About the Club

Totem Training and Performance was founded in 2023 by two physical therapists and a strength coach looking to revolutionize healthcare and bridge the gap between physical therapy and strength training. They were fed up with the traditional healthcare model and being chained to the restrictions placed on them and their clients by insurance companies. Totem Training and Performance was established on the idea that our clients deserve more. They wanted to not only improve base level function, but to also optimize human performance and create improvement through movement. Founded with a clear vision and a passion for unlocking human potential, Totem Training and Performance has become a trusted partner for those seeking to surpass their limits.

I reached out to Totem Training and Performance for help with a complex, chronic shoulder issue that was gradually worsening, hoping it would allow me to continue training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu without severe pain — and I’m really glad I trusted my intuition. I had already worked with two physical therapists without much success, so this felt like a last-ditch effort, and honestly, I was skeptical anything could truly help.

I was proven wrong.
Tyler is an incredibly thorough and knowledgeable physical therapist, and the results speak for themselves. He’s especially skilled at integrating rehab exercises directly into your weight lifting sessions, making the therapy practical and highly effective for athletes.

What sets Totem apart, I believe, is their business model. You get focused, one-on-one sessions where every rep is watched, coached, and adjusted as needed. It’s nothing like the typical PT clinic, where therapists juggle multiple patients at once or rush through exercises without proper sequencing.

Totem provided the reset I needed to train for longevity. I was frustrated, with over a year of nagging neck pain, limited mobility, and nerve symptoms down my arm. I loved the intensity of HIIT group fitness classes but the movements seemed to make things worse. Tyler got to the root cause of the issue in our first session! The continuum of physical therapy into personal training provided a way for us to find the right modalities, movements, and loads to get me pain free within a month. As mentioned by many others,  this group not only provides a great space to work out, and knowledgeable staff, but the environment which they have created is very unique.
Before and after my training, I was always introduced to whomever was training before and after me, as well as anyone within our workout space. It helps create a friendly and welcoming environment for all.

I personally worked with Liam who is amazing. He taught me so many stretching techniques , and has such a vast array of exercises to blend into the mix, things never get old.
He is also up on his nutrition game, breathing techniques, and super knowledge in the area of supplements, and minerals.

I have nothing but positive things to say about Totem Training. For years, I have been struggling with joint pain that was becoming worse the more time I spent trying to work out (running and lifting). I had seen doctors for it, with very little help on resolving the issues. Someone recommended to me that I talk to Tyler so I reached out. Not only did he get back to me quickly, he spent a good portion of time answering all my questions. For the first time in about a year, I had some sense of relief on the issues I was experiencing. Their model of rehab back to training is great and more places should be implementing that. About a month in now, and I couldn't be more thankful. Not only do I not have to give up the things I love, but I am feeling less pain in my joints and feeling more confident in getting back to doing the things I love. I booked a Movement Evaluation with Tyler for hip pain that I’ve been experiencing for years. He was very thorough and informative and helped me understand what was causing the pain. I’ve been implementing the mobility exercises he recommended for the past couple of weeks and they have been extremely helpful! I’ve also had a great experience training with Liam. I’ve worked with Tyler since January to build strength and mobility. His workout plans have a solid mix of variety and consistency, so I’m never bored. I’ve been working with Tyler for over a year and his personalized training program has helped me tremendously. I had ACL surgery in March of 2023, and within one year, I was able to fully return to MMA and win my debut fight. The one-on-one programming Totem provides fits the athlete, not the other way around. The constant feedback cycle really allows me to dial in my training regiment, especially leading up to competition. I am so impressed with my experience with Totem Performance and in particular with Tyler Boyd. I had been through PT for 6 weeks at another site and I was very disappointed as I felt like just another number- and I did not see improvement. After just four weeks with Tyler, I am already seeing improvement; less pain, more mobility and I’m able to keep up with my swimming competition. I've been to other gyms and taken Muay Thai classes before. Really, all of those other gyms are pretty much the same. You do the same mundane classes every day, and never really improve personally.
Totem is not like those gyms.
If you want to learn an authentic Muay Thai fighting style and be able to completely dominate in the clinch, you need to come to Totem Muay Thai! . All classes are structured and focused on advancing specific fundamentals that will elevate your fighting game to new levels. Liam and Shane's knowledge is evident within the first few minutes of being with them. They see each person they train as an individual and they focus on modifying both your strengths and weaknesses to improve you as a fighter. If you are a beginner just starting out or you are an experienced Muay Thai fighter, each class you come to will continue to elevate your skill set. You will not be wasting your time here. This is not your typically cookie cutter Muay Thai class. I will always train with Totem Muay Thai!!

Starting muay thai at 33, i was worried that id be getting the crap kicked out of me by people who had trained for years or that the training would be too soft and directed towards kids. But Totem MT gives you about 4 hours of personalized instruction over 8 lessons to hammer in the basics before teaching how to hold and hit pads with others.

Once you get to that point, and If you practice the fundamentals at home, your speed and fluidity soar. Getting to strike hand held pads over bags really fills in the blanks as far as movement goes. Not to mention joining the team on the mat feels like an achievement.

The instructors know this and their patience and commitment to your safety and the safety of other fighters is paramount.

Additionally, there is extra gear to use until you make the decision to fully commit to the gym. Not to mention the community and atmosphere is something i personally have been blown away by.

If you are west of the rivers, you wont find a more convenient location to learn and grow skills in a martial art.

The Totem team has been an incredible group to learn from. In less than 1 month I have felt improvements in my lower body injuries and pains from implementing a few movements that Gage taught me.

In following up with the team, Gage and Liam spent time assessing my upper body movement patterns to help me improve my bench press. They explained how my movement patterns were off and why each exercise we were practicing was going to help improve those patterns - leading me to move through a bench press pain free for the first time in years, in just 1 hour.

I am excited to continue to implement the movements and techniques taught by the Totem team and could not recommend them any more highly!

Seeing a chiro, massage therapist, physical therapist, or trainer are all great on their own, but often do not typically solve the problem - they provide temporary relief. Gage & Tyler went through a very intensive physical screening before making any recommendations or creating a rehab plan so they could see exactly what was wrong with me. I haven't felt this good since college! The Ascension program really went above and beyond my expectations. Even though I've regularly went to the gym after graduating, I struggled to organize a schedule that would hit all of the areas I wanted to work on and maintain. Thankfully, Totem has taken care of that for me and I have had a significant improvement to both my strength and conditioning as a result of this training program.

Regardless of where you're starting from, I promise you will learn a wealth of information from these programs. Great transformations come from one small step at a time - and Totem Training legit breaks it down step by step. If you've struggled following other programs, or haven't seen the success that was advertised, I think you will be really surprised from the results these guys deliver (just remember, the program only works if you do; efforts=results)

I've been following the Forge program through Totem, and it's the kind of routine and workouts that I've been looking for and needing for some time. Started with the Fundamental's Program and it was the perfect springboard into the accession program. As a former D1 athlete who’s been through the gambit of training methodologies, Totem goes above and beyond what I expected. Currently I’m an active police officer and practice jiujitsu. The program Gage made me perfect supplements my work and training and HS made me stronger, more mobile, and much more balanced than I’ve felt in a long time.

Totem Training and Performance not only met my expectations, but exceeded them tremendously. I've struggled with neck, back, and shoulder pain from scoliosis, which has hindered my workouts for years. Tyler was incredibly thorough during my movement consultation to see which specific muscle groups I need to work on to increase strength and mobility, and prevent injury during workouts. I have never had such an attentive and educational assessment as I did with Totem Training and Performance.

Totem Training is the first online training series I’ve done and can not be more pleased with the results. In just four weeks I’ve seen a huge difference with my strength and energy levels. The simple to follow workout plans to do at home or gym are great regardless of fitness ability. I especially love the video’s explaining each move.
