I don’t recommend this gym. The customer service is very poor, and the membership is too expensive for what they offer. There is no sauna, no pool, and nothing extra included, yet they still charge a high price.

When you first sign up, they hit you with almost $100 in fees, calling it an “enrollment” or “maintenance fee,” which feels unfair and not honest. On weekends (Saturday and Sunday), they close early, which makes it hard for people who work during the week to use the gym.

Overall, it’s not worth the money. You pay a lot but get very little in return.

I’m an often gym patron and usually encounter an employee similar to chat gpt… very sweet and willing to greet my guest and I every time we go… About a week ago i’ve experienced otherwise. There was a female employee with pigtails and an attitude. I’d like to note as someone with knowledge of hair that the pigtails are not symmetrical NOR proportional. Did not even acknowledge my existence first red flag… My guest and I waited for her to check in, still nothing she was just on her phone… second red flag. This not NOT okay. Chat GPT always is accommodating and welcoming and i’m not talking about the robot. I never got his name all these years. Great gym with friendly staff and the equally is always available when I go there. Best time to go is between 11 to 2 as it’s never crowded during these hours. The only reason it did not get 5 stars is because their monthly membership cost is much higher than planet fitness, but overall very fair compared to smaller gyms in this area.

It’s disappointing to see that this gym continues to engage in racially biased behavior and enforce double standards.

Employees on the morning and mid-morning shifts regularly bring their children into the facility, allowing them to stay in the backroom, behind the counter, or even on the gym floor. This location is not marketed as a gym with a childcare zone, nor is it equipped or advertised as such. This raises serious concerns about safety, professionalism, and fairness.

Unfortunately, management has repeatedly failed to address these issues, choosing instead to racially profile members while ignoring policy violations among staff. That’s not only unethical, it’s unacceptable.

Hold everyone to the same standards.

I have worked out at dozens of Retro fitness locations and I can honestly say that Stroudsburg is the worst of all of them. It is the only Retro that will not allow the clients to use the auxiliary rooms for stretching, pushups, sit-up etc. And they are quite nasty about it.
Also they are the only location that has no WiFi available. Year after year I inquired about the Wi-Fi and for the first couple years I was told it was coming "next month." Then I was told that the building was too large for Wi-Fi but they "tried."

I’m gonna keep it short and sweet. The managers will sign you up for a higher level than you ask for, WATCH FOR THIS! They get commission and will lie about it when you figure it out. The place is WAY too expensive. They allow patrons to work out in sunglasses and it makes my wife and daughter very uncomfortable bc…why else would you work out in sunglasses? I’ve asked them to stop allowing this but they ignore me. The staff is not very nice or helpful. People sit on the machines on their phones for 30+ minutes sometimes and won’t move and management does nothing.
As far as a gym? It meets my expectation. It’s alright.
It’s way too expensive, if you have another choice, take it. Don’t go here if you can avoid it.

I will say this about this gym. If your gonna squat at one of the racks near the deadlift platform I wouldn't squat facing the big mirror in front of the squat rack instead I'd squat wit my back turned towards the big mirror facing the entire gym as opposed to having your back turned to the entire inside of the gym bc some people there will look at your ass while your squatting the barbell with your back turned. Just a suggestion.

Update, this gym is still one of the gems in the area, a beacon of customer service with Annie and the other staffers keeping it clean, safe, and welcoming for the patrons. There is a lot of variety with spin class and other classes, personal trainers, and ways to relax after a workout with the Zen room. There's a whole room to work out while you watch movies. Also, the smoothie bar is top notch. Today I got a smoothie from Annie that sent me to heaven. The menu is great.

I’m unsure why the owner feels like in 2025 you don’t need phone service in your gym But I like my music so I went to the YMCA down the street. I get this gym doesn’t care because it has little competition but that’s about the change when the YMCA is done rebuilding, so I would start adding things to bring it more value, especially for the high price you charge.

The RetroFitness facility in Stroudsburg is well-equipped, well-maintained and well-managed.
But I would like to register a complaint. Every so often, I will come upon an exercise machine that has someone's personal item sitting on the machine or next to it, or hanging on it, but there's no one in the immediate vicinity of the machine. I assume someone forgot to take the item with them when they finished using the machine. So I will put the item aside and begin using the machine. A minute later, a person will come up to me and say that they were still using the machine and had intentionally left the item behind to "reserve" the machine in their absence. I don't think this should be allowed. No one should be able to monopolize a machine by placing a personal item on the machine to "reserve" it for themselves and then walk away to do something else. Once a person walks away from a machine, for whatever reason, it should be considered open for use by another person. I looked at the rules of the gym posted near the entrance of the facility, and there is no rule forbidding this practice. I suggest that the following rule be added to the rules list:
"Do not place personal items on or near an exercise machine to reserve it in your absence. Move your feet, lose your seat."

Billing Practices Need Improvement

I've encountered some challenges with their billing system that I believe could be improved. Recently, I was charged a $20 convenience fee due to a change in my payment method. Although the contract specifies a 10-day grace period for payments, I was charged this fee without prior notification when my payment method changed.

Despite updating my payment information within the grace period, the fee was still applied. While I understand that policies need to be followed, I had hoped for more flexibility or acknowledgment of the situation, especially since the payment was made in good faith and within the allowed timeframe.

It's unfortunate that there wasn't more consideration for these circumstances, as the long-term commitment of a 12-month contract already requires a strong customer relationship. I would appreciate it if Retro Fitness could revisit how they handle such cases to ensure a smoother experience for their members.

I’m very disappointed in the employees and the business structure of this place. Annie their manager is rude and unprofessional when trying to make her understand that we have been trying to cancel my daughters subscription for months now with emails and with no avail. However, this is not my first bad experience and why I cancelled mine in the first place. I should have never signed my daughter up hoping it would be different. They kept charging me membership during Covid, even though the gym was closed and could not be used. I paid over $500 monthly prior to Covid on personal training and membership fees that did nothing for me When cancelled after Covid it took me two times back then to do so. I won’t go into details on my first experience with them when they first opened. FFWD years later, I decide it’s been long enough let me give it another try. I call and speak to someone “Calley”? “Kaleigh”? “Kalab”? Couldn’t get the name right but spoke to her then called again minutes later. We confirm I can get a free 1 day pass, then I can sign up for a weekly pass $60 and if I like it (which why wouldn’t I right?) I can sign up for the Ultimate package which is what I wanted. This was ideal. So I thought! I drive out. Excited to reignite my fitness journey, only to be greeted by someone who says “Oh, mama, I have bad news. We don’t honor that here. We haven’t since the gym opened. You can purchase a 1 day pass for $10 and if you sign up immediately we’ll credit it to your account.” Thanks but no thanks! If you can’t honor what you claim on your website and what your staff tells people over the phone less than two hours before, then I’ll keep my $10, $60 and however many thousands I would’ve ended up spending on you.

I was looking for a water fountain everywhere and didn’t see any, proceeded to the register and the employee said they didn’t have any water fountains and directed me to the restroom to drink sink water. I looked at her, immediately I thought she must be joking. She said other customers drink sink water there all the time. Thankfully it is not my main gym, I was in the area and wanted to try it out. I don’t believe I will be going back there.

I lifted in the deadlift zone. The manager came over and said, “Excuse me. "Don't step on it here without saying, i said. This is a deadlift spot, and the manager has made normal people uncomfortable with his no manners. One more caution and I'll get your money back and cancel everything.

The worst customer service EVER! Don’t even bother signing up with them unless your commitment is for life because they won’t let you cancel it for anything. All the do is “pause” is and then randomly activate it again and charge your account over and over and threaten to take you to court even though you have tried to Cancel for literal years. Can’t write a letter that makes no difference. I hope they go bankrupt.

My trainer Alex is amazing. They have a clean facility as well as a huge assortment of equipment. Full service gym with a great atmosphere. Staff is very friendly.

Not only do they not take free day passes. They had no water fountain, and no sign letting people know after they pay to be there. I would not go back if this was the only gym In Pennsylvania. please save your money and go to planet fitness instead.

Bad experience went in around 6pm.
1. Very packed like nightclub packed but that's not the gyms fault.
2. Broken bathroom latch in mens bathroom
3. 3 empty sanitization sprays around the gym
4. Staff would not mix a preworkout for me because they can't use foreign substances on their shaker cups which is contradictory since they use diff powders on them all the time so I just gotta make sure I bring my shaker cup next time.

Would not recommend this gym to anyone should definetly go to the one in Marshall's creek less people and better service.

Visiting in town. The website says there is a free day pass for this location. That was not honored here, and I had to pay $10 for a day pass. No military discount option. This gym has no water fountain! It's so strange. They say the sink water is filtered. They had a front spin wheel where if you spend $20 or more, you can get a free spin. Bought 2 day passes and also couldn't play. Was told it was members only, although that detail was not written on the sign for it.

Retro fitness on 611 in Stroudsburg is great. The staff is always there to give advice and help. The facility has great hours and is always clean. They have a large number of machines which are always in great working condition. I use the treadmill and it's great. There membership price is great and they have a selection of memberships for different things you may want to add on.

Fix your water fountain. Its been out of order for years now.

Every other gym has one so Covid is not an excuse. You like trying to sell your customers over priced drinks?

Also going to this gym annoying because if you go there 3 or4 times and it’s not your home gym they switch it to make it your home gym and keep changing your sign in credentials. They do this even if it’s the beginning if that month and you work out at other gyms more towards the end of the month.

Nice, well equiped gym with free weights & cardio. Equipment isn't in the best condition but you can definitely get a great workout; it wasn't dirty, and all equipment is in working condition. I would rate higher but they offer a free pass online but when you get there they say that they dont participate, even though their website list their location and the email they send directs you to this location. The day pass is only $10 which isn't much at all but it feels deceptive to offer a free day pass when really its $10.

Edited because the response from the owner(?) implies I was confused about this deceptive offer. You can see from other reviews that they bait a "free" day pass but make you pay when you actually arrive. Again if it was advertised as only $10 to drop-in id be very happy. I would probably buy smoothies for my wife and in addition to the day pass but with they way they operate i don't recommend anyone spend their money here

What I love about the retro fitness experience in Stroudsburg, is it's not only providing a place to get healthy physically but also mentally. It has relaxation Through Massage options etc. It's just really a place to go and take care of yourself in many ways. And the staff is always positive and helpful in any way they can be.

I was a member of Retro the Stroudsburg location for over 6years. My favorite experience was training with Alex. He is skilled and a true professional. I suffer from severe scoliosis and he knew exactly how to work me out without over pushing me. I saw results in not just my physical appearance, but I had no back pain. I highly recommend him.
