Impossible to get out of the membership. You have to follow 3,000 steps and may even be charged a fee. I cancelled my membership months ago and even received a confirmation it was cancelled, come to find out they sent my nonexistent “balance” to a collection agency. My card was never even attempted to be charged after cancelling but somehow I have a balance. The gym itself is nice but the membership trap is bs.

I have been going to this gym for about 2 years or so, i go in for about an hour, I leave my weights where i find them, I dont leave trash behind, i dont film myself, i keep to myself, I jot down my reps, weights, workout names on my phone but in this occasion I havent been to the gym in awhile, so I was doing full body (light weights) but looking at my past notes to see the amount of weights i did last time. I was doing leg extensions and this so called trainer said out loud to the man she was training about me and this other guy (that i dont know) about how we were using our phones in a complaining manner. I didnt say anything at first but she had to tell the person she was training again “dont be like them” while he was using his phone. I confronted her and told her she didnt have to talk about us, if she needed the equipment she could of asked nicely. We exchanged a few words and I left. My target rest was about 1 minute and 30 seconds for most workouts and some were about 2 minutes because like I mentioned I havent been to the gym for awhile and i did not want to go to overboard my first day back. She jumped to conclusions, was unapologetic and simply unprofessional.

Used to be a great gym. Then they sold all the awesome professional grade American made Hammer Strength & Life Fitness equipment & replaced it with cheap budget grade made in China nautilus/bowflex equipment at all 3 locations. The new equipment is garbage & doesn’t make for a good workout. A lot of people including us say they only use dumbbells & free weights now but even the new benches are crappy.

Also if you leave any of your belongings unattended they may get stolen now. Didn’t used to be that way here.

If you're considering a membership at 10 Star Fitness, I’d really think twice. And if you ever want to cancel? Good luck with that. It’s a long, frustrating process with hidden fees and unnecessary hoops to jump through. You must go through multiple email requests and meet highly specific standards to qualify for someone who is eligible for “Cancellation due to move” or “Cancellation due Medical condition”. Its B.S. To make matters worse they drag on email responses, on purpose so you can continue to pay that monthly membership fee. On top of that, the gym’s equipment is outdated, and for what you’re paying, it just doesn’t feel worth it. I never make posts like these, but this is a scam at its finest. Here are the highly specific standards I’m talking about. What a joke!

Cancellation due to move:

· You must move your residence 50 miles or more from club facility.

· You must provide sufficient proof that you are moving. Please send in one of the following:

o New lease agreement in the member’s name signed by member and lessor.

o New utility hook-up or utility bill in member’s name.

o Newly issued driver’s license.

o Copy of a one-way plane ticket with copy of visa or green card.

o PCS orders – boot camp and basic training are accepted.

o Letter from employer (must be on letterhead), along with a copy of a pay stub.

o Letter from employer (must be on letterhead) and copy of corporate lease/extended hotel stay paperwork.

o Closing papers on a purchase of a new home.

o Students—must send in a copy of a class schedule and tuition receipt (must be on letterhead).

· Payments will continue on the membership agreement until the sufficient proof of move is received.

· No notice is required; ABC may cancel immediately after receiving the correct proof.

Cancellation due to Medical Condition:

· Cancellation is allowed for a permanent disability.

· Provide a letter from your physician stating you have a permanent disability.

· Must be on letterhead and signed by the physician with a phone number to call and verify information if needed.

· Payments will continue until the proper document is received from your physician.

· No notice is required; ABC may cancel immediately after receiving the correct proof.

Buyout Option:

· You must provide a 30-day verbal or written notice.

· The postmark date or date of the phone call will begin the 30-day period.

· You are responsible for any payments during the 30-day period.

· Written notices must state that you are canceling under the buyout option.

· A buyout fee of $59.00 is also required.

The women's sauna is right next to the daycare. I usually hear kids running rampant, yelling extremely loudly from it as well as loud thumping from the equipment used that'son the floor above it. Today a baby was screeching at the top of its lungs for a good 10 minutes+ hence me jumping on here to give girls a heads up who are thinking of joining. The gym has an old sweat stench to it. The employees are awesome on the plus side.

It’s amazing they are able to get away with this it should be illegal. You have to call the gym and then they send you instructions on how to cancel over email. You have to send an email to a different email address saying you want to cancel, then you have to wait for them to process your request. 3-5 business days later they send more instructions on how to cancel. If you very carefully complete all the steps and wait a total of about 2 weeks, you can cancel your membership. Every other gym I’ve ever been to is super quick and easy. This place is the worst

I made a phone call to cancel the membership in November and i was connected to the lady who i did not know her name. She said okay but in Dec i still see my account was charged membership again. So I called them again and talked to manager. He told me that i had to cancel online by emailing them and i did. Couple of days later i got an email saying that my memebership status is pending and i will be charged till Feb 23 which i wanted to cancel back in November. My question is why the lady did not tell me from the beginning that i had to cancel online. And the second thing is i did online and why it takes 2 months to cancel it.

Update: Since the remodel, all of the equipment is fantastic. They still could use some new 45 lb barbells, as half of them have some sort of warp to them, although minor... They will charge you fees on fees if you need to cancel and switch memberships. $120 just to switch from the deluxe membership to the basic one. It seems they don't make exceptions for people even if you still want to commit to the gym. I would recommend going to one of the other gyms in the area. This one is really dirty anyway, and the locker rooms are too tiny.

There were few issues I had with the gym until I went to cancel my membership. I had the month to month and was told I could not cancel at the gym but had to email a third party and wait for a reply which was a disaster. The third party tried telling me that I was responsible for paying my membership until 01/09/2025. When I went back to the gym trying to ask them for clarification on what the cancelation policy was the person at the front desk said they didn't know and he wasn't sure what answer I was expecting to hear. I asked him to put in my file a request for the manager of the gym to contact me so I could get some help in getting a straight answer and still have not received a call from them. I went online to the myclub site to try and find the terms which were not clearly stated in my agreement. I had to go to the 10 star website and act like I was trying to create a new membership to find that the policy is only 30 days to then have to call the third party for them to uphold their agreement and not charge me. Nice to know that this place and the third party they use only care about getting $$$ and not helping.

I have been a member for 5 plus years and was wanting to change how I paid my monthly dues. I called ABC Fitness the company they use for their membership services. They informed me that all i needed to do was to go to 10 Star and have the information changed. When I got there I was informed that they do not expect Silver Sneakers. I am over 65 and on a fixed income and need to save when I can. So I canceled my membership and now will go to Crunch Gym, Anytime Gym, Frim Gym, Iron House Gym and the many other fitness centers that except Silver Sneakers.

Personally I believe this is the best gym around. They are one of the only gyms that has an affordable, no contract, paid in full option. The basic I believe is $230 and they gave me an extra month, so that's 13 months for $230 or roughly $18 a month.
I've been to lots of other gyms to try and find something better, and I simply can't.

Additionally, just last week they got ALL NEW equipment in the weight room. I'm talking all new plates, all new benches, new squat racks and THREE deadlift platforms (attached to the squat racks).

Even the Gold's gym I went to only had 1 deadlift platform, and they want more then double what 10 star asks. I am a powerlifter so this is a huge positive for me.

My only gripe is I can't use chalk, but I get it. People can be disrespectful and make huge messes with chalk. I just use straps and when it gets close to a meet I'll train my grip another way.

I see a lot of bad reviews referring to the contract being hard to cancel, but that's the main reason I like this gym so much. Save up $230 and you're good for over a year with no worries about trying to cancel or them charging you endlessly.

A+ would recommend this gym to any lifter, beginner, intermediate, or advanced.

My last name is Waugh. I signed my son and myself in a No contract agreement. Since January 2024 I have been asking them to stop charging my account. They did stop charging my account but, just for me. They keep charging for my son. I email, called and now they tell me that he has a contract till July 2024, and that he has to cancel, not me. He is a minor, I had to sign him in and now I can’t cancel it? Sounds like an abuse to me. Went to the bank and they told me that lots of their clients have the same situation. I like how someone did a pros and cons post, so I’m going to do my own.

Pros: Pretty big gym with a lot of variety and weights. There’s multiples of a lot of stuff, so you won’t have to sit around, waiting to have an effective workout. Really found it to be one of my fav gyms in the area, up there with Anytime Fit in Boiling Springs and Greer. The group classes are fun and engaging with encouraging instructors!

Cons: As some have said before, the equipment can be on the well worn side, but often times, it has no affect on the use. They do a good job of posting signs on equipment that needs repair and fixing equipment in decent time.

The biggest disaster is their affiliation with ABC Fitness. ABC Fitness has a setup where it is impossible to cancel. Not even exaggerating. I’ll spare details, but listen, WHEN YOU SIGN UP WITH THIS GYM, USE YOUR DEBIT CARD INFO. You’ll be told to use/you have to use your routing and account number. You don’t. My gf used her debit card info, had an easier time removing her card info from ABC Fitness website, and didn’t have any additional, false charges to her account.

Cons: Equipment is pretty old and worn out, locker room, showers, and bathrooms are absolutely disgusting. The floors are always dirty, the walls are pealing, theres always toilet paper on the ground, I feel disgusted touching anything in their locker rooms. Also they have no mirrors in the locker rooms so you can’t even take progress pictures or pose.
Also, they made it very difficult to cancel your membership. You can’t do it at the gym, you have to call somebody, complete a form on a random website, send an email and then i was charged a $30 fee even though i wasn't on a yearly plan. “cancel any time” wasn't true.

Place is filthy. Roaches in the bathroom ceiling. The place has a strong moldy odor. It's too moist. The plates are hard to slide on the barbell. Equipment always broken. Cancelling the membership is another story. Tried to cancel three months ago, but asked the desk if it was in process and there was no indication. There was also two instances of harassment towards my party, but the owner decides to cancel my party's membership. If you have a mental illness, this place will support you so please go here. Also, this place stole a belt from a bereaved parent that was in memory of their son. No other gym has ever done this. This place is truly disgusting. They use their cameras when a mentally ill person has an issue (they caused) but not for a bereaved parent to reclaim their property. 'arur

Dirtiest gym I’ve ever been to , equipment is always broke . On sat nobody comes so trash is always in floor running out the cans . Bathroom is a nightmare

I been coming here about 3 years and I highly recommend. Its very Spacious , people are considerate and respectful. Staff are friendly and helpful. The monthly and yearly price is unbelievable .Come see what you pay for weight training , treadmills Classes , trainers , saunas, child care. If you want to avoid crowds and can workout in the mornings , but it always open so what ever suits you go for it. Updated some equipment recently

You may encounter some rude people during certain hours of the day as well as a very unfriendly lady gym director. While this gym price may seem like a great deal it’s just something to keep in mind.

If you’re looking for a cheap membership and you can tune all of that out like I do because of their low gym price then it’s a gym to consider.

I was first introduced to Ten Star back when it was Coops in 2013 and loved it. However, I have been out of SC for almost 1.5 years and have been trying to cancel my membership there since then and they continue to charge me. If you'd like to be charged for a membership you cannot use due to being four hours away, this place is for you. Extremely disappointed is an understatement.

My payment didn’t go through and I had some stuff mess up, I emailed management (William) and he took care of it super fast with great professionalism. Not only that but I love this gym and the amount of equipment it offers.

I did enjoy this gym. Then I became a cliche and didn’t cancel for two years even though I wasn’t going. COMPLETELY my fault. When I did go to cancel I went through a 10 minute phone call verifying who I was just to be hung up on. Finish that phone call and am told I will be expected to pay another month in order to cancel. Finally am able create the account to request the cancel and I’m informed I’ll actually be expected to pay a month plus $49.99. It cost me $87 and some change to cancel. It’s uncalled for. 10/10 would recommend planet fitness over 10 star for this fact alone.

I emailed ABC solutions to cancel my membership and was charged for annual charge on the date it was supposed to expire. After multiple calls I was told to take up the matter with my club. I emailed management (William) and he quickly responded saying he would take care of the matter. Very professional and kind business practice in my opinion! Thank you

When are you going to fix any of the equipment? All the cardio machines are rusted or broken. The cable machines all have extreme slack in the cables or torn up. Bath room and filth all around the gym. 10 star use to be worth ten stars back in 2017 now you're only worth a star. Fix your machines.

I went as a visitor with my sister and was not impressed with the facilities cleanliness. The real disappointment though, was how they treated her when she tried to cancel her membership. They refused to refund her money even though she let them know well in advance, repeatedly. Terribe business practice.
