The overall ymca is great. The only issues is the kid zone. There is multiple ladies in there not doing anything, they said if we leave the kid for 15 minutes and the child is still crying then they will call you. They didn’t even try to calm down the child before calling you. The last time my child was crying for 5 minutes and then they proceeded to call me to pick my child up. They didn’t even try to comfort her. She was just in a corner when I got there.

My family and I have been members of this YMCA for almost 4 years, and we couldn’t be happier. The gymnastics and swimming teams are amazing—the coaches are professional, kind, and wonderful with kids. The summer camp is also excellent, full of fun activities and offered at a very fair price for the great quality. The facility is always clean, spacious, and welcoming. I’m so disappointed to have to leave this review, as I’ve been a YMCA member since I was a child playing YMCA sports, going to summer camp, etc. in my home town. When I moved here and toured the facility, I was so excited to get to continue with the Y as the service and facilities have always been great for the price.

The facility is beautiful, the yoga classes are good (only ones I have tried), and as a power lifter they surprisingly had every single piece of equipment I needed, so why mess with a good thing and go somewhere else? Unfortunately there’s some factors I just can’t ignore, that will be causing my wife and myself to cancel our family membership and go elsewhere.

One being that they allow 10 year olds (min age) to use fitness equipment like cable machines, barbells, etc. as long as a parent is with them. There is no reason for a 10 year old to be using this equipment. It is beyond dangerous for a child that age and gives absolutely no physical benefit, as well as making it harder to have an efficient workout because these small children are hogging machines to essentially mess around on.

Another frustrating aspect is that there are multiple juice heads that go to this gym that will loudly talk on their phone, camp at the smith machines and squat racks, and generally have no consideration for other members. I have brought up these issues with staff and have literally been waved off, told they will “look into it” and then suddenly they’re just shooting the breeze with these guys so you know nothing was done. It is extremely disappointing. I saw one of the aforementioned guys behind the counter up front so I think one of them works there, so that’s probably why they’re allowed to do what they do with seemingly no interference.

It really is a shame because it is overall a pretty nice gym, but with what I mentioned above, I just can’t justify being a member here anymore when it is blatantly obvious they don’t actually care about the average gym-goer’s experience. I’ve seen a few reviews similar to mine, so maybe one day management will make changes, but I’m not sticking around to find out.

This is an AMAZING YMCA!!! It's huge and there is even an indoor walking track that I love and is often difficult to find. It also has multiple indoor pools and a variety of group fitness classes. It is also exceptionally clean and the staff seem super friendly! I'd highly recommend this wonderful facility!

I have never experienced such a rude employee at a gym. We arrived at 4:30 on Sunday after calling to ask if we could stop by for a quick tour and being told on the phone that the facility is open until 5:00 and that no appointment was needed. As soon as we arrived at the front desk, not only weren’t we greeted with a smile, but Bruce was clearly annoyed that we arrived close to closing time. He had a scowl on his face and was the opposite of welcoming in every way. He had assumed that we were there to work out and was irritated and went on to say that they need to make sure that they get everyone out of here in time. When I said that we wanted a quick tour, he curtly said there was no one available. I understand that our timing might not have been ideal and that we were not able to see the facility. But I don’t understand having a front desk person with such poor interpersonal skills. I hope management recognizes that this is not the type of staff that should be greeting consumers.

Some of my concerns were addressed by mgmt. we will see if they improve but I am still not a fan of just how many kids are on the gym floor. They should have a kid gym section upstairs. I will be getting a membership somewhere else. I know the policy, the fact is, they are not following the policy consistently and I see kids that are too young on the floor. A kid younger than 6 was on a rack, that should never happen. Idc what they say they are supposed to do. That should never happen. You’re putting mandated reporters at risk.

I appreciate the Y for looking out with a discounted membership while between jobs. I appreciate the pool.

I don’t appreciate working out with nothing but 10 year olds and groups of kids. That’s just not my vibe. I updated my review because I did talk to mgmt. I’d give 4 stars but I just can’t get over the 6 year old on the rack.

The kids are not wearing lanyards and the 10 year olds are not with an adult. The adults are leaving the kids or the kids are coming from other parts of the facility.

This YMCA really stands true to the Non-profits mission. I used to work for YMCA in college. I have always loved the YMCA. As I graduated, I became a social worker and worked with children and families. When I visited any YMCA, I always recommended families for the childcare. Ymca does their due diligence with staff and overall programs, they offer affordable options for families. We moved to the area and becoming a parent, I was extremely nervous leaving my child someplace. We live equal distance from the Northeast Phila and the Willow grove, I tried the northeast and although it is nice for families I found I felt safest with decision to leave my daughter with the staff at the gym daycare. She has allergies and they always abide from the no snack rules. The director personally called me when I brought up to staff concerns for leaving her. They do a good job- call you right away if your child needs to be changed etc. The overall facility is very large and the family locker rooms are the best part. No issues with finding spacious stalls to change all the kiddos and get ready for swim, nurse/ bodle feed, etc. Overall, my daughter loves it- she jumps with excitement every time we come and runs to the childcare area even after her programs. This YMCA is our happy place and gives us a sense of community when we are not from the Phila area.

I cannot, for the life of me, make any sense of this new schedule change for the summer. Summer vacation means an increase in traffic in and out of the gym. And, the way to handle the increase in traffic is to close at 5pm instead of 7pm, on the weekends. I'm fairly certain there are members who's only available time to go is after 5pm on the weekends. Do they not matter? Occupied with work and other commitments during the week, work until 4, 430pm on weekends, stop at the YMCA for a nice workout after work, and basically, you are telling them that they don't matter. This has to be the dumbest decision. Since the accessibility to members has been cut 16+ hours a month, I'm sure that the membership rates will do the same, right? Less availability = less cost of membership. Seems only fair... do better!!!

They really need to have 2 saunas. Weird and uncomfortable all the older men go in dripping wet from the pool in speedos no shirt and legs spread open. I can speak for multiple females I’ve encountered that feel the same. Gross ! The life guards are helpful and overall a decent gym but the sauna situation isn’t even cool at all that they allow that.

The Willow Grove YMCA… boy oh boy where do I start. I began going to this gym a few months ago and my physique has radically TRANSFORMED (and I don’t say that lightly) thanks to the awesome equipment, lovely environment, and the staff- who could ever forget the staff. As an avid evening lifter at this location, I have developed such a rich community in the fitness center bolstered by the night crew who are unbelievably friendly and helpful. The training is top tier, and I don’t think I would have been able to achieve this life changing body transformation without them. I can not recommend this location more - it’s an absolute delight. If you’re in need of training, stop in and chat with some of the crew one evening- tell them I sent you. I give you my GUARANTEE you leave more informed, stronger, and more fit than you were when you walked in. As they say in the fitness center, “Y NOT” 😂💪💪. On top of the personal training, the classes they hold in there for kids and small groups are electric! It always looks like a blast- the trainers are high energy, extremely involved, and CREATIVE! They find ways to make fitness FUN, while still being EFFECTIVE! Let me stop before I get too “Y’D UP” 😂.

Today, I was harassed by a worker because she didn't believe that I, a person of color had a membership. Even though I was already checked in, even though I informed her many times I had a membership. Because I didn't feel like arguing I decided to grab my items from the locker room . While walking she stopped me and started following me to the locker room (I'm a minor) on top of that when I was dressing she stood there and stared at me while changing. I’ve been going to this location for about a month. Very clean, spacious, and some helpful staff. My issue is with daycare. If you don’t need that then it’s amazing!

Daycare:
My stars off is for the daycare department. The 2 hour daycare here can be useful if you have a toddler who knows how to play independently. (Fine with getting toys snatched from them with no adult around to correct.)

However, if you have a baby who is unable to walk/talk, I would be VERY cautious! They WILL let your baby CRY IN THEIR CAR SEAT for at least 10 min before they call you. They will not uncover the baby or remove the baby from car seat. When they called me my baby was hysterical and had scratch marks on her face! She never scratched herself this bad! EVER! Not the first time they let a baby cry in a car seat. The employees must be trained to let them stay however you bring them in. Once I took my baby out the car seat and played with her she was fine. They were there for one hour so I still had an hour left. The workers acted like they didn’t want to take my 7month old back. Literally hiding and smiling at each other as if it was funny. Image my concern as a mother leaving my baby with people like that! Luckily I found a really nice young lady to help and shared with her how she likes to play.

Advice: make sure your baby is up and hand them to a reliable worker. Tell them what your baby likes (to be held, to play, etc.,). If you’re really concerned check on your baby. I really don’t have anymore trust in them. There are a handful of them I trust with my baby.

I bring my son to this location. While he's inside I walk the outdoor trail. I think it might be 1/2 mile track that goes around the entire campus. You can enjoy the nice views of the lake, ball courts in the back and picnic areas.

Yes I like the YMCA, It's to bad they don't maintain their equipment that works on pulleys cables. Do a leg press and you feel it go chunk chunk chunk chunk. Pull down machine same damn story. Basically no maintenance. The stuff is like junk. Just imagine going and buying a brand new car and never changing the oil. Basically the motor turns into a pile of junk. It would make it so much nicer to be able to enjoy a workout having the equipment run smoothly. Hopefully someone will figure out how to do that maintenance there. Very disheartening.

I’m being ghosted by the WG YMCA. I’m just trying to enroll my child in a summer camp which requires me to put in an inquiry and receive a call back from a camp leader. It’s been a month and I’m still waiting. I called twice…still waiting. My child has been here for many years and never had this issue. Meanwhile, the capacity for this program is filling up. I have no complaints about the YMCA in Willow Grove PA. Average membership prices, call ahead for kids swim/ family swim hours and kids under 7 must be accompanied by an adult when in the pool. My advice is to eat before you go. They do have lounging areas, vending machines, lockers, etc. Spacious gym room, basketball court and go online to check out specific
classes. Small outdoor playground area but plenty of parking. Great outdoor seating.I definitely recommend joining if you live in the area.

I normally go to the Northeast YMCA even though this one is bigger, newer and closer to my home. If you go to the gym to be alone and don't care about anyone else this is for you. Love your Bodypump and Bodystep class, although the music does not vary. Zumba Toning at the Ambler Y is the best!! Vinyasa Yoga at Willow Grove is very mechanical and too fast and prescriptive to allow for any meaningful stretching.
On the whole I would love to see less MILLS and more individuality but love the plentiful choice of classes…BTW „Cardio Fusion“ is a misnomer: there is neither cardio nor fusion in that class with chairs. I get more exercise cleaning my kitchen:)

I have been coming here for a few months now & am literally in love with the place. Huge, new, clean & from front desk to life guards, everyone is so encouraging & seems really happy to be there. It must rub off on the members bc everyone is always smiling & friendly. This is my Y for life!

This YMCA stole my money for a class. I paid for a swim class for my daughter as a non member. The class was cancelled after 2 lessons. We were supposed to be notified when new classes were able to be signed up for. That never happened for non-members. When I learned I tried to schedule but found my account my account closed. The YMCA just deleted all non member accounts from COVID. Several calls where I promised a refund never resulted in anything. I really should have taken this to small claims.

Facility is modern and spacious with ample parking lot. Playground on site is a favorite of my kids. Always had a great experience with their KidZone childcare, and my toddler and preschooler have loved their swim lessons and instructors here!
