You should NEVER become a member here as they’re extremely predatory. This gym will tell you it’s easy to cancel then make it impossible.
My boyfriend got a membership here and we knew we would be moving in less than a year, but they ensured him in person that it would be easy to cancel anytime with a simple proof of the changed address.
So, a few months ago my bf and I moved out of Philly and we tried to cancel his membership. He sent them a copy of our new lease (which they listed as sufficient proof of changed address to cancel). Apparently the lease isn’t good enough, because they rejected it as proof of a change of address! We have been going back and forth with their abysmal customer service team, sending different documentation as attempts at proving that we moved across the state and they continue to charge him $51 per month. It has now been 3 months of trying, because we moved in August. At this point I want to contact a lawyer or cancel my credit card.
Just don’t do it. Join fitness works instead. I used to be a member there and I cancelled no questions asked when I moved, plus they have more amenities for cheaper. I’m convinced that if you died you would still be charged by Sweat Fitness. If you get injured and can’t work out? too bad. If you simply don’t want to have a gym membership here? You should have thought of that. Just. Don’t. It doesn’t matter if it’s the nicest gym in the city (it’s not). You’re going to want to cancel one day, and you won’t be able to.

What is going on with the gym contract? Trying to join a different gym on passyunk that isn’t city fitness but the shady contract situation sounds bizarre. If i can join this gym without the shady contract I would…
Edit: seeing your reply to Mary’s review that the shady contract is standard practice..it is not. I’ve been a member of countless gyms and worked at gyms myself and having an impossible contract is not normal for a gym.

Personal trainer visiting south philly here. I went to sweat a few times during my visit, I can’t say enough good things about it, if you just want a gym where you can bang out a workout without a scene? Flashing lights, and pounding music, you just want to go in, and workout. This is your place. There was no waiting for equipment. Plenty of dumbbells, kettlebells, barbells, and machines. A solid gym, no frills and no party. A gym. Period. Definitely looking forward to my next south Philly visit now that I know sweat is there!

The staff at this facility have been helpful and I enjoyed the gym, but Sweat Fitness and ABC fitness solutions have the worst cancellation policies I’ve encountered.
Before joining this gym I was hesitant because of reviews about how difficult canceling the membership is, but I was assured by the staff it wouldn’t be a problem and that it was an easy process.
I am moving cross country and have been trying for weeks to cancel. In order to begin the cancellation process, you have to call the gym at the right time to talk to the manager, who then contacts ABC Fitness Solutions, who then contact you... In order to cancel due to moving, you have to move at LEAST 25 miles away from any sweat facility, provide proof of your move via lease or utilities statement, and be charged a 10% administrative fee…
I have been a member of many gyms in my life and I’ve never experienced any contract this invasive or bizarre. I can’t imagine how difficult canceling the membership is in other circumstances. Asking for a copy of someone’s lease to cancel a membership is very strange.

The only good thing I can say is the actual gym employees are very nice. But dealing with Sweat's administrative side and billing company (ABC Fitness Solutions) has been an awful experience.
They have harassed me with robocalls for months after cancelling my membership and have ignored my legal request that all communication be done in writing.
I wouldn't suggest signing any contract with this gym if they continue working with this billing company.

At first I thought the billing issues were incompetence, but after actually dealing directly with the billing office (which seems like it was outsourced to the shadiest 3rd party they could find) its pretty clear this whole operation is a scam.
The contract will be presented to you on a screen the size of a business card, but I implore you to read it carefully. You will have an easier time walking away from your mortgage.

Bad experience. Signed up for a free 21 days pass. I went back to say I would not continue with the enrollment at the end of the 21 days. Apparently only the manager can do it and I have to go back to make sure they won’t enroll me against my will.
Process should be more transparent and easy for potential customers. Previews review confirm this type of behavior from management where they make it very difficult for you.
If it is a free 21days what’s so complicated to say I will not enroll after that period?

Do not under any circumstances sign up with this gym. I have been attempting to negotiate a cancellation for months and have had my buyout fee balloon from 200 dollars to nearly 500 dollars, IN ADDITION to several hundred dollars of further penalties after a three month freeze where I was told payments would stop and monthly fees would only be 5 dollars. The gym has been completely incapable of helping me as the company is outsourced. Absolutely insane behavior and completely unethical approach to billing. Avoid!

Good Gym, small but comfortable if you become a regular. Its really only busy the first few days of the week, afterwords its basically 5-6 people in there. Be warned - they have an overly complicated cancellation policy, hence the 2 stars. The front desk worker couldn't cancel my membership, I had to wait for the manager to come in and call me. Two days later he called and gave me an email address and an account number, saying I had to email them a reason as to why im cancelling my membership... It took them a week to get back to me, and then charged me for the next three months even though the front desk guy told me I wouldn't be charged anything extra. They then tried to charge me twice in one month thinking I wouldn't notice.
I definitely will not register with this company in the future. Scummy business practice. Shame because I really enjoyed going for the 3+ years I lived in this area.

I love this gym. I retuned to Sweat after being a member at another local gym. I was tired of the “scene” and the endless reasons the other gym was raising membership fees. I looked at TONS of options before returning to Sweat and I’m glad I made the choice to come back.
The equipment is what anyone needs, it’s never over crowded, there’s no “scene”, and the staff is friendly. It’s a *true* neighborhood gym.
If you’re looking to weight train- Spencer is great trainer. He is focused on form, has a great personality and encourages me to push myself.

Avoid this gym. They will not let you cancel your membership, no matter how many times you notify them. Had to change my credit card just to stop payments.

Would advise anyone looking for a gym to avoid joining. Not only is the equipment and environment unclean the business itself is a scam. When trying to cancel my monthly membership to join a better gym I was told I can't without paying over 400 dollars in a "buy out option." The companies customer service is horrible and only accessible through email and the gym managers have been no help at all. This place has no heart. Support a local gym or stick with planned fitness.

Been going here since I first moved to the city in October 2018. I find the price is fair for the space and equipment, as I don't need anything fancy. Would be nice if they did a good, deep clean of all equipment once and a while. I haven't done any of the classes offered but they appear to be pretty basic. My biggest issue is their short weekend hours; I'd love to get a workout in on a Saturday or Sunday night.

Not worth the price of membership, equipment is lacking and often in disrepair, just stick with planet fitness. felt like I should write a review since so many were negative! I dragged my feet on ending my membership (due to moving north) because honestly, I loved my routine here! And everyone on staff was a gem!
It's definitely a smaller gym, but I'm not an intense work-outter so it was fine.
Anytime a piece of equipment I used needed fixing, it would be fixed within a few days.
Personally I think they could use the upstairs a biiiit more efficiently and take away a few treadmills/ellipticals/stairmasters to get more machines in, b/c there were a few I missed from the old Sweat (Queen Village).
But overall I was quite happy with it, and it never felt crowded.
I didn't love the random $60 fee (I think that was the amount?) that was to help pay for random upkeep/updating the old-ness of the building etc ( I think they said that) - to me that's just overhead for your business I'm not responsible for it - just include it in the monthly bill. But whatever. I will say it got better (air conditioning!) after they got NEW management last fall, so at least the $$ was put to good use!!
The new management also extended hours, which was nice! It made it so much easier to go later at night.
Ending my membership was easy and took a single phone call and an email to start the 60-day clock.
Goodbye soon, Sweat! :'(

I had very mixed emotions when I first toured and signed up for this gym. The equipment was dated and a few of the devices were in need of repair. The free weights were sparse, only having one flat bench and one deadlifting platform. During the summer months, the gym was always 80+ degrees due to poor insulation. I was ok with this gym because it was significantly cheaper than City Fitness and the staff seemed friendly enough.
However, all my feelings changed for the worse when I tried to cancel my membership. They are trying to charge me over $110 in cancellation fees even though I gave them ample warning and I had received emails saying it would only be a fraction of the cost. I tried to work with the manager, Stedelman(?), but he refused to budge on the fees. I am very disappointed at this gym especially since I thought they were friendly people.

I had called and emailed numerous times to freeze my membership and even spoke with the manager directly and still got charged for a new month. now apparently theres no option for a refund and i have to jump through hoops to get my account canceled starting next month. not worth it for a gym with basically the bare minimum features. also, cant speak for all the fitness classes offered, but the yoga class was terrible. i wouldnt recommend it

I’ve emailed over and over trying to get help canceling my and my boyfriend’s memberships, and they won’t respond, and have continued to charge us. We stopped going because there was no air conditioning in the summer and we couldn’t handle working out in 95°F temperatures. I emailed & messaged on Instagram asking if there were locations with AC, they never responded, so I started trying to cancel. I’m going to have to dispute the transaction with my bank soon.

I was a member for 4 years but recently they closed the nearby locations so this gym became extremely overcrowded and the already constantly breaking, unsafe equipment just got worse. When I attempted to cancel, I was informed of a 90 day notice policy so I would continue to be charged for 3 months after cancelation. I did not sign any documents when I joined this gym, let alone something agreeing to this. Now, 4 months later I am still being charged so I contacted the club who told me to contact their third party billing service, ABC Financial. When I contacted them, I was told they have no record of a cancellation request and they have a 60 day cancellation policy. This brings the total to 5 months of payment for a club I will never be attending again. DO NOT get a membership as this gym is a total scam. It is overcrowded with constantly broken machines and a membership that apparently can’t be canceled.
UPDATE:
Just was informed by one of their employees that “a lot of members attempting to cancel are going through this so please don’t think you’re alone in this” so apparently they have one kind, honest staff member and a really corrupt corporate system.

I enjoyed my visit at Sweat Fitness. I toured the Queen Village location, @700 Passyunk Avenue, Phila, PA 19147 and I just parked outside the location at 1509 E. Passyunk Avenue, Phila. PA 19147. My tour guide was Club Director, Mr. Tyler Hankinson. Expert he was and very friendly and accommodating. We shared a common interest in fitness and I know his uncle from my church. What a small world we live in? It is so nice to visit a gym besides Planet Fitness. Yes I can see myself working out here. However, it is more convenient for me at Planet Fitness. They open at midnight. Sweat Fitness opens at 6 am. By 6 am, I have showered and I am on my way to WAWA, by then to get my oatmeal with raisins. The parking, however at the Queen Village location is not accessible. It is extremely difficult to find a parking space. I was blessed to find a space, it was around 12 noon on the corner of Passyunk. Thank God, I did not receive a ticket. I should have engaged my Meter app and I wouldn't have had to worry about that. I will be back and another shout out to Mr. Tyler Hankinson.

Signed up for the $99 summer special, and was told up front that my account would not be auto-debited at the end of this period and was also given the impression that I was only a member until September 1 ( I had specifically asked these questions to avoid the following scenario). This is not the case it turns out, I was locked into a 12 month contract after the summer period. I was then charged $100 to cancel this membership I did not really agree to, and also charged $50 for September membership, even though I did not request this either. Read the contract you sign because it's not consistent to the verbal answers you will be receiving during the initial tour.
I went straight to Fitness Works on 7th and Reed and paid cash for 1 year at $429, no shady contract needed. This place has twice the space and amenities. They also gave me a t shirt and Phillies tickets and were very welcoming to their newest new member.

Don’t sign up for this gym if you plan on ever canceling your membership. They use this “service” called abcfinancial to manage their automatic payments and you have to go through that to cancel. I had called in January to cancel my wife and I’s membership for April. I was told it would cancel and to just send an email to confirm so I did. Then lo and behold I still was getting automatically deducted 45 bucks a month (which is an insane price for a gym with a single bench press) here it is in July and they are still trying to charge me. I called abcfinancial and spent an hour on the phone just to be told that they can’t backdate my cancellation to when it was originally supposed to occur because I had sent them the cancellation email too EARLY. You apparently need to request cancellation within 60 days of your contract end date or it just doesn’t count and they keep billing. Or so they claim. they still were able to cancel my membership but not my wife’s when we canceled at the exact same time and on the same phone call and email even. And they’re trying to say I owe 109 bucks still. So yeah, reporting this as fraud to my bank since I clearly should have been stopped getting billed in April for both accounts instead of just one. I’ve dealt with difficult cancellations with gyms before but this is a whole new level and really ought to be considered illegal.

DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM!
It is impossible to cancel. After over a year of going through the cancellation process, they continued to charge my card. I went in person and was told my membership would last another 60 days per the contract. Charges continued into month 3 and 4. I went back in, and was given the run around. I called to have my membership cancelled. Again, I was told it would be another 60 days. Ok, whatever. 90 more days pass and I was still being charged. I then repeated the cancellation process of a 3rd time. This time when I noticed the charges on my account, I cancelled my credit card, and filed a fraud report. Now I am being hounded by debt collectors for the 5 months they continued to charge me.
THIS IS NOT HOW YOU RUN A FAIR BUSINESS.

If you want a gym with equipment that is always broken, overpriced, has zero amenities, and only 1 bench press, this is the gym for you. I mean more specifically the south philly gym. It’s a complete joke of a “gym” that has equipment that is terriblly outdated. Worst gym I’ve ever been to, and I’m not being dramatic....funny enough I saw a review from a year ago where someone asked for another flat bench and there’s still only one lol THIS PLACE IS A JOKE

I had to update my original review:
DO NOT BUY THEIR TRAINING PACKAGES!! They don't have the staff to support the amount of training packages they con people into buying, and they do not vet the trainers they hire.
I spent $1200 on a training package and they gave me a trainer without a phone, no way of contacting him - no cell phone, no land line. I could not get a hold of him to change or make appt's, he could only contact me.
I called the gym to ask to leave a message for him and they had no idea who my trainer was and had never heard of him. I can only imagine why this 40 year old man did not have either a cell phone or a land line. I said this won't work because I travel for work and will need to be able to reschedule appts and text my trainer. The new trainer contacted me and asked if I could train out of the queens village location, instead of my gym, since that was where he worked. I said no and called my gym to finally ask for a refund.
They gave me the run-around about a refund. I waited two months for it and the "VP of Training" was ignoring my calls and texts about refunding me, and when he did speak to me, he raised his voice and constantly talked over me and argued. The front desk manager will do whatever the trainers tell her to do, and all they do is make bad, unprofessional decisions.
Meanwhile, the original trainer they gave me with no phone, was emailing and calling me from different numbers for three months after, and pretended like he hadn't been let go, asking me when we could train again. I had to keep telling him that he should contact his boss at sweat so he can be updated on the situation. It was really scary.
Contacting anyone that would do anything to help me was impossible. The owner Tracy is impossible to reach. I had to file a complaint and case with American Express who gave me the refund. A week after I did that, I magically got an email from some other guy named Mike who said he 'would be happy to issue a refund and was there anything else he could help me with?' Too little, too late. We ended up canceling our memberships to the gym out of disgust.
This was the second time I bought a training package from this gym where I was unable to use all my sessions due to staffing issues. The first time I bought one, the manager who started with me quit after two weeks, then a young girl came on to manage and train and she constantly canceled and rescheduled appts until she finally quit, too. I finally gave up. It's hard enough to motivate yourself to do training as it is, without all this turnover and grief.
Do not go here, and whatever you do, do not let the guy con you into buying a training package. He spends more time talking, schmoozing and selling, than training his actual clients. Its clear they don't pay their trainers enough here, otherwise they would have more professional, mature, seasoned trainers to train you. This place is an absolute disgrace.
------------------------------------------
Decent gym but the ellipticals and treadmills and heart monitoring equipment is always broken, despite repeatedly asking them to fix it since June of 2016. I'm going to have to rethink my membership if they don't care to maintain their equipment and ignore member complaints.
