I recently moved to Greenville, and was searching for a Pilates studio near me. I have been doing Pilates for 7+ years with another well known company, and it never truly felt like a good workout oddly enough ….

My class today with Brenda was absolutely incredible. It was genuinely a good and hard workout - from start to finish, I was being challenged! I cannot wait to go back and get a membership. :)

I cannot recommend body bar enough!! I’ve been going for 6 months now and my physical body and mental health have changed drastically! I move throughout my day with more energy, I feel stronger, I feel happier and more confident. I started the class in May wearing size 8 jeans, I’m now down to a size 2. I never expected Pilates to change my life as much as it has! Emma and Emily (and of course Emily’s service dog, Addy) are my favorite instructors. Their classes are incredible. I’ve never spent money on gym memberships or classes, so I was hesitant at first to purchase the unlimited package. However, I could never see myself not having it now. If you’re on the fence, it’s an investment in your health and has been 100% worth it!!

I was super nervous going in because I had zero experience with Pilates, but Brenda was incredibly kind, patient, and welcoming from the start. She made me feel completely comfortable even though I had no clue what I was doing. She gave me helpful corrections throughout the class without ever making me feel self-conscious, and her energy was so positive and encouraging. I honestly had such a great time, way better than I expected! Thanks to Brenda, I’m actually looking forward to coming back and continuing my Pilates journey. Highly recommend her to anyone, especially beginners!

Review of Bodybar Pilates
⭐ 1 out of 5 stars

Would have given Zero Stars but unfortunately it is not available so even though One Star is way too generous it is the only choice here.

Bodybar Pilates presents itself as sleek and professional, but don’t be fooled—beneath the surface is a culture of negligence, poor training, and complete disregard for client safety or well-being.

A serious injury occurred to my daughter during her first class due to inadequate instruction and a total lack of attention from the staff. Despite it being painfully obvious that someone in the class was a beginner, the instructor offered no meaningful guidance, no supervision, and no modifications. The attitude seemed to be: sink or swim—on your own.

That alone would be enough to avoid this place. But what truly sets Bodybar apart—in the worst way—is how they responded. Not with concern, not with accountability, but with cold indifference. No apology, no follow-up, no acknowledgment of fault. Just an astonishing display of arrogance, defensiveness, and victim blaming as if customer safety is a nuisance they’d rather not be bothered with.

Their obsession with image clearly outweighs any genuine commitment to care. Bodybar may look polished, but if you value professionalism, responsibility, or even basic empathy, look elsewhere. There are far better studios where teaching is competent, staff are attentive, with instructors who actually pay attention, management that doesn’t treat injury and concern like an inconvenience and where human decency isn't optional.

Bodybar is not one of them! Avoid at all costs.

Reply to the owner's response:

Thank you for your response.

Unfortunately, it only reinforces the very issue we’ve raised from the beginning—your studio’s persistent refusal to acknowledge any responsibility, instead choosing to blame the victim for what was clearly a safety lapse on your part.

Yes, my daughter was the only one in the class to grab the incorrect piece of equipment—but she was also the only beginner in a group of more experienced clients and, as such, should have been more closely observed by the instructor. If a clearly visible piece of equipment, not stored away, as you state but is rather next to the one intended for use, (both are elements of the same machine), posed a safety risk when handled, it should not have been accessible at all—certainly not without warning or supervision. The burden of creating a safe environment lies with the studio, not the clients.

There was never an offer to refund the class that day. In fact, a refund was never our goal. All that we were hoping for is an acknowledgement of the problem and a symbolic gesture of apology to the young lady who suffered a significant injury at the studio. However, when we brought up the issue during our forced in-person visit to the studio since nobody responded to the two emails sent right after the incident, we were met with hostility and dismissed without any concern for her well-being. We were not “offered a refund”—we were effectively chased out. The refund we ultimately received came not from Bodybar, but from our credit card provider after they reviewed our documentation and ruled in our favor.

This continued insistence on denying fault and shifting blame is exactly why the review stands. It’s a reflection of our experience—one that we feel others deserve to know about before trusting your studio with their safety.

If I could leave zero stars I would. My friends and I booked a Pilates class for my birthday. I called to inform them that we would be running a few minutes late as my friends were traveling from out of state. The young lady I spoke with via phone never mentioned the grace period. When we arrived we were denied entry and I was told that she was unable to process a refund for the class. Not only did she deny me a refund but she was very rude and flippant about the situation not once offering an alternative or rescheduled class option. I will NEVER use this location again as customer service this poor is unacceptable, especially when someone is celebrating their birthday.

Response: I did NOT use a free credit and can provide you with a receipt of payment so that you can issue a full refund. I am more than happy to contact corporate if needed.

I went to a class thinking it would be a cake walk… I was extremely humbled!

Caroline was the instructor, she is extremely knowledgeable, great at cueing beginners and advanced people. Not only did she explain how to preform the exercises, she explained why it was helpful and added a little anatomy too. I didn’t know it would “hurt so good”. This establishment is incredible. They modified workouts for all people, treated all people with respect and have a very cheerful sense of community. Keep up the great work Bodybar!

I’ve been going to BODYBAR since October 2024, and the transformation in my Pilates journey has been incredible! I love starting my mornings with Classic classes led by Em, Emma, and Brenda. Emily M. is an amazing instructor—her energy, playlists, and thoughtfully structured classes always set the perfect tone for my day. I especially look forward to her Monday 7 AM Classic and Friday 7 AM Power Tower classes; each one brings a fresh challenge.

Emma is a newer instructor for me, but she has already encouraged me to advance to Reformer, which I’m truly enjoying. And Ms. Brenda… wow! She pushes every student to their full potential, and I credit her for much of my progress so far.

I can’t forget about Daisy at the front desk—she embodies warmth and hospitality, making every member feel valued the moment they walk in. She greets everyone by name, every single time!

My experience at BODYBAR GVL has been nothing short of amazing!

I love BodyBar. I attended their open house when the studio first opened in August. I went alone, and from the moment I stepped in, I was welcomed and introduced to some of the lovely instructors.

I signed up for a membership and haven't looked back since. The studio is beautiful, clean, and welcoming. The instructors are wonderful and accommodating of any injuries and limitations. I love the schedule and the option of different styles of class. Also super fun that there's always something special going on the different holidays!

BodyBar has gifted me with the joy of movement and exercise. Not only does it help my physical body, but it also eases and calms my mind. I can't recommend them highly enough!

I’ve been going 1-2 times per week for the last 3 or so months and I LOVE this studio! I was intimidated by the idea of Pilates, and especially reformer Pilates, but I immediately felt comfortable and welcome in the space. I’ve taken nearly every instructor now and I’ve never had a bad experience. The classes evolve with you and no matter how many times I go I’m always challenged, and never bored. I love the variety of class days and times, but tend to gravitate to Emma’s early morning classes because of my schedule and she is amazing!!!

I can see a clear difference in my body, my balance, and the things I’m able to do in class now that weren’t a possibility for me during my first class. I’ve also noticed that they always have enough classes that you can find a spot - some of the other local studios seem to book up quickly, but if I join the wait list here I always make it in!

I’ve been searching for a Pilates studio and decided to try BodyBar. They offer a free first class, which is a great perk, and the studio has a beautiful ambiance with friendly staff. However, parking is a hassle since there’s no designated lot, so you may have to pay or compete for a spot.

Unfortunately, I didn’t end up taking a class, and it felt like a complete waste of time. Their liability waiver includes a photo and video release form that gives them permission to use your image for anything, including social media, their website, etc. As a model and content creator, I cannot sign this for business reasons. When I asked about it, the manager told the desk staff they only post on stories and don’t take photos or videos during class. However, you have to go by what the waiver says, not by word of mouth.

This policy could easily catch people off guard, especially those who don’t want to be on camera or don’t notice the release in the fine print. I recommend the studio allow clients to opt out of the photo release and send waivers ahead of time to avoid wasting people’s time.

Like many of you folk creepin on this review I'd heard many mythic tales of 'reformer pilates.' Alot of tik tok girlies rave about it, you may stalk a celeb or too who swears by it (looking at you and your immaculate waistline Lori Harvey) but you may not have known anyone who'd done it to vouch for how fire it is

That's what I'm posting for. Hope it helps ya out fam :)

TLDR: yes its fire. yes you'll love it. yes its pricy but YES its worth it.

The first class is free and I highly recommend you use that free class on trying out reformers pilates.

The Reformer Class was:
-challenging in a way that you've likely never challenged yourself before- but manageable. I have an athletic background and consider myself in solid shape but I went home and laid on the floor after the class lol. The pace of the class, the combination of exercises + use of the reformer/equipment and the way your body weight etc are incorporated is truly incomparable. It was both the most challenging workout I've done (without the use of heavy weights) and also the most FUN I've EVER had working out?????

-FUN. Those 50 minutes fly by

-Fast paced, but you can still go at your own pace. You can rest, slow down, and pace yourself without feeling like a social pariah for doing so. Some pilates classes I've been to I would have rather died than let the group know I couldn't hang. This studio is not like that. The general vibe of the class is very uplifting & motivating.

-You get a few variations for every exercise to either make it easy or more challenging for yourself depending on your ability.

-The studio mantra is 'get comfortable being uncomfortable' and thats likely going to be your first experience to a T but the burn is so worth it!!! Was honestly the first time I've ever left a workout feeling both sore but energized and actively ready to hop into my workday instead of drained & ready to fight lmao.

-They have 14 (?) reformers in the studio and reformer classes seem to fill quickly. If you're used to pilates being a more intimate/small group experience and prefer that that it may feel excessive (in my previous pilates classes it was always >10 people) I get energy from being around others so I personally found that amount to be just the right balance between an intimate class & a group one. However some of you reading may prefer smaller classes in order to get more dedicated attention and thats fair.

-Jasmine was my instructor for my first class and she was PHENOMENAL!!!! She was very mobile throughout the class and everywhere- correcting forms, checking in, cracking jokes and was clearly very knowledgeable. Even though I was in a full class of moving bodies she was very eagle eyed and super attentive. I'm sure the other instructors are equally awesome but she made my first experience an amazing one :) Hope you get an extra check from the shout out Jasmine!

Aesthetically Body Bar is also cute af. Its right next door to a starbucks. It'll make you want to buy cute outfits JUST to do pilates in. You will want to post and tell everyone you know you've done a class here, the overall experience + the general vibes of the studio are that compelling. I've already told 5 people with WAY too much enthusiasm I did a class here. Embrace it. let the good vibes roll!

-After my free class I went home and immediately purchased the unlimited package. I'm not normally a 'classes' girl but that ONE class made a believer out of me. I was sore from using muscles I didn't know I had in ways I didn't expect but I can already tell a couple months from now my summer shape is going to be ️‍🔥️‍🔥️‍🔥

Great places for beginners and pros!
If you’re a first timer, I’d suggest you try Caroline’s classic class, she’s awesome at explaining how to move and the clarity of her voice makes it really easy to understand what it is that you’re supposed to do, she’s also amazing at encouraging you to keep going, and she’ll make you feel very welcome!.
I love her classes, she’s the sweetest!!

If you are already familiar with Pilates, definitely book a reformers class with Brenda, she’s GREAT, she’ll make you SWEAT!!. She’s always adding new movements to the routines which is awesome because you get to learn and see all the things your body is capable of, she makes it Challenging and I LOVE IT!!

Emily and Shelby are great too, they’re classes are fun and I’d recommend theirs for days where you want more then classic but less then Brenda’s reformers lol. I LOVE THEIR PLAYLISTS!!. They have the best playlists there!

All the other instructor are really good too, the ones mentioned are just the ones I see the most, because I can usually only go in to the last class of the day.

The girls working at the front desk are also always welcoming and always greet you with your name, I love that!!. I wish I had asked for theirs the first time I met them because now I’m embarrassed to ask lol.

Overall I love this place, the environment is always welcoming, and I have always felt comfortable and confident when I’m at the studio. They keep the studio very clean, and looking pretty for the pics!!!

Highly recommend you try Pilates here, especially if it is your first time! I had never tried it before and I was so excited to try it at the Body Bar. I did the Reformer class with Coach Caroline and she was so sweet, helpful, and an amazing coach during the class. The Reformer class was not easy because it is very fast paced and similar to HIIT mixed with yoga, but Caroline made sure I fit right in and was doing each movement correctly. If you regularly lift weights, stretch, and focus on flexibility this class will probably be easier. I recommend getting there 15 minutes before class to buy the $12 grip socks. Parking is not easy to find unless it’s Monday-Thursday before 5 pm & a parallel parking spot near the studio. If it a busy traffic time options are paid parking in nearby private parking lots or paid parking garages.
