Remodeling has occurred and new equipment has arrived. The equipment is higher end good stuff. The place looks great! Better maintenance and cleaning efforts are now evident. Not too crowded. Staff was always friendly and that is still the same. All they need to do now is keep up the good atmosphere!

If you value your wallet and basic respect, avoid Crunch. The gym is gross.
Managers Nick & Zada are highly rude and unprofessional. They charged me for 2 months after my membership was canceled within the 30day policy. When I asked for a refund, they accused me of lying even after I showed proof. Total waste of time. This gym is not worth it, save your money.

I really enjoy the atmosphere and the quality of the equipment. The barbell room is one of my favorite parts — it’s well set up and great for strength training.
That said, I think the gym would benefit a lot from some updates to the bathrooms. They tend to have an unpleasant smell and could really use a renovation or deeper cleaning routine.
Other than that, it’s a great gym with a solid community vibe!

Stay Away. Illegal practice. Ani & her manager just told me regardless of what my contract says - which is a 30-day cancellation policy - they WILL charge me for an entire additional month on the 23rd of August thereby requiring me to pay for 50 days and tlshe said "THERE IS NOTHING I CAN DO ABOUT IT". All employees are trained in this illegal practice (per Ani) where they steal your money. Her manager validated that they treat everyone this way.

Almost nothing good to say since the ownership change. Perpetually dirty, machines broken, HVAC system inoperable, bathrooms could have come out of a subway. Run away from this mess as fast as you.can. Please manager respond to to me and this post. And make it public. Thanks to the owner for a response. I appreciate the “anticipated” improvements, which have been promised for months, but that doesn’t excuse the lack of basic maintenance (HVAC, plumbing and painting) or cleanliness (sweeping, mopping, trash removal, paper towel replacement), all of which is lacking. Forget the big picture and focus on the details.
Can the owner please fix the HVAC system????
Ok, 10 months have passed since the big makeover was promised. Big announcement about opening today. Then another post about a delay. We’ll get back to you soon about the reopening. This is the most mismanaged place on the planet. Everyone in management should be let go. We’ll see what appears if it EVER reopens!

I ran into a customer service situation at our local location. I reached Nathan Scott who had nothing to do with it but was willing to help.
His customer service was beyond outstanding!!! Out of not being helped by 4 other locations, he resolved the issue and was beyond kind!!!
Amazing general manager!!!! Cannot say thank you enough.

Staff is nice enough but at some point Crunch needs to step and do what they have been saying for a while and fix up this place. The equipment is in terrible shape, fully a third of the treadmills don’t work, ripped cushions, no organization to the equipment, it’s in really poor condition. You read other reviews and this goes back a couple of years.
Thank you for your reply but it doesn’t take a permit to make sure the equipment works.

The gym recently raised its prices, yet the equipment remains outdated and poorly maintained. More concerning, the staff member responsible for opening the facility is frequently late—or doesn’t show up at all—leaving paying members locked out and forced to leave. These issues have been ongoing for some time, with no visible effort from management to resolve them. The lack of accountability, communication, and concern for member experience reflects poor management and a disregard for the people who support the business.

FALSE ADVERTISEMENT!!!!!! crunch Fitness is charging FULL PRICE !website says they have full amenities BUT THEY LIE! They have been charging full price for over a year proming a renovation. I wrote on their fb page asking questions and they blocked me . Crunch fitness cooperate NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE ! apparently they can charge for things you don't even have in the building while they inconvenience their customers by telling them they can drive 20 mins away to get to what they pay for.

Bought out around May 2024, all they have changed/ added till now with their "2.5 Million Dollar Renovation" is a new drink cooler and their new sign. The walls are still Pivotal Orange and Blue, mold is everywhere on the ceiling and by the water fountains (which are on their last legs), and not a single machine seems to have been replaced. There are broken machines everywhere and treadmills with slashed treads that are still on the floor. Outdoors there is a gross little swampy patch of AstroTurf with a tire that hasn't moved but only rotted more since O2 lived and died before Pivotal moved in. No mention of when they are starting the renovation except for their "We hope to by the end of the year" line which they have been parroting since they opened. Disgraceful, not worth the upcharge, filthy facility, disgusting restrooms, reduced hours, (Used to be 24 hours!!) and lack of proper AC (It's hot as hell in here in December as I am writing this on the bike). Do better Crunch, make me rewrite this review because it is just embarrassing to see the already bad Pivotal facility get worse with new management.
EDIT 5/23/25: 5 months later, no changes other than signage, same broken treadmills still on the floor. Same broken rower in the corner. Same orange and blue Pivotal walls. Still Pivotal marketing materials on the walls. No sign of when the renovations will start, they keep pushing it back. Crunch, give us a hard date. This gym is dated. They cleaned up some mold on the walls at least lol
**EDIT 2 6/09/25
IT IS HOT AS HELL IN HERE, FIX YOUR AC CRUNCH. I was also wrong about them cleaning the mold, at the water fountain they scrubbed it off where you can see it at first glance, if you look a little back it's still very much in the seam 🤢

I have never seen such a disgusting gym in my life. Absolutely filthy, moldy, equipment broken and never replaced. Garbage cans always overflowing, and now its been a week since they had any hand sanitizer. At a GYM! Heck, I could go on and on.
OTOH, the trainers are really good, but I am sure that they are a bit disappointed at the condition of the place.
Been here for over 2 years and its just gotten worse.

5/27/25 update:
Unfortunately nothing has changed since my previous post. I really want to write a good review soon. However, the equipment is still in bad shape and not being repaired. Overall the facility is substandard. Updates from owners is always that renovations will begin soon. You will see from their response to my last post, that renovations were to begin by the end of 2024. It is now the end of May 2025. I can only assume at this point that they either do not have the funds to perform the renovations based on low membership or cannot get permits. I also wonder how they are going to phase the renovations since this is an active fitness center? Will it be closed during this process?
Not much good to say. Equipment is outdated and in bad shape. Bathrooms are always dirty. Some machines are broken. Aerobics floor is in bad shape. They have been saying since early 2024 that renovations will begin soon with absolutely no details. This should not be called a Crunch Fitness location until it is renovated and the 10 year plus old equipment is replaced. It is even worse since they have shortened the hours and increased the membership costs.

Decent gym but the equipment needs upgrade/repair across the board. Updating my review 6 months later, certainly no equipment was added by the end of 2024 or at all in 2025. About half the treadmills are currently operational.

No improvement since Crunch took over from Pivotal Fitness, in fact much worse. Not only is it still filthy with broken equipment and lack of basic supplies, but now we have the added joy of hard selling training sessions. I actually feel bad for the trainers who
seem to be forced to upsell. They shortened open hours and increased prices. No paper in dirty locker rooms or on the exercise areas. It feels like the whole place is one big biohazard.

I've been going to this gym for a long time...since it was O2. It's gone downhill, unfortunately.
The equipment is run down: pads are cracked, machines bind and squeak. It's dirty and paper towels, for use in wiping down the equipment, are often empty. Toilets are often clogged.
And it's often VERY crowded...where getting access to all the equipment you want is challenging.

This gym has turned over numerous times each company promising improvement. Pivitol came through the best but then did not do the keep up. Crunch took over almost a year ago with zero improvements. Replaced Lesmill classes that were always full with crunch classes, which in my opinion don’t compare. Old and broken treadmills and the ones that work are likely dangerous . The place is dirty… really dirty and rarely supplied properly to wipe down machines . Mold everywhere. Ac either doesn’t work or it’s just not on. I feel like they are taking advantage of the convenience of the location in north Mount pleasant as there are no other choices . Please .. bring in another gym out this way . I’ll even take a boutique type gym.

It’s the worst. Full of teens horsing around. No one re-racks their weights or wipes sweat off the benches. Recently witnessed teens running around punching each other through the weight room around other gym-goers, while a staff person walked through watching and didn’t say a word to them. It’s 85 degrees inside when it’s only 70 outside. If equipment breaks, it just stays broken.

This place doesn’t even deserve the 1 star. If you are considering joining, DON’T. All talk and no action. Can’t even take care of what they have. I feel so sorry for the trainers whose livelihood depends on this facility. I’ve been a member here for years and it’s done nothing to advance, environment, equipment or temperature now for that matter. Broken AC for weeks and no effort to fix it. It’s gonna take someone getting a heatstroke before they tend to it. Sorry for the real review but you had it coming.

I agree with all of the other recent reviews. Crunch has done a terrible job since taking over. Equipment is broken and not being fixed. It is very dirty too. It's a shame because N. Mount Pleasant needs a good gym. Crunch is not it though!
Update as of 04/07/25. Renovations have still not begun even though they have been talked about for several months. And to top it off, the air condition has been broken for weeks. I don't understand how any member could possibly give a 5 star review. The trainers may be the only positive aspect of the gym.

The HVAC has not worked for well over a month. Temperatures upstairs have been over 80F and the gym overall has been in a decline ever since Crunch took over. Asked staff and have had several different responses to why the AC is broke and not being fixed. Summer is coming and the humidity will make this place unbearable. I know renovations are supposed to be happening soon but in the meantime can you not replace ripped benches and brown equipment? Please make it better for all the people paying monthly to use the facilities that are less than what they deserve.

Just decided to rejoin Crunch at the Parkwest location as it's closer. However, this is still old broken down Equipment from the Old pivotal fitness location from South Mount Pleasant! The floors are disgusting, and the restroom/ locker room is nasty. Trash all over the floors, maybe one set of paper towels to wipe down Equipment. I only saw one person on staff day 1, and the second day front desk had on headphones and couldn't hear me. Fees are outrageous, spin room is way too packed with old bikes definitely hazardous!! The room smelled awful. None of the sanitizer dispensers were filled. This is completely unacceptable what is going on? Higher fees, less hours, and broken equipment and health code violation?! Please do better!

Horrible! Regret re-signing my contract! This place is consistently out of cleaning supplies, broken equipment and a myriad of teenagers not taking workouts seriously. Highly suggest reading Andrew’s critique because it’s spot on!
The staff is nice but in the evening it’s just an absolute madhouse (not the busy gym type either). I mean if you want to watch someone take a 15 rest on 1 of 2 Smith machines (or ANY other piece of equipment), this is the gym for you!

I cannot recommend Andrew enough as a personal trainer at Crunch Fitness - Park West! Working with him has been an absolute pleasure and truly inspiring. From the very first session, he’s been not only an amazing trainer but also a great listener and a genuine person. He has been a key part of my journey in improving my physique, boosting my confidence, and getting my mindset back on track. His strength coaching techniques have been the best I’ve ever experienced.
Andrew is always there for me—never missing a session and always pushing me to be my best. Even on days when I felt off track, he helped me get back into the groove and stay focused on my goals. If you’re looking for a trainer who will help you achieve your fitness goals, no matter where you are in life, Andrew is THE guy! He’s an amazing dude, and I’m incredibly grateful for the progress I’ve made under his guidance.
I also want to take a moment to acknowledge the staff at Park West Crunch Fitness. I know there’s been some chatter about delays in renovations, but it’s important to remember that these things happen, and it’s not the fault of the employees who are simply doing their jobs. Everyone I’ve interacted with there has been kind, helpful, and supportive. So, please, let’s keep the positive vibes going for the amazing team at Crunch Fitness!

I’ve been working with a trainer for over 20 years. It’s a vital component in reaching and maintaining my goals. I started working with Andrew Sayler 7 months ago. He starts and ends every workout asking me how I’m feeling. He is subtle in getting me to exceed prior limits. The results are noticeable and consistent. He understands what exercises work which muscles, what workout compliments another… And my thighs and butt look great!!

Signed up because I really needed somebody to coach me. Andrew Sayler was assigned to me due to my background training and needs. He has taken the time to build me up including legs and core which I routinely hate to do. Much improvement in my performance in BJJ and also as a lifestyle choices. The 4 stars is for the equipment that truly needs to be updated to crunch standards in other facilities but I believe is a work in process pending TOMP approval of permits etc.
From the coaching standpoint Andrew is the man!!! 5 stars to him! Highly recommend him

Apart from the aesthetics which need improvement and permits from Mount Pleasant, I am thrilled with my experience at Crunch. In August, at age 71, I started working out with Andrew, an excellent trainer. As a tennis player, I was experiencing more injuries. We work out for two 30 min sessions a week and I work out another 2-3 sessions independently. He focuses on large joint exercises because it's time efficient. Trap bar deadlift from 100 to 130 lbs, Romanian Deadlifts 75 lbs to 105 lbs, Shoulder Press 7.5 lbs to 22.5 lbs, etc. No injuries on the court or in the gym. Functional improvements include being able to easily lift luggage into the overheads, get up from the floor without using my hands, walk 10-14,000 steps a day, carry heavy grocery bags with ease. Basically, I'm stronger than I've ever been in my life. Also lost 7 pounds, eliminated belly fat and built nice muscles. Best investment I ever made to meet my goal to have a long "healthspan". I'm so "sold" on it that I've continued my workouts when I travel.

I’ve been training at Crunch/Pivotal for years, and while the facility itself is in serious need of improvements, my experience has been worthwhile thanks to my personal trainer, Andrew Sayler. I’m leaving this as a review of my personal trainer at Crunch Fitness, and not the actual business. That’s important since my rating would not be the same.
With that said, at the end of last year my wife signed up at Crunch Fitness; however, we both felt we needed more than just a gym. We need guidance. What machines and equipment to use, and how to use them properly to gain maximum benefit without risking injury.
We were very fortunate to be aligned with Thomas Groesbeck. We didn’t ask for him, it was literally luck of the draw. I have to say, we were incredibly lucky.
Thomas is dedicated to helping his clients maximize their benefits and achieve their personal goals. He is extremely patient, taking the time to demonstrate how to do things correctly. He’s always very positive and polite… never making us feel badly. He’s also very aware and attentive… he notices small changes and checks on us through out the workout. An extra grimace might indicate pain or discomfort… he sees that and adjusts what’s going on, or will focus on relieving after effects.
Beyond that, he’s very professional. Never speaks down to us and adapts his presentation to the client’s level. He’s also incredibly personable and friendly. During any session you feel like the most important person in the gym.
I had my doubts about the utility of engaging a personal trainer, but I must say it was the smartest decision we made after deciding to improve our health with a gym membership.
I’m sure the other trainers are also very good… I’ve heard no complaints about anyone. However, it may be a biased opinion, but I would highly recommend seeking out Thomas for your training needs.

Super dirty and most of the equipment doesn't work. My motivation to work out declines as soon as I walk through the front doors. This is seriously the worst gym I've ever belonged to.
*to the response below:
We been hearing this same response since May and nothing has changed. In fact, the gym continues to get worse and worse. I signed a contract because I was told you guys offered the red line classes. Shortly after signing the contract I was told crunch fitness was taking over and The classes would be temporarily canceled and a renovation would start soon. This was in May and none of these things have happened. The filth throughout the gym, Along with broken and faulty equipment is a total safety concern. I moved from three machines today, trying to find a piece of equipment that worked properly. It seems that wvery response to these complaints are an apology followed by, we are starting a renovation soon, but there's never a response to the fact that the place is absolutely filthy. It does not take a renovation to restock the paper towels, clean up the bathrooms, wipe down the equipment, empty the trash cans, and have a working water fountain that does not have mold on it. Sometimes it takes the owner to come in suck it up and clean the place up yourself or hire someone to do it. There is no way you could walk anyone through this gym and say with a straight face that it's clean, safe and worth the price that you're charging the members. I'd give anything to be out of my contract And I know several other people that feel the same way.

Just joined this week after losing access to our other gym, haven't been here since it was Pivotal Fitness. I have been coming to this gym since way back when it was ESAC. Pivotal is now the best it has ever been. The instructors, trainers and staff are outstanding. The caring, supportive and community mindfulness make membership a very special experience.
The previous 5 star review for Pivotal was hijacked by Crunch, the new owner/management.
Crunch doesn’t deserve the 1 star. The place is filthy, they continuously promise a million dollar remodel, but, are waiting on permits.
I think that is the party line.
Anyway, classes are literally back to back, so as you are trying to put away equipment and exit, the next class is rushing in and scrambling to get their equipment.
Every other gym on the planet has a break between classes for this reason.
It would also resolve issues with parking, because the spaces would clear out in that 15 minute window, making room for the next group of members.
The desk is staffed by a different teen every day, phone scrolling and ignoring the coming and going of members.
Why do I stay? The instructors are the best, and I have been with them for years, through ESAC, O2, Pivotal, and now, sadly, Crunch.
Many members fell the same way.

First, they reduced the hours significantly. Then, they can’t even meet the expectations of there opening hours and are literally open half the time during expected hours.

Regularly doesn’t open on time (60+ minutes after posted opening times). Gym is dirty, equipment is broken and / or missing pieces. Electrical wires sticking out, mold, I could go on.
We understand permits take a long time for renovations, but basic management would prevent these egregious issues.
Emailed, messaged on social multiple times, tried to find a corporate contact, talk to people working - no response ever received.
Two stars only for the few pieces of working equipment, good people who come here and the location.
I hate writing bad reviews and will only do it after trying multiple times to get a resolution. This is all fixable 🙏🏼

Second time since crunch has taken over that they do not open on time. Pivotal at least was 24/7. Continuously out of paper towels to wipe down equipment. The treadmill broke 4 months ago and was told that they were getting all new ones by the end of the month. Still sits with a sign do not use. All the bands seemed to have disappeared from the first floor. ZERO new equipment has yet to be brought in. Currently 5:52 am on a Friday and they are supposed to open at 5. FAIL

I'm sad to see the negative reviews, my experience has been the exact opposite. I joined the gym 2 months ago and signed up for personal training with Tessa. Best decision I've ever made! I have found everyone to be incredibly friendly and have never had a problem getting on a machine. I wish grace would be given knowing they are working hard to start renovations. Getting the approval from the town hasn't been the easiest process.

They only thing they have going for them is the location. They’ve upped the prices since taking over, which wouldn’t matter if they actually changed anything. They talk about renovations, but since they’ve taken over they can’t even seem to put paper towels in the holders or keep the soap dispensers filled. Those things have nothing to do with renovations, more like basic upkeep. It’s a shame because I’ve been to multiple Crunches in other states as well as their other one in Mt P. and always have had great experiences.
Edit: since my last post, the gym has actually gotten worse. For three days they have not had paper towels. Which makes it impossible to wipe down equipment. This is a health/sanity concern! I’ve asked each day and they said that the towels are coming in that day. Which I can understand shipments being delayed. However, there is both a Walmart and grocery store within a mile to purchase cleaning supplies.
The rumor is that there will be 2 new gyms opening up in N Mt P. Soon. Hopefully, at the minimum, they will have the ability to keep the equipment free of sweat and bacteria. I never want any business to do bad, however it appears that the Crunch in Park West is trying to fail.

Honestly, didn’t think the gym could get any worse after pivotal, but Crunch has definitely proved me wrong. Numerous cable equipment is broken, attachments are broken and metal exposed as the rubber has worn off, stretch areas are filthy, most of the machines have missing parts, and the men’s bathroom is just disgusting. Plus the paper towel and antimicrobial solution areas are usually empty. Not to mention the outside looks like an abandoned building. All this after they raised prices from 29.99 to 49.99, so now paying 150.00 a month for 3 memberships, plus they have a huge yearly “service fee”. Really not sure what they are servicing, but I can tell you since I’m there daily, it’s not the equipment.

Unfortunately, Crunch fitness got rid of silver sneakers and replaced it with their take on what a senior fitness class should be. I was told you just have to work harder. I’m a 59 year old with heart failure so “working harder” is not an option. Very disappointed.

Nothing has changed since Crunch bought out Pivotal except the hours. Unfortunately they are no longer open 24/7 which makes mornings at the gym super crowded. Quite a few people used to come in before 5 am and now we all have to share this small space at the same time. There just is not enough equipment and now I have to wait in line, which almost never happened before. My biggest issue was cleanliness and outdated/broken equipment. When I walk into the locker room at 5 am, I see trash on the floor, the bathroom stalls dirty, and the I doubt the showers have ever seen any cleaning supplies. There are stains and hair on the shower walls that have been there for months. Lastly, unless proven otherwise, I don't think management/staff cares too much about members. I called twice a few weeks ago to speak with a manager regarding a charge on my account and was told twice that manager was in a meeting and that they would call back. Well, still waiting on this phone call. I am just going to leave it at this. I have a couple more things but I doubt someone is still reading! ;)

Crunch (new branding/ownership) has made this place much worse. They have cut the operating hours drastically, raised the price and the place is falling apart. Treadmills have loose treads that slip over 8mph, the men’s room is always disgusting (paper towels everywhere, locks left on lockers long-term, etc….). Prices went up and they have fixed nothing. Please repair the holes in the walls, the broken paper towel dispensers, bring back the water cooler. Buyer beware, Look elsewhere if considering this as your gym.

This is the most disgusting gym I’ve ever been to. Men’s bathroom floors never cleaned, stuff hanging out the ceilings. Main clientele are high school kids who run in packs setting up tripods for filming themselves and taking selfies in the bathroom. They had to put up restrictions because these kids were drinking in the dirty bathrooms. All this and it’s 5x the price of the very clean and well maintained Planet Fitness in Belle Hall. Save yourself the trouble.

Pivotal Fitness is average and tired. It's got a bit of a funky odor and not kept well. The leather and padding on several pieces of equipment are worn and torn, and some have rust. Soap and paper towels are often empty in the locker room. And I haven't yet seen a fan that isn't covered in dust, blowing around.
The staff, on average, is pretty apathetic. Low to no energy, and at the front desk on their phone as you check in.

I joined this gym after moving here from LA, where I was a LA Fitness member. Coming from a very large gym, I was worried about the size of Pivotal Fitness, and whether or not I would feel crammed and not have decent access to weights/machines. But after about a month of going to Pivotal Fitness (3 - 4 times/week in the mornings), I'm very happy with my experience.
I have not yet run into any issues with getting access to the cages, weights or machines - and I have yet had to wait for anything to free up. There are multiple cages and at least 1 - 2 are always free at any given time; this is a huge difference from LA Fitness where there would frequently be a wait.
In addition, Pivotal Fitness has done an excellent job in purchasing multiple machines that are typically in higher demand, ie crossover cable machines. Other gyms will purchase a single type of machine to be as broad/diverse as possible, but it seems clear that Pivotal Fitness is owned/managed by people that really do work out, and understand the types of machines that appeal to regular fitness enthusiasts.
While downstairs are primarily weights, cages and machines (along with optional kids care - which is a fantastic value add), the upstairs is a large oval track that circles ellipticals, bikes, treadmills, and stair machines. In addition to this, there are a few machines upstairs that work really well in-tandem with a cardio session.
Overall, Pivotal Fitness is GREAT for anybody seeking an extremely comfortable, non-salesy, fitness-inclined and high performance place to regularly work out.
