I've been training with Malcom for 1.5 years and can't recommend him enough. After going through a major surgery in 2019 and unable to work out for 3 years after that I knew I needed someone to start from scratch and help me stay motivated. Malcolm understood where I was and my needs and slowly but surely helped build me back up. I've practiced yoga prior to my surgery but have never had a personal trainer for strength training or weightlifting. Malcolm has been patient but also motivating to keep me progressing in this strength training journey and now I feel the best I've ever felt. I’ve been working out with Malcolm in a personal training setting for almost two years now and can’t say enough great things about it.

Before joining, my primary movement was yoga/running and I was looking to build strength training into my routine. I’ve gotten so much stronger and gained the confidence to try new lifting exercises that I wouldn’t have felt comfortable doing on my own. It also has really helped me avoid injuries in my yoga practice that I’ve experienced from hyper flexibility and the general repetition of yoga movements.

Malcolm is a fantastic personal trainer and overall great person - he keeps things challenging, motivating, and fun. I look forward to our sessions every week. And a nice bonus is that the gym itself is great, super clean and well-equipped - it’s a treat to workout there, especially compared to some of the other big name gyms in Philly. Run don’t walk!

I found Malcolm's gym during the pandemic. We worked together for a few years and only stopped this summer because I moved. I miss the sessions so much it would be the highlight of my week!! He puts in a lot of thought to tailor a great workout for each client and is super knowledgeable and nice. I've introduced other friends to the gym and we always have nothing but great things to say. I found out about SelfEmbodiment Fitness, and met Malcolm, immediately after I had a major abdominal surgery, with my entire abdomen and core muscles having literally been cut in half and sewn back together. I was starting from scratch after not being able to exercise for months. Malcolm is an expert on accountability, but also, he was flexible, and we we were able to focus on specific accountability practices that worked for me, and exclude the ones that didn't. Eventually, I progressed from remedial exercises to a full strength training program, and I am in better shape than I was before my injury and surgery. I highly working recommend working with Malcolm and others at SE Fitness.

SelfEmbodiment Fitness is truly the best personal training I've ever experienced!! I highly recommend.

I am an active mid-30s former collegiate athlete and was doing Barry's, SolidCore, HIIT classes, running to stay fit. I often felt burnt out, did not see results and prone to injuries which I would then take a few weeks off before starting up again. Even tried tried physical therapy. My sister recommended personal training with Malcolm and it has been a godsend.

Malcolm, my personal trainer, is not only an incredible trainer but just a joy to be around. He is funny, thoughtful, relaxed, easy to talk to you, and a master of his craft. He takes the time to understand you, your motivations, your goals, past experience, challenges and builds out a personalized plan with creative workouts.

We met twice a week and I genuinely looked forward to my sessions. I left feeling challenged, supported, stronger and not burnt out which was so important to me.

Personal training with Malcolm was a game changer. He is incredibly mindful of form and takes a methodical approach to strength training. You never rush through exercises, each set is done very intentionally and it pays off.

Physically, I am much stronger, more toned, have lost weight and am not in any pain. Mentally, I feel energized, empowered, and more confident. I am also so grateful to have met Malcolm, he is such an upstanding person.

As far as personal training goes, there isn't a better option in town. Self Embodiment offers an elevated personal training experience. The space is clean, motivating and plays great music. The personal trainers are a pleasure to work with and experts in their approach and execution. Upon signing up, you receive a gift bag and access to an app where you can track your meals, previous workouts completed in your sessions with instructional videos, # of reps and weight so you can track your progress or access workouts whenever. I cannot recommend Self Embodiment Personal Training enough.

I’ve been training with Malcolm for 8 months and it has been one of the best decisions I have made for my fitness goals! For 17 years I have tried different gyms, diets, methods, and fitness plans to get leaner, stronger, and more confident but found inconsistency and disappointment as a result.

I then decided to sign up for personal training with Malcolm and this is the first time in my life I am seeing real, consistent results with my fitness goals. In less than 3 months, I gained substantial muscle, and I went from 27% to 19% body fat –which by far exceeded my expectations! I learned how to do strength training movements I never thought I could possibly do; I now have more energy than I did a decade ago, and I am finding my posture is so much better.

Malcolm is very kind, personable and 100% invested in your goals. He listens to your needs from day one and creates a personalized plan that is both challenging and sustainable. Every training session is different and exciting; he incorporates movements you see done by professionals and always ensures safety and proper form.

Malcolm has also helped me so much with my nutrition. He provides insight into where I should tweak my food choices on a weekly basis based on my progress. What is great is that my nutrition plan he set up is doable long term. I am able to follow my nutrition plan despite having such a busy schedule. I’ve been able to get leaner without feeling hungry, which is great!

I also can’t thank Malcolm enough for how my inner confidence has changed since starting training. His positive attitude, outlook and approach to challenges has taught me how to positively embrace obstacles that come my way. I learned how to rest when I need to, but never to quit. Malcolm is the best trainer I've ever had, hands down!

Having trained for years in and out of different studios including personal training and group sessions, this is definitely the place to be. I really desired a 1 on 1 private training session early AM - and this was accommodated. The studio is in a great location, super clean, safe, and very personalized.

Everything I desired we targeted from day one. The biggest things for me outside of lifting heavy was stretching, meal prepping, and working out on my own outside of the studio. Malcolm held me accountable with the meal prep, taught basic stretches, and provided workouts that I could do at home or another gym that were a game changer for my daily routine.

I always felt encouraged even when it came to harder workouts - including days of in-body scans and heavy lifting. I never missed a session, and always left feeling better than when I walked in.

I started this class as a long distance runner looking to build strength and endurance. I've always been too anxious to go to a monthly gym and found that small classes work best for me. I take a HIT class weekly here and it’s great for people of all levels, and is a well rounded workout in one hour without feeling rushed. Turned 40 and had another kid on the way, so I decided to find a personal trainer in order to cement a workout routine and to hold myself accountable.

I have worked out with anther personal trainer in the past, but it was always the same routine over and over. I have now been working out with Erica for almost 1 year, and I'm completely satisfied with the experience. Not only is she just an overall great human, but she is also an excellent personal trainer. I love Self Embodiment. I’m that classic statistic of always signing up for gyms and never really going beyond the first month. I’ve been going to Erica now at Self Embodiment twice a week for nearly 3 months and have already seen a serious change in fitness and physique over that time. I’m super proud of how much stronger I’ve been feeling, and the way my body is changing, and even my family has been noticing over Facetime. I had done a few personal training sessions here and there at other various gyms, and in the past was turned off by big egos and macho grind energy which left me feeling totally taxed for the rest of the day. Erica has been amazing! She is so supportive and chill, and is able to intuitively sense when I want to be pushed further and when I’m at my limit. I leave every session feeling energetic and stronger. The exercises are also always full of variety so you never feel bored. The gym itself is awesome - fitted out with everything you'd ever need, and everything is very clean and constantly sterilized. It’s a private, non-intimidating atmosphere and there will ever only be 4 people max. (incl yourself) in there. Quite often you’ll even get the whole gym to yourself and your personal trainer, and you get to take over the sound system with whatever you want. I would definitely recommend Erica and Self Embodiment to anyone looking to get and stay fit!

My trainer, Erica Simpson, is REALLY tuned in to my goals and consistently tailors challenging workouts to those goals. She also doesn’t pull any punches, believing that I’m stronger than I think I am. And the coolest thing is, she’s right. I’m lifting and squatting more weight than I ever would have attempted before.

But more than anything, I genuinely FEEL stronger. I consistently do exercises that I could not have done one or two months ago. I’ve bench-pressed weights I never would have attempted. And I’ve pushed through difficult reps that I previously would have given up on.

I cannot recommend SelfEmbodiment Fitness highly enough.

Joining selfembodiment fitness is for sure one of the best decisions of my life!

I recently had a baby and contacted Malcolm right after getting my OB clearance at 6 weeks. To make it clear, I've never been athletic or made working out a priority! I was actually terrified of working out! But having 2 daughters is what really motivated me to make my health a priority and set a good example for them.

I have been working out 3 times a week for the past ~5 months and can honestly say I have never felt better in my life. I have more energy, I'm more focused and happier, I am also much more mindful of what I eat. And the cherry on top is that I am more confident in how I look now then before getting pregnant. Being a busy, working mom with a giant mental load, I really appreciate that I don't even have to think of when or what workouts I'll do, I just have to show up and everything is set. The workouts are challenging but really fun and never repetitive! I am doing workouts and lifting weights I thought I could never do!

The studio is also very clean and I love that it's only one client at a time. I was actually able to bring my daughters with me some days while training and staff were extremely nice about it and so accommodating.

Do yourself a favor and invest in this! I'm confident you won't find a better trainer! I love this place!

Before reaching out to Malcolm, I had fallen victim to lazy days during the pandemic and hadn’t intentionally moved my body on a regular basis for over a year. I was experiencing stomach pain and fatigue from a mindless diet that was not providing proper nutrients for my body and I just felt overall unwell.

I have been working out with Malcolm now for about 3 months and I am in the gym with him 3 x a week. No only have I started to see changes in my body but working out consistently has enhanced my mental health and helped me to be more mindful about what I am eating. I am no longer getting stomach aches from over eating or eating items low in nutrients on a regular basis.

Malcolm has been incredible as I told him from the jump that I have a history of disordered eating and he has always been supportive and helpful without making me feel like I needed to be problematic with my eating or triggered. In fact, I get to eat more now that I am eating more nutritious foods which has been really healing for me as I always used to think I needed to eat less less less to get to a certain body weight. Malcolm has definitely given me space to have balance in my meals without compromising progress on my fitness goals and now I know I actually need to fuel my body properly to keep getting stronger. The knowledge that Malcolm has provided, his empathy, patience, kind heart, and encouragement have made this a really positive experience for me.

I have worked with a number of personal trainers in the past and no one has handled my food history in such an informed and gentle way while also producing the results I was seeking.

Since working with Malcolm, I have cut down my alcohol intake significantly and increased my water consumption (all on my own accord). I am trying to eat more balanced meals and overall I just feel better fueling my body in the way in deserves.

For the first time I feel healthier overall, rather than being restrictive or controlling in an unsustainable way for myself. I am learning more about myself and fitness and nutrition since working with Malcolm and it’s been really fun too! I love being reminded of how strong and powerful my body is on a regular basis and as the weeks go on I keep lifting heavier and heavier weights which is motivating!

I can honestly say that Malcolm has been the best personal trainer I have ever worked with by a long shot. He makes exercise fun and also allows space for realistic progress which is so appreciated. He listens during times of struggle knowing that a healthier lifestyle takes work and is challenging, and he’s just overall a great trainer and person.

He keeps everything clean and tidy which I appreciate especially during this covid time. I've been training with him for the past two months. Having this exercise routine really helped me get through a very tough and stressful period of my life. I've been training with Malcolm for a couple months now and I love it! A lot of the exercises are completely new to me, but they are all amazing in that I feel sore in the right places every time. Malcolm is extremely supportive and personable that it motivates me to push hard during every lesson. I was absolutely thrilled with the personal training services offered by Malcolm at Self Embodiment. I came to him with an aching back from work and a need to do some gym activity to get me out of my winter funk. It was difficult to get motivated and I knew I needed assistance so I wouldn't injure my back. Malcolm knew exactly how to get me motivated from the first time meeting him. We went over my goals and I can honestly say I feel like I achieved most, if not all of them. During our personal training sessions I was able to do weights and movements I didn't think were possible. I ALWAYS left in a good mood, feeling accomplished and proud of myself. I felt so strong!
Malcolm was also great with nutrition guidance and helped me see some patterns in my eating habits that I did not recognize myself. (RIP cheese on everything). He gave me meal ideas and would check in with me in between workouts to see how I was holding up.

I have been working with Malcolm for 8 months now 2-3 days a week. I love that I get a good workout in but also don't end up overly sore that I can't even move the next day. In the 8 months, every session has been different, nothing is ever repetitive and it keeps me engaged more than if it was the same cycle of workouts but heavier weights. I knew he would be fantastic when I sat down with him for my consultation and he asked me what I needed from him in order to be successful and meet my goals. His workouts are challenging but effective. He knows when to increase weights to push me a little further without pushing me to far. If I fall off the eating healthy wagon, he helps me get right back on track. Malcom regularly checks in with me to see what my food for the week is going to be and is always happy to give suggestions. Malcolm at SelfEmbodiment is hands down the best personal trainer I’ve ever had. After recently moving to Philadelphia, I was on the hunt for a serious personal trainer who would help me meet my goals of losing weight and toning up and after much searching and reading reviews, I finally decided to do a consultation and, I am SO GLAD I found and chose to start working with Malcolm.

During my consultation I told him I wanted to lose weight and tone up. We created short term and long term goals together! Malcolm really listens to what you want, what you’re trying to achieve and is very motivating in an inspiring way (never makes you feel bad if you have a hiccup). His workouts are always challenging me and always making sure I have the right form. Malcolm is continuing to make my exercises more challenging and increasing weight to ensure I continue to make progress towards my goals. Before I met Malcolm, I felt like I couldn’t make the progress I wanted, but now I feel better daily.

In addition to fitness, he also provides great diet support and advice on tweaks to make eating wise to see more results. He even has an online app to track workouts, eating, weight, body measurements (to track inches lost). I am now training for Broad Street as well and he has been adjusting some of my exercises to help strengthen the right muscles and giving me running tips/advice. He is an all-around all-star personal trainer!

I feel so much better, toner and increased energy since starting with Malcolm a few months ago! Not only is he a great trainer, he is super nice and easy to talk to about all topics (travel, TV, sports etc.) helping the time go by faster!

I have always kept up with my fitness throughout the years. Some years better than others. I have had a few experiences with personal trainers, but my time spent with Malcolm trumps all others. After being sick on and off for many months, I decided to search for a trainer. I had mentioned to a friend that I was looking for someone to train with and she immediately pointed me to SelfEmbodiment with much enthusiasm.

My goals were simple, to get back into shape and look better than ever as I enter my mid-30s. I can say without a doubt, not only am I on the road to looking my best; I have never felt stronger and surprise myself every session when I complete something I never thought I could do. I highly recommend working out with Malcolm/SelfEmbodiment Fitness! I made the decision to invest in my health and find a personal trainer mainly for accountability. I wanted to get out of my cycle of joining a gym, only to never go and end up making “monthly donations” instead. Malcolm provided that accountability but I also gained so much more from working with him for a little over a year. Malcolm always took the time to listen to me, push and encourage me, and put up with my frequent complaints haha. I appreciated that Malcolm was so flexible with scheduling. I love to go to my personal training sessions with Malcolm at SelfEmbodiement. The hour flys by. I don’t feel like I’m struggling through a painful workout and I never dread going. I went to another personal trainer literally one block away for 6+ months with no results and no interest or progress reports from the personal trainer. AND they (the company) was literally the same price for only HALF the time.

I always feel like I worked out and ate healthy but never lost weight or looked any different. In less than 6 months with Malcolm, I look and feel different. I feel challenged and motivated all the time. My arms and shoulders actually look slimmer and much more defined. My stomach and core is flatter and stronger and my legs are toned and strong. I have an old knee injury that makes it difficult to do many lower body exercises and going to my personal training sessions I have increased my range of motion and strength in the bad leg. I don’t struggle nearly as much with the knee bending exercises. In addition to working hard in the sessions I also feel motivated to exercise more on my days off and most importantly - eat well. Malcolm always talks about diet (not dieting but your food choices) and I feel comfortable telling him what I eat even when it’s not the best thing for me because it’s become a rare thing. I look at foods differently now as to what is good to put in your body and what is not. That is lifelong knowledge that I will never forget.
I highly recommend Malcolm SelfEmbodiement personal training sessions to anyone that wants to get in shape and change their body. He is friendly and personable. He is also challenging and encouraging and even when I think I’m not going to be able to do that much weight or that many reps- somehow I make it through. And like I said- the hour flys by! Malcolm is awesome! I sought out a personal trainer after a busy stretch at work left me feeling lethargic and unhealthy. I intended to find someone for about a month to get me back on the right track. Not only did Malcolm do that, but I loved the program and accountability so much that I decided to continue training. Since starting personal training a few months ago, I've seen a noticeable increase in strength, lost 12 lbs, and decreased my body fat %. Better yet, I feel great and am motivated to keep at it.

Malcolm at SelfEmbodiment is the real deal. When I began working with Malcolm, I had limited knowledge of and confidence with weight training. After only a few months, I had developed a foundation of knowledge and confidence along with increases in strength that led me to sign up for another package. Malcolm went far far above and beyond my expectations. He really tailors the workouts to what I am looking for in terms of my physical fitness goals (I was also preparing for a dance performance with my former company and he really listened to that and crafted exercises that helped me get back in dancer shape). I hate Malcolm.......in a good way! I actually have a love-hate thing going on with Malcolm. I love that he is gentle and encouraging, yet firm and precise in training me. Having chosen him as my personal trainer because he epitomizes his dedication to fitness and clean eating, I hoped that he could help me master the art of climbing stairs at work without being out of breath. I have been working with Malcolm Pinder, Personal Trainer at Self-Embodiment, Philadelphia, PA for about 3 months now. I really wanted to lose weight and eat better. My eating habits worsened once I began my new job and I wanted to get back to eating healthier.
The only reservation I had is that Malcolm would be an intense trainer and force me to do exercises I was not comfortable with. Malcolm went over each exercise with me and ensured my form was good. Whenever I had questions about an exercise Malcolm went over them with me and ensure I mastered the exercises before the next time I went to the gym.

I really like the online app and that I am able to track my workouts, cardio, and weight. It’s great that I am able to see the difference since the time I started working with Malcolm until now. Malcolm is also always available when I have questions and he gives me honest feedback.

Three other benefits are: being able to talk to Malcolm through the app, Malcolm helped me work on my nutrition as well, and Malcolm also spoke to me about the importance of my water intake. I would recommend Malcolm to everyone I know! He wants to see you succeed and lose weight. He is also very personable and down to earth. I was not expecting that in a trainer. I’m glad I had the opportunity to work with Malcolm so far I have lost about 13lbs and counting. I have been working with Malcolm Pinder at SelfEmbodiment in Philadelphia, PA for over two years. Malcolm is the only personal trainer that I have met in the Philly area that has made it possible for me to attain all of my fitness goals. When I first came to him, I was overweight, completely out of shape and lacking the confidence that I needed to get in the gym and to get fit. Malcolm helped me by being right by my side throughout the entire process. When I began, I worked out one-on-one with Malcolm 4 days a week. He would text with me throughout the day to check in on how I was feeling, confirm our workout schedules and just help keep me motivated and engaged. He also mapped out my food plans with me and helped me overcome mulitple hurdles when I was plateauing with my weight loss. He was such a source of support and inspiriation! Malcolm also maintains the highest level of confidentiality and makes sure that your time with him is in a safe and respectful environment.

Over the last year, I have decided to take more accountability for my own workouts and have been completing my weight training in a more normal gym environment. However, I quickly felt lost and wasn't sure which training moves should be incorporated during my gym visits so that I was getting a solid full body workout. I reached out to Malcolm about my concerns and he provided a new solution to meet my needs. He and I now meet once a month and review my goals and hurdles that I need help overcoming. Malcolm designs custom online workouts that he posts through an app called Trainerize that I can access from any location and at anytime. Each workout is made just for me and is also accompanied with a video of Malcolm performing each move so that I can be sure of the proper form while I complete the same movements.

I can't say enough good things about Malcolm and SelfEmbodiment Fitness. I have referred over a half a dozen friends to him that have all had similar success under his guidance. I initially contacted Malcolm Pinder, SelfEmbodiment, Philadelphia Personal Trainer as I was looking to work on leg strength to overcome constant pulled muscles and to improve my quickness. In addition, I was looking to broaden my weight training skills. I had not used a personal trainer before so I was unsure if this was the best route. Malcolm understood what I was looking to accomplish and was very accommodative from a time standpoint. Since I have been working with Malcolm, my leg strength has improved and I have had no issues with muscle pulls. My overall strength and conditioning has also improved. Been working with Malcom through SE since this summer. Primarily doing total body strengthening. I found improvement in core and upper body strength as well overall endurance! Malcom has taught me new exercises, correct form and intensity which I never imagined that I'd be able to do! Very knowledgeable about biomechanics and muscle energy techniques. Overall, very satisfied with my experience and pleased with my fitness progress!
