The Saturday morning "gentle yoga and meditation" class with Shikha is the best. Her authentic warmth and caring makes everyone feel welcome and comfortable. Shikha shares her vast knowledge and expertise with us every time. This class is not about skill level, rather it reminds us to put ego aside. I always leave feeling rejuvenated yet calm. I have learned so much from her since I started attending 2 years ago. I highly recommend this class. Shikha is truly a teacher of yoga.

I've been a regular attendee of Shikah's Saturday gentle Yoga and Meditation over the past two years. It's become a fixture in my week and is an important part of my mental, physical, and spiritual health.
There are so many good things to say about Shikah's teaching, but I will try to keep this review to a reasonable length. The class is very accommodating to people with different levels of physical ability and people with injuries. She will always ask if there is anything going on with the class attendees and make adjustments to the class or modifications for individuals as she goes.
The class is truly gentle and approachable. I never feel unsafe in my postures, and Shikah always encourages us to just do what is available to us. But don't let "gentle" make you think you won't get a good workout. I think this was the biggest surprise to me early on. I remember a class where we were in our backs in the mat for the whole class, and I thought, "well, at least it's very relaxing" - but, reader, we got up at the end, and I could feel it in my muscle like I had just come from the gym! The real mystery and genius of Shikah's class is that I never feel like I'm struggling or striving, but through the practice she teaches, I am becoming ever more strong and secure in my body.
Another great thing about thejis class is that no two classes are alike - she feels the energy in the room, the weather, the time of year, and crafts a practice that suits those needs.
If you're looking for a space that can accept you and nourish you in mind, body, and spirit, I highly recommend this class. She also teaches a Monday night Zoom class that is great for me to recenter after a stressful day at work.

My wife and I had kind of a nightmare experience at this studio this weekend. We both have physical ailments of varying severity (I have lower back issues requiring surgery at one point, she has had multiple hip reconstructions). So, we specifically chose the gentle yoga and meditation class because it was something perfect for both of us and wouldn't push us too hard. I was in it for the meditation, she was in it for the stretching.
A lot went wrong in so many ways. To start, the instructor couldn't find my wife in the sign-up system. My wife and I ended up being the only two people in the class, which had us a bit nervous because you'd think a Saturday course at 10:30 a.m. would be pretty popular. Then the instructor shared she was a substitute for the main teacher, which made us even more nervous. And then the teacher really struggled to get her phone connected to the Bluetooth speaker. From there, things just went downhill fast.
There was no sort of mental or physical warm-up. We just sort of dove right into big stretching and big physical movements. We didn't share our physical ailments with the teacher (at least not at first) because we didn't think we'd needed to, being that this was supposed to be a gentle yoga course and we both had done those before at other studios without issues. But, things quickly became very physically demanding and abnormal for gentle yoga. We repeatedly kept moving between positions like warrior 1, warrior 2, humble warrior, plank, threading the needle, baby cobra, etc. Over and over again, the same positions on repeat and never ending. It honestly felt like the instructor was trying to make 15 minutes of movements stretch into a 75 minute course and didn't know how to do that other than making us repeat the same things over and over again. She was also following along to a sheet of paper and kept losing her place and then apologizing. It was all really frustrating.
About 25 minutes in, I started to get deeply concerned for my wife and her hip with all of the intense stretching and moving. About 40 minutes in, my own back was starting to reach its limit. These stretches were really pushing and challenging us both in bad ways. It was around that time that we both started to speak up. It started with me saying "I'm sorry, I guess I misinterpreted how difficult this course would be" and "we thought gentle yoga would be a lot less physically demanding." It was also around that time that we both shared with the teacher how the positions were pushing us too much, and we both shared our physical ailments. That seemed to throw the teacher off a lot and she seemed deeply flustered about how to adjust the course to something more in line with what we both were accustomed to with gentle yoga courses.
So, the teacher then shifted things to positions that were more floor based. But, with positions like "threading the needle" still being used heavily, it was just all still a bit too much. My wife just stopped because she couldn't take it any longer. She eventually put her glasses back on and at that point she discovered our course had run SIGNIFICANTLY over its time limit. The course was supposed to only be 75 minutes in length, but at that point we were at roughly 115 minutes. The instructor had no idea and couldn't believe what time it was. She thought it had only been roughly 20 minutes. So at that point I said "honestly, I'm ready to be done. It's okay, let's finish." So things just sort of abruptly ended and we got out of there quickly.
I'm deeply disappointed by this whole experience. I went into that excited to continue my gentle yoga experience and left never wanting to do yoga ever again. That was without a doubt NOT a gentle yoga class. The instructor was very clearly taking us through a yoga 2 routine and didn't know how to adjust it to what should have been a gentle yoga course. On top of everything else, there was no meditation. It was overall just a deeply disappointing and horrible experience.

I have attended Shikha's "Gentle Yoga and Meditation" classes as regularly as possible throughout the years. Her classes are so beautiful and informative. She is such an amazing teacher, and learning from her has been such a pleasure. I consistently leave her classes feeling abundantly more present, aware, cleansed, and overall refreshed. She has such a kind soul and I'm so grateful to have found her classes. I hope you find yourself trying one of them soon. One class will, without a doubt, change your mood and your life. Thank you Shikha🤍

So, picture this: I’m a driven entrepreneur, my brain is basically a hamster on caffeine, running on a wheel that never stops. Severe ADHD over here, and trust me, it’s chaos on a good day. Enter Schoolhouse Yoga—this magical, peaceful oasis where, for once in my life, everything slows down. I’m talking about a place where my brain actually takes a breather. Who knew that was even possible?
I wandered in one day, probably looking like I had no business being there, but man, am I glad I did. The atmosphere is so calm and accepting that even my overclocked mind feels like it can hit pause. And here’s the real game-changer: Shikha.
Her Gentle Yoga class has literally changed my life. No joke. That one class helped me find a peace I didn’t even know I was missing. Now I keep coming back, and each time, it feels like I’m unlocking some kind of superpower—calm.
I honestly believe that the impact I’m able to have on the world going forward will be a direct result of stumbling into Shikha’s class and sticking with it. If you’re like me—juggling a million things, never slowing down—take it from me: go to Schoolhouse Yoga. It might just change your life too.

Classes with Shikha are an essential part of my week. I always leave my class feeling uplifted, calm, centered and ready to handle life more peacefully. Shikha has an immense amount of knowledge and wisdom, and she seamlessly weaves it into her transformative classes. I truly have gained so much by being her student and I highly recommend her to everyone I meet.

I absolutely love this place. I've been going to the gentle yoga & meditation with Joni for a couple months and the class is excellent every time. The studio is clean as are the provided mats, blankets, etc. The tiered pricing is very reasonable, and I appreciate any place that also offers a free weekly class for the community. 10/10 Joni as an instructor. Her guided mediation and thoughtful class flow always leave me feeling peaceful and grounded.
