Gonna write a real review. I use PF all over the country. The black card is extremely affordable and great, that why i have it and have used so many. Its literally hit or miss everytime. You should expect a broken machine or a group of high-schooler. Its a 10$ gym. Its always there and always open. Feel like a cave? No window and a black cieling, lot of pf do this. Overall, this one could use a makeover and so reorganizing, but until then, this place is never packed and every machine is always open. Thank you PF. Staff is great!

They closed for a month to change the light and floor. They ruined the aesthetic and clearly didn't ask anyone what they like or want to change before renovating. It now resembles an overly bright walmart. The 30 minute room is poorly rearranged and can't be easily navigated.

This is an awful gym and I had an awful experience for the 48 hours I was a member. The signup and membership is highly predatory, with a massive startup fee ($71). I paid it because the gym was in such a convenient location for me, but I only worked out here once. Here are some of the issues I encountered.

1. Lack of equipment: the facilities are barebones, and many key pieces of equipment you'd expect are missing. There is not bench press, not squat rack, and there are very few cable machines that allow a diversity of lifts. Disappointing, as this is a gym essential. I expect multiple squat racks and benche presses.

2. Noisy and cliquey groups: there are loud and obnoxious groups of highschoolers that roam around posing, talking, and spending time on their phones more than they exercise. Even with headphones in you can't ignore their swearing and shouting. The walls are plastered with messages of inclusivity, but it appears little is done to actually make good on that promise.

3. Amenities: The showers are awful. The water pressure is very high and the shower heads are messed up to where you're choosing between a fire truck hose and a spray in all directions. The showers smell like mildew. It was gross.

4. Cancellation and cost: as I said, I left this gym soon after I signed up. They refused to refund me a single dollar of my $71 startup cost. I'd been a member for TWO DAYS!! The guy at the front seemed sympathetic but the fact that he couldn't do anything for me says a lot. I paid $71 for the worst lift of my life.

5. Miscellaneous: overall, planet fitness comes off as gimmicky, pandering to a certain crowd that feels unwelcome at other gyms. However, they do the exact same thing with their "hunk alarm" (google it). You can't change the channels on the TVs, which is inconvenient seeing as it's March madness. Also there is very little natural light, it's like a cave. The vast majority of the gym is cardio machines.

That's my two cents. I'm very disappointed and will recommend all my friends look elsewhere to meet their fitness goals.

However, the building and and gym itself leave a lot to be desired. It feels excessively dark for some odd reason. I'm not usually one to complain about ambient lighting but sometimes I feel like I'm in a cave here. This also feels like the smallest planet fitness I've ever been to. There's no 360 room. The stretching area barely exists. Everything feels like it's on top of eachother and it makes going to the gym during peak hours borderline impossible.

I'll keep it a buck. Everything I mentioned isn't enough to get me to drive the extra 10-15 to N.Providence or Johnston so these aren't deal breakers for me. But if you're used to a different gym or even a different planet fitness, realize that this is about as basic as a PF can get. It does what it needs to do and not much more.

In conclusion, I'm grateful they have a location in Smithfield. With that being said, they need a venue upgrade in the worst way.

Your current staff is great but the facility doesn’t have a proper area to warm up or cool down in, making it dangerous in regard to preventing injuries. The stretching room is crowded with the equipment for core workouts so there isn’t room for more than 4 people at a time to lay out a mat. Never mind if you want to do dynamic stretches that involve moving around a bit. I’ve been to multiple planet fitness locations, size and layout wise this is probably the worst. Please consider moving some of the equipment out of the stretching room and creating an environment that is inviting members to warm up and cool down properly. Although this is the closest gym to me physically which is why I have tried being a member for the second time now, it is apparent it’s worth spending more and traveling farther if you want to actually workout.

I've been coming here for over 10 years. I've never seen it unclean. The staff are super friendly and inviting. The machines are well kept up.

My only complaint is its becoming crowded more and more. Maybe I'm just spoiled, but it seems there's never enough room in the dumbell area, the stretching/floorwork area, and today I noticed the treadmills were so close together, that I could smell the meatball sandwich the guy next to me had for lunch.

This gym has significantly gone down hill. It is not clean, equipment can be out of order for months. There is no point in getting the black card because the tanning and hydro massage chairs are not kept up to be working effectively, staff turnover is beyond acceptable which speaks to a complete lack of leadership, and it is NOT 24/5 which is absurd. There is no reason that one of three gyms in this area , Johnston, Smithfield, North Providence cannot open back to 24/5. Instead of giving teens free summer memberships (which was a nightmare for “regulars”) Leadership should get creative and strategize a plan to expand hours, engage their staff, and pay them more. The owner of this RI franchise should listen to his members(who despite my numerous attempts to speak with is not interested in members) I have also called and spoken with PF headquarters who bounce everything back to the franchise owner. PF should hang their head. The only reason many of us stay is a lack of other options in the area. I am happy to discuss with anyone who will listen at PF.

The staff member on was very friendly, I was just all that fond of having to sign up on a console across the way. It takes away from the experience and if something goes wrong with the machine it could frustrate one enough to walk out without finishing signing up. Other than that, the atmosphere seems nice, I was given a quick visual tour and some suggestions for workouts, including classes.

I’ve been a faithful black card member for over 12 years and have never had a complaint or issue until today. My wife and I recently started working out together however my wife arrived to the gym 10 min before me and started working out. While on the treadmill she was approached by staff member whom caused a scene and publicly embarrassed my wife over working out and telling her she needs to leave. I understand the rules and have no issues with them however I totally disagree with the way the staff member April (Regional Manager) handled this by causing a scene and publicly embarrassing my wife. When I said it was wrong for her to embarrass my wife and she could have handled it differently she said it’s not a big deal it’s not like anyone heard her because it’s loud in the gym however every treadmill beside my wife was being used and it was pretty clear what she was doing as everyone turned to look. I then asked for her name and said I will be filing a complaint and she said go ahead I’m the regional manager all complaints come back to me anyway. VERY RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL!!!!!

Horrible lazy staff who sit around doing nothing. Standards have definitely been extremely lowered. Bathrooms are disgusting, mold growing on the tiles. It stunk so bad because of the black mold growing. The mirrors were so streaky I could hardly see myself. Disgusting. The gym is dimly lit and dirty. Nothing is ever cleaned. *02.25.2021 response to the owner's comment below just reinforces my comments here and the fact that the owner is a joke Jesse, the Greasy and Slimy manager which by the way is keeping it professional as during our conversation in person which was my 1st time at the facility. He demonstrated the worst customer service possible. He was so worried about the $10 late fee and not about the customer. I had just joined online on 2/15/2021 and paid $29.66 that went through no problem then I receive a text message from their Billing Co. that they were unable to bill me for the $10 on the 17th so they charged me a $10 late fee for a total of $20. He wouldn't wave it so it's more important for him to lose me as a customer than to reimburse the $10 and correct the issue on their end. The 3rd world billing company made me aware of this issue as I have stated, so I immediately contacted them to figure out the problem. I reverified the bank account that was provided. For me it's all about principal. Do not go to this place! He's a sleaze ball and the Facility is actually run down/dirty so he ended up doing me a favor. I notified my Bank and they are looking into the matter. I tried to resolve with Planet Fitness Corporate - good luck trying to reach an individual as the prompts always put the burden on the customer to contact the local gym in which they joined, so this case was a joke...bad joke. I proceeded to file a complaint with the BBB and was amazed at how many complaints were on file not only for this Smithfield location, but many more!

I love coming to workout, but I hate that certain " rules" are not enforced. I use the 30 minute workout typically to start and I can never finish my circuit, because other guests come in and use single machines that messes up the circuit. It wouldn't be bad if they just did it for the minute. Instead they sit and linger.

There are machines that are popular they should have more than one of in the big room, due to the same issue. People did a quick set and sit and play on their phones.

I'm a mom who works full time and comes often so my time is often limited and I cant always get a full workout

The employees are incredibly friendly, I wish they enforced things here.

I've been to many PFit locations, and the staff here is by far the most genuinely friendly crew I've come across. They seem to enjoy working together, and their comfortable attitude makes it a very laid back, welcoming gym to come to regularly. The machines are generally in good condition and clean, and the clientele is here to work out, and minds their own business. There seems to be more young women who feel comfortable coming to this gym than others as well. Great work guys!

I’ve been coming to this gym for a little over 6 months now and I can honestly say, this was by far the easiest gym I have ever been able to get acclimated to, the staff is very welcoming and friendly and always greet you when you come in, the atmosphere is so comfortable and relaxing, it is a great gym.
I had a problem with my account that was able to get squared away quickly and efficiently by the manager.
