Not that you may care but whatever machines you replaced in Cranston on Plainfield Pike they’re horrible. This gym is one of the most spotless gyms I’ve ever been in. I am so disappointed with the machines cause I use them all the time. I’m an older guy. I’m in the gym every day everybody’s complaining of complaining about them. You may not lose any customers may lose me, but they are much cheaper version than what you had.

I’ve been a loyal member of the Johnston Planet Fitness and have always valued the welcoming, “Judgment Free Zone” atmosphere that the brand stands for. Unfortunately, I’ve recently witnessed and overheard multiple situations that completely contradict that philosophy, and I feel this needs to be brought to corporate and regional attention immediately.

Several members have verbally complained and even yelled at staff when 3–5 Spanish-language songs play during an entire 60-minute period, in between a wide variety of other music. I have overheard members calling this music “ghetto” and demanding it be turned off. As someone who is part of the Latinx community, I find this deeply upsetting. Does this mean that Latin music — and by extension, Latinx people — are considered “ghetto” and unwelcome here?

Johnston, RI, is part of one of the most diverse areas in the state, and this Planet Fitness sits right on the Johnston–Providence line along Plainfield Pike. According to U.S. Census data, over 43% of Providence residents identify as Hispanic or Latino, compared to nearly 17% in Johnston and about 30% statewide. Given how many members likely come from both communities, the gym’s environment, including its music, should reflect and celebrate that diversity, not suppress it.

What’s worse, when I asked the front desk about the music, I was told they are encouraged not to play non-English or non-“mainstream” music because higher management has labeled it “ghetto.” If this is true, it is deeply concerning and discriminatory, and it undermines the mission of Planet Fitness.

I joined because this is supposed to be a safe space for everyone, but if certain cultures’ music is banned or discouraged, how can we call this a Judgment Free Zone? I want this addressed and resolved immediately, and I would appreciate a direct number or email for a corporate or regional manager to follow up with me directly.

I’m so saddened about the way a situation was handled at this gym. I’ve always talked so highly about this particular location, and after a while of being with planet fitness i had to terminate my membership this week. I’ve been training for months via a virtual trainer that i pay, and while i was in the middle of my workout one of the staff members stood there and stared at me and i had to pause what i was doing because they needed me to get off my training session based on their phone policy. I think this is the most outrageous policy i have ever heard of. I always have my headphones in, i don’t make noise, and i make sure to not get anyone in my video call with the trainer. i asked to speak to her regional manager and they told me she’d be waiting for me up front. when i went to the front they proceeded to tell me “she left already” i understand im 1 member and they probably don’t care that i left but it’s truly awful behavior and the attitude ive gotten from that one woman multiple times seems to me like it was personal towards me because she’s nice to everyone else. i got this attitude a couple months ago too when i took my membership from the black card to the regular one because i told them i didn’t use it- im more disappointed because ive seen more rowdiness from the trainers in person that i see in the gym with obnoxious noise but i gladly took my business elsewhere. my only feedback is that next time if a customer wants to speak to you, give them the time of day and don’t run out the establishment because you don’t care to speak about it. Catch me at LA fitness where there isn’t any weird phone policies :)

This place is the best and the people who work there are wonderful,friendly they realy make it so enjoyable to be there.its so clean you can eat off the floors..they are always cleaning and doing something to keep the gym looking great.thks for the new equipment.the owner should be proud of the people that work there. Always clean! The staff are polite and positive when you go there! Love this location, not overwhelming or crowded. The manager Alex does an excellent job at keeping this facility clean, by far the cleanest planet fitnesses I’ve been to. The staff is also always accommodating when any questions or concerns arise. The staff does an outstanding job of greeting everyone coming through the door and always make sure to say goodbye to everyone.

I went into the club on 2/8/23 to cancel my membership. I dealt with the manager Alex who told me to would ensure my account was cancelled. Except she never cancelled it. I got a text message from planet fitness saying there was an issue with my payment. So due to Alex not cancelling my account, I incurred more charges. She said she supposedly called and said she couldn’t cancel the account (which you can only cancel in the club). I have phone records proving she never called. When I asked for the corporate number, I was given the wrong one. If you’re going to go to the Cranston club, I’d make sure this isn’t your primary club so you can cancel elsewhere because the manager Alex is a liar and fraud.

Annoying to quit a so called “no commitment” membership, especially during covidz they insist they need your signature and won’t do it over the phone. Charged my credit card when they couldn’t get money from my bank and added a fee. Signs say keep masks on but most middle aged people get some kind of pass and rules don’t apply to them. The staff is great! The regional manager at this location and the Warwick location is awesome. Always hands on with the clients and staff members. She isn't afraid to get things down either. (-5⭐️) Former member, relocated out of state due to family emergency and tried to cancel membership unsuccessfully for over 3 months, I was warranted cancelation by month 2, but once again they charged my account; spoke with manages; regional manager Courtney and my account still standing. Incompetent management with deplorable customer services skills, I lived in RI for over 25 years and had many gym memberships but this is the worse experience I have ever encountered. This institution is just vigilantly stealing from me, with dubious multiple charges. I will contact the authorities to rectify the wrong doing. Please be advise when considering this organization.

This Planet Fitness is very clean and the staff members are always nice! I've been taking sessions with Tyler Hagopian- the trainer at the location- for just over a month. He is super encouraging and pushes you to your limit, but he'll adjust the workout if he sees it's too difficult for you. Since joining PF and working with Tyler, I have lost 6-7 pounds and I feel so much better mentally and physically. I feel that my body is getting more toned and I walk into PF knowing that my body is a little bit better than the day before. A huge thank you to Tyler and the PF staff for making PF a welcoming and encouraging environment that legitimately gives you tools to a healthier lifestyle!!!
