This gym was pretty solid for a lift. Currently weeks out from a show and need a gym to hit legs while traveling. Was able to get a good leg pump just off a day pass. It’s an ol stool iron weight gym. No thrills or special lighting. Equipment is a bit dated but very usable. I didn’t have any issues with any accessories outside of the leg extension… but not major. Definitely will be back if I’m ever in the area and need to lift

I will drive 100 miles before I experience customer service like this again.
worst experienced of any business establishment I’ve witnessed in my life. Kid working front desk is not capable to say the least. Headphones in watching something on his phone while we are standing there for a few minutes he points to clipboard and doesn’t say a word. My son (age 15) did online homework saw a student rate of $45/month. We came in there to ask a few questions as new residents here in HH inquiring student memberships
Obnoxiously annoyed that I was interupting his phone time to ask about membership and student rate my son researched online snapped at me while turning down his phone volume in horrible tone that’s for college students only. “Can we get a tour and look around?” Was answered with. “Do you want 3 day passes or not “ and his focus went right back to phone while my wife and I were dumbfounded.
I’ve had to use gyms my entire career as a professional tennis player and coach. We travel on tour full time and have been to over 30 different gyms the past three months with My 15 year old son who loves to lift everyday. We are members of crunch, 24/7 fitness and some small local gyms everywhere. We travel internationally and can’t recall pathetic customer service in any culture like this.
Anyone looking for a job go apply here bc they need help.
When you go out of business soon please hit me bc I’d like to purchase the few rusted olympic bars you have plus your benches with holes and rips in them. That’s truly my kind of style. However kids with attitudes that can’t put phones down to do their jobs is not. Disgusting

staff is friendly and owned locally. However there is too much equipment, not enough space to walk. Equipment is also old and there are holes in the walls, not pretty to look at.

Currently visiting for a wedding and staying at 'Beach House Resort Hilton Head' where I was told we got a free workout if we went to Breakthrough Fitness Center a few minutes away.
Breakthrough Fitness Center is awesome for experienced lifters. It's not the standard bumper plate gym with all the fancy machines. This is a Ronnie Coleman style, iron weights gym that when you're lifting and working out, you feel like you're getting that extra pump.
It's got those big industrial fans going 24/7 so after a sick set you can get in there and cool off.
There's something really awesome about these older gyms that are still using bodybuilder equipment. Something about character and some extra grit.
Locker rooms were also pretty nice. Sauna was open and up to great temperature. The steam room was unfortunately out of service, so I cannot comment on how well that works.
They had a coffee machine with fresh coffee that it appeared the members were welcome too.
They offered to make protein shakes for ~$5, which isn't a bad deal compared to some of the places around here.
Overall, if you're an avid lifter and need to get a solid pump, this is a great place to go!

Decent gym gets the job done. Worth it for the hours, equipment could be slightly better. Very worn and rusted, some pices are falling apart.

A great gym for weightlifters on vacation in HHI. Was on vacation and this place was solid with that old school / Arnold appeal. Definitely right at home with my training and all the equipment you could need to train right. Staff was friendly and the price was very reasonable.

I recently visited Breakthrough Fitness in Hilton Head while on vacation, and I couldn't be more impressed. From the moment I walked in, the owner, Phil, was super friendly and welcoming. His warm demeanor made me feel right at home, even though I was just visiting.
The gym's location is incredibly convenient. It's bikeable in just a few minutes from Coligny, making it easily accessible. Plus, it's centrally located on the island, so no matter where you're staying, it's a short trip.
The cleanliness of the gym and locker rooms really stood out to me. Everything was spotless, and they offered towel service, which was a nice touch. There was also a great selection of protein shakes and supplements available, which is perfect for post-workout refueling.
As for the equipment, there was plenty to go around. Whether you're into cardio, weightlifting, or functional fitness, Breakthrough Fitness has it all. I never had to wait for a machine or piece of equipment, even during peak hours.
Overall, my experience at Breakthrough Fitness was fantastic. Phil and his team have created a top-notch facility that caters to both locals and visitors alike. If you're in Hilton Head, I highly recommend stopping by for a workout!

They have a lot of equipment for strength training, the cardio equipment is extremely old but the thing I can’t get past is the dirt. It’s there dirtiest gym I’ve seen and I’ve been to a lot of gyms!

Overall, it’s an okay place to train. If your goal is general fitness, it’s solid, but it’s definitely run down. All the barbells are extremely rusted, and most are bent. A $12 drop in fee is nice. But if you are looking to perform Olympic lifts or heavy deadlifts, this is not the place as everything is super congested and there is no deadlift or oly platform. Also, be prepared to sweat. It was about 70 degrees outside and felt close to 80+ inside this gym. The one fan I saw in there looked like it hadn’t been turned on or cleaned since maybe the 90s. Again, okay place to get a quick lift or cardio workout in given other options in the area, but definitely not clean, and not efficient or ideal for serious lifters

I have been weight lifting for 20ish years, so I was very very pleased to see the old style Gold’s/Powerhouse gym atmosphere. Tons of free weight options which was awesome. Unfortunately, some of the regulars who were “bodybuilders” were not the most accepting. I was an Olympic/Power style lifter when I was younger and then transitioned to strongman and to eventually Crossfit. I try to incorporate a lot of different variations of exercises into my workout. One member was obviously not a fan and eventually took a picture of me without saying a word. This coupled by his continual stares and faces while I was working out, was not something I was thrilled about.
Ultimately, I will be back since we vacation here often and the options are limited. I enjoyed the workouts but I’m sure my experiences will be the same each time.

Price is just okay for the value- weights, cardio, classes, sauna. Equipment is very old and some needs repaired. But wow do they need to do WAY more and better cleaning! What looks like months worth of grime is caked onto the bottom of the cardio machines. I won’t re-enroll if they don’t fix this problem.

I came to HH on vacation and wanted to find a gym that I could lift in. I am not a body builder, but I am a pretty serious lifter. I really enjoyed this gym as it has all the equipment I needed to continue my normal routine (bench, incline, squat rack, cable machines, leg press, dumbells, and numerous other specialty machines) . The gym was not real busy, but we came in off-season. I really liked the variety of equipment they had.

I love the facility and the old school equipment, the workers are very nice and accommodating, facility would have gotten 5 stars, however the manager/owner was very unrealistic and condescending. There was no Olympic lifting platform for athletes to perform deadlifts. Thus I took precaution to drag thick mats over to an area as well as place bumper plates on the barbell. I was performing my sets with a controlled eccentric. That being said, a controlled eccentric at 500 pounds is not going to be silent when it touches the floor. He told me "you guys are always slamming weights" I have never met this before in my life...
If you are a high level athlete steer clear of this facility, they don't want your business.

Nice, big gym with plenty of equipment! Checking in was very easy. Although the equipment is older and could be updated, they had every piece you could think of and plenty of space. Felt clean and the atmosphere was great! Good music, good temperature, everyone was very respectful and polite. Can't wait to workout here again!

It is a solid gym with a good drop in rate. Though there is some minor wear and tear, nothing is unsafe and the bars are fine. A dedicated gym goer (male or female) will find everything they need. Two good workouts while on vacation and will not hesitate to go back.

Great fitness center with all the equipment you could ask for, and helpful staff. But be prepared to sweat heavily the entire time and have trouble cooling down. A/C is lousy! I asked and was told it's set to 73 (obviously to save money). TAKE IT DOWN AT LEAST TWO DEGREES! I've only been there in Jan and Feb, and can only imagine what it's like in the spring and summer.

I have used this gym for many years and appreciate having a “full” facility like this on the island. It’s definitely looking worn out, but I can look past that since presently there are few, if any, alternatives. My primary disappointment is that you subscribe and pay only to find out that the steam sauna is (once again) out of order. Speaking to the gray-haired manager yielded nothing. Later in the week, when I inquired again his assistant remained clueless when I asked if it might be fixed - “No idea! The manager does the work on the steam sauna himself.” Which means he’s basically ignoring it. Very disappointed. Things break down. I understand. But it’s frustrating when it’s obvious that they basically don’t seem to care, and certainly don’t respond.
