About the Club

Traditional personal training happens one-on-one. Our founders, Will & Scott, have been working in this setting for over 10 years, and they decided that there's a better approach. Enter the Compass Fitness semi-private training method. In this style of training, you experience the benefits of working with a trainer while building a sense of community and empowerment through others achievements.
Semi-private training means that you get all the benefits of a customized fitness plan and time spent with an expert trainer, but you share the training floor with up to four others.

From a holistic view, Compass Fitness is by far the best bang for your buck for personal training in the Charleston Area. The gym has a little bit of something for everybody with great equipment and a variety of training programs that will keep you coming back for more. Furthermore, the team (Will and Scott) are kind and knowledgeable. They were always willing to go above and beyond to answer my questions in depth. When I started I was having major issues with my feet hurting after any physical activity, even walking, which made working out difficult. Will & Scott tailored my program so I could begin to strengthen my feet, and really my whole body. Now I can walk for long distances & exercise without experiencing that pain. I can't speak highly enough about Compass Fitness! They've got two trainers on staff. Both are extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and kind.

I've never belonged to a gym or anything like this. I came here after some physical therapy for back surgery. I was not in good shape to say the least. Will and Scott put me with people closest to my abilities. They created a personalized exercise routine that looked after my back. It has changed as I've become stronger and healthier. Daily I feel much better now than when I joined Compass.

Compass Fitness has a highly encouraging and supportive atmosphere. Signing up was the greatest thing I've done for myself in a while. I look forward to Tuesday and Thursday mornings. I'd recommend Compass to anyone!

I have been training with Compass Fitness since November 2021. I love their unique approach to personal training in that you get the personal training expertise, experience, and plans without the high price tag and 1:1 personal space invasion. I wasn't sure if I would like the shared space and trainer approach at first. As it turns out, its a great option for me. I appreciate the effort and detail that goes into planning each workout on paper and in the physical space. Additionally, they provide an at home independent program for those days I'm not in the training studio. Scott and Will both do a great job at making everyone feel comfortable and being accessible. Another pro to working with Compass Fitness its their contract flexibility. You're not locked into a contract that feels impossible to get out of. If life happens or your financial situation changes, it would be easy enough to change/cancel your training plan. I 100% recommend Compass Fitness to anyone looking for solid personal training in the Charleston/West Ashley area.

I have been going to gyms and personal trainers for over 30 years and I have found my home with Compass Fitness! As a young 70 year old who has paddled a dragon boat for over 16 years I have had shoulder injuries as well as knee issues and have had an on again and off again love/hate relationship with gyms and personal trainers. I was always ending up having to take time off for shoulders/knees to heal because of poor alignment during my exercises. Not ANY MORE! Will and Scott are there 100% of the time and I don't know how they do it but they can always tell when my body is not properly aligned and immediately and gently get me to readjust my positioning whether it is my athletic stance, knees going too far one way or another, etc. always helping me make very slight adjustments so I don't re-injury myself.

They are truly concerned about each one of us as individuals and they take the time each time I go in to ask me how my body is feeling and if I have any issues, they quickly readjust my routine for that day or for a week or whatever I need to get back on track. Their plan is perfect for me and what I want to accomplish.

I am a retired nurse and this pandemic made me very concerned about going back to gyms but compass fitness's approach to infection control and prevention is second to none. They make sure all equipment is wiped down with disinfectant between clients as well as vacuuming and cleaning the floor with a disinfectant in between classes.

Their classes do not exceed 4 people at a time so plenty of focus and oversight is there to make sure we are all doing our routines as they were designed. They have a very easy way of letting us know when we need to reposition or realign what we are doing. They are always upbeat, encouraging, positive about building my routine for my "whys"! They encourage me to encourage myself and feel good about what I am doing in my fitness goals. No words can thank them enough for what they have done for me over this past year! I have found my new gym home!

I joined Compass Fitness in February of 2021 as I graduated from physical therapy after knee surgery. I joined Compass fitness for a few reasons. I had some old injuries from Crossfit many years back that needed a targeted workout plan to get back into shape. I like that they have a clearly defined space with excellent cleaning and adequate space between trainees. It feels like a secure place to workout during the pandemic. And lastly, Will and Scott aren’t the type of trainer that try to make you puke or be unable to move for 3 days. They are very knowledgeable and help guide you to reach your health and/or fitness goals. After I joined, all my workouts have been tailored to my strengths and weaknesses. The exercise programs they individualize are varied and progressive so you don’t get bored. All the equipment is new in a new facility. I’ve been with Compass fitness for about 6-7 weeks and I’ve been able to show consistent progress every session toward the goals we set on initiation. No complaints, only wish I had joined sooner

I've been working with Will Sunner for nearly a year. He's far and away the best trainer I've ever had. As a couch potato in need of a firm and enthusiastic push, he always seems to strike the right tone for me. I've also watched him work with all types, from serious athletes to the nearly disabled, and seen how he tailors his approach to the individual. This is not a cookie cutter approach in a big gym, but a truly tailored program.

Scott and Will are unlike any trainers I've ever met. They listen to you, find out what your goals are and take the best route to get you there. They know how to work around injuries, limitations and just about anything else you can throw at them. They train athletes, weekend warriors or people just getting back in the swing of things. I've seen them do wonderful things and their workouts are amazing! If you don't train with them, you're doing yourself a huge disservice.

They change up the routine so I never get bored (the trainers are so entertaining, it would be hard to get board) and they make me work very hard -- but not so hard that I want to quit. The announcement of our daughter's wedding was, for me, an excellent excuse to lose those unwanted pounds and get as physically fit as possible. I thought I could do it on my own (why not?.......I had a year to remake myself). I thought I knew all the tricks as I'd always been active and had personal trainers in the past. Wrong! What I hadn't realized was that as I've aged, my body no longer responded as it had in the past. It was at this point that I realized I needed an expert who could provide that extra push, design a specific program, and hold me accountable for my nutrition. Enter Will Sunner! Will has worked with me for approximately two months. I meet with him three times a week and for those three sessions, I get an incredible workout which has been specifically tailored for me. It's exhausting, yet exhilarating, as Will pushes me to my limit without compromising my physical issues (multiple hip/knee replacements). To date, I have lost two pant sizes, lost approximately 10 lbs, and feel terrific!!

I saw a Compass Fitness Facebook event for a free group workout at the Mount Pleasant waterfront park and came by myself, not knowing anyone. The two trainers, Scott and Will, were unbelievably nice and welcoming. I used to run Division I track and they put together a great workout that was very challenging for me yet was able to be tailored for all levels. Really enjoyed meeting their other clients and became great friends with them! Highly recommend Compass Fitness for any type of training or event.
