on hold so he just hangs up because at this point they had transferred him twice and put him on hold for around 15-20 minutes.
He lets me know that he was told the manager was supposed to come in but never showed up and he was also relatively new to his position and was trying his best. He asks the trainer, Brian, to see if he can get the system to work and neither of them have any success trying to get the system to work at all.
The two of them finally just have me leave my information on a piece of scratch paper and a statement saying that I was requesting my membership to be cancelled along with my signature so that they could get it figured out later without keeping me all day. They assured me that they would vouch for me if the company tried to charge me.
So, in conclusion, not only does Planet Fitness suck at taking care of their paying customers, they also massively suck at taking care of their employees as well. Sorry PF but your management and business practices just don't cut it.

Great place, nice people. Staff for the most part is very friendly. Occasionally some of the newer staff have been a little less than professional when speaking to clients. An example is: when a client says thank you, the response should be your welcome, however the majority of the responses are “no problem.” It should go without saying that doing ones job is never a problem. Thanks for the opportunity to write a review as it’s saving a call to the owner.
Update, while this is still a great place, the staff is also great and polite. Simply put it seems they care and like the idea you are there.

There is always someone nice to greet you at the door. They are always cleaning something in the gym. The staff is not just standing around, like ever. Their machine are always up and functional. They have good set ups for signing out special equipment so that it’s available and not broken/janky unlike other PF’s I’ve been too. It’s obvious management cares about this gym. I’ve watched the trainer guy assist others per their training program and he’s very knowledgeable and able to relate to his clients. Best PF I’ve worked out in. My only critique is that their showers are older and not updated like a lot of the other PF’s I’ve been too, but tbh I can’t really tell you I’ve seen too many people using them at this particular store.

I travel and have been to countless PF. This ones a little gem. The new awesome leg press as well as other very effective machines. Immaculate and super friendly staff. Only negative is the tanning is outdated for a PF. Most have upgraded to level 4 ergoline at minimum across the country. All in all a great gym for locals. Dont miss out guys!

I only used the tanning beds this time.. but they were very clean and nice.. the facility looked very spacious and clean.. the associates were sooo super friendly and answered all my questions.. they looked like they were having fun.. which made it better!! 😁.. I have been a member for several years and love nearly everything about this gym. However, I use the 30 minute circuit on every visit and there is no air moving back in that alcove. This time of year especially, it’s brutal. Adding a small ceiling fan would be cheap compared to many of the enhancements and additions that have been made recently. Please consider it.

I have faithfully patronized your business for over three years.
For a club that claims no intimidation your mask policy is doing just that... It puts your staff at odds with the people that are making you profitable. I have watched each time there is a crackdown on your policy and ‘poof’ people disappear never to return.

Very clean. That is important to me. As an avid gym goer, cleanliness is necessary to avoid catching illnesses from hands touching machines, or athletes foot from locker room floors. This planet fitness keeps everything clean.
