I had been going to this gym for a few weeks and really enjoyed it at first—great people and a great atmosphere. Unfortunately, my experience yesterday completely changed my opinion. I brought my daughter with me so she could sit and do her homework while I worked out. I wasn’t aware that children must be at least 13 (she’s 11), and I understand rules are rules—that part wasn’t the problem.

The issue was how the manager handled the situation. She was extremely rude, very dismissive, and essentially kicked us out in a snotty manner. When I later called to cancel my membership, she was just as rude, she told me I had to come in to cancel, and then hung up on me.

I then called the corporate number I found online. They were polite and helpful, explained that someone would reach out in 3–4 days, and even assisted me in canceling my membership online—something the local manager failed to mention.

I will not return to Planet Fitness. Maybe other locations are better, but the North Smithfield, RI location needs its management seriously reevaluated.

This Planet Fitness has the friendliest staff who go way above and beyond when it comes to cleanliness. I commend the Manager in Charge and all the staff for constantly washing the floors and vacuuming. Equipment stays broken for months. They want you to clean every machine but don’t provide any hand disinfectant none? They waste so much paper towels bad for environment. The cost is appropriate. Hours are still limited on weekends due to Covid years ago. Location is good. Can be 85 outside and fans on low for staff at desk who are not moving much .NO HANDICAP DOOR AT ENTRANCE? I went Just Before Closing at 9:00pm on Friday Night, and was Greeted by a Friendly Desk Staff Person who was Busy Keeping the Dowling Village Planet Fitness Site Impeccable. This Facility was Among The Cleanest PF I Have been Too. I usually only Utilize the 30 Minute 2orkout Areas when I goto These Facilities.
I Love Both PF Sites, but Go To The Diamond Hill Location, Rarely Utilizing the Dowling Village PF Due to a Slight Difference in the Exercise Nautilus Type Stations. Each Workout Area Delivers State of The Art New Equipment which is NEVER in Disrepair.

Now, Since I Have Reviewed Both Site Locations, and ALWAYS RECOMMEND PLANET FITNESS to Averyone Who Asks where I work out, I have Been working on a Small Proposal for The Customer Relation and Marketing Team Management and Was Curious to See if The Equipment couldn't Be Fitted to Capture the Energy Output of Every Treadmill, Staircase, and all Workout Equipment that would Be Functional for This Query and Like the Turbines of a Windmill, or WaterFall Turbine does, Generate Electricity at The Facilities, And Show your Customer Base How Hard Their Workouts Are, Possibly Creating a Self Care Facility By Generating its own Power Source for all Electric Energy Needs at These Businesses and Become the Future Model for the Excellence That Planet Fitness has so Achieved since its Opening.

It's been quite awhile since my husband and I have been to a gym and it's a very nice quiet atmosphere. No one judges which is highly appreciated, we're all there to better ourselves. The treadmills hit different, the elliptical machine I've always enjoyed and as a mom that had a baby 4 years ago it feels great to be able to work on my core strength. The stretch & yoga area I also love cause everyone's also very polite & quiet and focused on their own progress.

Worse Gym Ever!!! STAY AWAY FROM THIS GYM!! I have been a member for several years and never had a problem renewing my membership until last year. I have always paid in full each year, but for some reason this gym would not allow it when my membership came up for renewal. I was forced to do month to month and had to give them my credit card and bank information. They also charged me a new membership fee of $60.64, even though I had been a member for years. Every month they also kept charging me a late fee, because they say my checking account did not exist, which was a lie. Instead of just charging the card on file, they charged a late fee. The manager, Cathy, has no clue what she is doing. She will tell you that you need to call corporate and they tell you that she can fix the problem. This gym is all about stealing money from people. Please beware of these tactics should you think about joining. There are many other gyms that are run by honest people

This location is smaller than the diamond Hill location. What I like is that the treadmill is completely accessible. However, the recumbent bike is not so it’s a trade-off. Music is much quieter so that it is better barely noticed for people that don’t really like the music and just want a quieter place to work out. Would like to see lockers, conveniently located near the exit. Seems to be short staff ed. Not sure why.

Nothing has been changed or replaced since opening.
Asked Mgr stated the owner will not replace things .Not a very positive mgr.

Enjoyed the gym until recently where i recieved the most vicious case of FULL BODY ring worm I literally do not use my home shower because I take one after a work out. I went in to go pay my bill because even though my bank said its not a bank issue they still cant draft it from my account. When i told the manager that I had said ringworm I was told thats impossible we use CLR I wont degradate anyones intelligence by explaining why that answer is idiotic after that it was just attitude on attitude the corporate office is literally impossible to get a hold of i would kill to have the hours they work! Then trying to get a hold of anyone above the manager of the location is also impossible no aplogies of the sort just oh its all your fault couldnt possibly be us! oh I almost forgot literally everytime I have gone to use the showers there are pubes and grime all over the place. Thug I have had to clean! The machines themselves are always clean but to be fair people clean after themselves so I do who is really cleaning them and most of the staff are very friendly however I should not have to pay a copay and then pay for prescriptions to not even get an apology or anything you could even confuse for taking responsibility!

What a shame!! Do not sign up if you are looking for a gym to workout!!
This used to be a great location to workout but with new Manager Kathy it has gone downhill. She has absolutely no customer service and verbally attacks guests instead of handling professionally. Obviously has never had Management training or experience. Went as far as to say "I'm the new manager and things are changing, I'm whipping my staff into place so they start following rules". When you ask to speak to her supervisor she laughs and says that is not how things work. I then tell her I will simply email Corporate again and she laughs again saying she is going to call her Regional Manager right after call so she knows truth. Wow, guess it's no wonder Kathy is the way she is if she and Regional manager are friends and don't care about customers. I just hope the franchise owner of this location is aware that their management staff is running guests off.
Can't wait to get the generic response from PF like other tickets have about how they care about customers and would love to learn more about issue. Tryst me, that is laughable after Kathy's previous call. They could care less!!
Again, save yourself the trouble and find a different gym!!

Love going here with my hubby, only thing I can suggest is that the 20 something year old staff remind their long time lunk-like regulars to clean up after themselves. I've seen multiple people there regularly who do NOT clean machines after they use them, and no one says anything. We would also love it if there were a TV playing an explanation as to what the circuit room is because we get tired of people cutting in front of us to sit at the machines on their phones and block us from finishing our path in the circuit rotation. The place is clean otherwise.

The fact that the scanners to check in are now off the counter is EXTREMELY inconvenient. The staff is not always at the desk due to just doing their job, like cleaning or helping other customers. I can no longer just scan my key card and go about my business and I'm sick of this place constantly making changes that make things more difficult for members!! I just want to go and work out but have to wait 20 mins for someone to come and bring the scanner out from behind the counter just to scan me in. The annoyance with the choices corporate makes to this place is beyond frustrating and just another reason why I'll be switching gyms. Don't even get me started on the amount of BROKEN equipment.

The manager Kaitlyn is so rude and unprofessional. Had a disagreement with this particular person, called planet fitness customer service and they have her call me back (even though she was named in the complaint)!!! I asked if there was someone else I could speak to seeing as though we already didn’t get along and was trying to avoid another argument, she insisted there was no one else and I’d have to deal with her. I even told her at the beginning of the conversation I wasn’t there to argue, I wanted to sort it out and she hangs up on me and wouldn’t answer the phone when I tried to call back repeatedly. How is this management?. I have videos of the way I speaking to her, wasn’t yelling, wasn’t cussing but because she didn’t like what I had to say she hung up on me. Prior to this had no issues with anyone or anything at this location. Such a shame that this is how this location is run.

The North Smithfield PF is clean and spacious, and their machines are well-maintained and easy to use. The staff is friendly, respectful and helpful. I also appreciate the 'busy time' chart on their website to let us know when it's safer to come in. It's a joy to have such a place to exercise, especially for a retired guy like me.
My one concern is that with Covid case numbers resurging in RI, social distancing among the clientele is not being maintained. Some wear masks, some don't, and no one knows who's vaccinated or not. I'm hoping that management either mandates vaccinations or reverts back to shutting down every two Arc Trainers, Ellipticals and other machines that are set closely together until the case numbers drop.

I also would like to add that I have taken classes with Kyle who is knowledgeable and helpful. He shows you the proper techniques for performing exercises. Works to push you but also helps if you have any health issues. He recently helped me with some exercises to help with some physical pain i was going through with my joints.
If you haven't made an appointment with him do so it is part of your black card services and well worth it!!!

I have been going to Planet Fitness for about 9 months now, the staff is always welcoming and very friendly especially the manager and Kyle the trainer, loved going until about a month ago when I left a pair of beat headphones in the tanning room the manager when Kyle had went in right after me I left too quick for them to give them to me so they put my name on them and left them in the drawer also left a note in the book, when I went back the next day to retrieve them because they said they had them the assistant manager Ash informed me that she had given them to somebody else she stated she found them on the table when the manager and Kyle corrected her and said no they had found them in the tanning room and put them in the drawer with a note and a note in the book she argued with them that they were wrong she's an offered to call the girl she gave them to she then offered to replace them because she gave them away a month had went by and everyday still never had an answer for me nor had she replaced the headphones that she gave away when I went into the gym today and spoke to the manager she informed me that Ash quit I guess I'll never get them replaced because she no longer works there thank you to the manager and Kyle for all they did to try and get them back to me

I don't normally leave reviews but I was so pleasantly surprised I felt the need to share my experience. I recently traveled to the area for work from NY, and used this particular location during my stay as it was closest to my hotel. Upon my first visit to this gym the staff member behind the desk, Kaitlyn, who I later learned was the manager, greeted me and must have noticed I wasnt a regular as she asked if I was new to the area and welcomed me to the gym. She chatted briefly with me about me being from out of town and she recommended a fantastic local restaurant to try during my stay. That level of customer interaction, especially with her noticing I wasn't a normal patron was incredibly refreshing! Most gyms I've used in the past are staffed by teenagers who clearly can't be bothered to care about the guest experience. The facilities and equipment were exceptionally well cleaned and maintained, and I could definitely tell an emphasis was placed on safe usage regarding COVID regulations. The rest of the staff were also polite and non-intrusice and the gym itself was not overly busy which was a huge plus for me. Overall I was incredibly pleased with my experience and I would not hesitate to visit this planet fitness again in any of my further business trips
