Goat yoga was so much fun today! It was such a great experience to center myself whole surrounded by adorable baby goats. Was it a bit chaotic at times lol, yes but so is life! I think if you're into yoga and animals this is a must do experience.

I had a disappointing experience with Water and Rock. From the start, there seemed to be a lack of continuity—details from the intake call and follow-up sessions were often forgotten, which made each meeting feel like starting from scratch. The workout plans felt improvised, and one session even took place while the trainer was on a call in his car.
The scheduling was also very limited, which can be challenging for working parents. Over the course of three sessions, I received a few Tabata workouts and breathing exercises. While that may work for some, I had clearly asked for a structured program with a detailed workout and meal plan—something I expected as a former college athlete accustomed to executing on well-defined routines. Unfortunately, that structure never materialized.
When I chose to end the program, I was informed of a no-cancellation policy and charged a substantial fee due to a discount I had received. I had signed up for a six-month commitment, which made the experience even more frustrating.
I’ve also requested deletion of my personal data, which has not been confirmed to date. Based on other reviews, I believe critical feedback isn’t always welcomed, and I was contacted with legal language after sharing my concerns. That felt more like an attempt to discourage honest feedback than a genuine effort to resolve the issue.

I would 10000% recommend Suzanne and the Water and Rock Trauma Informed Kids Yoga Teacher training to anyone pursuing their RCYT certification or working with kids regularly. I found this training after searching for a virtual self-study option, and it exceeded all my expectations! As a current yoga teacher, I’ve noticed a huge shift in my teaching style—incorporating more empowerment-based language and structure into my classes—thanks to Suzanne's thoughtful curriculum.
The training was exceptionally well-organized, and Suzanne’s warmth and constructive feedback made the experience so impactful. It’s clear she genuinely cares about her students and the quality of this offering. I now have hundreds of resources to draw from, and my life is genuinely better after this training. I can’t wait to continue sharing what I’ve learned to help kids develop self-management and emotional regulation skills—all while having fun.
I’m also excited to expand my teaching to include private kids' lessons, studio classes, and events in my community, starting with a bookstore and a festival later this year.
If you’re on the fence, don’t hesitate—this training is a life-changer! This certification would not have been the same without Suzanne’s trauma informed approach and experience. I am a better teacher and student in life and yoga because of Suzanne. 🤍

I participated in Water and Rock Studio's 95-hour yoga teacher training course, and without a doubt it was such a positive and beneficial experience for me. Edited because owner threatened to sue me over false statements in my previous review (fyi I just said I was disappointed that instructors were leaving, clients weren't getting notified about instructors leaving and I couldn't cancel my contract without paying them a sum of money that wasn't stated in my contract). I think that's pretty much all you need to know about this place.

Read the negative reviews. I signed up for 6 months but found the schedule to be so limited that it was a waste of money for me. I've had billing issues and overall negative experience. I would not recommend this studio. There are many great studios with better schedules and better customer service.
I got a email that my contract was up for renewal 14 days before the renewal date. I immediately responded that I didn't want to renew. I was subsequently billed, and when I pointed out the error, I was told that you have to cancel 30 days before the renewal date or the contract is auto renewed for another 6 months. Since I signed the contract 6 months ago, I only remember that the contract would terminate after 6 months, and not the fine print. I have dealt with other businesses with auto renewal feature and if I forgot to cancel autorenew and told them right away, they would cancel the contract. Most businesses don't force you to pay for service that has no value to you. They did offer me a sleazy option of getting out of the contract by paying 3 months worth with no yoga classes. This business cares more about its cash flow that customers.
If I do get to a class (since I have to pay anyway) I will share my experience with the other students so they can avoid this experience.

Summary: Not customer-service oriented, does not respond to email, call text, do not ever make a error booking with them because they do not care to fix it.
--|
While the experience and service provided was great, I have the unfortunate experience to work with their scheduling/owner, Japeth Brubaker.
I accidentally booked the incorrect class (Purchased on 5/29 for 6/8 Yoga) I immediately emailed them (2 minutes after receiving confirmation in my email) asking to move the class to the correct class (6/9 Yoga).
No response.
I called twice to follow-up. No response.
I went ahead and booked the other class (Purchased on 6/3 for 6/9 Yoga) to ensure I could attend with my friend. I continued to request some type of response on the matter.
I *finally* received an email on 6/9 stating: we want to help please text or call for fastest response: ###-###-#### | Please note this is after after the yoga class I participated in.
I responded and did not hear back til 6/11 and they texted through what happened to clarify. Then nothing. I followed up. Nothing.
6/18 - I received "Please see our refund policy and call if any questions."
1. Your website does not list a refund policy. Only the booking process (third party scheduling/payment site) indicates no refunds. 2. No one would respond to me even if I text, called, email. We are now 9 days after the yoga.
6/19 - The sent me a long text indicating that it was my fault for the error on the booking website. WHICH IT WAS. But I did everything in my power to adjust the booking to free up the space in advance.
This is not a customer-oriented organization. I would suggest considering another option.

I have been attending the yoga classes at Water & Rock and thoroughly enjoying them! Jamie's vinyasa flow class gets my heart rate up, while at the same time offering some serious stress relief and relaxation on Thursday nights. Having private training classes in the mornings here were especially lovely with the sun rising from their giant windows facing the garden. Also really love the yoga teacher Jaime, she is sweet, kind and patient. And she does aromatherapy and hands on adjustments which I truly appreciated.

Water and Rock Studio ROCKS! In all seriousness. Without the help of Japheth and Suzanne I would not be on my way to health. Indeed, their personalized integrated approach to wellness, health, and fitness certainly works from the inside out. And perhaps, this metaphor of "inside out" describes the underlying principles of the Water and Rock approach to a fit lifestyle and wellness. I cannot say enough. Here are the facts: I am a 60-year old professional who works hard. A year ago, I was at 210 pounds, at 39% body fat, taking medicine against high blood pressure and not feeling well at all. Within a year of integrating a multi-facetted lifestyle approach, I lost 55 pounds, dropped my body fat to 22% and no longer take any medication. In addition, I can keep up with my 8-months old grandson with delight and ease. Thus, my prime motivation to be an active, fit and contributing member of my family is becoming true. And who would have thought that I enjoy boxing! A year ago, I could not imaging that cardio-vascular fitness could be so much fun. My point, explore yourself and trust that you can get excited about life. Indeed, I recommend Water and Rock Studio to anyone who is serious about making a lifestyle change. If that is what you want, do not hesitate. Sign up today with Japheth and Suzanne.

I started working with Japheth at Water and Rock 18 months ago. In that time I have lost 35 pounds, become much stronger, more flexible, and have greater endurance. This summer I climbed 14,000 foot Mt. Bedford in Colorado with my son. I couldn’t have come close to achieving that two years ago. My blood pressure and cholesterol are lower than ever. The training he recommends and the diet work. It’s not magic, but if you work at the program, and work hard, you can reach your goals. Japheth is a great motivator and trainer, and he’s fun to work with. If you’re thinking it’s time to get healthy, working with the folks at Water and Rock is a great first step.

Water and Rock Studio is a great little studio in Chestnut Hill. Japheth and his team are friendly, knowledgeable, and encouraging in reaching your wellness goals. I've done 30 minute personal training sessions the past 6 months and I appreciate the holistic approach that Japheth implements from Day One. I'm eating healthier, am more active, and appreciate the support as I try and make these lifestyle changes. Japheth also worked within my budget and found a way to make the most of what I could afford. I highly recommend Water and Rock Studio!

I've been using the services of Water and Rock Studio for just over a year now with tremendous results. My initial weigh in was at 217 pounds and 22 percent body fat. I was also on pre diabetic medication. Through hard work and guidance from Japheth, I'm now 180 lbs with 14 percent body fat! My waist size went from 38 to 34. I haven't felt this good since my teenage years. If you commit yourself to modifying your food and water intake and hard work, you'll definitely see results. I highly recommend people at least visit the studio for a consultation . It can change your life!

Holistic health experience. Like anything else, you get what you put into it. I describe Japheth as a hippie in the body of a personal trainer. He will encourage you to make changes in many areas of your life, and many of them resonated with me (physical activity, sleep, stress, what I eat), while others did not (supplements and essential oils). With regards to the negative reviews, Japheth will assertive state what he believes will help you, but he has always been fine when I assertively state that I am not interested in something (this included when I decided to end my contract renewal). I spent two years with Japheth and learned a lot that I still carry with me. Working with Japheth helped keep me accountable, and I believe that I am a healthier person because of it.

Tickets purchased and paid on 7/7 for a 7/16 class. Received E-mail instructions to complete electronic waiver before 7/16. Electronic waiver completed on 7/14. Japheth informs me that class is full but as a courtesy will allow us to participate this one time only. Japheth was condescending and acted like he was doing us a favor by allowing us into the class we had already paid for. I suggested that this was backwards and should be fixed. Japheth immediately says that I'm not a good fit for the class and will refund my money. Our conversation ended, I'm stunned.
I'm still stunned as I write this. This is not the behavior of a normal person. A normal person would have responded differently. A normal person would have said yes, I'm sorry that we sold more tickets to an event than it's capacity. This is probably not the first and/or last time a person will unfortunately have to experience the fine customer service that Japheth is capable of.

My husband and I have been coming to Water and Rock for almost 3 years for primarily their yoga and fitness classes and we love it. It has become essential to our weekly routine. Aside from helping small business owners which is near and dear to my heart, I really like the personal touch the studio offers, such as offering suggestions for improvements to poses, challenging you to achieve your intentions/goals each practice, and allowing you to adjust based on what your body is feeling without feeling any pressure or judgment.
The studio's owners, Japheth and Suzanne, often work with us to adjust class schedules/times, which is very important to us due to our hectic work situation and consistent travel. They are very understanding and willingly offer suggestions for improvements. They also hire wonderfully experienced teachers in addition to themselves to teach the classes, which offers variety and keeps the classes fresh & new.
I would recommend this studio to anyone who wants to get back into shape or maintain the shape they are already in!

I started with Water and Rock doing prenatal yoga with Suzanne. After a couple miscarriages, practicing with Suzanne made me feel grounded and centered in what felt like the longest scariest pregnancy ever. I've never written a bad review on a small business, or any business for that matter. Worst experience I've ever had with a business, and I was a client for 17 months. No major issues with quality of instruction, the reason for the poor review is the difficulty of ending the contract, even for a long standing client. Be very careful when signing up, there is no notification before the contract renews automatically. I was told that emails are sent to notify clients of renewal, which I never received, but after asking no less than 6 times, the studio was never able to produce one of those emails.
I agree very much with the other poor review on here, Japheth does not take no for an answer. Very aggressive sales tactics. I tried to stop sessions twice, and the entire next session was spent selling me more sessions. I thought this was obvious to both Japheth and I, thought he might offer me a free session in exchange and also as a thank you for continuing to be a client, but no.
This past October I finally decided it was time to stop. Once again, I was told I was "under contract", again this is after no notice of renewal, and also after spending around $2000 at this studio. I refused to pay the last $150, and have now been turned into a collection agency (another first for me) over $150!
In 17 months I was not able to reach my goal (not the studio's fault) but only 2 months after buying the book "Clean Eating" by James Duigan, available on Amazon and most book stores, I've reached my goal. Upon starting training sessions with Japheth, I told him I tend to drink wine most nights. He said this was fine (which I thought was odd) as long as I didn't have beer or spirits. I ran this by a few other trainers and health professionals, they did not agree. Well I should have listened to them. I stopped drinking wine and have since lost 12 pounds! Buy the book Clean Eating, save your money, and avoid this studio and their very arrogant business practices.

I have a disability, weakness on my right-side up and down my body. I love yoga, but the balance stuff can be scary and I never get the full benefit of the arm extensions because I always have to hold on to something to maintain my balance.
Suzanne changed all that! She comes over to hold me steady so I can really stretch. I've never felt so safe in yoga before - ever! I can't wait for Thursday's now! I'm so excited to keep going back!

I have had a great experience with Japheth at Water and Rock Studio and highly recommend them. They are worth your time and money, but be forewarned as a side effect you will probably become too small for your wardrobe and need to invest in some new clothes! ;-) I am totally serious, I dropped some weight and a couple inches off my waist and just bought my first sleeveless workout shirt in 30 years since, all while getting stronger.
Prior to Water and Rock Studio, I was an avid bicyclist, runner, and amateur sports car racer, but suffered a major injury while cycling that required an extended period of inactivity and rehabilitation. I also had a pretty weak core and not much upper body strength. Following physical therapy / rehab for a shattered clavicle (now plated & screwed back together), I wanted to increase core and upper body strength, build endurance, increase flexibility, and learn a bit of yoga.
After an initial meeting, we also identified a need to reduce my stress level and take steps improve my nutrition. My regular one on one sessions tend to check in on personal health, stress levels, and nutrition, and then engage in a wide variety of functional fitness work. It is always changing, so you never get bored or find it repetitive. This can't be understated, as I hated trying to go to a traditional gym and using whatever machines were available - that never worked for me. I have also attended a few of their group sessions, especially the free ones on Saturdays, and find them good as well - to round out my activity each week.
They also work with an informal local network of other health & wellness professionals, which is nice. And they have periodic special events that are interesting.
Reflecting back on the last six months of working with Water and Rock studio, I have to say I have been highly impressed with the result, and it has been worth every penny spent and every minute invested personally. That said, the results depend on **your** commitment and willingness to try new things and focus on fitness and nutrition every week between your sessions. Although I was often skeptical of some of the dietary and health recommendations for example, I have tried each one just to see and saw some surprising results that have motivated me to keep up with the changes (nothing like positive reinforcement!).
I am now stronger and in better condition that before my injury, my nutrition has improved, my health has improved (for example - my cholesterol was high before hand and is now substantially lower and in the normal range again), I have learned and regularly practice yoga, and my stress level has dramatically diminished. I have not felt this good in many years, and friends, family, and co-workers have all noticed.
I highly recommend Japheth and Water and Rock Studio - give them a try and see what you think!

I have been taking the semi-private Self-Defense classes, including several private sessions, at the Water and Rock Studio for about 3 months now. Just after several sessions, I felt more confident as I walked down the street. Especially when you keep taking the classes, you notice that you are building muscle memory and the moves become more second nature. The instructor,Japheth, focuses on what I call practical self defense. In a different MMA class I tried, the focus was on remembering a long series of punch and kicking combos, which in a real life situation, I could not imagine being helpful. In comparison, at the Studio, I've learned a series quick moves designed to help me get away as quickly as possible. Which is what I would prefer to do rather engage in a fight with someone twice my size. We do also of course cover situations where you have to engage a bit more. And that to me is practical self defense.
Not to mention that Japheth has a great sense of humor which makes the class fun and up beat. You do get a great work out. One of my favorite things to do is practicing punching and kicking because it relieves stress better than any work out I have ever done. Another favorite: at 5'4" tall, I love taking a 200lbs guy and flipping him over my back. Or, realizing I can pick up my also 200lbs husband and carry him over my back in case I needed to get him out of a burning house. Just knowing you can do that will make your day.
I highly recommend you try out the classes!

ELITE fitness & training for First Responders!
When I came to Water & Rock 3 months ago, I was a walking zombie from shift work, poor diet, and job stress.
I received coaching in fitness, (tailored for the dangers and demands of my work!) diet, and stress-reduction.12 weeks later, I'm in the best shape of my life and sleeping better than ever; I feel healthier, more energetic, and more positive. I am stronger, faster, more flexible, and less susceptible to injury! The improvements to my quality of life are worth a fortune - but didn't COST a fortune! :-)
If you are Police, Fire, EMS, or ANYONE wanting better health, strength, mobility, and positive outlook, try Water & Rock. You will not be disappointed. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxing. I can't overstate this: If you give Water & Rock some time, energy, and a little bit of dedication, you will emerge a new person.
Good luck!

I've been working with Japheth since the new year. Because I experienced such amazing results for the first few months, when he asked if I would try virtual sessions with him, I decided to give it a go. At first I was wary, but I have discovered that it is an even better use of time than the training sessions we used to have, and I thought those were great. Being able to talk to him about my diet, nutrition, sleep, health, and other daily habits at an in-depth level allows him to design workout schedules that are better suited for where I am right now in my state of health/fitness. He can also provide better guidance on lifestyle tweaks I need to make almost real-time. Meeting with him weekly has helped me to remember how each and every little decision I make about what to eat, when to go to bed, how much water to drink, etc., impacts my overall health and well-being, not to mention any fitness goals I may have. Best of all, Japheth is a great guy who is very k knowledgeable, passionate, and positive about my potential (yet firm and honest), so he makes me want to keep up my workout schedule and try to make those changes that otherwise would be so hard to do. If you are looking for a trainer who takes it to the next level, Japheth is your guy!
