I would prefer an area better dedicated to stretching/ more floor space for mats. They just added a stretching machine which is nice, but now there is not much open floor space.

There is an employee here harassing members, particularly female ones with children. I witnessed him harassing a family and being very aggressive and when I confronted him about his method he turned on me and began being extremely rude to me and my son and we weren't even involved in the discussion. He is awful. He told us to go to the Y that we'd be happier there. Very inappropriate. I used to love this gym but lately am considering a cancellation. Also told me good luck reaching a manager and then laughed in my face. Absolutely appalling.

I have been a member of Planet Fitness in West Chester for over 5 years and have been very satisfied, overall. But as black Card member, I have only recently taken advantage of support by fitness trainer.

About 6 weeks ago, I started working with James, the fitness trainer. I couldn’t be happier! James is incredibly knowledgeable, and always takes the time to patiently explain things and check in to see how I’m feeling from the previous workout. James is also very supportive and is great at giving encouraging, positive feedback, which is really motivating. James is also excellent and explaining and educating me on the different strength training exercises, their purpose, and the benefits. He’s really engaged and demonstrates a high level of interest and focus when we are working out together. Over the years, I have previously worked with 2 other trainers, each of which I paid an hourly fee for. James is BY FAR, by far, the best trainer I have ever worked with. And the results speak for themselves – James had really helped me tremendously, in terms of getting in shape, toning up and dropping weight. James is a terrific asset to Planet Fitness in West Chester!

I have been going to the West Chester location for many years now. The gym and staff are great. And the trainer, James, is awesome. I started a 4 day a week session with James, back in 2020. He has helped in so many ways. James showed me how to use the equipment properly to prevent injury and get the most from my workout. James is fun to workout with and keeps the workouts fresh. I highly recommend taking advantage of his extensive knowledge and support. You won’t be disappointed.

I have been going to PF West Chester for 3 yrs. The staff is outstanding! They are friendly and very helpful! I have trained with the trainer, James Drake for all of these 3 yrs! They just banned me for life because a woman went to the front desk when I apologized to her for not wiping down some of the equipment I was using. She said I was being agressive. She initially came up to me and told me that I have to wipe down the equipment. I went to her and apologized. She said it was ok and that she had ocd about butt sweat. I said its a good idea to wipe down the equipment beforehand.

She agreed. I gave her a free pass to LA fitness, that i was given, and apologized. She then went to the front desk. They started saying i had to leave. When i asked why, they said they could not tell me and then called the cops.

The cops came and nothing happened. They just said the staff says im banned from west chester planet fitness.

Visiting from out of town. Easy to find and get into/out of the parking lot. The lot is shared with other businesses, so it could be difficult to find a space. The entrance had a wheelchair ramp to access the main floor, if needed. You check in at the desk, and you are ready to work out. They have @30 treadmills, @20 elliptical, @15 bikes (a few seated). They have a 360 room, circuit room, stretching room, and a spa area. They have weight machines for the upper and lower body. They also have squat machines, Leg Press, bench, and free weights. Their locker room is large. There are @ 40 lockers, a counter with hair dryers, 5 showers, sink counter, and toilets. It looked very clean. They'd have tv's that have about 8 different shows. You can plug your headphones into your machine and listen to the program. They do sell some drinks.

Updating my review from 3 years ago since transferred here from the Downingtown one. This is a much newer facility, kept mostly clean, and mostly maintained. The staff is friendly.
Issues observed:
1. To bring a guest, black card members are now required to install the app. Staff will not sign in a guest manually -- this is dumb, I don't want to install a glitchy buggy app that I would never use for anything but signing my guests in a few times a year.
2. It's hot as hell here year round. The heater is blasting right over the cardio machines. Polite notes to staff don't get you anywhere, I'm dreading another heart attack summer at this facility.
3. [the following isn't a complaint to PF, obviously nothing they can do] the parking lot is shared with many shops and people leave their empty shopping carts everywhere. if you care for your vehicle, park far away. If you have a motorcycle, be even more cautious, I had mine hit here twice in one year.

I’ve been a member at Planet Fitness until now, I’ve been quite disappointed with the way management, particularly A guy, who is probably the cleaning staff who is responsible for the access to the hydraulic massage chairs, in the absence of the Manager.

These chairs are advertised as part of the membership perks, yet we are being denied access to them without a clear or reasonable explanation. When inquired, the same guys says that they are not working. which is a pure Lie. he is just "LAZY" to get up from the place he is sitting and give us the access to the hydraulic massage chairs.

we work all the day and yet hit the gym for workouts after 10pm as it is the only free time i can manage. This lack of transparency and unwillingness to accommodate paying members feels unfair and unprofessional. A gym membership is about overall wellness, and amenities like the massage chairs play a significant role in recovery and relaxation after workouts. after all, we Pay the same amount as others who get a chance to access to the hydraulic massage chairs.

I strongly urge the management to reconsider their stance on this matter and to provide better communication with members about facility usage policies. A gym thrives on satisfied members, and experiences like this can deter loyalty and trust.

Staff is friendly. There are quite a few machines that are out of order and have been for weeks. Don't go when it's busy, people like like just sit on the machines and play on their phones all the time. Had to wait 10 minutes to use a machine because someone just sat there playing on their phone instead of working out. Very disappointing. Wanted to do the 30 minute workout area bit couldn't because every station was used with people using it as an area to rest and play on their phones. Even though there is a sign thar says staff monitor the area they don't. In the span of 3 hours I have not seen 1 staff member check. Staff is either worried about playing on their phones or socializing with themselves. Classes are lacking. I cant never make an appointment with a trainer because they are only available for like 2 hours a day. The gym is very basic in comparison to others I have visited. No cross fit, no cycling classes, no aerobics classes.

It was clean and the equipment was in working order. The resistance bands are kept at the front desk, so you'll need to ask a staff member for them. Also, the lighting is a bit low; kinda reminds me of mood lighting at a night club or romantic restaurant.

The shopping center in which it is located has the Amish Market; on days the market is open, parking and traffic can be a challenge. The intersection of 202 & 926 gets backed up during rush hour, so expect 5-10 minute delays

This gym does not have their Air conditioning on ever and when it’s really hot they say one AC UNIT is broken down and it’s scorching hot. I just read that it is Pa building code law that when cardio and weight lifting are taking place the building must be at least 65-70 degrees. Please fix your Air conditioning!

The machines are all super close together and most have the numbers on the weights scratched off. Most of the dumbbells are in an odd order than other Planet Fitness gyms, it always seems like either people are scrambling confused to get/put back weights or they just put them out of order. There are lots of knobs missing from the cable workout area as well. The staff are really nice and greet you upon arrival which usually helps me get in the workout mood. I feel this gym just needs a little extra TLC to compete with the wave of people who let themselves go during the pandemic (me included). Sorry Planet Fitness - West Chester staff but I can't give this 5 stars.

Get shredded on the cheap! West Chester PA is my home club. It’s a great place to get in and get it done. The location is convenient and parking is never an issue. I love having the Black Card as I often drive to nearby towns for work. When I have a gap between appointments, it’s great to hop in a nearby club, get a workout and shower, then head to the next appointment. It’s hard to beat the value.

I paid almost a year's worth of payments for 3 months of gym membership! Why did your system allow a credit card to be entered as a bank ABA number by a minor at the time the account was created??!! I visited Planet Fitness today to finish the membership process that I had bought through USAA. USAA has a program called active and fit for military. I have use this program in the past with absolutely no issues. I was greeted by Jill (who seem to not want to be bothered). She told me that she was very familiar with the program. I had already paid through USAA Active and fit program. I showed her the membership ID that I was given (once again, I have use this in the past with no issues). She try to charge me and tell me that I did not have a membership. The bottom line to this whole story is that Jill was extremely rude. There is a better way to treat customers. As I was leaving, I told her that she did not need to be so rude. I could not believe what happened next, she literally put both hands up in the air and flicked me off. In my 64 years of life I have never had that happen. I actually was a member here before the pandemic and was always treated with respect. I don’t know what happened to that staff, But this treatment of customers is not acceptable. I would never recommend this gym to anybody.

Overall - a good experience at this location. I rejoined since the Covid vaccines have been available. I have a Black Card. The TV's in the lounge still only display the PF logo and/or other images that are of no value. I have asked on three different occasions when the TV's will be hooked up. Responses have included "they're working on it" and "the cable boxes need to be re-installed." That said, there is no indication that any action is truly being taken. It doesn't take months to have cable boxes added to existing service at a commercial location. Come on....how about a little focus on your customers and the value that is supposed to be included with the Black Card?

Probably the worst PF I’ve been to. Unfortunately it’s the closest to where I live. Many many machines broken. Only one bike is working properly (1/5). Once something breaks, it stays broken. This is the third planet Fitness I've been to. For me it's relatively standard in terms of what I've come to expect from PF. Purple machines, more cardio than weights, solo workouts in the cardio area, more groups in the weight area (in other words, a lot of people who are not "social fitnessing" as the signs ask you to do). I wish there was a little more space between some of the machines and the weight area, I felt like people were a little too close together, but it might have been that there were a lot of packs of men in there at the same time.

It wasn't super clean - I'm pretty sure members are wiping down after use (at least, I am) but some of the machines had dirt and grime in crevices, which makes me question how thoroughly this gym is being cleaned. When I was in college there was a pink eye breakout amongst people who took the spin class - so I do keep high expectations for gym cleanliness. I'd use this gym but Im also spending time wiping stuff down, and when I have the time to, it's before and after machine use.

One of the reasons I opted for the black card was because I like being able to use the most convenient location and I really liked using the hydromassage at another gym after workouts. At the Malvern PF location, hydromassage beds are in their own private room. At this location, they are not. I didn't have the time to use them that day, but I didn't see any accessible spray bottles and paper towels. I also like to use the total body enhancement having read about the benefits of red light therapy prior to joining. This location has their machine in a private room which I was hoping meant that there would be cleaner and paper towels - nope. So while massage beds are used fully clothed and the total body enhancement is used at your comfort level - your hands should be the only thing to touch anything, I'm not sure how clean these are kept and they certainly haven't added cleaning supplies for members to wipe down if they like. (there is hand sanitizer though so that's something).

I did not use the tanning beds, but in walking back to the total body enhancement machine, I saw many rooms of lie - down tanning beds, no vertical ones.

This black card spa has to have the highest ratio of tanning beds to everything else that I've ever seen, so probably a great location if that's what you're going for.

Looks like Planet Fitness is going to be 24/5 instead of 24/7. This is Post Covid. They should probably decrease their monthly fee, since many people signed up thinking this was a 24/7 gym. The early closing on Friday thru the weekend just doesn't work for everybody.

I have been a member since PF opened in Westtown. Overall, it's a good gym. Not great. But, good enough. Equipment is good. I like the treadmills and the ellipticals....a lot!! But, they only have 2 of certain weight machines and they really need 2. Shouldn't have to wait 10-15 minutes to use a fly or tricep machine. Having 2 would help alleviate that. Hours were great before the Pandemic. But, therein lies the rub. Note that I am in the gym 3-4 nights a week around 9:30/10PM,and usually at least one afternoon during the weekend, around 5:30PM.

I understand why they cut hours back in June when they initially reopened after the first pandemic shutdown. And I understand why they kept them reduced through the end of the year. No problems with any of that. But, since they reopened on January 4, 2021, there is absolutely no excuse for closing at 10PM on Friday and 7PM on Saturdays and Sundays. They were open for 3 years 24/362. Now, all of a sudden, they can't even stay open till Midnight on a Friday and 8 or 9 on a Saturday and Sunday?

Gimmee a break!! It's all about keeping their staffing costs lowered and continuing to charge the same monthly fee. They make more that way. Open the hours up more, with a published plan on going back to 24/7, or remove the 24/7 notifications and quit advertising as a 24/7 gym. You clearly are not...and haven't been for well over a year.

I also don't understand exactly what the attendants are doing, other than standing around the desk area glued to their phones, talking to each other. and sometime greeting members when they come in and do a self checkin! I seldem see any of the attendants actually out circulating around the gym when I am there. During the duration of the pandemic, nobody, with the exception of Daniel, who works late evenings, showed any interest in asking the plethora of almost exclusively young members to wear their masks properly, or in some case to just wear a mask at all. I never saw anyone get approached during any of my times in the gym in the last year + and be asked to mask up, per the posted requirements, by anyone other than Daniel. Isn't that part of their current job description?

Speaking of Daniel, I want to commend him. The guy works his tail off cleaning on his shift. I very seldom see him behind the desk for more than 5 minutes at a time. But, I see him out on the floor vacuuming, wiping equipment down, filling spray bottles, replacing paper towel rolls, and cleaning up the mess members leave behind because they can't clean up after themselves. And, he's friendly to talk to and helpful if you need something. He's a good employee! I just wish more of the day attendants were actively out walking around the floor. Isn't that part of their job description.

I do enjoy the location of the gym. It's less than 5 minutes from my house. And, as I said early in this review, the equipment is good and the hours used to be great! They could be again, or at least much better, if management would look around and see that everything is opening up to more normal hours. Keep the mask policy for as long as you feel it's necessary and actually doing something productive. But, please open the hours up....NOW!

This is a great place to work out at. Great atmosphere, and great equipment. The only thing I have to say is I wish they were open 24/5 again. I work a day job so I only get to work out after work at night on the days they are 24 hours. Which is only 3 days out of the week. I don’t even always get to go on those days. More open days would be beneficial for both parties in my opinion.

My son and I are always greeted with a smile from the front desk staff and someone always says "goodbye and have a nice day." The gym is clean and we feel comfortable working out here. When we don't know how to use a piece of equipment, we always ask and someone always assists us.

Really a good gym. No problems there. But when quitting, we are having lots of problems. You can join online, but you have to quit in person. And then the first paper is lost, (happened twice) you get billed again. Then you have to go back and quit again. Really not a good experience.
3/17/21 Update - still paying for one of the two of us. How many times do we have to go there in person to quit?!

Finally got back today. It’s been over one year since I have been in because of COVID. I am a black card member and since I have gained at least 25 lbs this past year. I am so glad to be back. I felt safe because of the social distancing way you use equipment. Also noticed all members cleaning their stations when done. The staff is amazing with answering questions too. Thanks. Excited to get back.

Nice, clean and affordable gym. But their use of space for the building isn’t very good and weight machine to cardio machines ratio is unequal. I spend to much time waiting around to use weight machines. Could use more smith machines or benches.
