I would not recommend this gym to anyone. Worsted gym ever all the stairs master and treadmill are out of order. The basketball court is closed and pool too. What is going on? People are paying their membership monthly to be able to workout comfortably. Coming here is an inconvenience and waste of my money and time. I will close my membership and sign up somewhere else.

Upstairs exercise room AC is fixed around 9/7 or 9/8, waiting to see if it will suddenly stop working again.
Now they really need to work on the pool. The pool at Cranston RI has been closed almost a year, or approximately 9 months. The notice says for repair, wondering if they are rebuilding the entire pool??? Even if they are, it should be done by now but isn’t.

Cranston location doesn’t maintain well. Previous AC problem was tortuous and took them over 2 months to fix it (that was during the late summer). Most of the staff weren’t too friendly nor knowledgeable on what’s going on in the gym.
One of the locks for the stall in women’s bathroom has been broken for over a month still isn’t fixed. The faucets either have water pressure issues or no soap in the dispensers.

Dirty and stinky from lack on cleaning. machines always broken - 6 stair masters and 1 works, every other treadmill out of service, etc and not enough bars for the equipment for more than a year.
Pool and jacuzzi has been broken since October 2024.
Entrance door broken. They never put a sign so u end up pulling it, walking into it and hurting yourself.
AC is broken in studio room.
Never turn on the AC on hot days.
Air vents are so dirty it looks like mold is growing from them
Weights are everywhere and never racked.

I know from past experiences this place used to not be the best and I’d probably not even want to rate it, but I can honestly say after them hiring some new management and new staff members it seems it’s gotten so much better. Sure it seems like there may be a lot to fix still but it’s being worked on and that makes me so happy to see. This is a clean wonderful gym. It used to have kickboxing classes. There is AB classes Zumba and many more. The people there are wonderful! Kevin in salesis wonderful!Feel free to visit him. This gym is in AWFUL shape.

Seemingly every circuit machine has missing pieces, doesn't work or is a legitimate health hazard (seats that drop mid-set, kinked/stripped/poorly tensioned cables, pegs that are permanently stuck).

Half of the cardio equipment is damaged or out of service, with either a damaged screen, broken incline system or a track that slides.

There are almost no handles, bars, grips or carabiners anywhere in the gym, and certainly not enough for the number of machines they have. If you are lucky enough to find them, they are usually mismatched, loose or hanging on by a thread.

There is generally no urgency in fixing any of the equipment, with "Scheduled for Service" signs being attached to broken machines for months at a time.

The bathrooms are always a mess and 9/10 times every toilet is clogged. Urinals have been out of service for months to years.

The pool has been closed "for renovations" for about a year at this point, with no sign of any work being done and no update. Prior to every window being boarded up, it looked as though the walls were being stripped due to mold.

Nobody has any idea what is happening on the outside of the gym either. There are thousands of yellow, metallic plugs peppering the walls and the plastering was completely removed from one entire side of the building. It's been in this state for over a year with yet again no progress or explanation.

It is certainly a shame, as the staff there are generally incredibly kind and helpful and are likely trying their best with the resources they have.

The owner/manager of this location needs to invest some SERIOUS cash into repairs and upkeep, especially when they have the gall to charge what they do for membership.

As other people have said this gym is pretty gross and dirty. Machines are old and filthy. Many of them are broken, and don’t have weights labeled so it’s impossible to know how much weight you are lifting. I signed a year long personal training contract at my previous gym in Philadelphia. DO NOT do the personal training!! It is a SCAM!!! LA Fitness is horrendous at employee retention, every 4-8 weeks I had a new “trainer” that I had to start over completely with. How is someone expected to build up on something when the gym is a revolving door of employees? The sales person in Philadelphia sold me on a robust training program where the trainers would carefully monitor my progress and develop a program specifically for me. What I received was anything but that!!! The only employees who stick around are useless and do nothing except look at their phones. This gym is seriously dirty, the only reason I’ve been going is because I now live in Cranston, and it’s a few blocks from where I live. I’ll be changing membership to a further and cleaner gym.

Updating my review to include that there was a SHOOTING outside of this gym recently. That is the kind of clientele that this gym attracts. Unless you are looking to dodge bullets don’t come here!

If your going to a GYM I don't know why you would prioritize something frivolous like the temperature of the showers. Just shower at home? A lot of the complaints are coming from a bunch of whiny baby boomers who are getting a free membership from the state. The gym is maintained very well for serious lifters and has a great culture. We just quit LA Fitness. It wasn't worth it (scan the negative reviews - every comment is true). The overall experience declined steadily and management never did anything to adress their flaws. And, it's amazing that they only acknowledge their 5 star Google reviews - management mustn't understand that the negative reviews are an opportunity to make inprovements. Don't often write reviews, but when asked by the front desk to leave a 5 star review this past weekend I was offended. If you're just looking to lift and leave, this gym will suit you fine. Some equipment can use some work but it will get the job done. However, the pool and hot tub area has been closed for so long they've taped brown paper to the windows. Last time I asked the staff couldn't even give a timeline on when it will be fixed. Just that corporate hasn't even gotten back to them. Also the men's locker room has no hot water, so I hope you don't want to take a hot shower after your workout.

If you want a higher rating, fix the amenities members pay for first.

Julie from LA Fitness is the reason I face traffic and drive 20 mins from the city to go the gym because of the INCREDIBLE level of cleanliness she keeps the gym.

Every single time I come to the gym I see her meticulously and consciously sterilizing surfaces and nooks and crannies the old school way of cleaning!

I even asked her if she owns her own cleaning business bc I wanted her card if she had one. Cleanliness is such a big deal to so many of us who attend the gym faithfully. It’s the most important part of staying healthy while we work out. I appreciate Julia’s old school work ethic: constantly doing her job excellently to a high degree even when nobody is looking. I have been coming here for almost 10 years. The more things change, the more they stay the same. The positives. For me personally it’s very convenient. I go in the mornings. The young lady working in the morning is very nice and is a good worker. Some of the others are nice, some have a stick up their can. Excellent array of equipment. Lots of weights and machines. Basketball court is a plus when you can actually get on it. Love the heavy bags. Katelyn, the spin instructor is awesome. The morning regulars are nice people and share some of the same frustration. The negatives- no one puts anything away. Weights everywhere, or if put back on the rack they are put in the wrong place. 30 lb dumbbells go where it says 30. Not 20 or 25!!! Bathrooms and showers are awful. Barely ever clean! Other pictures are an accurate representation. Lastly, the ignorance of some of the members. Some who play their personally owned speakers out loud. Buy a goddamn pair of earbuds! That needs to be policed by staff and management. There is literally no need for it. Mostly an issue on the weekends. The other thing are the members who are not cognizant of others wanting to use machines when it’s busy. When it’s busy, you can’t cycle through 2-3 machines. You walk away from a machine. You lose it! Lastly, on the weekends. They don’t open on time consistently. 1 in 2 days they are late which irritates us early birds. If you are opening. Get movin’ - you have a responsibility to open the gym on time.

The staff is a bit annoying and at the smoothie bar when you pay for something they throw away half of what you are paying for and when you ask them why they do that they respond that that's how the rules are. If that's the case then they should have a more exact measurement because they are practically throwing away part of what you are paying for and apart from that the bathrooms are kept dirty and many times the showers only have cold water for showering.

My husband and I were in the pool and hot tub area last night and the condition of both are deplorable. It is a complete health risk to be anywhere in that pool area with the rust, mold, and peeling paint from the walls and ceilings. Conditions are absolutely disgusting and shameful considering the amount of money that we are charged to use this facility. From now on, we will be visiting the Baldhill Road facility and coming nowhere near Cranston. The health department needs to be notified of the conditions of the pool area.

I joined a little over a month ago, and regret it. This location is filthy, the machines are all in various states of disrepair or outright broken, and the women’s restroom is usually disgusting, and there’s no water pressure in the sink faucets (the ones by the toilets) to even wash your hands. I live nearby and this is the most convenient location for me, and since I only wanted to use the cardio machines I didn’t really check it out before signing up which was a big mistake. The staff interactions I’ve had have all been fine, and I don’t know how much control they do or don’t have over the facilities, so can’t necessarily blame them. But it’s clear the manager/owner isn’t doing anything to maintain the place and is essentially just stealing members’ money. Will be cancelling my membership.

The machines are mostly all broken and takes months to fix not even three stair. Master machines have been broken since I’ve been a member there.

Mike S has been a valuable and reliable associate. He is considerate of all members and is very personable. I was working out with a few weights that I did no longer need and he came by and personally put them away for me. I appreciated the gesture and he also had let me know if I needed a spotter he could help. He routinely puts all the weights back. La Fitness needs more workers like him.

Went here to try a diffent gym. Couldnt be more disapointed. Half the machines upstair kept reading error 40. Were also missing the plastic for the cup holders, water damage on the celling over by the jaccuzzi, also the jets were half working. Lockers were dirty, and the list goes. I can't say this about ever LA fitness but this one left a stain.

This should be a no star la fitness. I have been to over 30 la fitness locations, this is the worst one. The staff will not move from the front desk and never organize the weights. The weights are never where they go, the members here seem as lazy as the staff, refusing to put their damn weights back. The sauna doesn’t get cleaned I’ve been coming here all week while in town and the same trash is still there from last week. Vending machines are down and no one gets to the juice bar until after 7.

At the very least, organize your weights, fix your gym, this is the kind of place that contributes to ruining gym culture.

Helpful staff....honestly I have forgotten stuff here and wasn't touched or moved next day...very comfortable here....I cannot say enough positive things about the staff and the facility

Teetering on 3.5 stars. May update. Place is huge and they have something for everyone. I would agree with others that place is not particularly new or clean. Staff are friendly although signing up is kinda like buying a used car. Great selection of activities, basketball is huge for most of us who hate doing cardio. They have a smoothie bar and an exceptional cross-fit / HIT section with bosu, balls, plyo blocks, ropes, tires, sled, etc!
Edited as of 11/29/22. Three months into membership. These folks take a lot of pride in their gym. They are always cleaning! I actually overheard two staff talking and they are trying to make a cleaner environment, constantly mopping and spraying and neatening up. 4 stars! Good stuff

Needs to look a whole lot cleaner. It's a new building, but it looks dingy and unclean. People sitting around on machines on their phones, making others wait for the spot. Needs signs for NO Phones posted in all exercise areas with that being monitored. Needs deep cleaning. And allowing personal music blaring and not demanding earbuds is just awful. Wouldn't pay a dime to go there.
