Honestly the best personalized Pilates class in Pittsburgh.
I’ve been taking 1:1 sessions with Betty for about a year and a half, and it has been the most transformative experience for both my body and mind. She tailors every class to my needs, pays close attention to form, and always knows how to challenge me without making it overwhelming. I’ve gained strength, flexibility, and confidence—and I actually look forward to every session. If you’re looking for someone who is knowledgeable, caring, and genuinely invested in your progress, I couldn’t recommend Betty more highly.

This place is wonderful. I am not a workouty person and am very easily intimidated by stuff like this, but the teachers are welcoming and explain things clearly, the space is inviting, and the range of classes they offer are very cool (aerial yoga!!). You should try it if you're thinking about it.

I could not recommend this studio more! I worked with Stephanie T to coordinate a 2 hour aerial yoga and pilates event for my best friend's bachelorette party — we had a large group (16 women). From initial planning to our day in the studio, Stephanie and her team made sure everything went so smooth. For most of us, it was our first time doing aerial and using a reformer.

She and Betty were super knowledgeable and made sure everyone felt comfortable to go at their own speed. We enjoyed the juice shots at the end of class and really appreciated the surprise photographer that was there to capture our memories.

We're so grateful for Stephanie and Betty for the amazing experience! If you're looking for a fun bachelorette idea, birthday activity, or just want to try aerial yoga and/or pilates this studio is for you!

I'd always been curious to try Pilates and Aerial Yoga and SO enjoyed the joint session the instructors created for us. Both were challenging in their own way and I loved the mantra of walking out hopefully having learned something new about my body (and I definitely did!!). The facilities were pretty spacious for all that was packed in!

They hosted a group of 16 of us for my bachelorette party and we all had the most amazing time!!! They organized everything really well, we had a ton of fun and they were great at accommodating different experience levels! I would highly recommend for any group activity!!!

This place is fantastic. I’m so glad for the high quality classes and lovely community. I regularly take Pilates with Betty and Marygrace and am a huge fan. I also take one-on-ones with Betty and she’s taught me a lot about movement and muscles. I just took my first fascial fitness class with Steph and it was like an hour long muscle awareness massage in the best way. Every teacher there is great. I thank goodness it’s within walking distance of my house!! <3

Be aware of scheduling policy when booking in advance or at all. Frequent same day cancellations if you’re the only one registered or it’s required you upgrade to a private session 1-1 session. They mentioned it wasn’t often, but it happened to me in a row for an evening and mid-day class after purchasing an 5 intro group passes. Nice studio otherwise.

My friends and I did a group beginners aerial yoga class with Will and the whole experience was a 10/10. Will made us feel safe, comfortable and he was very accommodating. He was a phenomenal instructor and very patient. He had a very warm and inviting energy and he made our class extremely fun! The environment was very clean. I will definitely be back!

I had a big birthday last year and knew I had to do something to get my body moving and tuned up. But after many years of inactivity i wanted/needed somewhere welcoming in addition to being well equipped. From my 1st short assessment appointment at STHIEL PILATES with Betty I knew this place was the right place for me. The studio has a relaxed feeling but has everything you would want/need for Pilates. Betty is a great teacher, who balances her knowledge and experience with patience and understanding. I highly recommend Betty and STHIEL PILATES

Betty is an awesome instructor. She is a physical therapist and has a deep understanding of muscle groups and joint function, and how to strengthen and lengthen muscles and improve mobility. The variety of exercises she brings to Pilates instruction is extraordinary - every session is a unique collection of activities that are stimulating and challenging. She is often studying or conferring with other experts to expand her repertoire of offerings. My only concern for writing such a favorable review is that she will continue to grow in popularity, and I won't be able to get on her schedule!

My kids bought Pilates group classes for me at Sthiel Pilates for my birthday 2 years ago. It was one of the best presents I received.

Betty has been my personal trainer at Sthiel Pilates for the last year and a half. Her knowledge of the body being a Physical Therapist candidate has been a bonus in our sessions. She starts by asking me how I’m feeling and if there’s a particular part of my body that’s sore or feel weak, we work on that area. I’ve learned so much about my body, not only the big muscles but also the surrounding muscles and joints that support each other. I’ve gotten stronger, improved my balance, and flexibility thanks to Sthiel and Betty. The owner Stephanie is also warm, supportive and welcoming.

Highly recommend this place!!! 5star++ I cannot recommend Betty highly enough as a pilates instructor! She truly goes beyond typical pilates practice by tailoring each session to how you're feeling that day, both emotionally and physically. Her ability to personalize based on your mood and physical condition makes each session uniquely beneficial. I specifically wanted to fix my posture, gain muscle strength, and flexibility. As a beginner, I rarely had any experience with pilates. Since I was a complete beginner to pilates, she helped me go through the pilates poses step by step. Later, when I got used to the routines, she gave variations to the routines that was personalized to my needs.
She always checks my neck and shoulder condition, which is something that I wanted to work on. She encourages me to bring different pilates pose that I want to work on which has always been fun to try and experiment. I didn't know that I was capable of doing different pilates poses until I worked with Betty! :)

Betty is fantastic to talk to during sessions, which makes the whole experience even more enjoyable and relaxing. She is always prompt, timely and ready for the each class. If you're looking for a pilates experience that's personalized, caring, and professional, this is the place to go!!!

This was my first real pilates experience. The space was very clean and welcoming. The music and vibe were perfect! The instructor (betty) was really clear on her instructions. I obviously had a learning curve and wasn't going to do everything perfect. But Betty was able to make sure we never felt out of place or ending up doing repetitions with bad form. We were definitely taken care of. Started and ended right at the alotted time as well which is much harder then it seems! Sometimes helping new students takes a lot of time! Looking forward to taking more classes at this studio!

While I have only been to aerial yoga at this studio, I can promise that Will is THE BEST aerial yoga instructor in all of Pittsburgh. He has years and years of experience and can craft an experience that will work for anyone. He is kind, fun, and can modify any shape or exercise in the aerial silk to make it accessible and amazing. The atmosphere that Will creates is safe and playful, which is so important when you are considering testing your limits and trying new things!! Aerial yoga here is an awesome class with an amazing teacher ❤️

I have been attending private classes at Sthiel Pilates for the past year. Betty has been my instructor and she is the absolute best! I'd been searching for a reformer pilates facility with a strong focus on form as I know the benefits this has on the body. I’ve been struggling with lower back pain for years and I walked into sthiel pilates hoping to correct my posture. Betty immediately started to examine my body and quickly figured out the issue and what workouts she’ll incorporate to strengthen my core and glutes. I worked with Betty every week for months now and my lower back has improved so much, I barely feel the pain anymore. I could tell my body line started to change a couple months into the pilates classes, and my posture was getting better.
She tailors every workout to each person’s needs and it’s always different so I never got bored. I was looking for someone who actually cares about the students and Betty was it.
I always felt so welcomed everytime I walked into the studio and everyone is so nice. I highly recommend this studio for anyone looking to learn yoga or pilates with awesome instructors who care ❤️

SThiel Pilates offers classes not offered elsewhere in the area. The Anti-Gravity class is a fun workout and is done in a safe/supportive way. People of all ages and body types can enjoy and benefit. The Anti-Gravity class is very therapeutic and allows my spine to decompress and lengthen – the whole class is like one big body sigh, but with a core workout, strengthening/flexibility exercises, and fun. It's like yoga, Strech Lab, a trip to the chiropractor, pilates, and a massage, and more all in one class!

The owner/instructor is a real pro who has years of experience with anatomy, movement, alignment and fitness. Check out the other class offerings and instructors as well (pilates reformers, pilates mat, fascia fitness).

I was looking for a studio that would be small enough to offer a sense of community but large enough to have great facilities and classes. From the moment I walked into Sthiel, Steph made me feel comfortable (I was very nervous!) and welcomed. I appreciated the way she took me under her wing and developed a program for me without my needing to know much going in. I just showed up and placed myself in her hands. I've experienced great results with improving my core strength and mobility to address some lingering back issues; Steph has really helped me to understand how my body works and how to make simple but effective changes. I love this studio!

I LOVE this studio and its ego-free culture! The instructors are very knowledgeable and provide great guidance on proper body alignment. I've taken Reformer classes in-studio (pre Covid) and now virtual mat Pilates classes with/without props.

A long time yoga practitioner, I began supplementing my practice with Pilates 2 years ago and am amazed with the additional length, strength, balance and flexibility I've gained. Touted as one of the best low-impact exercises to last a lifetime, Pilates makes me look forward to aging :)

I have been going to the Ariel Yoga class here for a few months now and it is absolutely fabulous!
I feel so good after each class physically and mentally. I love feeling the progress I have made in each class I attend, and getting to try new and exciting things each time! Sthiel Pilates is my favorite place to exercise in Pittsburgh. All the classes are great, with lots of personal attention to make sure you are working correctly. And the benefits of anti-gravity are not like other types of exercise. It's challenging and lots of fun, you just have to try it!
